Some Sunday Sewing Snippets…

First of all I just wanted to thank you all for the wonderful comments and chatter that went on yesterday over the post about the favorite dresses we remembered from our childhood. If you missed that post, and would like to read it… you can find it HERE. I’ll have to go through my mom’s pictures again and we’ll do something like this again. I really enjoyed reading what you all said.

I also wanted to let you know I’ve added an “Archives” section on the right side bar. If you happened to want to know what I wrote about in December of 2014 or perhaps wanted to see what I was talking about in February 2015, you can just click on the pull down menu and find the month you are interested in. If you wanted to start at the beginning of my blog and read forward it’s an easier way to keep track of where you are… Just wanted to make mention of it in case you hadn’t seen it.

Okay..so who’s next? It’s Rebecca and she’s going to be my Regency girl this time. I had Elizabeth standing on the table but she didn’t look as good in this purple print as Rebecca did, so poor Elizabeth got put back on the shelf… I got the bodice constructed and the sleeves set in. I still have a ways to go, but thought I’d show you what I accomplished so far.

I made a Regency dress out of the blue print of this fabric and it turned out so pretty. I’m going to try and make a similar dress in the purple. I like the ivory rayon lace across the bodice…

CIMG0135

I took a piece of the fabric and draped it around Rebecca’s body to give you an idea of what it might look like… This is one of those “imagination” times again…

CIMG0138

I think Rebecca will do just fine as my Regency girl… I should maybe try it on Eden too…she’s got the black hair and it might look even more stunning on her…

Someone else has been doing some sewing too. I received a sweet email from MaryC who received a new little Gigi in the mail. She’s one of Ten Ping’s friends and Mary made her first outfit for Gigi… I wanted to brag on her because sewing for these tiny little dolls is no small feat…

Mary also made a tiny little doll for Gigi using a pattern by Wren Feathers…

Keep it up Mary… Gigi looks adorable in her kimono and her doll is so sweet!

Well, it’s almost 1 a.m. again… I’m not doing too well on getting to bed earlier… :o)

Have a wonderful Sunday!
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Gigi is just as cute as Ten Ping. I didn’t know anyone was. Congratulations to Mary for getting her and for her cute new outfit and doll. Thanks, Jeanne, for showing this off.
You are right about the new Regency dress. I love the way the sleeves puff, and the lace on the bodice is very nice with the scallops across the top. Will the skirt have a train, or will this be one of the ankle length ones, with pantalettes?
The top looks uneven, but it’s just that the right side (in the photo) needs to be pulled down to match the other side, I think. The part that goes over the shoulder looks loose on that side. Rebecca looks lovely in this, but I’m looking forward to seeing how it looks on Eden. I wouldn’t half mind seeing it on Elizabeth as well.
Here it’s snowing in big soft flakes. It has been snowing all day and by morning we should have a very white world. At least we are not having an earthquake, and I’m very grateful.

    1. HI Marilyn,
I think Gigi is so sweet in her new dress….I just HAD to show everyone what Mary made.

Yes, this Regency dress will have a train and the lace will go down the fronts sort of like I have them pinned. Yes, the sides are even it’s just sort of resting on her body right now..and I might not have gotten it pinned straight in the back… making the top shoulder pull up.

I just might have to try it on Eden and Elizabeth to see if I picked the right model… I can always change it up until the time when I take pictures for the listing…

Snow… you are a much better sport than I am… and yes, being grateful that it’s not an earthquake is certainly a good thing…
I hope it’s at least pretty. You’re probably used to this by now…so it’s part of what happens… Hope you’re careful if you have to get out…
      Blessings, Jeanne

We had 11″ of snow this morning, but the snow on the street has nearly melted and the sidewalks were easy to shovel — they were the last things to be snowcovered. The man who shovels will be so disappointed — this snow was nearly self-cleaning. According to the news, the storm gave us a month’s worth of precipitation in 2 days.

I hope you have some sewing time today — the new dress is going to be beautiful. I think I have the blue one you mentioned, or at least a similar one, and it’s beautiful.

  2. No snow here. Nice spring day so far. Need to get out and pull more weeds.
Know it is to be a Regency dress, but it reminds me of the vintage Hawaiian dresses. Love the color and lace. Hope your Sunday treats you well.

    1. HI Joy,
It’s a wonderful Spring day here too…I love days like this! I think my hubby is going to till up a small area to plant his tomatoes… not such a big area this year… he said he doesn’t have time…
Hopefully when I’m done with the dress it will look more Regency than Hawaiian…
Thanks so much for your comments Joy,

  3. Very pretty and springlike, Jeanne! I do love the color of purple in the spring, so this fits the bill! The beautiful lace shows up so well too, and I can’t wait to see how it all comes together. Whoever wears it should have a fancy “updo” for sure with some sort of elaborate hair accessory. This outfit should work for a number of dolls, but not for Molly!!! 🙂

Gigi is quite the fashion plate, Mary! I tip my hat off to you for being able to sew those teensy weensy clothes! And Jeanne too! That’s my main beef against sewing doll clothes!

No snow here, just sunny skies and almost 80 degrees!

    1. Thank you Linda,
It will hopefully come together pretty quickly and then I’ll have to decide who gets to model it for Ebay…
I’m sure an “updo” is in store for the model of it and of course, a fancy hair accessory!

Yes, Mary did a nice job on making Gigi’s sweet dress and doll set, and I told her it just takes a little practice and before long, she won’t even realize Gigi is so small…
Did you get the snaps sewn on Felicity’s dress, Linda?
Thanks so much… we’ve got the same weather too… Loving it!
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. Yes, I did get the snaps on, and I will send you a picture of the dress. It’s hard to get a good one, since the dress is brown, and details don”t show up very well—-which may be a good thing after all!

  4. You know me and purple ….not my fav…but it looks adorable on Rebecca and what could be more ‘regency’ than purple! Love, love the way you get your puff sleeves so perfect!
Seems all I get to work on is white since most of the dolls I fix and dress are antique and their dresses are made from antique lace or eyelet. They do look so sweet and innocent in white though? Enjoy your Sunday !

    1. HI Kathie,
Thanks for the compliments on my doll sleeves. It’s not hard… just make them full and keep your gathers evenly spaced..
I told you to put the name of your doll hospital/fixer upper webpage on your comments.. I don’t mind at all. There might be someone here who needs a doll repaired…
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Well, I’m ”behind” in my reading! Good thing I don’t ‘skip a day here or there’… I would have missed thanking you for showing my Gigi. I finished another outfit for her yesterday. I’m ‘hooked’ on her – at least for a while. She keeps looking through my fabric stash and coming up with ‘ideas’! LOL!! Thanks to the compliments, everyone…!
(and, thanks for that ‘archives’ button I noticed! … I am curious, tho – I never get notifications of follow up email comments – even if I click the box…is that feature ‘active’?)
