So what did YOU buy on Black Friday?

I stayed home on Friday but that’s not to say I didn’t buy anything. I wasn’t going to and really had no plans to, but…. I checked an email and of course something caught my eye. Guess what it was? No…not a doll… No…not fabric… It was patterns! Yep, patterns. I ran across an email I hadn’t opened from Pixie Faire and they were having a sale on patterns. 14 of their designers were offering pattern bundles: some offered 2 and some offered 3 free patterns if you purchased $15.00 worth of their other patterns.

I was in my jammies as I looked through the 14 pattern designers and decided I liked the patterns being offered from “My Angie Girl.” I decided which patterns I would purchase and along with the 2 free ones she offered, I ended up with 5 nice patterns for $17.97. (That was much cheaper than if I had gone to town!)

If you want to check out Pixie Faire, you can click on their website PixieFaire.com . It’s a nice website and is easy to navigate around. If you want to look for patterns for a certain doll, click on the tab at the top for Patterns by Doll and a drop down menu will come down with many different dolls listed.

I’ll show you what I ended up getting… They were a pdf file and I had to print them out… guess all that ink cost me a little bit too… and some of them had 30 pages of directions. I scanned through them and left out any pages of things I didn’t necessarily need… layout, glossary of terms, printed directions, etc.

The first pattern that caught my eye was this sweet Sailorette dress…

The second pattern that caught my attention was this darling Coat…

There were more pictures of the outfits in the directions, but I didn’t print them out so I didn’t use so much ink…

The third pattern I purchased was this sweet 50’s Jumper and Blouse set. It says on the pattern it makes a darling school uniform and I think it does too!

These next two patterns were the two bundled ones that “My Angie Girl” was giving away with a $15.00 purchase from her selection. I thought both dresses were cute, and like I said above, there were lots of variations in the fabrics shown in her directions.

This pattern was called Sweet Essentials and is a very pretty dress…

Her patterns are very professionally done and I was impressed with them.

This is called Little Miss Bertha… (Bertha is a big collar, if you didn’t know already…)

If you want to check out all the patterns for My Angie Girl you can see them HERE.

I can’t really say I “needed” these new patterns, but I didn’t want to be left out on Black Friday… :o) They’ll come in handy in the future and I’ll have fun with them. I love that short corduroy coat…and feel the need to make a coat before it turns Spring! :o)

Oh, I almost forgot… I wanted to show you what Rebecca found for my “sweet treats” to go in with the red, gold and green dresses… It won’t be a surprise to those who won the dresses, but I wanted to show you anyway. I had already wrapped up the red one before I realized I wanted to show you. It was a 3 pack set of milk chocolate bars… gold, green and red… How perfect was that?

Okay…so that’s my wad that I spent… what did YOU buy?

See you tomorrow,

  1. I bought five dinosaur ornaments from Hobby Lobby on Saturday morning at 8 a.m. Is that close enough? I was also influenced by Linda to look at the American Girl site last night and found Rebecca’s Holiday Set and this morning the Samantha set with the little dishes and dress. I love table settings with real china so I’m hopeless when those are half price or less. But I promised not to buy any more for myself but I broke my resolve even before the New Year. Linda shouldn’t tell me about these things as I was not even opening the emails from AG, I was doing so well.

Now I see where the lady got the pattern for the bodice on the witch costume. It’s from the Angie Girl costume pattern, but I used several patterns to replicate it, not easy to do for me. I think the collar on the Little Miss Bertha pattern would be the perfect place to use the lacy crocheted edges of my Mother’s handkerchiefs. I couldn’t figure out how to use them. Thanks for the many ideas and friends who egg me on.

I guess I might be the first to comment as everyone else is Cyber Monday-ing.

    1. Hi Susette,
It sounds like you got some really fun items! When can we all come over and play?
Oh well, don’t beat yourself up… Black Friday only comes once a year…
I was very good and didn’t do any “Cyber Monday-ing” although it would have been a good day to. It’s pouring down rain and has been all day long. I’m happy with my patterns and need to get busy in my sewing room.
      Thanks Susette,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Oooooohhh, Jeanne – I’m a sucker for sailor dresses… I’ll bet you can alter that pattern to fit Little Darlings, can’t you? 🙂

I had to work on Black Friday, so no store shopping for me. But I did shop online in the evening and bought a wireless printer. Not too exciting, but something I was needing.

    1. HI Theresa,
I have seen this Sailorette pattern before and just love the way it looks… I bet it could be resized for my Little Darlings…
I need a new printer… mine makes so many noises when you turn it on, it sounds like something dying… hopefully it’s not!
      Thanks Theresa,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Jeanne I never print out the patterns.. I just use paper and a pencil and trace it off my computer screen. I make sure it is set to the right size.. somehow on my puter I have to trace at 93% to make it right. I have cut a 1 inch plastic square to use as the guide. I love how I do it and it save lots of money on ink. And all my patterns are save on an external disc.
I save money and didn’t buy a thing but I did have to take Tinkerbelle my pup to the vet because she pulled something in her back.. so I did spend over $300 on that.

    1. HI Kath,
I have done the tracing thing before, but this time I had just put a new black ink cartridge in the printer and thought I’d print out the relevant pages. It seems if I leave them on the computer, I always forget about them.
Oh dear… I hope Tinkerbelle is okay now… those “other” kids of ours can be expensive!
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. I found a few gift items that had discounts but as far as American Girl items, and book cases, I didn’t find anything special or included in sales. I see today American Girl has a lot on sale and maybe one or two items are something I wanted. Usually I never find things I want on sale! I wonder what Suzette and Linda are talking about – tea sets, Samantha and Rebecca’s holiday set?
The patterns are all so cute. I too like the short jacket/coat. All the dresses were perfect for AMGirls. The plaids and dots materials used were especially cute.

    1. Since Jeanne ‘fessed up, I will tell how much I spent also. Click on the American Girl Cyber Sale listing, not the regular AG site. The first number is list price and the second is the Cyber Sale price. Good Luck!

      Rebecca Sabbath Set. $68/27
Samantha Holiday Set with the dress and tea set. 64/28
Hair Fixing Set 19/ 3 Best deal and Sold Out by 7 a.m.
AG Bag Christmas Ornament, one for Riya and one for me. 24/ 8
      Caroline Accessory Set 24/ 9
      $199/75

      1. HI Susette,
If I had a contest, you might be the winner! I hope you enjoy all your new dolly treasures! I’m sure you will!
        Blessings, Jeanne

    2. HI Paula,
I’m not even going to let myself look at the AG site! The patterns will have to be “It” for me!
I see that Susette has told you about the sets she bought. Nothing like a little “enabeling” from my readers! :o)
I hope you found something to buy… :o)
      Thanks Paula,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. I like PDF patterns because, you can resize them and then print only the pattern pieces needed for each size doll. I just save the directions and the file name in the plastic bag with the pieces. If needed, it is easy to just look it up. I have traced patterns from my computer like Kath, but haven’t in some time. Have to try it again.
Didn’t buy a thing on BF. Over the weekend, I did buy a mini trampoline online for the grands. Should be interesting to wrap. Since we only have three to buy for, shopping is about done.
I did go to Joann’s yesterday with all of the discounts. They had lots of cutters so didn’t take much time to pick up some cute little prints. 🙂

    1. HI Joy,
I didn’t ever think of putting the file name on the pieces so if I needed to look something up. I may have to try that…
      Oooo… a mini trampoline… sounds fun for the kiddo’s.
I just got a new flyer in the mail today from Joann’s.. I haven’t let myself look at it though.
I hope you got some wonderful finds…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. I bought absolutely NOTHING on Black Friday! I am not crazy enough to go out shopping with all those people out too! And the parking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway, I did a bit of Cyber Monday shopping at American Girl, like Susette mentioned. I also bought the little AG holiday Christmas tree ornament, at $4.00 that was a steal! I also got Samantha’s Holiday Dress and Tea Set, and Rebecca’s Sabbath Set. I have wanted that for quite awhile but couldn’t quite cough up $68.00 for it. There is talk on Playthings of maybe Rebecca and Addy being archived at the same time, since they both don’t have much left anymore and Rebecca has ;more than a few things on sale.

I too, absolutely love sailor dresses! that pattern is adorable! All those patterns are just so cute! I wish I had the time and patience and a room for sewing!! The candy was a perfect touch for the lucky ladies who got your Christmas dresses!

It’s a rainy day here and I bet at your place too, Jeanne, so I am Christmas decorating today. Soon I will be dressing my dolls for the holidays, but they have several outfits to go through. We bake cookies, go to parties and shopping. That’s when they put on a coats and hats, and take their little AG bags to the store—-and imaginary one!! So much to do, so little time! Our big box of Christmas gifts is ready to mail. Having 6 grandchildren to buy presents for keeps us on our toes!

Praying for George as he starts chemotherapy and hugs to you!!!

    1. HI Linda,
Yay… another “non-Cyber-Monday-ing” reader! I’m not alone! I can’t believe Addy and Rebecca might be archived… It seems a shame to me that they retire the pretty dolls! I think Rebecca is one of the prettiest dolls AG ever made.
I can’t wait for Spring so I can make one of those Sailor dresses. I’ve looked at that pattern before and so glad I ended up with it. It’s not anything fancy but it just looks like a perfect fit and styled so sweetly.
It has been pouring here since last night… what a dreary, dreary day. I had to go to the Post Office to mail the 3 dresses that sold last night and I also cut off some magnolia leaves to send to my sister in PA. Cindy loves to decorate with them and she hadn’t asked me for any this year, but I remembered and she’ll be surprised to get a big huge box of pretty shiny green leaves.
I’m not sure what we’re going to do as far as Christmas decorating this year. All our stuff is in the garage and the tree is up in the rafters. I certainly can’t get the stuff down and if we did get it down, who would up it back up? SO…. I have some little decorations I use for my dolls and I may just use them. It might be fun to have a miniature sized Christmas this year.
My pastor just called and told me not to worry about a Couple’s Christmas party this year. Too much going on…Not only is all this going on with George, but right at the same time, my mom has been getting very bad with her memory… severely bad! My sisters came home to help me with some things like looking at Assisted living places… etc. Last Sunday my mom got lost on her way to church and I had to go rescue her. I’ve tried to tell her I’m not sure what the future holds with my free days and not to schedule anything without talking to me first, but she forgets.. It’s been very stressful lately… with her AND George. Geroge gets his Chemo port put in on Thursday and then starts Chemo on Tuesday… Oh boy…. :o(
Sorry, I didn’t mean to say all that…
Have a wonderfully, wet day! :o)
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. I think a miniature Christmas sounds lovely. One year when I had been patching drywall cracks, retexturizing the ceiling, and painting, I just tied a red bow on the top of my ladder and put the presents around it. There was a lot less to put away after too.
I’m sure there are a lot of us who have had to deal with dementia in aging parents. The local Alzheimers association was really helpful for us. They had some great pamphlets and books on how to deal with each problem that came up. It is wonderful that you have your siblings too. After many middle of the night calls for whatever, it was a relief to find a wonderful care home that worked for our parents. We tried in home care too, but it just did not work for their needs.
Both you and George are in my thoughts.

        1. Thanks Joy,
I think you just confirmed to me that we’ll do a miniature Christmas this year. Rebecca is graduating from college on the 17th and I wanted to have some kind of party for her, so not a lot of time left to decorate anyway. I think I’ll get my things out tomorrow..and maybe set them up on the buffet. Thanks!
My mom doesn’t know she’s as bad as she is… that’s what’s making it difficult…
Thanks so much for your comments…
          Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Hi Jeanne,
Happy Monday to you, Love the new patterns. I too am a sucker for a sailor suit and also think that a Little Darling version is a must! You asked about black friday…I’m not a fan. I don’t like crowded stores so black friday usually finds hubby and I at home. Four years ago we ventured out, stopped at a furniture store “just to look” and ended up spending over $6000. Hubby jokingly reminds me each year by saying “If we go out we are not going near any furniture stores! LOL”
These days it’s so easy to buy on line. There’s much to be said for shopping in my comfie chair, dressed in my comfie house clothes. Lands End had a 50% off the total bill so I bought a few swim suits for me and hubby wanted some new turtlenecks. My Christmas shopping doesn’t take long. All the kids and grand kids gifts fit inside a card 🙂 I pick up stocking stuffers year around. The problem with that is sometimes I forget where I put them LOL
    Enjoy Cyber Monday!
    hugs
    Ingrid

    1. HI Ingrid,
I liked your “furniture” story… I can see why your hubby reminds you about not going near any furniture stores… BUT… they are so fun to shop at!
It is easy to buy online nowadays. My sister is a big fan of Lands End… I wonder if she saw that 50% off sale?
Sometimes gift cards ARE the perfect thing to give… especially young kids… they love them! My older sister is just doing stockings this year… they’ve been doing the same thing as you… shopping all year for things to put in them. That sounds fun to me…
I’ve done the same thing too… hid something too well and ended up missing it for Christmas… but it’s always fun to find “later!”
      Thanks Ingrid,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. I, also bought nothing on Black Friday or Cyber Monday for that matter. There was nothing from AG that was something I needed either. I’ve actually found nothing I needed from AG this entire year. I think it’s because I don’t care for Samantha’s BF makeover and I my others are archived.
I love that sailor pattern. Sam’s Middy dress and boots is what she wears in the summer. The coat is adorable, too. My Samantha has the cape, but I also have the Sugarplum coat from long ago because it looked Victorian as well.
The candy bars are too sweet with their vintage design and color coordinated to the LD dresses as well. Perfect!
Time to dress Felicity in her Blue Christmas gown and Nellie in her Christmas Holiday dress. Samantha will wear her meet because I don’t have her Christmas dress or another one that works. Unfortunately, the year was too short or I was too busy because my Civil War girls, Caroline and Marie- Grace still don’t have any dresses save Addy’s orange striped one and a few of Kirsten’s to wear, nothing for Christmas. Right now they are wearing an extra Felicity shift and Josefina’s white ruffled blouse respectively. I guess they’re pretending to be angels.
You do have your plate full. I’m so sorry to hear about your mom as well as George. Wish I lived closer and could help out.

    1. HI Laura,
Of all your comments, my favorite line was the part where you said you guessed Caroline and Marie-Grace were pretending to be angels, because they were dressed in white! I loved that!
It seems like this year HAS flown by… personally it’s one I’d like to have skipped, but guess that’s not the way it works!
Well, I better go see what I can write a post about for tomorrow…
      Thanks so much Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. When I was having chemo, I skipped the port part, but in the chemo room I saw several people, often men, with ports, and all of them looked remarkably healthy. When I was housecleaning later, I bundled up all my old Martha Stewart Living magazines and took them to the cancer pavilion, where they were received very happily. I did notice a shortage of magazines for men. Be prepared, just in case.

George is such a do-er that he’ll probably refuse to sit and begin by cleaning the floors and end by rewiring the entire place.

My AGs are dressed for a Thanksgiving party, three in Jeanne Marie. Do you remember the Blue Diamond dress? It opens all the way down the back and closes with snaps. For the Civil War era dresses, that’s ideal — it’s the very best way to cope with big petticoats, and of course, the snaps don’t snag on tights, bloomers, and petticoats. The others of your dresses currently being worn are a dark blue and white print with a huge lace Bertha collar and one you featured recently — a blue and lavender print with a lavender ribbon trim a bit like bows across the front. It has wide lace ruffles on the sleeves. Two of the AGs are wearing the Sarah Hale dresses from, I think, Pixie Faire. They are appropriate since Sarah Hale campaigned for a Thanksgiving holiday for many years until Lincoln designated it. I found them on Etsy, keywords “Sarah Hale.”

And congratulations on last night’s auctions. The endings of all three were exciting.

    1. HI Marilyn,
They didn’t give George a choice on the port…they said he’d be getting one… George has a whole bundle of things he’d like to find time to read, so that won’t be a problem.
They took us on a tour of the place where he’ll get his chemo and it’s only 2 years old so there’s not much George could improve on…but you’re right…if he could, he probably would try to fix something.
He was helping someone over the phone with a plumbing problem today. A couple of phone calls back and forth and they had it fixed… :o)

Yes, of course I remember the blue diamond dress….one of my favorites on Nellie. I remember the navy dress with the big bertha lace collar too. Yes, I remember all your dresses and how fun that your girls are all dressed up so fancy like for their party.

I was happy with the dress auctions last night too. I’m glad 3 different ladies got them….spread the joy around a little bit!
      Thanks so much Marilyn,
      blessings, Jeanne

  10. Love Sarah Hale. My third graders did a play every Thanksgiving about her. Was so much fun. Quite a production with memorized lines.
    Thanks for reminding me.
