Flowers for Cindy…

A fellow blogger and internet friend is having a dry spell… What does that mean in the sewing/knitting world? It means you can’t think of what to do next; which doll to sew for, what fabrics to use, and nothing seems special enough to go ahead and get started on it. It’s a hard place to be in, especially when you normally make things on a regular basis and your customers are just waiting for you to list the next thing. Not only can you be lost about what to make, then you have to come up with some kind of description about it; give it a name, embellish it and make it exciting when you do list it. I’ve been there many times…sometimes it’s referred to as “Designer’s Block” and it’s no fun. It can get you down and make you second guess that what you are doing really matters…I’ve always “recovered” from it, but the longer it goes on, the harder it is it get back in the swing of things.

Well, I got a hint of this from our dear subscriber friend, Cindy Rice, of Cindy Rice Designs and I wanted to send her some flowers to cheer her up. She LOVES flowers and shares them sometimes on her blog posts. These flower pictures were some I took at my sister’s house last week while I was visiting her.
I hope they cheer you up Cindy, and give you some much needed inspiration. ENJOY!!!

I can’t begin to give you the names of them but just thought they were pretty…

There is a great story behind this fern… it’s from my sister and brother in law’s wedding 25+ years ago! Mike has quite the green thumb and he’s babied it and transplanted parts of it… as you can see from the one inside their home.

…and my favorite…their Jasmine plant! Isn’t it gorgeous?

Hope this brightens up your day, Cindy!

See you tomorrow,

  1. Oh what a pretty blog today from you, Jeanne! I see that your sister has a very green thumb! I am pretty sure that the first picture has Forget-Me-Nots in it, but I’m not 100% sure. If this doesn’t cheer up Cindy, nothing will! We all get “stuck” on something or other, and I hope your writers block is over soon, Cindy!

Jeanne, did you send 2 blogs yesterday accidently? I got 2 this morning, one for the 24th and one for the 25th, but I already had one for the 24th, and they are two different blogs! Here you are—giving us 2 in one day and Cindy has writers block!!

    1. Hi Linda,
Thanks for your sweet words to Cindy. I hope she feels better….
I accidentally deleted a post that I had published back on June 29th…everything but the title….Aqua dresses for a few of my girls… I tried to add some pictures back in and get it back the way it was, but when I published it, it came up as a new post for today. I scrambled to get the date changed but didn’t realize it had already gone through as a new post… Oh well…
      Have a wonderful Saturday Linda.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. I’m sure that this will work. Beautiful plants. Everything is so nice and green. All mine are struggling from the hot weather this summer in Florida. We have been having quite a few
showers the lawns are nice and green but the flowers are not to happy. Oh well you can’t have everything! I think that in the fall they will be beautiful.

    1. Thanks Sylvia,
My flowers and hostas are the same way…shriveling up and all the edges are brown…
We’ve had plenty of rain too…
      Have a great day,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Wow, I am inspired and I didn’t even know that I wasn’t!! Beautiful plants and flowers and really nice pictures!

Blessings to you, your sister and Cindy!!!

    1. Thank you Bobi,
I’m glad you enjoyed the flowers…yes, my sister and her hubby definitely have a green thumb!
      Blessings to you,
      Jeanne

  4. Like Linda says, Jeanne, I have writer’s block and you definitely don’t. I also got a second post from you yesterday. I think you are keeping that one for another day?
The flowers are gorgeous, thank you. The first picture is of tiny lobelia, one of my favorites. This year I have it in white and dark purple, but some seeds (from last year’s flowers) have sprouted in the mulch, so I have tiny lobelia plants in this beautiful shade of blue (in the mulch, but I don’t care). Your brother-in-law must have a VERY green thumb to have kept that fern growing for 25+ years. Thank you for the wonderful pictures and your thoughtfulness, you’re so sweet.
Blocks of any kind are indeed horrible. I’ve learned to keep the designer’s block from setting in by starting something new before finishing up the last thing. Usually this works, but the writer’s block is another thing, so I am not sure what to do. Maybe I should just start rambling about who knows what…now that would be funny, wouldn’t it?
Thanks again for your thoughtfulness, Jeanne!

  5. Hi Cindy,
I hope the pictures of my sister’s flowers brightened up your morning…that was my sole intention! I just knew you’d know what the flowers names were.
I try not to take myself too serious when it comes to my writing. I do make revisions after my first initial post, but I usually just write whatever comes into my head… My brain goes way ahead of my fingers hence the… … … That I use all the time. I know it’s not grammatically correct but that’s just what I do….have one thought go right into the next.
You’ve been doing this for a long time…I’m convinced you’ll figure it out.
You are a perfectionist at your knitting and your sewing and knitting and I’m sure that perfectionist tendency is just getting in your way. Relax and just talk to us.
    Blessings to you, Cindy,
    ~ Jeanne

    1. Thanks, Jeanne. You’re right, just start talking and the words will come. (And then I can delete the jibberish 🙂 ) Thanks for being a friend. <3

I saw the message from Cindy above and your reply. Jeanne, it was so like you to think of another when they are having a difficult time. Two and more are stronger than one. And we are our “sisters” keepers. I’d like to think of this time in the desert of creative dryness as only an interlude where good ideas are building up in the back ground only to be released and flourish when we are mentally rested.
For the creative person I think this is the natural way of things. It keeps us from being totally depleted and drained. There is always a time for rest.
The flowers are lovely. I have a few of these in my small garden. This year I had to replant my pots twice because of weather factors. The first planting of flowers were pounded and drown in the massive rains we had this spring. However, the second plantings have flourished and are lovely. Lots of blues, yellow and pinks. The battle now is the incredible Texas heat which depletes all the moisture. I am watering twice a day and adding fertilizer once a week. Our grass needs a constant watering to keep from drying out. Good thing that I enjoy being around water !!
Blessings to you and to Cindy. Also, so happy for your husband’s test results.

    1. HI Jeannie,
You truly have a way with words…your first paragraph is so well put! I’d like to think of you all as sisters to me… some of you feel like it1
Yes, my sisters whole yard was just beautiful. I know they work at it and it shows! We have more evergreen things than flowers…thuja’s, boxwoods, holly bushes, yew bushes, rhododendron, a huge flowering magnolia tree, ivy, etc. but we do have Rose of Sharon bushes, yucca’s, and a few colorful things.
We are still rejoicing over the test results…and will till the next test I’m sure!
      Thanks so much Jeannie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. The flowers are beautiful, Jeanne. The first one is indeed lobelia, one of my favorites as well. Actually, any blue flower. The second is lantana if I am seeing the flowers correctly, also one of my favorites. I love ferns and have a great number in the shady part of our garden
Hope you come up with something very soon, Cindy. Don’t feel discouraged. Maybe the flowers will inspire you.
So kind of you ,Jeanne. I know flowers always cheer me up.
So happy that your husband got a wonderful report.

    1. Thanks so much Laura,
Flowers do have a way of making us feel a little more cheerful, don’t they? I like the blue ones too!
I saw that Cindy got a new listing on and it vanished as soon as she posted it, so maybe she’s feeling better about her writing… I thought it was sweet!
We are thrilled with the doctor’s report too!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Beautiful Flowers! I know they had to cheer Cindy up!
I get Gardeners Block…I go too far over planting in the spring and now when a week goes by the weeds just take over. Then I don’t know where to start. My back has been giving me fits so it’s been 3 weeks and I think I may try just cutting the weeds off at the crown..at least that would get rid of the ugly growth.
My sister offered to help…I may take her up on it!

    1. Hi Kathie,
I bet your garden looks wonderful… weeds and all. We got out there this afternoon and had to find our way through the weeds in our garden. There were lots of tomatoes but they were hidden down inside the vines.
Do ask your sister to help you. I’m sure she’d be happy to. Give her a bouquet when you’re done!
      Blessings, Jeanne
