“Southern Charm” for Addy is finally revealed!

Thanks for all your fun answers to my question for the Necklace Giveaway. I enjoyed reading everyone’s answers.

If I don’t let you know who the winner of the Necklace GIVEAWAY is first thing, you might not read the rest of the post; especially if you are the winner! I put everyone’s name on a piece of paper and shuffled them upside down.

Then I drew out a name… the winner of one of the necklaces is Paula!!

You can comment below and let me know which necklace you like or you can hit the “contact me” tab at the top and email me with your choice… Congratulations on winning! I hope your doll loves her new necklace!

Now, let me just celebrate for a moment the fact that I FINALLY have Addy’s dress listed on Ebay. I checked back in my notebook and I first mentioned “Southern Charm” on May 8th! MAY 8TH! That was 16 days ago!!! Sorry for the delay in getting it listed but I guess there were more interruptions in my life than I realized! I took the dress into my hubby’s office to show him and he guessed right away that it was a Civil War dress! That’s good! Then he said it was really pretty and might be his favorite one! My face smiled and so did my heart!!!

If you want to see her dress, you can click the picture at the right side bar or you click HERE and it will take you directly to the auction on Ebay.

The two things you hadn’t seen are the necklace that Rebecca made and the fan I decided on this morning. Rebecca’s necklace is a pretty glass necklace that picks up the colors of the dress fabric.

I tried my very best to use the battenburg umbrella that was sent to me, but I couldn’t for the life of me, figure out who to get it suspended up and behind Addy’s shoulder. I’m going to have to have my hubby build me a stand I think. That way I can drop it in the stand like an umbrella you’d see at a Farmer’s Market booth. Then Addy could be standing under the umbrella to stay out of the sun. Maybe by the time I get around to Addy’s turn again for a dress, I’ll have it figured out.

When that idea was exhausted, I turned to something I think Joy mentioned, a fan… I’ve made a few fans before and decided that’s what Addy’s accessory would be. I thought it went along pretty well with my outdoor wedding story. I took a length of lace and ran some machine basting stitches along the bottom edge and the top edge to hold it fairly even. Then I pulled it up at the bottom as tight as it would go, trimmed off the small end of it, zig zagged it in place, added the gold filigree piece, bent it to the back side and then stitched it in place with the rose beads. I did a little hand work to make it lie flat and turned under the ends. Then I added a bow and it was done! It slips under her hand and easily stays in place because her skirt is full enough to hold it in place.

Here are a couple pictures of Addy to hold you over until you click that link… :o)

Well, that’s the end of Southern Charm… at least from my end… now it’s up to someone else…

I wonder who will be next?????

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Congratulations to Paula! What a nice giveaway.
And congratulations to Jeanne! Southern Charm is beautiful and the fan is a perfect touch and perfectly charming. Addy will be sorry to lose this outfit, but someone else will be very happy to have it.
Now you’ve asked my favorite question — Who’s next? Summer is almost here — at least I don’t think we’ll be getting any more snow. Who needs a lovely June dress? What is your most beautiful light summer fabric and whom does it suit best? Is it time for an Effner dress? You could save the 4th of July outfit for Felicity.
You’ll figure it out, and we’ll all love seeing it come together.

    1. Hi Marilyn,
I am SO glad to have this dress listed… finally! There weren’t any problems with making it, it just took longer than some and then coupled with all my interruptions, it didn’t get done like some of my other ones do!
I’m still (unbelievably…) waiting on my newest Little Darling… it will be 3 years and one month tomorrow…I’m not sure what the problem is… maybe soon. I was hoping to make the next dress for my new Effner sweetie, but I don’t think that’s going to happen!

I need to look at my fabrics and see what grabs me next… you’re right…what’s my most beautiful light summery fabric? I’ll have to go look…
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Love, love, LOVE the fan! I agree with your hubby that this dress is my favorite Addy dress. Of course, I am a lace junkie and all the different laces go so well together. Thank you so much for sharing your creation and creativity!

    Donna

    1. HI Donna,
I’m so glad you like Addy’s new dress… she certainly looks pretty standing on my cutting table in all her lacy finery! This was a dream to put together and I loved all the elements of it! It just took a little longer than most to get on Ebay!
It’s MY pleasure to share my sewing with you!
      Blessings, Jeanne

    Take care.

  5. A big congrats to Paula and to Jeanne too for completing/listing another fabulous creation. Love the fan. Just looks great with the outfit. And the necklace, wow!
As to the weather report, yesterday sunny and 80. Today and the rest of the week maybe 69 and cloudy. Was just enjoying the warm weather. No snow forecast in the coming year. 🙂

    1. HI Joy,
Yes, a big congrats to Paula on the necklace and and even BIGGER congrats to ME for FINALLY having this dress finished and ready to share! My goodness, it took me a long time!

It’s in the upper 60’s here today and is very nice today… I had my windows down driving over to my mom’s and it felt wonderful! No snow forecast here till winter either… :o) YAY!
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Congratulations to Paula, lucky you! Oh my goodness, how very sweet that lace fan is, Jeanne! You certainly would be able to sell more than a few if you sold the fans alone, provided you had enough of those gold filigree pieces. I just love it!

Addy looks just perfect in that outfit! What a beautiful little “Southern Belle”! I love everything about it and am so impressed with the way the whole outfit looks together, and that beautiful necklace just adds the perfect touch! Even though it took somewhat longer to finish, it was totally worth it!

    1. HI Linda,
Before I forget, I changed your email address on my subscribers list… it should come to you tomorrow… let me know if it doesn’t…
I’m glad you like Addy’s new fan…she does too… :o) She is a sweet little Southern Belle, isn’t she? I checked my notebook and she hadn’t modeled since last August… isn’t that awful of me… I think Rebecca got too much Civil War modeling time!
Thanks for your sweet compliments on the dress…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. I always love your dresses but then day by day all the accessories get added and I am just blown away! This one is just lovely..everything from the dress to the hat, the necklace and Oh My….that fan is beautiful!
Congratulations Paula…how are you going to decide???

    1. Thank you so much Katie,
Your compliments are making me blush! I’m glad you like her dress…now that it’s ALL finished! It was really a fun one to make…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. I’m so excited to have won the necklace contest!! Wow!! Oh my gosh, which necklace… they are all so beautiful!!

Addy’s gown is just beautiful in every way. I think this may be my favorite outfit ever. Her fan and her hairpiece are perfect and add to overall elegance of this gorgeous gown. Addy will not like giving this gown.

    1. Thank you Paula,
Congratulations on winning the necklace of your choice… just let me know which one you choose and I’ll get it right out to you…
I’m so glad everyone likes Addy’s dress…that really makes my heart sing! It’s fun to put everything together and have it all come out just the way you wanted it too…
I think you’re right… Addy might put up a fight to keep this one… :o)
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. Wow! I love the fan. Thanks for describing how it is made. Is the metal piece a jewelry fitting? George certainly has good taste and this may be my favorite for an American Girl that you’ve ever made. So FANcy! And thanks for the tip on the sleeves. Nice necklace for Paula, lucky lady.

    1. HI Susette,
Glad to see everyone liked the “fan” idea… the metal piece was something I found at Hobby Lobby… there is a whole section in the jewelry department of this coppery/antique brass looking stuff that can be used for all kinds of projects. I just happened to have this one and it called my name that it would work! :o) If you get one, let me see what you do with it…
Sorry, the lace umbrella you sent me didn’t work out for this dress, but I’m determined to use it sometime for a dress… :o)
      Thanks Susette,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. Congratulations to Paula on winning the necklace.
Addy “Southern Charm” is just beautiful. I’m sure she was happy to get to model it a little longer than usual. The fabric choice turned out to be outstanding for Addy. I love the way the top layer of the skirt is held up with little bows. Rebecca’s necklace goes perfectly with the dress. The fan is exquisite.
Where on earth did you find that little filigree piece?? I think I may have seen them at JoAnn’s, but don’t recall.
It is the perfect accessory for a wedding and will keep Addy’s nice and cool.
As to who is next, I think it just may be Miss Felicity’s turn again 🙂

    1. HI Laura,
Thank you so much for your kind comments on Addy’s dress set. I really enjoyed making this one and it was so nice to not have any problems… except for the “time” thing!
I was just telling Susette, the filigree piece came from the jewelry section at Hobby Lobby. There are a whole bunch of different pieces that can be used for various projects…

I just had a feeling, you’d be pulling for a dress for Felicity… I’ll have to see what fabrics grab me and see who is “Jeanne’s Next Top Model!”
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  11. First of all, congratulations to Paula for winning the giveaway. And as for Addy’s new ensemble, it is so very pretty. I love the fan and the headpiece. I think the colors in the necklace tie everything together so well.

    1. Hi Carolyn,
Thank you for your sweet compliments on Addy’s dress. I think I might miss this one as much as Addy.
Now it’s time to think about the next one…
      Thanks Carolyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne
