~ Spring Splendor ~ American Girl Civil War/Colonial? doll dress…

I wasn’t going to do another post about the “green dress” but decided I would. I told you in yesterday’s post (HERE) that I was going to try and add some sleeves to the dress to see if I couldn’t make it look more Colonial. I decided, however, to go for the bonnet first and complete the Civil War look. That only left me with a few scraps…literally.

I just couldn’t get the sleeves to work out. I thought I could run an elastic edge to the sleeve cap, but it still left a gap at the front edge. They just weren’t going to work. For someone who’s not into being “terribly Colonial authentic” you may find this dress with the straw hat works for you.

The straw hat turned out nicely and I think Rebecca wears it very well.

By using the tiniest piece of the fabric and some of the lace that Kathie (a subscriber) sent to me, I think the bonnet turned out darling.

I added another ruffle to the crinoline to make it hold the dress out even farther than I had it yesterday. I like it much better.

The evening gloves add a bit of elegance to the dress and doesn’t make the sleeveless dress show so much “skin.”

So…I’ve got it listed on Ebay and you can find it by clicking on the picture at the right side bar or by clicking this link..(HERE)

Thank you for all the compliments you’ve given me already, but I hope you like it even better now that it’s completed.

See you tomorrow,

    1. Thank you Jeannie,
Rebecca likes it too! She’s not going to want to give this one up!

  1. Wow, Jeannie B., you beat me to it!!

I too, think the whole ensemble is gorgeous! What a difference in the added trimmings to the straw hat make! The Civil War hat is adorable too, and the whole ensemble just says “Spring” to me! With this weather we are having, it can’t come soon enough!

    1. HI LInda,
Thanks very much for the sweet compliments on Rebecca’s dress. It was fun decorating a straw hat again. It’s been a while since I did one.
I agree with you about the weather… Come Spring Come!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. How clever and resourceful you are! Great to have the choice of hats. Did you make the flower medallions on the hats? What a nice collection of lace trims you use. Agreed: Gorgeous!

    1. Hi Susette,
Thank you Susette for your kind words about Rebecca’s dress. I couldn’t decide which hat to use so I just included both! That way the winner can decide what to do with them.
No, I didn’t make the medallions on the hat…it’s a trim I have.
      Thanks again,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. I guess I understand why you were trying to add sleeves, Jeanne, but it’s just perfect as it is!!
Twenty years or more ago I made a doll, cloth doll with over clay face, made her a bonnet and a hat to match her dress, took her to a doll show as “Laura, Which hat shall I wear?” I could have sold three of her in the first fifteen minutes of the show. Of course, I had had to put a price on her and couldn’t run an auction at the show. 🙁 I wish for you multiple buyers that just HAVE to have that outfit!

    1. Hi Jevne,
I thought if I could make a little detachable sleeve it would definitely work for a Colonial dress, but it didn’t work out.
I’ve done the same thing, Jevne… listed something as a One of a Kind and sure enough, that was the one 6 people begged me for… Oh well…
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. You pulled it all together, Jeanne and it is even prettier than I thought before it was finished! The bonnet and long gloves are PERFECT and how wonderful to have a hat for the bright sun! (It’s got to be shining and warm somewhere.) Rebecca looks beautiful and she is wearing the perfect color for this time of year. Hope you have an exciting auction!

    1. Hi Cindy,
I wish the sun was shining HERE today! We got an ice storm last night and everything is covered in ice drippings. It looks beautiful but I’m not going anywhere!
Thanks for your nice comments about Rebecca’s dress.
      Blessings, Jeanne

    1. Thank you Christine,
Rebecca wears it now, but she doesn’t know…for only a short time!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Rebecca’s dress is just beautiful, I especially love her straw hat. The bonnet and gloves are very pretty also. Green is the perfect color for her.

    1. Thank you Regina,
I’ll tell Rebecca you like it! I’m sure she’ll smile!
      Have a wonderful weekend!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. I’d say you did a great job figuring out how to use that little piece for a bonnet…you made the most of that trim …so sweet! Love her hats!
I’m staying in too..have to do a mock up of a tiny little coat then have to make 50 more Yikes!

    1. Thank you Carolyn,
I’m glad you liked Rebecca’s dress…too bad she has to give it up…
      I appreciate your compliments…
      Blessings, Jeanne
