The flu or not the flu? That is the question…

Hi everyone,
It’s me…Jeanne, and thankfully, I am once again at my computer….well, actually I’m sitting on the couch using my iPad. Thank you for all the wonderful well wishes and kind notes you’ve sent my way the last couple of days.

When we last chatted…actually you all did the chatting this time, I told you there would be no post because I had the flu. When we got home from Gloria’s I knew I had the start of a urinary tract infection but didn’t go to the doctor because I already had an appointment coming up on Wednesday…and I was getting ready for my company. Sure enough…I had a UTI. I was given an antibiotic and sent home. I decided I’d start the antibiotic that evening after my company left.

I took it and almost immediately I felt crummy. I was up all through the night and felt like my throat was tight and closing up. There was an awful metallic taste in my mouth and I had the worst headache ever. The next morning, my hubby asked, “Is it turning into the flu?” I told him it sure felt like it, but it really wasn’t like I was achy all over like the flu’s I’ve had before. I took another antibiotic pill Thursday morning because I just wanted this to be over. I started feeling sick again…this time with “other nasty symptoms!” I went back to bed and stayed there all day, only drinking water…sorry, no movies ladies. I was just feeling too awful. Even when my hubby came in to check on me, I could only answer with “huh-uh” or “uh-huh” and didn’t even open my eyes.

Well, to get to the end of this story…after staying in bed all day Friday too, my hubby thought it was smart to give the doctor a call and see what might be happening. She was concerned that I was having a negative reaction to the a antibiotic. Well, I guess so! She wanted me to stop it and prescribed a new one. I started taking it Saturday evening and am feeling better now. Not wonderful but better. That’s a pretty crummy story for a blog post, but I wanted to let you all know… I received lots of emails from concerned readers… Thank you again.

I HAVE to get better…my sister, Deb is coming home Wednesday for a few days.

Needless to say, there was no activity in “my” sewing room, but I did do a little dreaming yesterday afternoon and tried to think of some posts for this week that would keep you happy. So, we have a couple of pinch hitters today filling in for me, until I get totally back on my feet.

Susette sent me this sweet picture of some pajamas she made for her grand kids, Riya and Krish, in West Virginia. Riya likes to wear tee shirts with pajama pants so Susette made her and her doll a matching pair. A “Paris” tee shirt has been ordered for both girls and Susette is waiting on them. For Krish, she made a pair of batman pajamas. Aren’t they both adorable? He’s going to love those Susette! Susette was pretty proud that she mastered her buttonholer! Yay for Susette! (They can be intimidating!)

If you click on any picture, it will enlarge.

Also, it looks to me like Susette’s girls were having a slumber party in the living room! (Actually Susette was showing someone else Samantha’s bed and I snagged this picture!)

“Someone” here on the blog, just became a new mom to Samantha! She can’t wait for her to come home and I can see why. I’ve seen a picture of the doll and she’s very pretty! Congratulations __________!

Today we’ll also find Linda’s girls in the Pumpkin Patch! Don’t they look like they are having fun? I love the scenes you create Linda…

…and one more bit of news… Marilyn, who lives in Colorado, is expecting SNOW tonight… 4-6 inches is what I saw predicted! EEK! Let’s all say it together, “POOR MARILYN!”

Well, I’m planning on being back here tomorrow… hope you are too!
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Jeanne, I’m so happy to hear you are on the mend, and you finally got it figured out! Urinary tract infections are no walk in the park, but when you have that on top of bad reactions to the drug that is supposed to cure it, good grief!

I love that picture of Susette’s girls having a slumber party, not to mention the beautiful living room in the background!! I love the carpet, Susette! You are a wonderful grandmother to take the time to make pj’s for Krish and Riya! Everythign is so cute!

Let’s hope Marilyn’s snow, if it happened, melts soon!

    1. Thank you, Linda,
Sitting and writing my blog post last night felt wonderful. I missed it too!
I’m so glad you and Susette bailed me out… once again. It’s fun to share pictures…and see other people’s ideas.
Have a great day, Linda… I hope to.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Thank you for the honor of helping out a bit, but I do hope people don’t think I’m “hogging” the blog! We sent pictures to cheer you up. I love Linda’s vignettes, always so creative and detailed, but they give me so many ideas and I think maybe I have to have this outfit or that accessory. I kid Linda that she is contributing to the delinquency of an adult.

From a medical standpoint, be careful if that’s Macrobid (furosemide) that is sometimes given for UTIs. It liked to finished me off. So sorry that’s what’s happening. It can certainly be miserable to have a reaction and it takes a while to figure it out.

Thank you, Jeanne, for every single post. It’s wonderful to have a friend who shares so much with us, the lovely doll clothes and how to make them (as if I could), your life experiences, both cheerful and not so much, and your living example of your Faith that we get in our email to start our mornings. Get well quickly and back to enjoying your sewing.

    1. Hi Susette,
I know you sent those pictures to cheer me up and I’m SO glad you did. You have a lovely looking living room…and seem to be quite the decorator…inside and out!

It WAS Macrobid that I was taking. Yikes! When George took me over to my moms on Saturday to see my brother and his wife, I heard a scary story. Jennifer is a health coach and a friend who introduced her to the field, had quite a story. She had a UTI and had taken ONE Macrobid pill and ended up in a wheelchair for 3 years. She was sicker than sick and thought she would be like this for the rest of her life. Well, good news for her, through detoxing her body, clean eating and essential oils, she is now out of that wheelchair and healthy.
Jennifer told me that they had stopped prescribing this drug for UTI’s but it was still helpful for other things.
I had no idea at the time when Jennifer was telling me this, that my medicine was the same name…I couldn’t even remember the name of it…that gives me the worst feeling. I’m going to tell my dr on Wednesday what all happened.
It’s just good to be on the mend,
      Thank you Susette,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. So, my AGs will soon have a new companion. And, in fact, we have our first snow of the season. It’s later than sometimes, and because we’ve had rain when we should have had snow, the leaves are only starting to turn. So far, the snow is sticking to everything but the streets and the sidewalks are only partly covered. It’s 32 degrees, going to 35 with a chance of rain, and sun the rest of the week. No big deal, except that it is the first snowfall here.

I am so pleased that you are recovering from both the infection and the allergy. It will be lovely to feel better and begin recovering your energy. You can rest today — though you probably won’t, and get ready for Deb tomorrow. You have Susette’s slumber party to help you relax today, and Linda’s pumpkin patch adventure to inspire energy tomorrow. And then you have Deb. It’s going to be a good week after a wretched start.

    1. Hi Marilyn,
As I was getting in bed last night, I wondered if the snow actually arrived or not. It sounds like a pretty snowfall…and with the sun coming out, it can be enjoyed but it won’t cause any headaches.
Congratulations on your new Samantha! You will love her…and so will your girls!

It is going to be a much better start to the week than last week. My house is still somewhat cleaned up from my company…but I can always find “something” else to do.
I’m looking forward to Deb coming…wish Cindy could come too..oh, my, we could have some serious fun!
      Thanks Marilyn…stay warm!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Hi Jeanne
So glad to hear you are feeling better. Be sure to list that medication as one that you are or possibly are allergic to. I am in the process of making a “health” notebook for both my husband and me with dividers for Test Results ie: Blood Work, CT Scans etc; Dr Notes (my notes from various appointments) whatever is pertinent. It is just too hard to remember where I put things so I hope a notebook that holds everything will help. I always take a notebook or clipboard (there’s a visual) and I or my husband take notes. It’s just impossible to remember what every Dr says and I find when they see you taking notes they generally slow down a bit. I also never leave without getting a business card for every Dr and line them up on my printer and take a copy. Anytime we have to see a new Dr I just hand them a copy along with a printed copy of each med and dose. I hope you don’t mind my taking up time on your blog for passing this along.

I love all the pictures & ideas Susette and Linda sent to you – thanks for sharing.
Wishing you a speedy recovery ~

    1. Hi Leigh,
What a great idea you are doing with the notebook. My hubby does the same thing with a planner he has. He writes down the appointment dates, what was discussed, medicines prescribed, test results, etc. It is much easier to find things and have them on hand when you go to the dr. He usually takes it with him when he has an important appointment.
When we had to see the specialist in St Louis, the doctor wanted to know my hubby’s past history from his point of view. We had spent days before going, organizing and consolidating all his notes and I typed it out very briefly, but in order from 2013 up to the present. We handed the doctor this one sheet of paper and he was AMAZED. He commented 2 more times about how great it was and how much time it saved.
      Thank you Leigh,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Good Morning Jeanne,
What a dreadful thing to have happen while you were already feeling awful. I’ve never heard that taking something as innocent as an antibiotic could incapacitate a person… very scary stuff! I’m happy to hear you are finally on the road to recovery!
Thanks for sharing Susette’s and Linda’s photos. It’s always fun to see completed projects and I enjoy getting a peek at how others display their dolls. Love it… so adorable.
Feeling rather bad about Marilyn’s weather forecast. We get a fair amount of the white stuff here in Western New York. Yuck! I guess I’m not ready for it just yet. lol
Hope everyone has a Happy Monday
    Hugs
    Ingrid

    1. Hi Ingrid,
It WAS dreadful and I never want to feel that way again. I made my bed this morning…first time in 4 days, and even pushed the dust mop around on my new floors.
I’m glad you enjoyed the pictures today. It’s always fun to see something someone has made or set up.
I don’t think I’d do very well in a place that got a lot of snow. I’m not particularly fond of wearing coats all the time. :o)
      Thank you, Ingrid,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. I hope they did not put you on Cipro. That’s what they’re normally prescribing nowadays for UTI’s but sweet friend, I feel I’d be doing you a terrible disservice if I didn’t tell you to AVOID CIPRO AT ALL COSTS!! Do a little research when you can. A good place to start is http://www.ciproispoison.com Cipro is a fluoroquinolone and it can be deadly. There are others as well…Avelox and Levaquin are 2 that I know of. Please read about all the horrible things Cipro has done to people and inform as many as you can! Love and blessings

    1. Hi Bobi,
Thanks for informing me and the readers on my blog…so thankful for all of you. Mine was Macrobid….and the new one is a generic of Bactrum. Its in the Sulfa family of drugs…not a Nitro drug.
I will remember your comments and spread the word…
      Thank you, Bobi,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Hi Jeanne, so sorry you have not been feeling good. UTI’s are horrid!
Since the two surgeries I’ve had this summer, I’ve had that metal taste in my mouth as well and my taste buds are off all the time. It should go away at some point. I hope you get to feeling better and back to your strong self!!

Thanks for sharing Linda and Suzette’s pictures. It’s fun seeing everyone’s dolls. Linda’s fall girls is too cute.

    Feel better!

    1. HI Paula,
That metallic taste in your mouth is pretty annoying isn’t it. I was so sick on Friday and my hubby came into the bedroom and asked me if I needed anything. I said, “I think I want a piece of sausage pizza from Casey’s.” He said, “WHAT? That greasy pizza?” He didn’t do it, but I think it was because the taste in my mouth was so awful, I just wanted something that tasted good and I thought I would be able to taste the pizza…. Oh well…
I hope you lose that sensation soon…it’s nasty!
I’m glad you enjoyed the pictures today.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Running late tonight and I have to get dinner started.
So glad you’re on the mend, Jeanne. I’ve only had one back in college that landed me in the ER. Too much studying and not enough liquid was the culprit.
Susette, your girls look so sweet in their night clothes for their slumber party. Looking forward to seeing who got Samantha. She will forever hold a special place because without her I know I would have never gotten Felicity or my other three.
Aww, Linda, I love your ’40’s girls in their pumpkin patch. My daughter has a Radio Flyer red wagon just like yours. that she used to use with her dolls.

    1. HI Laura,
Sometimes I think the best thing about my blog is seeing other people’s pictures and then it reminding us of something from our past or gives us hope that we might some day have one!
I”m glad you enjoyed seeing the pictures today… I did too…
It’s good to be getting better… I’m not one for laying in bed.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. Charlotte Trayer

Hi, Jeanne, so glad you are feeling better!!

NOW….what you need to do is make sure this particular allergy is added to All your medical records. It’s very important that any and all doctors you have know about it. You might even add it to your ID card that you carry in your purse, just in case. (I have several allergies, including things like Sulfa and Penicillin, so I wear a Medic Alert pendant all the time.)

I did enjoy all the pictures, and thanks to all the gals who shared them with you!! One of my AGs and I will be meeting my friend and her AG at the local AG Place on Halloween; we’ll shop a bit, then have lunch in the food court, and watch all the cute little ones trick or treating! Last year we had lunch in the AG Place Bistro, but they aren’t open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for lunch, hence the food court idea.

And….someone new will be coming to live at my house soon!! I had an email from Magalie the other day!! 😀
