Sister’s Shopping and Tea Time…

Last week when I visited my sister in Missouri, we decided to make our pilgrimage to the Spring Creek Tea Room in Ozark. We try to make it there when I visit and it’s well worth the wait and the food is outstanding. The Tea room is inside this antique shop, so you can put your name on the list and then walk around shopping until they call you. Here are just a few pictures that I’ll share…

We got there at 10:30 in the morning and every seat was taken.

They are quite famous for their desserts and it’s always wise to pick yours out ahead of time and order it when you order your lunch. This is what their desserts looked like at 10:30…

We ate our yummy lunch and then our desserts were brought out to us…

…this is what I picked out… Pineapple Crunch Cake…

…and yes, if I hadn’t been in a public place, I just might have picked up my plate and licked it. It was that good!

My sister and mom split the White Chocolate Raspberry Cake…

There is a fun little antique shop behind the Tea Room and here are a few shots…

This pillow of a Carolina sewing machine caught my eye…

We walked down the street and hit a few more shops…

Guess what these were?

IMG_20150717_125228_951

Late 1800 and early 1900 bed jackets, mostly in lace. I had to stop and touch them… *sigh*

We then did a little shopping at some “regular” stores…Hancock’s Fabrics, to be exact, and I found some pretty eyelet fabrics…70% off! Cha-ching! You betcha I bought some… Of course 70% off $17.99 a yard fabric is still $5.40 a yard, but it still sounded good and it will make fabulous pantalettes for under my Civil War dresses. I really like the tan colored one.

The tan and white one has a little stripe of silver thread running through it.

Oh…and one fat quarter that caught my eye…

I also found this pretty blue fabric and thought of another Civil War dress from it. (Seems like I’m partial to Civil War dresses, doesn’t it?) I AM!

We hit some more places, but by the time we got home we were dragging. I told you before I went we’d probably walk my mom’s legs off and we just about did!

See you tomorrow…. when the GIVEAWAYS start! You don’t want to miss them.

  1. Well, what do you know, Jeanne! Ozark, MO is close to Springfield, isn’t it? We stop there all the time for—–gas(!) on the way to Branson! The only thing I see there is the gas station though, so that was nice to see a bit more of the town. I just love those kind of shopping trips and seeing a glimpse of how people used to live. Those bed jackets were beautiful. I can’t imagine wearing one of those for bed!

We have a little town very close to me called Kimmswick, which is a step back in time. Every so often I go there with my best friend and spend the day just looking around and eating at The Blue Owl Restaurant. Have you ever heard of it?

We go to Branson in a couple of weeks, and when we stop for gas in Ozark, I’ll be thinking of how close I am to all these pretty places!

    1. HI Linda,
I can’t believe you just stop there for gas… you REALLY should stop in there for a piece of cake or something else. TRULY…I’m sure your hubby would love it!! The portions are big and the food is SO good. It’s easy to get to and you’ll be glad you stopped in. They are open 10:00 – 2:00 each day except Sunday and Monday.
I will have to ask my hubby but I think I have heard of the Blue Owl Restaurant. Who knows, maybe we’ve been there… We like to hit the little towns with the antique shops.
      Thanks Linda…
I’m getting ready to make a double batch of those pickles! 2 jars isn’t enough…
      Blessings, Jeanne

What a great day you had! Your dessert sounded and looked yummy! Good purchases at Hancock’s, too!

I have my mother’s bed jacket–not as fancy as those, but pink rayon, and feminine-looking!

    1. HI Charlotte,
We did have a really great day when we were out. I wished we could have hit every single shop but it wasn’t possible. Hancock’s made up for it though.
That’s sweet that you have your mom’s bed jacket. I’m sure it must be very special to you.
      Thanks Charlotte,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. You sure had a good time. Was nice to see all the beautiful fabrics. I use to visit a place that sounds like that town here in Florida called Arcadia. They had some great shops like that. That was back in about 2001. Wish there was a place like that here in Lakeland. Great Day!

    1. HI Sylvia,
Yes, we did have a good time and I didn’t want the day to end. Sometimes it’s just fun to snoop around a small town and see what kind of little shops you can find. I hope you can find one near you.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. First just let me say how much I love it that you explained how to get here to this page to read your daily news. It’s SO much nicer to be able to see the pictures and read without having to pull the page sideways to get the whole picture in. We have some antique malls with tea rooms around here…or I should say around Fort Worth and Burleson where I used to live…and they’re wonderful…always busy and the food is fabulous but the desserts you showed, I think, may have been the best looking I’ve ever seen. I’m not real big on sweets but so wanted to taste both of those. Sounded like you had a wonderful day! I remember those days…the days we’d go “antiquing”.

    Blessings, Jeanne!

    1. HI Bobi,
I’m so glad you are enjoying reading the posts from here instead of your email. I should tell everyone to do it this way…It would make explaining things a lot easier.
The desserts have to be considered a “special treat!” I don’t think I could eat one like that everyday, but it might be tempting. One of the hardest things to do is DECIDE which one you want to have. It’s always fun for everyone to get something different and then SHARE!
We did have a very fun day…no antiques were bought but we have in the past.
      Thanks Bobi,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. That lovely antique/tea shop is neat. I think women really enjoy gathering with family and friends to places like that. Those desserts look wonderful. I hope you got the sewing machine pillow. Perfect for you!!
My sisters and sister-in-laws and I have had tea parties over the years and we’ve kept records of each tea party; the menu, what tea pots were used and type of tea, where it was and who gave the tea party. We celebrate family girls who turns 16 by inviting them for their first time tea with us. It’s a big ta-do. We carry on something silly with our gloves, hats, crowns, and big gawdy costume jewelry. We have some favorite tea pots too, one from our mother and great aunt and one from the Queen Mary ship, as well as our own personal ones. It’s tea pot heaven!

The beautiful blue flowers on yesterday’s blog are breath taking. So vivid – so perfect. The other plants are amazing too. I think a lot of plants have to have the perfect type of light or shade. We have one plant that looks like clover…it’s beautiful and healthy, however it likes being in our bathroom!!
    Blessings!

    1. HI Paula,
It is sort of a girly place but we saw men there too. I think my hubby would love it there…especially the desserts. He’d probably ask for a “sampler platter.”
The tea parties you have with your family sound really sweet. What a wonderful family tradition to pass on to the younger girls. I bet they can hardly wait to turn 16!
No, I passed on the sewing machine pillow… it was sweet, but I passed thinking I might find something else I liked better.
My sister and hubby certainly have lots of color around their house and it’s very pretty!
Live flowers inside your house (bathroom) are so nice to have.
      Blessings, Jeanne

    1. Hi Jevne,
Yes, the town was quite a charmer… I really enjoyed myself.
I wish I had been by myself at Hancock’s, but I would have probably done way more damage, so maybe it’s a good thing I was with my mom and sister. They had so many bolts of fabric marked down and that eyelet was just something I couldn’t pass up. Now I’m wishing I had bought more.
Do you have a Hancock’s near you?
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. I may have to stop making pickles and make one of those cakes…OMGosh! They looked so yummy! Like the pics of the stores too..In fact that one distressed white dresser is what I want to do to a tea cart for a wedding gift.
Glad you had a ” get away” trip!

    1. HI Kathie,
I’ve enjoyed the pickles so much, I’m going to make a double batch this afternoon if I can. My hubby is crazy about them.
That white distressed dresser was really pretty in person, Kathie. It was very eye catching, as was the cabinet across from it. They both were worthy of a picture!
      Thanks Kathie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Thanks for sharing the Ozark, MO pictures. Have never been to MO even though my mother was born there. My grgrgrandmother lived in South Fork, MO. Howell County near the Ark border. She homesteaded property there in the late 1870/80’s. Not all that far from Ozark. Love the cake photos. Yum.

    1. HI Joy,
Maybe some day you can get there…I’d tell you the Pineapple Crunch Cake was worth it, but you probably wouldn’t believe me!
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne
