Spotlight on American Girl Felicity…

Way back in 2006 I began selling my “Fashions from Yesteryear” on Ebay. I had one American Girl doll… Felicity, and she got all the attention! I concentrated hard on making something new for her every week. She was a good little model, and even with her wonky eye, she helped me get started on this path I’m continuing on to this day. She was my starter doll for a long time and I had lots of pictures of those first dresses, but apparently they have mostly been deleted. I’ve searched and can’t find them anywhere. I still have my notebooks where I wrote down all the info about the sales…who won the dress, how much it sold for, what pieces were included in the sale, etc. It’s fun to look back at how I did things then. I no longer have Felicity… I decided one Colonial doll was enough and when I found my Elizabeth, she was so pretty, she won out for the solo Colonial spot.

I thought I would give Felicity some due recognition and let you see some of my early work… The first 3 dresses are the oldest ones that I could find. They were called White Ruffles, Radiant in Red and Lovely in Lavender. I hope you enjoy seeing what my Felicity wore back in 2006 and 2007.

  1. My favorite dress is the paisley blue, ruffles at neckline
and the only one with Rebecca’s pretty jewelry.
    Rita

    1. Hi Rita,
Yes, I liked that paisley blue one very much too. I think I was just starting to get better at making them more Colonial looking. And you’re right… many of these certainly could have used Rebecca’s touch with a pretty necklace!

  2. Oops, there is one more doll with jewelry.
The last one is beautiful, I hope it was a wedding dress.

    1. Hi Rita,
I can’t remember if the lady was going to use it as a wedding dress or not, but it sure was pretty in person… an embroidered silk dupioni in ivory.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Your dresses are all so pretty on Felicity, Jeanne. My favorite is the last one. That fabric is gorgeous. Another great thing about sewing for the AG’s is that these types of fabrics are the right weight, not too heavy. Have a good day!

    1. HI Cindy,
Thanks for your compliments on Felicity’s dress. That last one was very special… it’s made from an embroidered silk dupioni and was a special surprise gift to someone from their best friend. It was a very fun “sneaky” project to work on.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. All of your AG dresses are beautiful. I think my favorite is the next to last photo. The colors of that dress looks so pretty with Felicity’s hair, and she is wearing a straw hat.

    1. Thanks Regina,
She does look pretty in those colors, doesn’t she?
Thanks so much for taking a peek, Regina.

  5. Jeanne,

Goodness, what a beautiful grouping of clothes for Felicity! I too, have Felicity, and am pretty much stuck with trying to find new outfits for her, as AG doesn’t make any for her, or even have her anymore! I do really love that second to last dress, the red and gold one, but think maybe something more on the bodice? Tiny red buttons maybe?
That 4th dress is also beautiful! Oh gosh, that last one too!
Well, I could go on all day here, so will sign off!

    1. Hi Linda,
Well, it appears I need to get busy on some Felicity dresses… it seems everyone would like to see something new from me.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Jeanne, you should be selling patterns. You are so creative. All of the dresses are so beautiful, I think my favorite is the purple or maybe the white, no the blue. hehe, they are all so nice. You are so talented.
    Judi

    1. Hi Judi,
Thanks for your votes of confidence on Felicity’s dresses. I enjoy the Colonial era and need to get busy making some new things for Felicity.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. I love the dresses on Felicity, especially the last one. I actually started watching your auctions for dresses for my German Felicity with the lovely red eyelashes. I was so sad when they retired her. I have all her available Pleasant Company outfits and am always on the lookout for clothes to complement her gorgeous red hair and green eyes.
The things you sew so are beautiful. I loved the blue Regency gown you made for Elizabeth and the Civil War black and white one your Eden doll just modeled.

    1. Thanks so much Laura,
Felicity was truly a one of a kind doll, so very pretty and unique in every way. It’s wonderful that you have all her Pleasant Company dresses for your collection.
I’m working on another Regency dress this evening, but I think I should make something for Felicity soon.
      Blessings, Jeanne
