Something to Show:
This afternoon I received a text from Alba (my Columbian friend), asking how to put the hooks on the back on pinch pleated drapes. A new Columbian family has moved here and they are trying to get their apartment set up, just like Alba and Edgar and Sara did 3 years ago. Well, a few texts went back and forth and I sent her some pictures of the way it was supposed to work, but we weren’t getting anywhere, so I decided to go over there. My hubby said he needed to finish fixing a drawer on a dresser they had been given, so he decided to go with me.
When we got to the new couple’s apartment, Alba gave me a big hug and told them “the expert was here!” Well, I’m definitely not an expert when it comes to pinch pleated drapes, but I thought I might be able to help. These were kind of strange pinch pleated drapes. Usually the hooks go right between the seams on the back side and the little hook sticks out and you hang it on the traverse rod. Well, the pinch part was stitched shut… I’d never seen anything like this… so I just had to poke the hooks into the lining on the back side and try to keep them even as I put them all in. Well, long story short, it worked fine and this new couple, Juan Pablo and Viviano now have some privacy.
They wanted us to sit down and have a cup of Columbian hot chocolate, which we did, and got to meet this new family a little better. They are really sweet, but they have lots to do to get their apartment all finished.
While we were drinking they opened up a bag on the table and gave us some gifts… I received a little Columbian doll, called a Guambianos, and George was given a little cowboy hat. Then, they gave us the rest of the bag… filled with Columbian candy, some caramely like fudge pieces and something with Leche in the ingredients, so you know THAT has to be good.
Something New:
Because we went over to help them, I didn’t get as much done on what was going to be my full post, but I’ll just show these 2 pictures and get your minds thinking… I’m not finished yet, and these pictures might not be 100% “correct,” but I wanted you to see what I’m working on. There’s going to be something new to share in a few days…and you’ll find out soon… :o)

Good morning, Jeanne! What a lovely way to start the week, a story about you and George helping! I’m so glad you got it figured out, that must have been a surprise to see that everything was stitched shut! Well, no matter, the expert WAS there! The hot chocolate and candy sound yummy and the little doll and hat are cute! They look like they might be key chains, and maybe Ten Ping would want the little doll for herself!
I immediately thought—she’s making sisters outfits again, when I saw the three different samples of hats and material! It almost looks like a quilt laid out with three hats on top! They look very “Little House on the Prairie” to me! Maybe 3 little girls going off to Sunday School? I guess we have to wait and see!

I’ve never seen pinch pleated drapes that were fully lined all in the back. There was something strange about them, but they look fine now…from the front…at least.

I agree with Linda, these look like a set of sisters’ outfits, just right for a transitional time. Whether you are ready for fall or clinging to summer, there’s something in these fabrics for you. I’m glad it’s Monday — we won’t be skipping a day before we can see some progress. Now all you need is 3 sewing machines, each set up with different thread.
Someone new from Colombia. This should be fun. You’ve enjoyed Sara’s family so much. Every family is a new adventure, and I’m sure being here is also an adventure for them.
Today is the day I get to try making Linda’s pickles. It looks like a nice way to spend a little time between moving the sprinklers. It’s nice to know I can’t burn anything accidentally since it’s a no cook recipe. The recipe says 24 hours in the fridge, but I was told longer is better. Wish me luck.

Ok….. if these fabrics and hats are for “sisters” I want them to be for the American Girl
Doll! I do not have the awesome honor of having one of your incredible creations in my dolly closet. Time to change that. I simply MUST have one; only problem is to be the bidder with the highest bid to win it. My vote is for the blue hat and fabrics, both are very lovely. Maybe you might be using the combination of both, now that is an idea with a larger hem and alot of detail at the waist and sleeves with some binding.
PLEASE let this next project be for the AG Doll. You and your husband live your lives serving others and I have no doubt that God will bless you in countless ways. These people are blessed to have you in their lives.

Well, these 3 little hats fit the Effner Little Darling dolls, so they are a bit small for rhe American Girl dolls…but if you keep watching…. :o)

I wonder if those drapes with the sewed in pinches were designed for clip on hoops which then hang on a pole rod? Just a guess.
Know you have the LD hat mold, so I’m guessing that there will be some lovely outfits for an adorable group of sweet Little Darlings? Can’t wait to see the outcome for whatever dollies.
An email from a Houston friend last night said, “Water was coming inside the house.” Yesterday it was only up to their lawn and receding. They flooded once many years ago, so this not a usual occurance. From news reports, sounds like they are letting out some reservoirs to prevent even more flooding, but it isn’t going to be pretty the next few days. Simply nowhere for the water to go. My thoughts are with the Houston and area people.

The pinch pleated drapes may have been intended for clips, but the apartments where they live have traverse rods so we had to made them work…and they did…
Well, you guessed right that those are Little Darling sized hats…. :o)
We got a similar text from someone in Houston…they had invited their neighbors to go up in their second floor area of their house. It sounded pretty scary to us…
