The Rest of the Story ~~ about Nyssa…

I shared yesterday how Nyssa came to my house (HERE) but that wasn’t all of the story. There was the part where I was waiting for a Nyssa of my very own. I started “longing” for Nyssa in August when I first discovered her, but since she was long sold out, she could only be found on the secondary market, and she didn’t appear very often.

I had a doll friend out in California who chatted back and forth with me about Nyssa and we both were pretty much obsessed over her. She didn’t care if she found a tan skinned or fair skinned one. I only wanted the fair skinned doll. Well, in just a short time she found one on Ebay and I think she ended up paying $1300 for hers. I was hoping for a better deal.

Well, a few people mentioned yesterday in their comments that “doll people” are the sweetest people on earth… wait till you hear what my friend did. She received her tan Nyssa and a few days later shipped her to ME! She knew I wanted to draft some patterns for the dolls and she thought I could use her doll as a model “until I found one!” Can you believe that? Talk about being selfless!

I started making dresses for her Nyssa and using her for my model, selling them on Ebay. I thought maybe you’d like to see my first few outfits on her tan skinned Nyssa. I’ll show them in the order I made them…

First up is a pretty green dress with lace that actually ended up being one of my all time favorites for Nyssa. It was made on September 6, 2010. I was like a lean mean sewing machine when it came to cranking out dresses for Nyssa. I had a great time sewing for her while she lived with me.

The second dress I made for tan Nyssa was a fun and whimsical dress set. I would have to say this one was also a favorite of mine. I was on a roll with Nyssa and this one was made on September 14th, 2010.

It was getting to be Fall and pumpkins were everywhere. I decided to have Nyssa hold a pumpkin in the next photo session, which was on September 24th, 2010.

Mind you, I am still pining away for a Nyssa of my own… :o(

My 4th set for tan Nyssa was another whimsical set. It was pretty bright… so I changed her eyes to some bright blue ones… really bright blue I might add. This set was made on October 6, 2010.

I tried something completely different for my 5th set for tan Nyssa. It was a fun hot pink and black set with some different pieces… I liked this set too. Nyssa got a new blond wig to go with this outfit.

Sometime before October 19th, 2010, when these pictures were taken, I received my very own Nyssa from Kaye Wiggs. This is a little photo shoot I had with both dolls trying on different wigs.

Then on October 24th, 2010, I made my last set for the girls and featured them in an auction together with a set that had a number of mix and match pieces. The girls were a little melancholy as they knew they’d be saying good bye to each other. Tan Nyssa would be going back home to California. We called them long distance cousins!

What a very special gift my friend gave me when she loaned out her tan Nyssa. I know doll people truly are special, and I know ONE VERY SPECIAL lady in California!

So that’s the rest of my Nyssa story…hope you enjoyed it.

See you on Monday,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. I loved Nyssa’s story from yesterday and was glad to have another chapter today, and I love some of today’s clothes. The green dress at the top is a winner, especially with those green eyes. And the brown and gold dress. I hope you have some of that fabric left for next fall. You’ll have to make something new with it. I think I’m not the only one especially fond of Nyssa as a red head, but I do think the current brown wig is very becoming.

Boots are such a great idea — they look great and help the dolls stand more securely. I think the other Nyssa pattern you showed us would look good with boots too. I’m really looking forward to seeing that pattern in real life.

I’m starting to see Outlander outfits for AGs. They are a sort of variation on Felicity clothes. My favorite is the peony dress made by Carpatina as a limited edition, if I remember correctly. It comes with a Williamsburg hat and a bolster to hold the skirt out properly. It was fun to see it after seeing Felicity’s latest.

    1. HI Marilyn,
Oh, I’m glad you liked the “second chapter” of Nyssa’s story. It had a wonderful ending, didn’t it? Those green eyes came on my friend’s Nyssa and I have never been able to find a pair the same color as what those were. I LOVED them too!
I have a couple of pairs of boots for Nyssa and should make her something to go with them.

I’ll have to look for the pattern by Carpatina… I think some of their things are really pretty.
      Thanks Marilyn,
Is the sun still shining in Colorado? It is here, but it’s pretty cold.

  2. Jeanne I remember seeing your auctions for Nyssa on ebay. It was seeing all the adorable Nyssas on ebay that got me hooked on her. I was able to get a fair human on Resin Café. I loved her size and sewing for her. I was hooked on Kaye Wiggs dolls! I later got all four of the Nyssas at very high prices but have since sold all but my first fair human. I don’t redress her much. She sits and looks adorable in my sewing room. Before the Kaye dolls I was sewing for the larger SD size and I have never gone back! I look forward to seeing more of your creations for Nyssa.
P.S. Did you see my message to you thru Etsy?
    God Bless
    Marsha

    1. HI Marsha,
I remember when Nyssa was the hottest thing on Ebay…well, at least for me… she was quite popular and since she was one of Kaye’s most popular MSD dolls, (if not THE most popular), she caught my attention in every listing I saw her modeling.
I sewed a lot for her in the beginning, but then I guess other dolls started stealing my heart. I remember you used to have all 4 and you sewed for them a LOT! So, you mean you still sew for the SD dolls or were you talking about not going back about Nyssa?

I did see your message on Etsy and will keep your hubby in my prayers. My hubby has gotten another UTI and I’ve been preoccupied with him, so I hadn’t answered your message yet.
Thanks Marsha, it’s always nice to chat with you…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. What a wonderful second chapter to your Nyssa story. Thank you for sharing it.
I hope you have a great day!

    1. HI Charlotte,
I’m so glad you enjoyed the rest of Nyssa’s story. I’m glad I hadn’t shared it before!

The sun is shining so that’s a good start to my day. Hope you have a wonderful day too!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. What a great story, Jeanne!

I don’t know if I could pick a favorite outfit out of those you made for Nyssa, but I can say my favorite wig on your girl is the red with the pinned up braids. So cute! Now I want a Nyssa! 🙂 Actually, I have pined for, and been seriously tempted by Bo Bergemann’s Peach Lace Fairy. She finally sold out so I’m safe for now, but she was one of those that just tugged at my heartstrings, ya know?

If you are interested, Bo has lots of adorable patterns on her hawaiisdollstore.com website, and they can be customized for Kaye Wiggs dolls. Really really cute stuff.

    1. HI Theresa,
I like that picture of Nyssa in the braids pulled up on top of her head too. She does look great in the reddish wigs.
I looked on the site you told me about and saw a blue fairy but not a peach one…I bet it was almost the same. Sometimes when we pine away for something, it’s almost better when it sells out so we think about it so much.
I did look through the patterns and have seen them before, maybe on another doll forum. I forget who they are from, but I have the short dress pattern with the 3 ruffles at the bottom.
      Thanks Theresa,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Such a cute story, and the girls are sweet cousins too. The great outfits amaze me. I like the red wig with braids. Looks like she is ready to party.
My knitting is back to the first row yet again. Just when I think I’ve got it, I don’t. 🙁
Hope the weekend treats you well.

    1. HI Joy,
Yes, our Nyssa’s are cousins… they don’t look like cousins, but they are! :o)
It seems everyone likes Nyssa in the red wigs… I should maybe look through my stash and see what else I have in the reddish tones.
So sorry about your knitting… just hang in there and before you know it, you’ll be knitting little caps and sweaters! I believe in you! :o)
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. What a charming and touching end to the Nyssa story, Jeanne! I just always knew that doll people were the best of the best, and your story proves it! I really like Nyssa in the red wig, and I am wondering how in the world do you change out the eyes? Do you take the head completely off, or does she have a little “door” in the back of her head?

The first three dresses are my favorites, and I can’t get over how many different outfits you made, and each very special and unique!

I have Ivy dressed in her Chinese outfit today, it’s Chinese New Year, so Happy New Year to you!

    1. HI Linda,
Another one for liking Nyssa in the red wigs. I guess she’s got those peachy cheeks and lips that make the red wigs look good on her.
The eyes are changed by taking the top cap of her head off. You use silicone plugs to stick the eyes in place. I might have to show that sometime. It’s pretty interesting to see how they fit and how you can make them look over to the side if you like.
My little Elin has the whole front of her face come off to change her eyes.

I have been sewing a long time… you’d think by now, I would have run out of ideas.
Tell Ivy Happy Chinese New Year from me!
      Have a wonderful Saturday Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. What a nice ending to your Nyssa story. It is cute that the two Nyssa’s became cousins. The pictures of the girls together at the end of your pictures is adorable the way you have them posed arm in arm.
Their outfits are magnificent! The detail is unbelievable Jeanne. You are so good at what you do in sewing.
I love plaids, so I have to say, I’m crazy over the black and orange plaid in the last picture. Everything about that outfit is perfect. An outfit like that for the 50’s girls would be “swell.”
Have a nice weekend Jeanne, as well as all your post writers!

    1. Thanks Paula,
I’m glad you enjoyed looking at Nyssa and her cousin Nyssa. I enjoyed making that black and orange set and just kept adding pieces. I think I finally stopped at 12 pieces.
Thank you for your sweet compliments on my sewing… I DO LOVE TO SEW! I hope it shows!
I might just have to do a 50’s themed set similar to the one you like.
I hope to have a nice weekend and hope you do too!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Doll people are the very best! She is a true friend to loan you her girl right after she received her!

I love all the auttmn tones on Nyssa, especially like the checkered newsboy cap outfit:) is that a pattern that is available somewhere? Love the style of it rather than the “muffin” type:)

Jeanne.. I love your writing style!!

    1. I love a story with a happy ending! It makes me sad to hear about the scammers on the doll forums, and yours is not the first story I’ve heard of that happening. I guess there are opportunists everywhere out there, and doll people can be so passionate about certain dolls, especially limited editions, someone is sure to try and take advantage. It’s nice to hear about the people who are genuinely sweet and generous.
I like the fair-skinned Nyssa best, but that dark green dress certainly looks lovely on the darker skinned doll. Your new patterns seem to fit very well, so I’m sure you will be inspired to make more pretty dresses for Nyssa.

      1. HI Carolyn,
        I’m glad you enjoyed Nyssa’s story…both parts!
It is very sad to hear about scammers, and you are so right, when you love a doll, your brain might not be where your heart is and it can get you in trouble.
I think that green dress might be one of my all time favorites and the sad thing is I have no idea what pattern I used for it… I probably just drafted something and it’s unmarked somewhere in my pattern stash… silly woman! :o(

I will make more dresses for Nyssa… everyone’s comments has made me inspired again to sew for her. Thanks to Marsha’s pattern…that’s what started it all.
        Thank you Carolyn,
        Blessings, Jeanne

    2. Thank you Shara,
I’m sure doll people are the kindest, sweetest group of individuals on earth. It must be something about loving their dolls that makes them love people the same way.
Nyssa’s newsboy cap was one I made up and I must have the pattern somewhere but I’m not sure where it is. I liked the looks of it on Nyssa too.
Oh my goodness… my writing style? You mean I have a writing style? I’m sure it would never pass one of those grammar tests that you can send in. I had a friend who sent in a sample of one of her blog posts and it came back with all sorts of errors. I shudder to think what mine would come back with. It’s not for lack of trying though. I tweak and tweak and tweak my posts all the time… In fact, today’s post that I wrote had 17 revisions on it. I read and re read taking out unnecessary words and try to get it just right… but then I always add the little …. dot, dot, dot’s… that’s probably a big no no in the writing world, but that’s just the way my brain works.
      Thanks Shara,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. Hi Jeanne
What a sweet end to a very sweet story. So it’s Joy who sent you her doll huh… I knew there was a reason I liked her. I agree with everyone, doll people are awesome! Actually all the ladies here are so kind and giving of their knowledge. I have learned so many things reading your blog and all the ladies comments. It truly is like a little family here and I feel welcome.
I very much enjoyed looking at all the different looks you made for the cousins. Your Nyssa in that green dress looks stunning and the dark red wig and those green eyes wow! Love it!
    enjoy your Sunday
    Hugs
    Ingrid
PS… I also enjoy your writing style and do the dot dot dot thing …. LOL

    1. HI Ingrid,
I must have written something that made you think it was Joy who sent me her Nyssa, but no, I’m sorry, but it wasn’t Joy. It was someone else who lives in California. I don’t think Joy has any Ball Jointed dolls.
I’m so glad you like coming and joining in on the fun here at my blog. I do have the nicest, friendliest ladies and I’m so blessed by them. I’ve got to find a pair of those green glass eyes for MY Nyssa. Those were the ones my friends doll came with, so when she shipped me her doll, I got to see how pretty they were and used them on my Nyssa once or twice!

I’m glad you like how I write too.. I don’t think I could change now that I’ve done it this way for almost 3 years. :o)
      Thanks Ingrid,
      Have a wonderful Sunday,
      Blessings, Jeanne
