To make up for NOT getting Felicity’s dress listed on Ebay, I’m… I’m …I’m…

…I’m having a GIVEAWAY!!! How long has it been since we had one? I can’t remember the last one… so I thought it was time. I didn’t have time to get Felicity’s dress listed on Ebay, so I had to do something that would make you happy! I think this will.

I’ve never had a GIVEAWAY for a pair of THIGH HIGHS before… that I can remember… so I thought I’d give them a try. They fit the American Girl dolls and just slide up your dolls legs. The nice thing about thigh highs is they don’t have that bulk at the waist like tights do…

Here is a picture of them…

They can be snagged if you have rough hands, so I’ll show you how I put them on… slip them over her foot and using your hand, sort of wiggle them around as you slide them up your doll’s legs… like this…

Viola!

Now, I’m feeling extra thankful this GIVEAWAY, so I’m adding a second pair. Yep, I’m giving away 2 pairs of thigh highs… here’s the second pair…

Now, how do you get in the drawing for them? You have to leave a comment below or send me an email (use the Contact Me tab under the header) telling me WHAT YOUR FAVORITE THANKSGIVING SIDE dish is…besides the turkey. Is it the mashed potatoes, the green bean casserole, the cranberry relish, the rolls, the dressing, etc? Whatever it is, let me know and that will register you for the drawing. I’ll randomly pick out 2 names and announce the winners of the thigh highs on my blog Tuesday. YOu have until midnight Central Standard Time Monday night…

Thanks so much everyone!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. You can’t believe how timely this is, Jeanne! I have been dressing my dolls for Thanksgiving, also getting ideas on what they will be wearing for Christmas, and wish I had some thigh highs for them that weren’t plain and smooth! AG seems to only make tights for the 18 inchers, so a pair of thigh highs with a pattern and color would be nice.
One thing you didn’t mention, since you don’t use Velcro much, if ever, to always put the tights or thigh highs on AFTER you get the dress on, because the Velcro can easily snag the tights, and that has happened to me more that once, no matter how careful I am!

So my favorite side dish for Thanksgiving is the candied sweet potatoes! I only make them for Thanksgiving, because, well, you know—the waistline problems, but my mother always made them, and I carried it on, and I will say it’s one dish that my whole family loves! And that’s saying something!!

    1. HI Linda,
Good point about putting on the thigh highs AFTER the doll is dress to combat any velcro snags. Thanks for that tip!
Yum…candied sweet potatoes… I make a sweet potato souffle that is probably about the same thing… It’s my favorite! I only make mine at Thanksgiving too!
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Charlotte Trayer

Hi Jeanne!! I can’t believe I actually read your blog in time to enter the drawing this time!! And I’m sure that April (or one of my other AGs) would love a pair of thigh-highs!!

So…..my favorite side dish? I’d have to say probably the stuffing with apples, celery and raisins (if it’s been inside the bird) and of course the gravy. Also the cranberries–I really love cranberries! A few years ago, Doll Castle News had a wonderful recipe for cranberry sauce with mandarin oranges in it, that was just yummy!! My dad especially loved it….which means, I guess, it must have been more than a “few” years ago! It was 13 years ago, because I made it for what would be his last Thanksgiving, and he died the following April (2005).

    1. Charlotte Trayer

I guess I should have said, if the stuffing has been cooked inside the bird–love that flavor!!

      1. Hi Charlotte,
I bet there surely must be a thousand recipes for Thanksgiving stuffing/dressing! Everyone has a different recipe… yummy!
        Thank you so much,
        Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Good Morning Jeanne, Oh those thigh highs are so cute! What a great give away, you are so generous with your readers.

Picking a favorite side dish is tough, our family favors traditional foods for this holiday so I guess I have to say the corn casserole with cornbread and cheese …yum. My sister makes a fantastic liver pate for an appetizer and that is such a treat.

Have a wonderful day & hopefully you get Felicity’s outfit listed real soon. I know that can be a lot of work, especially with EBay changing things all the time.

    1. HI Leigh,
Oh, I forgot about corn casserole… I just told Linda Sweet Potato Souffle is my favorite…but now I’m changing it to corn casserole… my “other favorite!”
      Thanks so much for participating…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. They are beautiful thigh highs. Whoever wins them will be very lucky indeed.
I think my favorite extra (not sure it is truly a side dish) would be the gravy. I like it on almost everything – the turkey, the dressing, the potatoes — not the pumpkin pie! And I can’t imagine Thanksgiving without the gravy.
Hope you have a good day!
    Take care —

  5. Again, Jeanne, I read every day, just don’t comment much. I know my granddaughter would love the thigh highs for her AG.
My favorite dish is my grandmother’s cornbread oyster dressing, which I make every year with our succulent coastal oysters.
    You and your hubby have
    been in my prayers.

    1. HI Sissy,
Thanks for reading each day…I know you’re there! :o)
I’ve heard about oyster dressing, but I don’t think I’ve ever tried it! I might have to…
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Honestly…I always look forward to the stuffing! We only eat it when we have a big turkey! 🙂 I’m not sure what my girls would think about ‘thigh highs’…. they’ve never worn them – I wonder what they would think they ‘feel like’ on their legs. (snicker). I hope your day is warm and cozy!

  7. Hands down, my Beloved Grandmother and Motherr’s Southern Cornbread Dressing. This dressing is not baked inside the turkey, but is baked in a large baking pan and includes juices from the baking turkey; the fresh cornbread is made the day before. I have tried for years to make it as delicious as they did, but mine just does not compare. but is close enough to enjoy. I LOVE the light pink thigh highs and would count it a HUGE BLESSING if I were to win one of the two that you are so generously offering as a give away. God Bless you Jeanne and your family this Thanksgiving.

    1. HI Laureen,
I thought your eyes would light up when you saw today’s giveaway! Thanks for asking about them… :o) I’m working on more!
      More dressing… please!
      Thanks Laureen,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. I think we need an I Dream of Jeanne Marie Thanksgiving Side Dish Cookbook. These recipes sound wonderful. My family makes oyster dressing, but a cornbread oyster dressing sounds interesting and good, and I’ve always wanted to try the apple and raisin kind. I’ve enjoyed your signature corn casserole, which is in the same file as Linda’s pickles, but a corn casserole with cornbread and cheese is something I’ve never eaten and would like to. I make cranberries with orange juice, lemon rind, cinnamon, and a dash of cloves (and more sugar than is usual because my dad did not like things sour) but I’d love to know more about the cranberry/mandarin orange version. I have a nice memory of standing over the hot stove with 2 of my sisters, all of us staring at the gravy, trying to get it to thicken.
Two side dishes we like that are less common are both from Better Homes and Gardens. One is the 24 hour salad, made with oranges, cherries, pineapple, and whipped cream, and the other is pearl onions in cheese sauce with peanuts on top. I think the second recipe is from Williamsburg. We started making both when I was in college and they became instant traditions.
Also from BH&G are the butterhorn rolls that I’ve been making since high school. One year for some reason the top browned and the bottoms didn’t, so I turned them upside down and browned the bottoms. I was always baking these at midnight, so no one else was up to notice, but the next day — Thanksgiving or Christmas — when I told my parents, they realized that the bottom heating unit in the oven had died. I think we had fried ham, mashed potatoes, green salad, and rolls — not our best holiday dinner — and got the oven repaired the next day so that we could have our turkey dinner then.
Those rolls are our family tradition, but on impulse last year, I also made some Amish rolls from King Arthur Flour. KAF had extensively changed the recipe (they showed the original as well), but both my brothers-in-law recognized them as the rolls their great aunts had made every year from memory, so now I’m making them so that Larry and Doug can taste their own memories on Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Your thigh-highs are wonderful. I’d like both pairs and a dozen more. This giveaway is a great idea.

    1. HI Marilyn,
I think you’re right about a cookbook… we might have to figure out some way to exchange recipes from everyone.. Doesn’t everything sound scrumptious?
I must have asked this question before, because I remember you saying you made butterhorn rolls… that’s something I wouldn’t have forgotten. They sound delish and I love that story of how the heating element went out on your oven… just as you needed to bake them… but you figured out how to do it, by flipping them over! Smart cookie you are!
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. Hi Jeanne,

Your thigh highs look so cozy and warm. Some dolls will be eager for those on these chilly days.

My favorite side dish has always been the stuffing/dressing. With lots of celery, onions and BUTTER, it comes out mighty tasty along with the giblets that have been simmered earlier and then added to the rest of the ingredients…and did I say, SAGE adds a most delicious note too? The other dressings sound most interesting. I’m not sure I ever had the opportunity to try a cornbread, let along oyster stuffing! Diversity in tastes helps make the world go round!

    Blessings.

    1. HI Becky,
It sounds like your recipe for dressing and ours is very similar. I can remember my mom breaking up bread and putting it on a big sheet all over the bed, to dry out… and then it was scooped up and lots of giblets and juices and lots of sage was used…. yummy! We baked in a separate pan… or should I say pans??? :o)
      Thanks Becky,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. Hi Jeanne,
I read your blog every morning since I discovered it a year or so ago and I just love your brood of girls!
My favorite dish at Thanksgiving is STUFFING!! I use a recipe my mom used from a 1967 Better Homes and Gardens magazine. She made copies for my two sisters and me. It’s a pretty basic recipe, but it’s all about the memories– my mom used to let us girls toast the bread and cut it in a million little cubes and that is still what I do. Oh, and one line of the recipe says to add onion, celery and “fat” of course referring to the butter, but I always get a kick out of reading that!
Here’s to a Happy Thanksgiving to all!
    Linda

    1. Thank you Linda, for coming out of “lurkdom” to comment and tell us about your stuffing recipe. Stuffing/Dressing seems to be the big winner here today! Lots of variations and lots of mouth watering recipes!
Thanks so much for contributing today!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  11. I’m a newbie. Just joined your group yesterday in time for a give away. I like the idea of the thigh high socks eliminating the bulk at the waist. My favorite side for Thanksgiving would be cranberry relish. I always make extra to have later in the week. Love your blog, spent most of yesterday reading past posts. I am absolutely in awe of your sewing talent. Thank you so much for writing. I will become a loyal reader. J Lynn

    1. HI J Lynn and welcome to my blog! Thank you for joining yesterday… You’re just in time for all the fun to begin!
Cranberry relish… yay… we have a new dish to celebrate!
Thanks for catching up on some past posts of mine. I’m glad you are enjoying them!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  12. The thigh highs do look cozy and warm as Becky says. Love this cooler weather as all my dolls do too? Isn’t that interesting that they like what I like!
For Thanksgiving, my favorite dishes are the mashed potatoes & gravy, scalloped corn and dressing. No one in my immediate family likes mash potatoes but me and none of us really like turkey. We usually bake a ham with all the Thanksgiving trimmings. I’m picky about the gravy and dressing coming from a turkey so I look for brown dressing at the store- no turkey juices, which is about impossible to get around.
    Everyone have a great Monday!

    1. Oh yum, Paula… mashed potatoes and gravy! It has to go right next to the turkey, (or ham in your case) so it can share some drizzled gravy. Oh, my mouth is watering!
What a yummy post this has turned out to be!
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

    1. I just got a 25 pound box of cranberries at the Food Pantry… I need some cranberry recipes I think!
      ~ Jeanne

  13. Wow, so many comments and it’s only after 7:00AM. And after reading them, I am starving and definitely ready for a Thanksgiving meal instead of yogurt and oatmeal.
My favorite side is Broccoli Cheese Casserole. Definitely not fat free, but I’ve never found anyone who didn’t enjoy it. Chopped broccoli, onion, mayo, mushroom soup, eggs, and sharp Cheddar cheese topped with buttery bread crumbs. I’ve been making it every Thanksgiving for almost thirty years. Now if I can have everyone above all zoom on over here and each make their favorite, I’d be way ahead of schedule. 🙂 Everything sounds so delicious, and even though an oyster has never graced our house, I’m game to try them. 🙂
I would love some thigh highs for Santa to bring to our little grand who is getting her first AG dolly this year. I know she will be very careful with them.
    What a fun post today.

    1. Just remembered, is your sister making special gifts for employees this year for the holiday party? Hope so as her inspirations are always so fun to see. Oh the talent!

    2. HI Joy,
I love that broccoli casserole too. My recipe sounds just like yours but we called it Broccoli Supreme Casserole… funny, isn’t it?
Everyone can come to YOUR house, just as soon as they come to MY house first!

It’s funny that you remembered Cindy’s gifts for the employees where her hubby works. She did send me a picture, I’ll have to ask her if I can show it… they are very pretty!
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  14. My favorite side Thanksgiving is mashed potatoes with that yummy turkey gravy slathered all over them:) I just wish turkey didn’t put me to sleep so quickly afterwards! LOL

Love making thigh high socks too..adding panties as an extra. That way, these accessories can stretch farther in their wardrobes..and no bulk at the waistline. I always like the way you do wide stretch lace on you petticoats for exactly that reason, Jeanne!

    1. HI Shara,
Is there anything more comforting than mashed potatoes and gravy! It surely must be one of the food groups, isn’t it????
      Thanks so much Shara,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  15. I love all thanksgiving foods, but if I have to choose a favorite, it would be my husband’s pumpkin pie. It’s a recipe from Cooks Illustrated that uses pumpkin and sweet potato, and it’s to die for! He doesn’t even like pumpkin pie, but he makes it every year because he knows I love it so. 🙂

    1. HI Melody,
Oh… Cooks Illustrated… how can you go wrong with anything from them??? I bet this pumpkin pie is delicious! Oh, I think your hubby is scoring some brownie points with you! :o)
      Thanks Melody!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  16. My favorite side is my daughter’s recipe for cranberry sauce. She makes it with pears to sweeten the cranberries with maybe a little honey if the sauce is too tart. Luckily we luv tartness! Gosh, Thanksgiving is coming fast! Time to make the shopping list…

    1. HI Donna,
I know what you mean about Thanksgiving coming fast. I’m not ready… slow down, please!!!
Another cranberry recipe… it’s doing pretty well!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  17. I can’t help it and my round shape atests to it. Mashed potatoes and gravy. I will be making them for our family meal this year. That will be a lot of potatoes. One son in law can eat 5 pounds on his own.

    1. HI April,
Oh my goodness, that’s a lot of potatoes! I hope you make 10 pounds so everyone else can get some! :o)
They really are the best with turkey and gravy!!! Oh, yum…
      Thanks April,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  18. I wish I knew how to make thigh highs. All my dolls of various sizes need them.

My favorite dish? The combination of mashed potatoes, my gravy, my own family’s dressing (no other will do) and roast turkey all mushed together on the plate, followed by my apple pie (no other will do). Picky? Well, yea. LOL

    1. HI Kathleen,
I’ve almost reached the bottom of the comments and now I’m getting REALLY hungry for all the Thanksgiving fixings! Oh, yum…an apple pie sounds so delicious!
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  19. I have just read all of the above Thanksgiving favorites and I have to say That I love all of them. My favorite–I love them all. Lumpy mashed potatoes, covered with gravy, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, cornbread dressing, hot yeast rolls, and a little turkey. I like cranberry sauce, but not with turkey. I guess my favorite would be dressing covered with gravy.
My girls would love the stockings–their legs get cold in the winter–

    1. HI Diana,
George’s brother (Larry) that just passed away, was a “lumpy” mashed potatoes kind of guy. We stopped using our mixer for a while and just used a potato masher to keep some of the lumps in the potatoes… :o)
Oh, you’ve covered it all, and it sounds so delicious! Hungry anyone??? I am!
      Thanks Diana,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  20. Love the thigh highs! Those would be awesome to win. I really am debating about a favorite Thanksgiving side dish. I like so many of them. I guess I like the dressing the best, and I like to eat it mixed with the cranberry sauce. My family likes the cranberry relish my mom makes, but I’m partial to the jelly kind out of the can and always buy a can just for me!

    1. HI Carolyn,
I like the jellied cranberry sauce too… I remember opening the can at both end and then taking a knife and running it around the inside of the can to loosen the cranberry… then we gave it little push and out it came on a saucer… then we took a knife and sliced it into 1/2″ slices or so… yummy!
      Thanks Carolyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  21. I’m really late commenting today. I just got back from driving out to San Dimas, California, to meet up with my best friend from Burtonwood American High School in England at an Air Force Base. We hadn’t seen each other in 59 years! We’ve been in contact since one of our classmates “found” a lot of us on the internet in 2000 but hadn’t seen each other. She had ten children, four sets of twins and two singletons, and looks great and is in a wonderful state of health!

Love the little stockings. If you made a bunch, I’ll bet they would sell very well on your Etsy site. I still worry about Mama and the microwave. Love that so many people commented. This may set a record.

    1. HI Susette,
I hope you had a wonderful day with your best friend….and oh, my goodness… four sets of twins? That’s amazing! I bet it was non-stop chattering with you both and I hope you won’t be strangers any more! :o)
I am going to do my best to get some thigh highs in my Etsy shop!

When I went over to my mom’s (regarding the microwave) she had apparently figured it out… and there didn’t seem to be a problem anymore… She probably just forgot how to use it…
Well, so far, it’s going to be the biggest drawing we’ve had… :o)
      Thanks Susette,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  22. A giveaway, how fun. I’m probably the last one on today.
Well, green bean casserole is something that we have never had for Thanksgiving etc. I’ve only had that at potlucks. My favorite Thanksgiving side dish would have to be a tie between my Nanny’s ( maternal grandmother) made from scratch dressing and her jelled cranberry salad followed by the homemade rolls and pumpkin and apple pies. Lucky for me, I have all her recipes and we can make them AND serve them on her dishes just as we use the other china for Christmas.
    Brings back such happy memories

    1. HI Laura,
Well, as I’ve reached the end of the comments (at least for now), it seems that dressing was the big winner! So many variations and so many recipes..but every one of them special for the one’s whose tables they will grace!
I hope you have a wonderfully delicious Thanksgiving this year!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  23. Holy cow…offer a give away and your comment section is HUGE! ??I know why…those thigh highs are wonderful! The no bulk at the waist is a plus too.
I must add my favorite to the “stuffing” group too….my moms recipe. We all love it but only make it on Thanksgiving. Why is that? It would be good anytime.

    1. HI Kathie,
You just made it… well, with 30 minutes to spare! I’ve got you in!
Another vote for stuffing…it is by far the big winner today!
      Thanks Kathie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  24. Started reading the article, as always for interesting ideas for clothing. Today was no exception with the darling thigh highs. Then all the ideas for side dishes was a wonderful bonus..I’d vote for stuffing, for sure!

    Happy thanksgiving to all!
