The Prettiest Girl on the Prairie ~ Kirsten’s new dress set…

I have many pictures to show you but I wasn’t able to get Kirsten’s new prairie dress listed on Ebay. That’s going to be my goal for Tuesday evening. I was helping my mom all day long with some phone issues. Hopefully the pictures I took will make up for not getting it listed. This way, you can look it over and decide if it’s a dress that would fit in with your girls…

Kirsten’s going to a family get together, but she doesn’t appear to have much to take… you’ll have to see why in my listing.

This dress set has quite a few pieces… just for fun… a dress that’s pretty flattering, a pair of white embroidered pantalettes, a beautiful white vintage hankie apron, a fancy bonnet and a not so fancy bonnet, a fun loose woven shawl and a basket of apples. So here are some pictures to show you…

  1. Everything came together so well, Jeanne, and the blue of the material brings out Kirsten’s blue eyes. The dress fits so well, and the apron is so delicate and sweet! The dress itself looks dressed up, with the waistband and buttons, growth tucks and full sleeves, yet has a practical side too for living on a prairie. The little shawl just tops it off, and the pantalettes finish it to perfection!

One thing I noticed, I did not recognize Kirsten at first, since I am used to seeing her in looped braids. Did the bonnets make it hard to do that? I love the idea of having two different bonnets too, and whoever get this outfit will have fun with it for sure!

How abut this cooler weather? Fall is finally here!!!!

    1. Thank you for all your sweet compliments Linda. I do like this set very much too. In person, somehow it seems different… not as flat, but more 3 D when you see her bonnet all puffed up and her apron standing out from her dress.
I had her hair in one braid down the back and took it out, but I think I may put it back in. I also liked her hair down and just flowing…so I may do some pictures of it that way too. I could try the looped braids, but just thought down or in braids was more casual…
      We’ll see I guess..
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Kirsten’s outfit/bonnets are just so fresh for fall weather, Jeanne. You’ve created another very pretty ensemble. Thanks for taking time to show us.

No doubt your mom truly appreciated the help you gave her with her phone. Children can be so helpful!

    Blessings.

    1. Thank you Becky,
I’m glad you like Kirsten’s dress set. I’m glad it’s finished and now I have to decide who will be next…
I don’t know how much help I really was… we tried 2 different phones and still have to wait on a repair man on Friday to come… too much static on her line… I wasn’t able to fix that.
      Thanks again,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Love the whole ensemble for Kristen, the basket, all the details in both bonnets and the darling apron, all the details you are known for.

Thanks, Anne, for the tips about where to find the photography lighting kits. I simply couldn’t believe the reasonable prices. They have Christmas present for my daughter-in-law written all over them for taking pictures of her Chinese brush paintings for her website. I had suggested a light box for photography, directions found on YouTube, and these lights would be perfect to use with it. George could make it in a few hours for next to nothing. Also a Gorilla, believe it or not, which is a small tripod used to steady a camera on a table is available for under $10 on eBay. This equipment would eliminate the shadows or blurring in photographing the details of the beautiful doll clothes. Thanks for sharing the information.

    1. HI Susette,
Thank you for your sweet comments on Kirsten’s dress.
I too, appreciated Anne’s links and spent some time looking at the different lights too. I think I see lights in my future… :o)
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Well, I posted a bit ago while on my husband’s computer. Usually always post there. And the post did not show up. ?? Just like yesterday. Yahoo did a bunch of updates on his computer over the weekend. That must be the problem.
Anyway, Kirsten’s dress set is gorgeous.
Think you need a Jeanne Day every so often. You know, a day to sew, lunch with friends, some time just for you. You are so considerate of others and such a hard worker.

    1. HI Joy,
Well, my younger sister just told me this morning she is coming home this weekend, so I think I will find some Jeanne time in there… also there are friends of mine who have birthdays all within a short period of time… so we might do something for all of them together.
Thanks for always leaving your thoughts here, Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Kirsten’s completed outfit is so charming! Simple and sweet, but certainly not plain, her calico dress and embroidered apron are the ideal balance of prairie practicality and Scandinavian artistry. From the stand-up collar and bow, to the waist buttons, to the growth tucks, your attention to detail is always impressive, Jeanne. Kirsten will surely be the prettiest girl at her family reunion, and the basket of apples is the perfect accessory for a fall get-together. Congratulations on another lovely dolly ensemble.

So Joy used to develop photos in a closet! My son began shooting pictures as a young boy, but a black-and-white photography class as a Freshman in high school cemented his career choice. He loved the dark room! Suzette, I’m glad you found some useful info in my post yesterday. Here in Columbus, we have several stores that buy, sell and trade in new and used photo equipment, and I’m sure there are many others around the country. Good quality used equipment also is available very reasonably on eBay, including standard tripods.

    Wishing all a blessed Wednesday!

    1. HI Anne,
Thank you, once again, for your very lovely compliments on Kirsten’s dress. I appreciate all the kind things you said about it. She really does look prettiest in blue…whether she’s on the prairie or not. :o)
My brother and his father in law are super into cameras and picture taking… I think the next time he comes down, I’m going to pick his brain… and there is also a man at my church who is a very good photographer… I may ask him for some advice…but I’m really thinking strongly about some of those photography lights with the white screens…
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

    2. I love black and white photos. Used to be so much fun. Inside a totally black closet with an old army blanket over the door outside to prevent any light coming in. Surprised I didn’t suffocate in there. Once the film was threaded into the can by feel, you could come out and then do the chemicals in the light. I seemed to always have negatives hanging in my shower drying. Wow, brings back memories. I had an old film canister sitting around and my grandson said what is that? I told him it was for film. He’s 5. What is film? Boy am I old.

      1. Hi Joy,
I loved the image you painted for us of you in the dark closet developing your rolls of film. That is one thing I never tried!
        Thanks for sharing,
        Blessings, Jeanne

  6. This is the perfect blue for Kirsten’s eyes. It’s a lovely dress and all the details are just right. Imagine trying to make one bonnet with the evil fabric you first considered. Over and over, we are realizing that your decision to be done with that fabric was the right one. I think the shawl is prettier with this blue too.

Who is next? I wonder about a dressy fall afternoon dress for Josefina that would also suit Caroline (or Elizabeth). In no time, you’ll have to make a Thanksgiving outfit so that you’ll be ready for Christmas sewing. There’s something about this season — the time goes by very quickly.

    1. HI Marilyn,
Yes, you are so right…that first fabric was my “evil fabric!” There’s no other word for it. I should put a note on it before I take my bag into the Thrift store…”DO NOT TRY SEWING WITH THIS FABRIC!”
George is wanting a haircut but I told him I needed to get Kirsten’s dress listed first. I was hoping maybe I could take some pictures outside, but it’s kind of breezy out so I may just stick with inside…
Thanks Marilyn… I don’t know who is next yet… I need to look over my fabrics and see what grabs me…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Well, late to comment again. since I’ve been out and about all day. The weather was gorgeous. Kirsten looks stunning in her new prairie dress. The blue is just perfect for her eyes and that crisp white apron complements the dress so well. I love the two bonnets, each is pretty in its unique way. The shawl is a must have for any prairie girl when the prairie winds blow.I see she’s been apple picking as well. We used to go to an orchard every year to pick a few bushels.
I’m with Marilyn in that I would love to see a Regency dress or perhaps an early 1900’s. Unless, of course, you want to do a Colonial, Felicity could be making apple butter.

    1. Hi Laura,
Thank you for your kind comments on Kirsten’s dress. I think she was made for blue dresses!
I am going to decide who is next ip…but I do like the idea of a Regency dress…
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Hi Jeanne,
I’m late reading your blog so I’ll say happy almost hump day 🙂 Kristen’s dress is just the perfect color! It’s a lovely blue and sure makes her eyes pop.. So pretty. I love the 2 different bonnets, what a neat idea. The winner of this outfit will be very happy no doubt. Enjoy your visit with your sis.

    1. Thank you Ingrid,
Kirsten is still laying down in the same position she was in the picture I posted at the bottom of my Ebay listing. She must be tired!
I have to agree with you…blue is definitely Kirsten’s color. I should count how many of the 40 dresses I’ve made her have been blue. I bet quite a few…
Thank you so much for your comments…
      Blessings, Jeanne
