Some “Grown Up” coats…

*** I had my post all written and THEN decided to check into this company a little more… This is one of those places you can LOOK, BUT DON’T BUY!! The Better Business Bureau gave them an F rating. I found out they are located in New York. ***

Well, I guess you’ve discovered by now that Janie’s coat set didn’t get listed… my day was filled with “non-sewing” things…and I also decided to line the mittens with some white fabric, (at Charlotte’s recommendation) because I don’t want the black elastic to stain anyone’s dolls wrist. (Believe me, it can happen.) However, I still have something pretty to show you! Susette sent me a picture of the prettiest red coat…and I do mean pretty! I have a “thing” for red, so this coat really grabbed my attention. It’s also a LOT on the feminine side, which is my second favorite thing for the color red!

I hope you’ll take a peek at this site…it’s called Rosegal.com

That’s the red coat I’m talking about… isn’t it a beauty! AND look at that price!!! Yikes, they’re practically giving it away…$43!!!

Here’s another one that’s a fun swing style… maybe I’m not crazy about the hemline, but it’s eye catching. It’s a sweet plaid coat..

I looked a little more on their website and this is a dressy red coat dress… (HERE)

This is a fun red cape with a bit of fur on the collar. (HERE)

After I looked at the fairly feminine coats, I thought maybe I’d take a look at their dresses…

Do you think my sister Deb might like this black and white piano keys dress? Piano Keys Dress Uh… me either!

How about this green and red Christmas dress for next year? What… you don’t like it???

In the middle of some pretty “crazy looking” dresses, there are a few that are actually quite pretty… Like THIS ONE…

Some of the pictures will let you copy them and others won’t.

Well, I know this was sort of a silly post, but I really wanted to show you that red coat and then I got carried away. I did find lots of ideas to inspire me for new dolly coats! That sounds good, don’t you think?

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Think of it as inspiration shopping. Now you have ideas for contemporary coats for dolls (and yourself). I’ve been kind of disappointed in the quality of of the wool coats I’ve seen lately. The wool seems thinner and less well made fabric. I remember a wool coat I had in the 70s that seemed to be twice as thick as the ones in the department stores this fall.

    1. HI Christal,
Yes… inspirational shopping! That’s what it was! It did give me some new ideas for girly girl coats…which I like best! I know what you mean about the quality of the wool used today. I was in the thrift shop today and the wool on the vintage coats was much heavier.
      Thanks Christal,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. I did send the picture along for inspiration, but I’d love to know if someone has bought something from this company. Have you noticed how ads pop up that relate to a subject like “coat or capelet” that you are writing about to friends on the web or on Facebook?” So much for privacy on the internet. It was so funny to see the coat pop up after talking about the Leopard Ensemble. Got lots of ads featuring leopard print coats from Macys too.

I wouldn’t have thought to check out the site on the Better Business Bureau website. Good idea, Jeanne. I do buy things for dolls from some Chinese websites and have never had a problem with them. Sometimes shipping takes a while but it’s generally free.
Can’t wait to see the Leopard Ensemble on the Jeanne Marie website.

It wasn’t raining yesterday, but the trip into LA, leaving at 8 a.m., took 1 hr 45 min as it was the big back-to-work day after the holidays. It took only 40 minutes coming back home when it WAS raining. That’s why I leave early and take a book along in case I’m early.

    1. HI Susette,
I know you sent it for inspirational purposes, and I do appreciate it. I loved looking at the coats and dresses… gave me lots of ideas…
I hope Leopard and Victorian can be used in the same sentence… because I did! :o/
When I googled he company one of the sites was the BBB so that’s how I found out they had received an F. Yikes… I wonder how they stay in business…
      You’re a planner, aren’t you… always planning, even your road trips! :o)
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Hope you are able to get your coat posted today. It will be perfect timing with all of the weather happening right now. Still raining lightly this morning.
In the middle of a downpour yesterday, a very sweet package arrived all the way from chilly Missouri. My latest dolly is shivering and hopes for something to wear other than her undies very soon. She is a #1 by Geri Uribe with darker skin tone and long beautiful dark hair. She’s my Hawaiian girl named Kaiulani. Kai for short. When she is dressed, I’ll send you a pic.

    1. HI Joy,
I did get the coat posted… even got some outside pics taken…it was cloudy and a bit misty but I managed to do it quickly… plus Janie had the big hat one. I still have to fix the gloves but I showed them as they were in the listing…
Yes, we want to see Kai (does that rhyme with “pie and pay?”)
      I received $omething from rainy CA today… :o)
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Great site for inspiration. I would never have thought of checking them out either unless I’d had a bad experience with them or recently. Thanks for reminding us to check first on new sites.
It sounds like you are on a coat spree. That will be nice for all of us. Now I’m wondering who’s up next.

    1. HI Marilyn,
I managed to get Janie’s coat scheduled for Ebay this evening… and even got some outside shots on the bricks and in the gazebo… they were definitely needed to show off the coat better. It was like night and day. I got to thinking today… I need to make some kind of little outdoor scene that I can use to take pictures in… something with an open top, so the light comes in, almost like a box raised up on a pole to almost waist high, so I can take pictures without having to bend down on the ground. I’m really gonna think about this… when I saw how clean and crisp the pictures outside were… I got inspired…
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Interesting about the site….at those prices, I would question them too. The designs are nice though.

Thanks for the pretties! I trust your day will go well.

    Blessings.

    1. HI Becky,
My day started with a visit to the dentist, but the rest was fun… thrift shop, Goodwill, and I got my coat ready to go on this evening. Yay! I was happy!
Thanks Becky, I hope your day was nice too.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Dear Jeanne, The red coat is very pretty. As to what it might actually look like if one were to purchase it, as you note, is questionable given the cost.
Susette, I don’t think we have internet privacy anymore. I think we lost that at the end of last year.
But it is fun to “window” shop. I used to love to flip through my mother’s Sears and Spiegel catalogs. She would give the old ones to me when the new ones came out and I would cut out the people and use them for paperdolls. Ah memory lane!

    1. Thanks Dorothy,
My sister, Cindy and I, used to cut out the girls from the old catalogs too and use them for paperdolls. Then we cut out all the accessories we could find… lamps, books, pictures, mirrors, etc and we taped them to the sliding closet door, making up all kinds of little scenes.
When I got older and was sewing for myself, I used the catalogs to copy things… I’d try my best to make it look just like the ones on the pages. Some of them I got pretty close. Thank YOU for helping ME remember memory lane…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Very interesting styles on the site you shared from Susette. The red cape-type coat was kind of cute. When I was little, I loved my various coats, hats and gloves. It seems like today, with our car heaters, we leave our warm houses, get in our warm cars and go into warm stores… I don’t wear coats like I use to. But the little girl coats you are making, Jeanne, are so adorable. Loved the blue dress and blue tweed coat you showed us from your archives.
Like Marilyn asked, wonder who is up next for an outfit or coat?

We visited our vacation home owners who live next door to the house we had been staying in and fortunately their home was saved. Firefighters had to walk up to the house on a different path because of a downed power line in the road. The firefighters and their equipment were able to pump water out of their pool to use on the house, thus saving their home. Ours, next door, is unrecognizable as a few other homes in that neighborhood are. What was so weird, was to see is the path the fire, wind took – we saw a few untouched houses between two burned ones.
Now our hope for the California residents is that the rain doesn’t cause mud slides in those areas.

    1. HI Paula,
Well, I managed to get my coat for Janie ready to go on Ebay this evening, but I don’t have a clue who will be next up for a dress… or coat… Guess I better get to thinking about it! :o)

Again, I’m so sorry you lost your vacation home to the fires… I know it wasn’t your house, but I’m sure you had wonderful memories there. I can only hope you find a new place and can start making memories there…
      Thanks Paula,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. I should explain that the house that burned down was the house we always stayed in, in the previous years. We were to go there this January again till we were notified it had burned down.

  9. There are really some cute outfits in that website, but no, I don’t think I would ever actually buy clothes online. For one thing, I need to try everything on before I buy, since you can’t count on stores to have the same sizing. One reason I don’t like to shop for clothes for myself…………..the trying on part! I too, am wary about the pricing. Those prices seem too good to be true, and they probably are! That Christmas dress might make a cute doll dress though!
So Dorothy did the same things I did! I too, used to cut out people to be paperdolls from the Sears and Speigel, plus Montgomery Ward catalogs, and make clothes for them!! That was so much fun, and I still, to this day, have a few of them tucked away somewhere! I heard Sears was having a Christmas catalog out this past Christmas, but I never saw one. I guess the computer is now filling that need, but I liked to be able to turn the pages and cut out the “dolls”. A computer just doesn’t do it for me.

So who is next, Jeanne? This coat is really going to be a winner!

    1. HI Linda,
I’m pretty sure the quality on these things might be like “wear it one time and then toss it!” You get what you pay for and what kind of a dress does $10 buy?

I was a “catalog cutting out paper doll girl” too… Cindy and I did that….along with as many accessories as we could find… it was great to see what you could come up with for a room… We taped our pictures on the closet door… and made all kinds of rooms with the pictures… It was fun and we spent hours doing it…

      I hope you’re right about the coat being a winner… because I may have “bought” something…. :o)
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. I think all the cold weather has put you in a “coat mood”. I do like the Christmas dress, but I don’t think I have the figure for it! The red coat is pretty too, but based on the Better Business Bureau ratings, I will have to pass. Oh well, luckily I don’t really need a new coat anyway! I hope you get Janie’s new coat listed.

    1. HI Carolyn,
I’m passing on all the things from that site too… just too risky! But I wasn’t in the market for a new coat either… :o) But I sort of am in a coat mood..
I DID get Janie’s coat set listed on Ebay… well, it’s scheduled and will go on in about 15 minutes…
      Thanks Carolyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  11. Charlotte Trayer

Fun to see all the inspiration, Jeanne! That red plaid coat would drive my bonkers, though, with the plaids at all different angles to each other, including, in some places, “almost” matching. Arrrrgggghhhh!!! Loved the style of the red coat immediately following it, though, and the lace dress was rather pretty, also (although probably Not for an almost-72-year-old, out-of-shape body! LOL)
