Sorry, but one last post about Scruffy…

I can’t believe it’s been one month today that Scruffy died. It doesn’t seem possible that it’s been that long. My hubby is still missing his little buddy terribly. As you recall, I did a post a while back featuring a picture that our son drew and gave to my hubby as a belated birthday gift. You can see his wonderful drawing HERE.
It was a beautiful gesture and my husband was very blessed by his thoughtfulness.

Well, for Easter, our daughter wanted to do something special for her dad and did she ever! She found a frame online that had spaces for 6 pictures of your pet along with a very touching poem in the center. She rounded up all the pictures she could find of Scruffy and picked out the 6 that she thought would mean the most to her dad. Here is what she came up with…

If you click on the pictures they will enlarge somewhat.

[[The bottom picture on the left shows 2 Schnauzers… yes, we used to have a female too. She was named Ellie but we always called her Puppy.
The middle picture on the right side isn’t very good, but my hubby knew immediately what it was. Scruffy always did this little thing right after dinner where he would go find a sock…(anyone’s sock) that was left on the floor. He’d trot past the table with the sock in his mouth and jump up on the couch, pretending like he was burying the sock. He would scratch on the couch cover and whimper until my husband got up and paid some attention to him. He did this every-single-night…]]

When Rebecca gave it to her dad Easter night, she was tearing up before he even opened it. Once it was out of the box, he just looked at all the pictures and then he decided to read the poem outloud… BIG MISTAKE… he didn’t even make it through the first line.

The three of us sat around the table crying and telling stories of Scruffy for a good half hour or so. It must have been therapeutic because once we all had a good cry we felt better…still sad, but better. Sometimes he drove me crazy, with his barking and his smudges on the windows, his toys everywhere, but I can honestly say, I’d bring him back in a heartbeat because of my hubby’s longing to see him again.

It’s been on the couch “Memorial” since Easter…

…but I think today I’ll hang them up on a wall in the living room. I know my hubby would never ask to do that, but I think he’ll be pleased when he comes home and finds them hung up.

I know this isn’t a doll related post, but I wanted to share what Rebecca did to bless her dad. My hubby was very touched by both gifts from our children…me too! Thank you kids!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

The picture frame collage was a wonderful gift from Rebecca. There is no doubt that this gesture will be treasured by your husband. It also will help him with the grief process as the weeks pass. Clearly the tears that were shed by everyone were ones of loving your sweet doggy so very much. You family has many wonderful memories of your dear Scruffy.

    1. HI Jeannie,
I didn’t even know anything like this frame existed…but it sure is perfect! I got the pictures hung up and they look pretty nice up on the wall together.
      Yes, we do have memories….
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. So sweet…made me cry. I lost my dear Deirdra dog several months ago and I still miss her so much. I had her for 17 years.

Give your hubby a hug for me and tell him I understand and am glad he has such a loving family.

    1. Hi Jane,
I’m so sorry for your loss of Deirdra a few months ago. 17 years is a long time to have someone around and then them just vanish.
I will give my hubby a hug and tell him another dog lover feels his pain…
      Thanks so much Jane,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Jeanne, when I checked my email this morning there was no email from you! I thought it might have been too early, but I kept checking until right before church, still no email! I was getting kind of worried and didn’t know what to think, but I just now found you did have your daily blog after all! What a touching blog today, I am sniffling as I read it, and that poem is just so sweet! Both of your children are just wonderful!
By the way, Scruffy’s toys look in great shape compared to my Sophie’s toys! She clawed and bit the daylights out of them, plus never let me clean them up! So when she went to kitty heaven, there was no little pile of pretty toy son the couch to remind me of her. I did keep her catnip pillow, but that too was just a complete rag with the stuffing coming out all over! Out it went after a year, but I still have my memories.

    1. HI Linda,
The reason there was no post was….I FORGOT TO PUBLISH IT! I had it all done and saved as a draft last night and “thought” I had it scheduled for 2am this morning, but I woke up this morning, myself, and saw no post and jumped on it as fast as I could… sorry to worry you.

Isn’t that just the sweetest poem? I did hang it up in the living room and it looks fine in there. Scruffy liked to just sling his toys around in his mouth, sort of like he was killing them, I guess, but he didn’t really chew on them.
Yes, everyone who’s had a pet in the past has those nice memories at least.
I hope you’re having a nice day Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. What sweet children you have that have given their Dad such treasured gifts of remembrance of his special little friend. Every time you post about him missing Scruffy I tear up…I know how much my little dogs mean to me.
    hugs,
    Regina

    1. Thanks so much Regina,
I do have sweet children who love their dad very much. The gifts they gave him will be treasures to him. I think only people who have had the loss of a dear pet can understand really what someone else is feeling. I’m sorry for the loss you’ve had as well.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Well, I’m crying! That message for Scruffy and your husband is just beautiful. I am a big animal lover and sometimes it is hard for me to “know” the things I do about cruel animal treatment in this world. It does my heart good to hear stories of love between man and animals.
My heart belongs to Schatton, Tiffany, (our Doberlady’s) Bumper, (sweetest mutt ever,) Savannah and Breeze, (our most loving and sweet rescued Greyhounds)- I will see them again, but in the meantime, I am taking care of our needy little poodle, Honey.
Thank you for sharing this in today’s blog. Sending hugs to you all for loving your little guy. The sock story is just precious.

  6. HI Paula,
I let my hubby read my post just now and noticed you had a note at the bottom. We both read the post together and he wanted to read what everyone said. Now WE are both crying too!
Thanks for being one of those who love the little animals in your care.
    Blessings, Jeanne
