Who wears it better… Willa, by Wellie Wishers or Nahji, by Hearts for Hearts?

I was thrilled to be able to get this sweet little dress set finished for Willa AND Nahji today. You had an idea of what the dress was going to look like from a couple posts back… well, here it is finished…

cimg5342

Here is Willa in her brown wool felt hat…

cimg5341

BUT THEN.. I went and added something else! Several of you guessed it was either an apron or a pinafore, and I guess it could be both. I don’t think I’d want to get it dirty in the kitchen, so maybe just a pinafore.

cimg5281

I started out wanting to make a rose colored pinafore. (It looks coral in my pics, but it has a pinkish cast to it.)I got the edges all stitched and a pocket in the middle, but when I tried to gather it up it didn’t work and I realized the pocket was too high and too big, so it went in the trash. I dug it out to show you! :o)

cimg5375

Nope…that will never do!

So I decided to use a fun brown and white check I had been given. The nice thing about checks…, they go with lots of prints. You don’t have to worry a whole lot about whether or not they go… they usually do if you can find the same color family! I just made her pinafore up as I went along and love how it looks over the dress.

Here are both girls in the slip…

cimg5323

cimg5353

Nahji’s waist is just a tiny bit smaller than Willa’s, so I mentioned in my Ebay listing, that I could take in the waist of the slip if someone wanted this for a Hearts for Hearts doll.

cimg5364

When I took the pinafore off Nahji so I could show you the first pinafore I had started, I laid the brown and white checked one on top of Willa. I had an idea… maybe the pinafore could be used as sort of a sundress. If you wore a little white T-shirt under it, it might work…

cimg5377

…Maybe NOT…

cimg5379

…unless you had a longer T-shirt or a white knit dress that covered her sweet little bum!

Well, all this talk and lots of pictures…so how about a link to the listing on Ebay. You can find it HERE or you can click on the picture at the top right side bar…

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. You have an almost ready-to-go sundress pattern for summer. That’s a nice bonus. And you have a splendid little girl school dress for Ebay.

One of the really nice things about your projects is that they get done, unlike housework, for example. It’s really nice to see one project after another completed, on Ebay, and off to make someone happy.

In a day or two, there will be the beginnings of another outfit to share. Do you have time for another fall/Thanksgiving outfit before it’s time to begin winter holiday clothes? I’ve really enjoyed the fall colors on Willa and Nahji. Who’s next? Who hasn’t had a turn recently? Who is going to look especially pretty in your prettiest fall fabric? I wonder what your prettiest fall fabric is. There must be at least a dozen to choose from.

I shared the pictures of your cute little birthday girl with several friends, who liked them as well as I did. She cheered up a lot of people’s days. It’s so nice to see a little girl in a pretty dress. Jeans are useful and even cute, but a pretty dress is always a pleasure.

    1. Thanks Marilyn,
I do like the way the checked pinafore turned out. It’s a very sweet little style for the dolls.
Yes, sewing the one thing I do that usually had an “end” to it. I try to get things finished as quickly as I can… so yes, my housework does suffer a bit. I do have my cleaning days though.

I’m hoping to do one more Fall/Thanksgiving dress before switching to Christmas. I’m not sure who is next… I’ll have to look and see who was next in line without having modeled for a long time. I need to get Ellowyne’s pictures retaken and her dress listed again too.

I am the biggest fan of dresses on little girls… like you said, jeans are okay, but show me a dress on a little girl any day and it will make me smile! :o)
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

That little checked pinafore is absolutely perfect with Willa’s brown dress! Good choice, and much prettier than the rose, IMO. Maybe making the pockets too big/high on that one was a good thing!! The rose would have been okay, of course, but the check and the brown print just sing together!

    1. Hi Charlotte,
I’m with you on liking the brown and white checked pinafore better. I was glad too, when I finished the brown and white one, that the rose colored one didn’t work out! It WAS a good thing after all!
I’m glad you like it Charlotte,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. The outfit came together so beautifully, Jeanne! I love the dainty print, fall colors, rick rack and checks together! Any little girl–or big one–would love to have this outfit! It looks nice with or without the apron, and I thought for a minute there, that apron would the just perfect as a dress—until you showed the back! Like Marilyn said, you have the makings for a summer dress by adding on a few inches in the back. This outfit can be so versatile, like helping in the kitchen with the apron, going to school or church in the dress and hat, or wherever a little girl would go.

I like it on Willa better because of her coloring. Her hair is a pretty contrast to the outfit. While I think Nahji is a beautiful little doll, I like the Wellies as little girls better on the whole.

Halloween is in the air! Hoping today is a bit better—and warmer than yesterday!

    1. HI Linda,
Thanks for your compliments on Willa’s dress. I was very pleased with how it looks on her and am feeling more comfortable with my pattern for her now. She is a very fun size to sew for and some people don’t care for her hard body, but it makes it easier to sew for her, I think..at least to be accurate for ALL the Wellie Wishers out there. Sometimes the variation in waist sizes on the soft bodied AG dolls can be as much as an inch difference. That makes it tricky when sewing for them…
I think Willa does look more like a “little girl” than Nahji too, but she’s a very pretty doll.

Today is warmer but still on the cool side. I think it’s supposed to get down to 37 degrees tonight! BRRRR!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. What a darling outfit. It always surprises me how the checks look great with the prints. Great sense of design and the apron is so cute. It’s a great outfit for either of the cuties.

    1. Thanks Susette,
I’m glad you like it and yes, checks are a great way to add a little something extra to a dress. It can be a pocket, a hat, some piping, but it really does work!
      Thank you so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Just lovely, Jeanne. Any doll that size would be smashing in your newest creation. Both of your dolls/girls are just darling cuties in it. You’ve made another very sweet ensemble. Nice job.

    Blessings.

    1. Thank you Becky,
I’m getting in the swing of things with sewing for the Wellie Wishers. She really is a fun size. Have you made anything for your Emerson yet?
It’s supposed to turn cooler (colder!) tonight so maybe I better draft a coat pattern!
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

    1. HI Mary,
I went to Pixie Faire today but didn’t download the pattern yet. Is it the jacket with the raglan sleeves? I just glanced at the site for a minute.
I did see they were selling the H4H dolls… they have stolen my heart… I still can’t believe I never noticed them before.
      Thanks so much Mary,
      Blessings, Jeanne

    2. Thanks, Mary, for reminding me of the Pixie Faire offer of a free pattern. I had totally forgotten about the offer of a free pattern weekly. I just got an Ellowyne doll and downloaded a free T-shirt pattern. Thanks again, Susette

  6. Boy oh boy, if that isn’t an absolutely darling dress. I love the brown print dress but adding that checked pinafore is just darling. Those two pieces of material would be a great Civil War dress. Such a perfect choice of colors for fall. I think Willa’s red hair looks better with the brown although Nahji looks great in it too. I love your sewing!

I went to Kohl’s to see Lea and found her ! Yay! I’m really wanting her wig, not so much her. I do like her story though for young girls. Anyway, Kohl’s has her box wrapped in security binding so I couldn’t see her hair that much except for the her forehead. I didn’t see the Wellie Wishers anywhere. I think I’ll call Toys Are Us to see if they have any 18″ AMGs or if they know when they might get them.
    I’m loving this fall weather.

    1. HI Paula,
Thank you so much for your kind words about my sewing and the dress I made for the dolls. It’s nice that I had the checked piece of fabric for her pinafore… it worked well I think too!
I like it on Willa best too… but maybe Nahji will get something in her coloring sometime later.
I’m so glad you found a Lea at your Kohl’s store. I hope when you get her out of the box, she has a good wig, since that’s what you were wanting most.
I had to search for the Wellie Wishers too. I almost gave up thinking our store wasn’t carrying them, but I found them on the second to last shelf I looked at, and there they were. Their boxes are laying down so it’s easy to miss them.
The leaves are really falling here and after tonight, they’ll be falling even more. It’s supposed to get down to 37!
But I’m loving the day time temps!
      Thanks Paula,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Very cute pinafore. Checks are perfect. I like the little book. Maybe it is her diary? I’ll have to read the bay listing to find out.

    1. HI Joy,
Thanks for the compliments on the dress and pinafore.
Maybe it is her diary… whatever she wants it to be..that’s what it is!
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Late again because of a very busy day filled with errands.
Willa is so cute in that dress and pinafore. Redheads look so good in brown. The sweet checked pinafore reminds me a little of Addy’s birthday dress one. I prefer the dress on Willa, it complements her coloring better IMO. Paula and I are thinking alike. That print would make a sweet Civil War dress.
I made it back to Kohl’s to see the WW. They had Camile, Kendall and Emerson, same as the first time. Hmmm wonder if they never got Willa. I also saw Lea. She looks as monochromatic in person to me as in pictures. I know many think she is gorgeous, but not I.
Did you see the Felicity links last week on PT? The stays, shift and bumroll are cute. I don’t have her original underpinnings, but they are really meant for under the Christmas gown only so I puff out the sides with a bit of batting and if no one knows it’s okay.. The leaked dress is blue print and gold. I think think it would be pretty on Elizabeth, but Felicity needs green! Green was lacking in her PC wardrobe as well. I’m fond of doll clothes that complement hair and especially eyes.
Our tress and burning bush have really started to color. We’re have a frost warning tonight with a low of 38. Soon will come one of my favorite times of the year- Indian Summer.

    1. HI Laura,
I think I like Willa in the dress best too. Of course, SHE picked out the fabric, so I guess it was her dress from the start. I hadn’t thought about that but her pinafore is sort of like Addy’s…
Oh, I wish you could see Willa in person…she is such a little cutie. I just love her. I wonder if they’ll make other Wellies…or is this it?
I looked at Lea too and wasn’t that impressed… I could think of a dozen other dolls I’d rather have before I got her. I need to thin out a few of my dolls, but I don’t know who…

I think I saw the things for Felicity, but they must have not made too much of an impression on me because I can’t remember anything about them. I think Felicity needs more green too!

We are supposed to get down to 37 tonight. It’s 45 right now… The leaves are really falling around here.
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne
