The last of the Straw Hats…if you haven’t seen your favorite, maybe you will today…

I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing many of the straw hats I’ve decorated over the last 10 years. I have certainly kept my glue gun busy, haven’t I? You can definitely pick out those early pictures, can’t you? Maybe you’ll find your favorite straw hat in today’s grouping of pictures. If you missed yesterday’s and the day before’s, you can see them HERE and HERE.

Well, I think that’s enough straw hats for awhile… let’s do something different tomorrow… Okay, so did you have a favorite in all those hats?

See you tomorrow,

Elizabeth, as you once said, is a wonderful model and always looks good, but Addy should have more credit for her style — someone mentioned yesterday how nice she always looks. Of course, she has a very nice era for clothes, and as someone said about Cecile and Marie-Grace, your clothes for her are much nicer than those sold by AG. I’m especially fond of the detail on Addy’s yellow dress and would love to see a full-length picture.
You mentioned making a scrap-book the other day. You might do it in volumes, with all the AG outfits in one book, and the others in another unless you have enough for a whole Effner volume, which is quite possible.
Another outfit I especially liked is Lark’s black dress and lovely nearly plain hat. It’s one of my very favorite Lark outfits.
In all cases, your hair styling ability should get a lot of credit.

    1. Hi Marilyn,
I think I have mentioned it or maybe shown it but Addy’s yellow dress with the black buttons was probably my favorite Civil War dress. I absolutely loved that dress!
Actually that blonde doll is Wren and I still remember the day my hubby took me to this little antique shop and found 2 rolls of that vintage lace on her dress.
You all have got me really thinking of making that picture book…how fun would that be?
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. I gave up trying to keep track of the numbers of photos in which the flowers exactly match the fabric. Have you thought about publishing a book of your dresses? People publish on all sorts of subjects and I think this one would have a great market everywhere, at doll shows, Amazon, eBay and book stores. I’d certainly look into it if I had this many original creations. You might also want to copyright the pictures as it’s not difficult to do.

I didn’t quite “get” the dropped shoulder seams on the Addy dresses until I got out the pictures of my great many-times-over grandmothers. Your dresses are so authentic in design. I can’t believe how many wonderfully detailed dresses you’ve made!

    1. Hi Susette,
Thanks for your thoughts on the book…what a fun idea to think about even if it never materializes.
Thank you so much for your very sweet compliments Susette,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. I would buy a book by you! For years I have been saving images to sew dresses not for dolls but for my granddaughters–not that I have but I do dream of being you when I grow up (a good trick since you are younger than me). Maybe after everyone gets a quilt for their birthday (3 and another due any day) this year, I can start doing dresses before they are “too grown up”. Effanbee Katie is my favorite model since I have a Duffle Katie and the dress with the hat is simply beautiful. Your attention to detail inside and out are jaw dropping! Keep up the good work and thank you for all the inspiration.

    1. Hi Donna,
I had to laugh when you said you wanted to be me when you “grew up!” That sort of made my day!!!
I almost got a Katie Duffle but got Mommy’s Garden Party…is that her name? She was a cutie to sew for but the market for fell and I sold her Amy black headed one… Scotty something?
Thank you for your sweet comments Donna,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Again, beautiful dresses and hats. Just beautiful. The little peach hat on the 5th doll down from the top is precious. Josefina’s pale green and black dress and hat are stunning and Addy does it again looking wonderful in her outfits. Love those dresses.
How did you get the apples and the hem of the dress to stay up on Kirsten’s dress?

I’ve been hunting on Ebay for an Elizabeth doll. Felicity needs a friend and both girls will need clothes! I have other dolls that could certainly live in the Colonial days but there is something about Elisabeth’s look that is so Colonial- looking.
    Have a good day, Jeanne

    1. Thank you Paula,
I’m glad everyone enjoyed the doll hats.
You asked about Kirsten’s apron filled with apples…. I think I remember pinning the apron up with pins and then hiding them behind her hands. It was pretty simple.
There are lots of Elizabeth dolls listed on eBay all the time. I’m sure you will find one that’s perfect. I do love my Elizabeth.
I have been having fun at my brothers house and being with his boys…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. I love straw hats and all of the hats a really nice. I would say that of all the photos I have to pick Josefina in the aqua and black with the black straw hat..just beautiful!

    1. Hi Regina, oh you picked one of my all time favorites…I think that particular Picture was one of my all time favorite pictures of any doll and definitely my favorite of Josefina….
      Thank you so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. As usual, I love the hat on Felicity. I really like the outfit you made for Addy that is yellow with all the tiny little buttons decorating the bodice. The hat with the dress is made to match. I Also like the soft green Addy dress. The muted colors on that hat are very striking and unexpected.
Hope you have a wonderful Saturday.

    1. Hi Laura, oops I got your comment in the wrong section. It’s funny how everyone has favorites but they seem to be the same favorites!
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. HI Jeanne,
Hope your days off were good!
Mmmmm so hard to pick a favorite hat but I guess the one I like the best is the plain one with black ribbon because it fits down on her head. The combo of the plain hat and the rich look of the dress and lace just took my eye…of course a Helen Kish doll always jumps out at me too 🙂
Thanks for the “Hat Display”…loved it.

    1. Hi Kathie,
Wel my days off are just beginning…today was my first day…and my first train ride. It was fun!
Thank you for the compliments on Wren’s dress and hat.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Samantha’s little lavender dress is stunning. The square buttons and ribbon trim match so well. And I agree with Regina and Paula, Josephina in the aqua and black is stunning. The plain black hat is a perfect match.
Hope your cold goes away quickly and that you are having an enjoyable time with family.

    1. Hi Joy and thank you for your kind words about my dresses and hats,
      I’m glad you enjoyed them.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. The orange trimmed hat and bow on the braid really stands out for me because I fall for orange anytime.

    1. Hi Jan,
Yes, that’s Katie Effanbee and isn’t she adorable?
I love that picture of her too…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. Jeanne, I give up! You have made so many darling hats and outfits, that I am getting dizzy just looking, not to mention pick my favorite! I do agree with Jan that the orange trimmed hat is just adorable, and I too love the black and white outfit and hat. And that yellow dress for Addy! So pretty and it looks very striking on her!

Then that last picture of Elizabeth is just adorable, and I absolutely LOVE Josefina’s green outfit! I think I am going to call it a day and give up! 🙂

Hope you are feeling good and the cold was a teensy one!

    1. Hi Linda,
Well the cold is a huge one and makes me quite miserable, but that’s okay…I’m with family and keeping busy, so I’ll survive. It’s decided to settle in my eyes, ears, and my throat is so scratchy…I’m living on cough drops!
Thanks so much for all your sweet comments Linda. I do appreciate them.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  11. Felicity and Elizabeth’s hat are winners for me…all of them are wonderful, but they are the ones that “sing” to me. All lovely…thanks for sharing.

    1. Hi Becky,
How could you not love a Colonial or Civil War hat? My favorites too…
      Blessings, Jeanne
