The same Christmas fabric FIVE different ways…

Thank you again, for all of you who took time to send Congratulation wishes to my daughter, Rebecca, who finished her last final exam today from College. Tomorrow is actually the ceremony, but she chose to pass on that… too expensive and she’s not really into crowds so much. I made her little jar and put a cardstock paper cap on it and then made a tassel out of yarn. It was jam packed with my money and YOUR comments. I copied them onto paper and rolled them up just like I did the money.

When I gave it to her, she saw the money and understood them, but wondered about the white papers inside rolled up like little diplomas. When I told her what you all had done, she got all teary eyed and sat there and opened every single one and read them. I know you touched her heart and I am so thankful to you for helping me with this gift. We are going out to dinner with her tomorrow and hope to bless her a little more…Thank you again!

I’ve been racking my brain, trying to think if I have any more than four dresses, but I don’t think so… OH…excuse me; I have been looking at my archived pictures and wanted to do a post showing the same fabric, but in totally different dresses on totally different dolls. I found four dolls in this pretty Christmas fabric and I’m hoping I haven’t done a post showing these before… forgive me if I have.

UPDATE: Paula reminded me that Lily had modeled a dress made from this fabric in a “Little Women” style dress… I added her to the bottom of the pictures… Please take a peek.

I can’t even tell you where or when I got this fabric but it has been in my stash for a really long time. It is a classic Christmas print and I have loved using it. Apparently I should have bought more because I’m almost out of it and soon there will be no more dresses to be made from it. Boohoo…

The first dress I made from this pretty fabric was for Addy, back in 2007. I still remember the name of this dress… “Glimmer of Glamour.” This was on my first Addy and I thought she looked very pretty in it.

In 2008 I made a dress for Wren using it. I looked it up and found the title for it was “Christmas Gold.” I loved our photo shoot when these pictures were taken.

When I got my Nyssa doll, I had to make a dress for her using it. I even changed her eyes to a sort of olive green to match the fabric and put on her long Christine wig. This dress was made in 2010 and I called it “Christmas Gold” too.

Ellowyne has worn it last…in 2014, I made this dress for her using a pattern by Magalie… and it looked very pretty on Ellowyne. I used her burgundy wig to bring out the colors in the fabric. This sweet dress was called “Sentimental Christmas.”

I forgot about Lily in HER dress made from this pretty fabric. Hers was one of three made for a lady who wanted some “Little Women” dresses! They were made back in December 2013.

As I was looking though the archives, I ran across a picture I snapped when I was visiting my sister last year… It makes me laugh… almost as much as I laughed when I watched Taylor dance! (but not quite!)

I hope you have a wonderful Saturday…stay warm and safe…it’s supposed to be super cold and icy!

See you Monday morning,

  1. Only one of my 3 sons attended their graduation ceremony from college. He had ‘gone away’ to school…. the other 2 went to a ‘local’ college – so, maybe that makes some ‘difference’ with how they feel about the ceremony? My youngest (31 yo in january) is in Iowa, now, studying for his PhD – something to do with plant genetics…. he’ll be the last to finish. the other ones were satisfied with BS and MA programs….but, Phil ‘needed’ the PhD. I’ll be glad when he gets done – but, only one year into it.

I loved seeing the different style dresses made with that same fabric! Just lovely! Makes me wanna sort through some christmas fabrics and sew ‘someone’ an outfit today. Maybe I *will*! 🙂

    1. HI Mary,
I hope you got some sewing done today… I certainly didn’t… but I hope you did!
I think Rebecca would rather be in the kitchen baking than standing in line waiting for her name to be called… :o)
      Thanks Mary,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. That fabric print is my favorite too, Jeanne. Didn’t Lilly wear it too in the pictures that look like the Little Women. Anything holly related to me is beautiful, although I don’t know if the print is really holly?
Oh, I bet Rebecca is just so happy to achieve what she did these last 7 years and that it’s completed now. The accomplishment must be overwhelming. Now she on to bigger and better things that life has to offer. She is such a lovely daughter and I know you are proud of her.
That sign is so funny. I’ve never seen that saying before!
After seeing Taylor in his Christmas program, it made me think of an incident my oldest son, who is now 32, was in a Christmas program when he was little. He was mad at me because I made him wear this certain outfit for the program. As he stood on the risers with his classmates, who were singing songs, I could tell he was searching the audience to find us, which he did. Once he spotted us, he proceeded to stick his tongue out at us continually and would even turn around so his back was to us. We were mortified and I began to realize other parents and guests were now noticing. The laughter and whispers increased in this good size audience. I wanted to crawl under my chair. Fortunately, his teacher saw it too and moved him closer to her. He soon joined in the singing. I have to say in defense of my son, he was and is a wonderful person who makes me very proud. This was a rare occasion of his that we now laugh about.

    1. Hi Paula,
I did forget someone…you were right… Lily was missing but I just now had the chance to add her to the group. She was probably the prettiest one in the bunch and to think I forgot her! Shame on me…but thank you for reminding me!
      Blessings, Jeanne

    2. HI Paula,
Thanks again for the reminder for Lily to be added!
Rebecca is in the kitchen cooking her own Graduation dinner… our plans had to be scrapped because George wasn’t feeling well enough to go. We decided to turn it into a baking day, but she’s making Chicken Marsala Meatballs for us tonight for dinner.

My sister Cindy is going to Hannah’s Christmas program tonight and after seeing Taylor she’s a little gun shy and hopes nothing like that happens in their song! Although she told me Hannah’s part was the “comic relief” part…not exactly sure what that means, but she was a little worried…
Kids will be kids…that’s just a fact of life… something to always remember!
      Thanks so much Paula,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Mary’s son Phil may think he needs the Ph.D., but we need him to have it even more. Knowledge of plant genetics may be what feeds the planet. I was supervising a young Vietnamese (not Vietnamese-American) library worker majoring in environmental engineering. I watched his work and discussed him and it with co-workers. Then I told him we had decided that as long as he was here studying, we thought he ought to continue for his Ph.D. He looked at me with no expression. Two weeks later I was already getting requests for letters of recommendation from schools all over the country. People like these two men have a chance to make a major positive difference, as does Rebecca. They deserve our support, and they are getting it.

My friend Rebecca points out that the same is true of Taylor and Edison, who just displayed two traits that Americans value highly — team spirit and the ability to hear and march to a different drummer. We need them both. As the years go by, I’m sure each of them will display both characteristics and their parents will continue to watch them with pride and with many, many smiles.

Paula is right — I did a site search on Little Women, and there is the same fabric, being used in one more beautiful way. Who would have guessed it was so versatile? You may be nearly out, but you have used it very well.

    1. HI Marilyn,
You just never know how far someone will go when they get an education. I see big things ahead for Rebecca’s future…of course I’m her mom, so I might not count, but I do!

I would have to say, that Yes, Taylor marches to a different beat. I sent my brother the link to my blog post the day I featured Taylor’s moves! He just answered back… we are still laughing here too!

Paula was right… I had left out Lily but she’s added to the bunch now… and might be the prettiest one in the group! You’re right… I think I have used that fabric well! Now I need to search for a new one to use for the next 5 or so years!
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Only graduation I have ever attended was my high school. Skipped JC, state college, and masters. So did my husband. Guess we’re not in to ceremonies either. So happy that Rebecca is on to the next step in life. Exciting.
I really like Addy’s dress with the contrasting green silk? And of course, lovely Wren. All the dresses are sweet.
    Enjoy your weekend.

    1. HI Joy,
Actually Addy’s dress is made with a gold shimmery fabric.. not exactly sure what kind it is, but it was a perfect match to the Christmas print so I used it. It’s super fine, like a silk but I don’t think it is.
Rebecca is in the kitchen now…cooking us her Graduation dinner… we were going to go out but my hubby got sick this morning… so we went to Plan B… stay home, and cook and we’re making cookies between getting dinner fixed.
Thanks so much Joy…and thanks too, for the Christmas card…it’s nice to put a face with a name!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Jeanne, the jar turned out so cute and touching at the same time! That’s something you could never get at the store, which makes it special. Are we going to get some sort of picture of the new graduate? She’s such a beautiful young woman! Maybe one with the proud mom and dad?

Oh, dear, I don’t remember paying extra for a graduation ceremony, unless it was included in the Senior Fee, which was mandatory. I too, graduated in December, but the next spring, received my diploma at the graduation exercises outside at Cape. Of course, that was eons ago, so things might be different now.

That is a lovely fabric! I really do like that kind over the sparkly, glitzy stuff they do holiday dresses now with. I just love the dresses with the white collars and little appliques, and burgundy sashes! And that last dress is beautiful too, with the lace overlay. Did you see Magalie’s latest Ebay offering? Way out of my price range, but oh, so beautiful!

That sign, well, that’s exactly what I looking for, but I think Santa is hopelessly mixed up already, poor me and everybody else! What a dreary day we are having!

    1. HI Linda,
Well, you’re going to get one of your wishes… Rebecca just sent me a picture of her when she was in her bridesmaid dress at Emily’s wedding. I’ll probably post it on Monday as this day is just about over.
Rebecca is in the kitchen cooking her own Graduation Dinner as our plans had to change some today… George got sick… and I had to take him to the lab at the hospital.
We are going to do some more baking after dinner… I have a NEW recipe that I’m going to share on Monday and it’s easier than the Mint Cookie Bark! 4 ingredients to make and about 4 minutes time! It’s scrumptious!
There are gown and cap rental fees and something else she told me but I forgot… I think it was going to be $65… too rich for her blood!
Paula reminded me of one more dress I had made from the fabric, so I added pictures of Lily in her “Little Women” dress… I can’t believe I forgot her!

Do you mean Magalie’s doll AND dress set together? If so, yes, I did see it and it’s beautiful… or maybe stunning would be a better word to describe it.

It’s pretty dreary here too… I’m trying to decide if I am going to make it to church tomorrow. George got sick this morning and we had to call the Dr. on call… They wanted him to go to the hospital and get some lab work done… and called in some medicine for him. I don’t think he’ll make it tomorrow, but I was wondering if I should go. The doctors said for me to stay as healthy as him since I’m his care giver and this is the season for coughs and colds…and I’m a little concerned… so I may be playing hooky…

      Thanks Linda,
Stay warm and by someone cozy!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. I am so glad Rebecca was pleased with her gift. I don’t remember paying extra for the graduation ceremony. Maybe things are different now.
What lovely fabric. I really like gilded fabric at Christmas- so pretty and festive. All the dresses are beautiful in their own way, but , of course, you would know that Addy’s is my favorite. Could you whip out one before Christmas for my Marie-Grace? *wink-just kidding*
Love the sign, I don’t need a thin body, but I sure could use a fatter bank account.
The temperature is a little better today, in the 30’s. We have had single digits a few night already and an inch or so of snow. Last night there was freezing rain. I will say that it looked beautiful this morning with the snow and all the branches glazed.

    1. HI Laura,
Just for your viewing pleasure, I added one more dress that I forgot about. Paula reminded me of the one on Lily that was like the Little Women dresses.
I think some day you’re going to have to get one of my Civil War dresses! There is a doll on Ebay, an American Girl Custom doll with a Marie Grace wig on. It has been straightened where the braids were and she’s in a black velvet coat with white fur trim. She’s $250 and is a #39 doll…with the prettiest blue eyes. I think she is SO beautiful…and she’d make a great Civil War beauty and more! :o)
Oh why do we torture ourselves by looking at what we can’t have? Because we love dolls, I guess.
It’s supposed to get bad here tonight, but not sure how bad… it may just miss us… I hope it goes just south of us…
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

oops… just double checked and the doll was added with another doll and both sold in one auction for $425! Yikes… I guess she’ll just be a dream for me now!
