Some Random Sunday Thoughts…

I thought I’d just share some random thoughts with you today…

I’m glad I’m not living out East… my sister sent me these pictures of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, this morning. They had 14″ and it was supposed to snow all day today, so I’m not sure how much they ended up with. Poor babies…

Nice job on the sidewalk Tom! :o)

Several of you asked about the hairstyle I gave my new Addy. It’s pretty simple, and I did it pretty quick so it’s not picture perfect, but has a nice look to it. I just french braided down both sides, held the ends with tiny clear rubber bands, and then lapped the ends over each other in the back using bobby pins. (If you don’t know how to french braid, you can just pull half of her hair out to the side and braid it like a normal braid, then when you pull it back it will have a little extra “poof” to it.) To do the back just lap the ends over each other…think of how it looks when you cross your arms…one over the top, one underneath… and just tuck the ends behind the braid. Her hair is pretty textured so it sort of holds in place pretty easily… Here are a few pictures…

You can add a pretty bow to the back with bobby pins or use sprigs of flowers and tuck them in her hair…

Have you been wondering which fabrics won out for Addy and Molly? Well, it was a landslide for the paisley print for Addy.

CIMG6418

I got the most comments for it from you and then several emails came wanting me to use it. The majority of you all seemed to like the paisley the best. (Sorry if you liked the red swirls one better.) I had already made a dress for my first Addy out of that fabric… here’s a look at that dress:

So, I guess we’ll see what I come up with the paisley… I’ve been wanting to use that fabric for quite some time now…

For Molly, it was a different outcome… I had 2 pink prints draped over Molly’s shoulders, but someone mentioned the blue Valentine print in the fabrics I picked out as a possible choice for her dress. Once someone suggested it as a dress, a few others joined in and it became the clear winner from the comments and the emails. I have made a few dresses for some other girls out of it and thought I’d show you how pretty is works up into a dress…it worked well for my 18″ Katie Effanbee as well as my 13″ Wren, by Helen Kish.

So, I’ll see what I can fashion it into for Molly…

And one more random thought. When you get my post each day, it comes as a single post, or email… and several of you have wondered how you could see other posts besides just that single post. It’s very easy… if you’ll click on the BLOG tab, near the top, just under the picture of the little girl sewing, it will bring you to the most current post. Then if you scroll down all of the previous posts will be underneath that one. They are stacked on top of each other… you just have to scroll down to find them…

CIMG0936

It’s a pretty long post, but once I explained all the “navigation” tips for my website… if you wanted to read that post, you can check it out by clicking HERE.

So those were my random Sunday thoughts… I hope you have a wonderful Sunday!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Good grief, all that snow! I’m glad too, that I don’t live in the east! We did have a HUGE snow in the 80’s, here in St. Louis, but they said it was only 11 inches because that’s what the “official” reading was at the airport! It actually came halfway up my thigh, and I’m tall! The whole city was shut down for a week or so. I don’t want that again! Your poor sister and hubby!

About Addy’s hair, it looks simple enough for even me to do, but did you put rubber bands on the ends of the braids to keep it from becoming undone? It looks very pretty, and I wonder if that is how they fix Josefina’s hair when it is braided with a ribbon. Have you ever done that?

I’m anxious to see the new dresses! I think we all picked the best fabrics for this time around. I do vaguely remember that heart pattern that you have used before, but I never saw Addy in the swirls pattern. Today it looks red and pink, but yesterday it was bright orange on my monitor!

Here’s hoping the snow here will melt soon!

    1. Hi Linda,
I can’t imagine having to deal with all that white stuff. It would be nice…for about 15 minutes and then it’d get old to me! Our big snow was in 1978…but I don’t remember how much we got… but lots!

Yes, I put those tiny little rubber bands on the ends of her braids..(I braided them down as far as I possibly could go.) My Josefina’s hair is a different texture than Addy’s…more slick and I can’t seem to do this with hers, but I might give her pictures a look and see if I can figure hers out…

The “swirls” fabric is definitely red…not so much orange in color, but not pink either… I’m figuring out Kit’s dress first…

      Thanks Linda,
It got up warm enough, that all our snow pretty much melted. YAY! I bet my sister wishes she could say the same…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. It sure is pretty when you look at the photos of the snow, but I’m with you… not here, please! It seems our big snowfalls tend to come mostly in February, so we’ll get it too, I’m sure. It’s nice and calm here this weekend though, and not too cold, no complaints.
Love Addy’s hairstyle, simple and sweet. It looks like Addy is fitting in perfectly. I look forward to seeing your next creations.
Wishing you a very nice Sunday, Jeanne.

    1. Hi Cindy,
I’ve seen some of your pictures of the snow you get from time to time and it’s just like what they get out East… at least it looks like it is… We had a nice and calm day today too… sunny and not too terribly cold…
Thanks for the compliment on Addy’s hair. Do you like to fix your dolls hair? I really do! Yes, Addy is fitting in just fine… As soon as I get her loose legs fixed, she’ll be standing next to the girls like a big girl!
      Thanks Cindy,
I’m hoping to start my week out with a bang… that means “with sewing!”
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. When I receive your email, there is a line just below the I Dream of Jeanne Marie that is light blue and has title of that day’s Blog with the time and date right below it in tiny black print on the next line.

Some Random Sunday Thoughts… (Light Blue)
    By Jeanne W on Jan 24, 2016 02:00 am

When I click on the light blue”Some Random Sunday Thoughts,” your current Blog appears with the Speak Your Mind section at the bottom. If I just stay on the Blog as it appears and don’t click on the blue letters, Speak Your Mind does not appear at the bottom. When I click on one of the Recent Articles at the bottom of the current day’s Blog, only the past days’ Blogs appear with the Speak Your Mind section for those dates but no place to comment on the current day’s Blog. Cindy Rice’s Blog has a “read more . . .” to click on that goes to her full Blog which has the comment section at the bottom. Perhaps your Blog needs a “Click Here to Read More” by the blue letter line so one is able to post and read comments. I was a long time reading your Blog before I figured that out. I’ve wondered if more people would comment if they knew to click on the blue lettered line? Since you have so many followers, you would probably get so many Speak your Mind comments that you would have no time for sewing!

    1. HI Susette,
I’m not sure why some people receive the email version of my blog posts (with the blue title) and some receive it straight from the website. I’ll have to ask my webmaster (Sarah) when she gets back from Africa. She set it up and I’m not about to mess with anything while she’s gone.
I have mentioned before, that if you get the email version, you can click on the blue title and it will take you to my website where you can leave comments. Some people just prefer to read the post and that’s all…no comments… and that’s fine, but it is fun to see what everyone else thinks… at least I think so…
      Thanks Susette,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. That’s a lot of snow, my goodness! It is pretty to look at but I’m sure if you are on the end of a shovel or snowplow or having to drive your car in it, that isn’t fun. Hope the weather settles down for the Eastern folks.
Addy’s hair looks really nice in the braid and the idea of a bow in the back is perfect.
By the way, the red swirl dress of Addy’s is adorable. Can’t wait to see how you create the paisley dress for her as well as Kit’s dress. Kit’s material is very pretty.
    Have a nice Sunday, Jeanne.
I’m wondering about the background behind Addy in the red swirl dress. I’m confused – did Addy have a background scene book? I wish AMG would continue with background scenes for the historical dolls…the scenes don’t have to be a book, just maybe a singular scene once in awhile. I have Samantha’s and Molly’s background book but not Felicity or Kirsten. The fair with the quilts…what book is that in? Thanks.

    1. HI Paula,
I haven’t watched the weather for out East, so I don’t know if it’s all over or if more is coming their way… let’s hope it’s over!!
I did have a nice Sunday, Paula…even squeezed in a nap… that’s why I’m so late at getting my comments answered!
Yes, Addy had a Scenes and Settings book too… it was one of my favorites, because it had the sewing room that her mom worked at in the book. I loved that picture and used it a lot! The quilts at the Fair was in Addy’s book. You can find them on Ebay…
There were books for Samantha, Felicity, Kirsten, Addy and Molly.
      Thanks Paula,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Snow, wow! Fun for a weekend, but not having to clear all of it away. Do folks have heated driveways? Think that would be a necessity if I lived in snow country. Love the photo of the snowblower and the little mailbox, all covered, in the distance.
I really like Addie’s swirl jumper and blouse set. My screen also showed the color as more orange so seeing it again is lovely.
Thank you for the “hair” lesson. Maybe there is hope for me to style my Addy.

    1. HI Joy,
Yes, that certainly is a lot of snow and I don’t know of anyone who has a heated driveway, but there might be someone who has one… I bet they are the envy of the neighborhood if they do have one!
Thanks for your comments on Addy’s Swirl jumper and blouse. My pictures of the dress weren’t that great, but at least you could see it made up instead of just a piece of fabric.
I hope you can do your Addy’s hair like I did. It’s really pretty easy.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. 27″here in N.VA. Time to own a snow blower and then if we buy one it may not be used for several years. Our association is a total failure on digging us out.a management change. The strret plow leaves mounds of snow and ice at the bottom of the driveway. Cabin fever for me.

Addy’ hair is a grand success!

    jan

    1. Wow Jan, 27 inches of snow…that’s what I heard Kennedy Airport in NY had. I mentioned it to my hubby and he said, “now that’s a lot of snow to have to deal with.” I hope you are managing okay in all of the white stuff.
By the time you are housebound for a week, you’ll be going crazy! I hope you have lots to eat while you are cooped up!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Marilyn Grotzky

If you don’t know how to French braid, Google “How to French Braid” for lots of instructions.

The dress for Lark is beautiful. I don’t know how many people buy for Lark now, but I’m sorry yours is no longer in your collection. You made her some beautiful clothes.

We get snows like that, not every year, but often enough, usually in the spring. Especially if the leaves have come out, a heavy snow can break branches and electric lines can break any time. I’m sure everyone is being careful, but being careful remains a good idea.

    1. Thanks Marilyn,
I forgot about mentioning that anyone could “google” French Braiding and see lots of tutorials on how to do it… thanks for mentioning it…

I can’t remember exactly what I called Wren’s dress, but it had Bavarian in the title…maybe something like Bavarian Charm? I thought it was pretty on her too, with her blonde hair braided and her hat tied under her chin. I had a hard selling her..as she was my first articulated doll. She was one of my last ones to let go. I still look at her pictures on Ebay from time to time. I guess some dolls you never really get over… *sigh*

I’m sure in Colorado, you know a thing or two about heavy snows! It’s sort of hit and miss with us here in Southern Illinois…we can go years without a big snow and then a year will come along and we really get dumped on. I’m with you…everyone stay safe and be careful.
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Jeanne:
I SO love the Helen Kish Lark outfit. I have 4 of the 14″ ones and she is my favorite.
The outfit is beautiful. So much detail! Is the little jacket all one piece? Is the pattern available ? If so could you tell me the Company.

    1. HI Sylvia,
Thanks so much for the compliments on Wren’s dress set. She was always my favorite of the 14″ Kish dolls too. Yes, the jacket is made from one piece… no sleeves to set in, but sorry to say, it’s just something I made up and tweaked and tweaked until I got this fit… I haven’t looked at patterns for the 14″ Kish dolls lately, but there might be something on Ebay for her now. Just type in Kish 14″ pattern and see what comes up…
      Thank you Sylvia,
      Blessings, Jeanne
