Update on Molly’s dress…

We have storms moving through and I can’t get connected to my server. The rain really hinders my satellite connection…or should I say my “non-connection.” I am typing this on my phone to let you know I will put up my post as soon as I can get connected again…

Okay it’s connected for now, so I think I can do some typing now. I’ll hurry and see if I can get this finished quickly …in between thunder booms and lightning strikes…!

I worked on Molly’s dress and made quite a bit of progress. I was going great guns and had the bodice all constructed and the sleeves all set in very nicely and then I realized I had forgotten to put in the little decorative trim on the bodice… so I had to rip out the front of the sleeves seam and get the trim centered in there. It wasn’t too big of a job…

Here are a few pictures of what I have done so far… the ruffle is just a piece I gathered up and have sitting on her shoulders. The dress isn’t hemmed yet and the bows aren’t made for the front yet.

I hate to run but I really need to shut down my computer… with all the lightning going on…

See you tomorrow,

  1. It’s just darling and the print looks so authentic to the period. The collar looks great. Another favorite for Molly. Stay safe from the thunderstorms.

    1. Hi Susette,
Well, you are up bright and early this morning… Thanks for your kind words about Molly’s newest 40’s dress.
You’d never know we had such bad storms last night… today was absolutely beautiful… Hope it was in California too!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. So nicely done, Jeanne. Love the way you’ve done the bodice highlighting.

Trusting you didn’t get washed away….we were hoping for some nice rains but haven’t gotten much.

    Take care.

    1. Thank you Becky,
I think Molly likes it and that makes for a good model!
We got hailed on in the middle of the night but today it was gorgeous… one of our prettiest days so far this year!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Lovely weather you are having. I hope the electricity doesn’t go out. It’s a good day to stay in, make something in the slow cooker, and sew. The skies are gray here, but we’re not having any of the drama you are.

Susette says the collar looks great, and Becky says she loves the bodice detail, so I’ll add that the sleeves look perfect, and they were one of my favorite parts of this design. Altogether, this is going to be a charming dress, and it seems to be coming together very quickly. I’m looking forward to seeing it tomorrow.

    1. HI Marilyn,
Well, my day didn’t go exactly the way YOU planned it for me… but things got done. A letter was typed up for my hubby, a dress got boxed up and taken to the post office, I went to the doctor with my mom, bought groceries after the dr. visit, came home and made fajitas, I talked to my 2 sisters, chatted with Rebecca a little bit and it’s now 9:46 and I’ve yet to set foot in my sewing room. So much for getting Molly’s dress finished and listed on eBay… Maybe tomorrow…
It was beautiful here today and hope you get some nice weather like we have soon… you deserve it after all your late fallen snow…

When I was talking to my sister, Cindy, she told me she thought Molly’s dress looked “dated” and then there was a pause on the phone… “in a good way, I mean…” she said…
It was coming along nicely but today I hit a snag… maybe tomorrow I can get back to it.
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Molly is looking very sweet in her new dress. I LOVE the collar and the fabric.
Stay safe from the storms. We are supposed to get some today as well, but as the little poem goes, “April showers bring May flowers” and I love flowers!!

    1. Thank you Laura, for your kind comments on Molly’s dress. I think when it’s all pulled together it will be a nice and typical 40’s dress. I sure hope so…
Yes, April showers does bring in those lovely flowers!
      Thanks so much,
      blessings, Jeanne

  5. I love this little dress. Details and the fabric. Are the flowers pinkish or red tone? I can’t tell on my monitor. Anyway, I was picturing Molly carrying a little flag. Not that far away from Memorial Day. Sorry you had to use that golden seam ripper again, but the trim absolutely makes the dress.

    1. HI Joy,
Since you mentioned the color of the flowers, I went and looked at them again… they are more on the cherry red tone on one part of the flower and actually a pretty rosy pink on the other side of the flower…It’s a very pretty print and I always thought I would use if for a Colonial dress, but when I saw it in the catalog, it became a 40’s fabric…

You are right about Memorial Day being soon and a flag just might be what she gets to hold in her hand this time…
Thanks so much for your kind compliments Joy,
      blessings, Jeanne

  6. Oh how perfectly darling this dress will be, and is, so far! I love the way you highlighted the stripes and made them go across the bodice! So, bows in the center or buttons? I would have loved that dress as a little girl, and paired with pretty red shoes and bows in my hair! Oh, why don’t little girls dress like this anymore?

I had computer problems this morning, just couldn’t get anything to go through, so had to wait a bit. I was wondering about you last night, since we had storms too, and lightning plus thunder and wind. We got through it though, and I see you did too!

    1. HI Linda,
Well, I hope to copy the dress in the catalog and have bows in the center of the trim… I may put some tiny navy buttons on the sleeves tuck…
I think I might have to braid Molly’s hair for this dress. It just looks like she needs braids… and of course ribbons…
I was scrambling last night to get my post on… and didn’t know if it would make it or not. I stayed up as long as I could, waiting for it to come back on…and when it did, I hurried and threw that post together so fast… just adding the pictures I had taken and a few words about what I had done… and that was it…
We got hail about 1:00 this morning…along with the strong winds and the blowing rain…
But today was just beautiful… you’d never have guessed it was so bad last night…
      Blessings, Jeanne
