Slower than molasses, but the Crinoline is finished…

Thank you for all the Mother’s Day wishes you shared with me… I felt very “motherly” and loved! We had a beautiful day and a wonderful family lunch. I hope you had a nice day too!

Seriously, this dress for Addy might end up taking me longer than that silver one I did for Nyssa…remember that one? Of course, I was having all kinds of “ravely” problems with the fabric, so that’s why it took so long. Time has been my enemy on this one… not enough hours in my days lately…but every day I feel like I make some small stride toward getting it finished. This weekend I was able to make her crinoline and she’s loving how it holds her skirt out! I will embellish it, but the construction of it is all done.

The waist has elastic run through it but it ties at the end with ribbons.

I always love taking a shot of Addy laying down with her boned crinoline up in the air…

I also added a few little beads to the sleeves…

The bows were tied so they all matched in size and then sewn on the skirt…

Want to see how it all looks?

Need a second glance?

Like I said…slower than molasses, but I’ll get this set done pretty quickly now… a hair piece, an accessory, and that necklace… See…it won’t be long!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Thank you so much for the beautiful Mother’s Day card. It was so sweet of you to send it to all of us.
Addy is looking absolutely lovely. I’m anxious to see her with all of her assessories.
I am praying daily for you and your husband’s complete recovery.

    1. Hi Beth,
You are so welcome on the Mothers Day card! It was my pleasure.
I’m hoping to get her head piece started today…and figure out what she’ll have for her accessory!
Thank you for your prayers, Beth,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Addy’s crinoline is very interesting to see close up. If I may ask, what do you use for the boning? I love that you make the “underthings” just as pretty as the clothes we see. Your stockings, slips, and crinolines are so pretty!
I hope you have a good day!
    Take care.

    1. Hi Charlotte,
The boning is the mesh kind and very stiff. I’ll have to show you a picture of the kind I use…
Thank you for your compliments on my “unders!” “Pretties” shouldn’t just be on the inside.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Beth has a good idea. My family and Martha’s prayed for the success of her leukemia treatment and after two years of rough chemo, her tests are now great. Prayer helps.

Addy’s dress is beautiful. Your hairpieces are always one of my favorite things about your Victorian outfits. This dress may not be going as quickly as some, but it is going smoothly. You did have to take time out to celebrate Mother’s Day (and to recover from that awful cold, and for the last day at the spa). When you think about it, your progress has been spectacular.
Will you make pantalettes to go with that pretty crinoline? You find the prettiest fabrics for underclothes.

    1. HI Marilyn,
We are strong believers in the power of prayer and welcome anyon else who wants to join us.

I’m glad you are liking what has been done on Addy’s dress so far. I hope to work on her head piece today and then I have to figure out her accessory.
Maybe I haven’t been working on it as long as I think… but I do want to get it finished as quicly as possible.
      Thanks, Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Addy’s smile just keeps getting bigger as you as you add the details on this one.
Happy to hear you had a nice Mother’s Day. We drove down to see the grands and had great Mexican food.
Busy time of the year. Hope you have a moment to relax.

    1. Hi Joy,
Addy does like her new dress so far and is asking me all kinds of questions about what else ic coming… I told her it was a surprise…
Your Mother’s Day trip sounded like fun…
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. What a pretty crinoline for Addy, Jeanne! I love the way it holds her dress out! Addy is just glowing in those last pictures! Like others, I know you will find some spectacular “extras” for her to finish off the outfit. A pair of the shorter lace fingerless gloves would be darling along with some sort of lacy headpiece!

I may not be able to comment the next few days, since we will be going on a short trek to Branson. Sometimes the internet connection at the bed and breakfast is so terribly slow, and just not worth the trouble of writing. I’ll try, but it might not go through very well.

Isn’t this weather wonderful? I hope your Mother’s day was fun and lucky you, to have your mother still around. I’d give the world to have mine back.

    1. Thank you Linda,
I’m hoping to find just the right style headpiece for her dress set. I was thinking of somehing lacy too.
I’m glad you reminded me of the gloves… I had forgotten about them.
I hope you have fun at Branson. My 2 sisters might be down at that little Tea Room in Ozark. Cindy flew to Debs and they are coming her on Wednesday. I’m sure they went there to look around in that fun little town.
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. The dress is just wonderful and now the crinoline. That’s a good tip about matching the size of the bows before attaching them. Makes it an entirely different dress that without that touch. Glad you are having good weather and can get back to your sewing room and that you had a happy day.

  7. Hi Susette,
I’m so happy with the results of her dress and I’ve learned that trick about making duplicate things all before ..it saves time in the long run.
We really are having pretty weather and I was actually up on the roof painting close to the edge of the shingles…where George used the flex seal.
    Thanks Susette,
    Blessings, Jeanne

  8. A little late, but I was just thinking of maybe a tiny fan as an accesory? Not hard to make either.
I just received my new Mini Maru Chad today. He’s pretty cute. Know you like the girlie clothes, but would be neat to see a boy and girl dress set.

    1. Hi Joy,
How fun that Chad arrived today….send me a picture or 2 and he can have his 15 minutes of fame on my blog if he wants! :o)
      A fan might be nice….thanks,
      Blessings, Jeanne

    2. Hope to see pix of Chad soon! I’ll bet he’s cute as can be. I have seen a few coordinated boy and girl sets on eBay. I’m sure you’ll find some new clothes for your new sweetie!

  9. Addy looks so pleased with her new crinoline, Jeanne. Your “pretties” ARE just as charming as the outfits that cover them. The beads on Addy’s sleeves were a sweet detail, and her layered skirt is perfectly lovely with the three gathers and bows. Looking forward to a beautiful necklace, lacy headpiece and surprise accessory that will complete her story. I know you will finish it all with your special Jeanne Marie touch!

    1. HI Anne,
Thank you very much for your kind words about Addy’s dress. I actually just added a little more to the beads on the sleeves…and “prettied” them up just a bit more.
George has kept me busy today with a hair trim and painting a window and painting an area on the room eaves…. so my sewing time was limited…
I’m hoping to still make it in my sewing room some tonight…
      Thanks Anne,
      Blessings, Jeanne
