Shopping and Vegging…

Hi all,
Still down in Missouri visiting my sister but we’ll be coming home on Wednesday. We have done some craft projects and of course…gave some of our money to a few Springfield merchants…you know…shopping. :o)

One of my very favorite places to eat is Hu Hot, a Mongolian Grill where you go through a line, fill up your bowl with whatever you want for your stirfry dish, and then watch the guys there cook it in front of you…I snapped a few pics in case you’ve never seen one before…it’s such a fun place to eat and the food is always yummy!!!

I also went to one of Deb’s Hobby Lobby’s and look what I found…

Not just one, but two…

I know a few ladies hinted that they’d like to have one, so I can figure out how to do this…maybe sell them just as they are or finish them like mine…

I found some little red doll shoes that needed some “love”…

…and I couldn’t get out of the store without picking up 2 of these cotton plant sprigs…

Yep…that’s what we’ve done here…shopped and vegged…just like Charlie and Lucy…

Oh, for our entertainment tonight, we watched “The Ghost and Mr. Chicken,” starring Don Knotts. I hadn’t seen it since I was a young girl. We saw it at a drive in when my dad was still alive…
I have to tell you, we laughed ourself silly!!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. It looks like you are having a great time. I remember “The Ghost and Mr. Chicken.” Don Knotts was such a good comedic actor. Your shopping trip looked highly successful. You picked up some great finds at Hobby Lobby. I’ve never eaten at a Mongolian Grill but I have heard they have delicious food. I’d never seen pictures before though.
Hope you make even more lasting memories. Have a good day!
    Take care.

  2. Still having fun, huh? Get ready for the heat, although I don’t think Springfield or Carbondale are in the heat warnings like St. Louis is.
We have a place like Hu Hot about 10 minutes away from me, but I have never been there, mainly because Michael does not eat Chinese food…..really! So it wouldn’t be fun for me to have him sit there and watch me eat, but I could go with a friend, couldn’t I? Hint, hint!!

Oh, I saw those cotton sprigs at my Hobby Lobby too, didn’t buy, but decided to go soon and get some to use in my kitchen. I first saw them at Silver Dollar City in Branson in one of the stores. They used them on top of the black and white ruffle curtain border that was over the windows. Kind of hard to explain, but it was cute. I don’t think I would use them like that but put them in a tall vase I sit on the floor for a summer look.
So, you aren’t going to feature Grizzly’s? You HAVE to bring something home for George! For you ladies who don’t know what that is, it is a HUGE tool place that we just have to stop for everytime we go through Springfield.

Charlie and Lucy seem to be doing just fine, and it sounds like you all are having fun. I hope it continues and that you have a good trip back home.

  3. I am so glad you bought the little folding backdrop things. I thought, “Jeanne has one of those — she doesn’t need them.” But I was cheerleading, “Buy, buy, buy!” I don’t even want one — I just wanted you to buy them. No idea why.

My parents brought back real cotton bolls from Florida when they were there for something related to the Air Force Reserves, I think. Living in Colorado, we’d never seen any, so it was really interesting. These look pretty authentic, but no seeds. I once saw a pre-cotton-gin quilt, with seeds in the fabric. I still wish I’d bought it.

Lunch looks lovely, and Linda is right, you need to go to Grizzly’s, but how will you know what to buy? Good luck on the weather. It was supposed to be hotter here yesterday than it was. May you have the same luck.

  4. Oh what fun for you Jeanne, and your family members with you. I’m glad you’re able to have this break and spend time with those you love…vegging and shopping.

    Blessings.

  5. Aren’t Charlie and Lucy just sweet?
Apparently, my great great grandmother and family used to go from Madison Co, MO to Howell Co or somewhere there to make extra money picking cotton at harvest time. Probably in the 1850’s or 60’s. Can’t imagine what an awful job that must have been. Heat, stickers and all. Everytime I see cotton such as yours, I think of her.
The restaurant looks so interesting. Don’t have one here.
And can’t believe you actually found more of the screens at Hobby Lobby. You always have a keen eye out for things.
Heatwave appears to be over for now. Fog is in today. 🙂

  6. Looks like you are having fun with the girls and whoever you might be seeing.
I’ve never seen that restaurant before…interesting.
Looks like you found some goodies. whoo-hoo!! Yes, the little red shoes need some attention. I still haven’t gotten over to our craft store to look for those wooden windows. It’s a matter of just getting there.
I am laughing just thinking of The Ghost and Mr. Chicken. Haven’t seen it for a long time but I never laughed so hard when the elevator scene came on. Don Knotts was a natural comedian.
    Enjoy your day!

  7. Hi Jeanne,
Looks like you girls are having tons of fun. I’m glad you had a chance to to get away. Shopping, eating yummy food, coming home and vegging in front of the tv sounds like my kind of day. I found The ghost and Mr Chicken in the $5 bin at Walmart a while back. I did a little happy dance right there in the store lol Hubby and I love the older movies they just don’t make movies like that anymore.
I loved all the flower talk the other day but read it to late in the evening to comment. We bought a house that had many gardens with flowers I’d never seen before. Hubby said there were to many to maintain so we decided to down size. I was sad but he was right way to much weeding. There was no way I’d ever have been able to keep them up. Sigh oh well I still have enough to keep me very busy. I looked up the gooseneck loosestrife I have them in all the gardens I did keep. It is invasive but easy to pull out. It’s very pretty and makes a lovely addition to a flower arrangement. I have 36 different varieties of day lilies. Those were my addition to the gardens. I love gardening it’s a passion. Yesterday I got the best news my back surgeon gave me the go ahead to take off the back brace and kick up my exercise routine. I can’t tell you how excited I am to return to my neglected gardens.
If anyone would like some gooseneck let me know at just_ingrid1960@yahoo.com subject line gooseneck and I’ll send you some root cuttings.
It was fun to see that Cindy still has her childhood Barbies. I still have my barbies but sadly many have hair cuts LOL
Have a safe trip home Jeanne.
    Hugs
    Ingrid

  8. Your “Girls’ Day Out” activities sound like so much fun, Jeanne! So glad you have the opportunity to “shop and veg” with Cindy and your mom. The memories you make will be priceless. I’ve never heard of Hu Hot, but we have bd’s Mongolian Grill here that is similar and very good. More kudos are in order for your Hobby Lobby bargains, also. You are such a savvy shopper that I’m not surprised you were able to hunt down two more doll screens. I’ll bet Cindy could help you paint them. It might be nice to stencil one, too, as I did with some furniture for my 10ers. However you transform them, I know they will be charming. I look forward to more photos of your adventures. Enjoy the rest of your visit, Jeanne. We’ll “keep the light on for ya!”

  9. You are certainly having a lot of fun!! The restaurant is sort of like one we used to go to quite often when I was a child. It was a Japanese one that the chef would prepare the food in from of you. They had the best ginger salad dressing which I have been able to almost replicate through trial and error. The thing I remember most clearly is the little bridge you walked across to get to the dining room. There were koi swimming underneath. I’m hoping to hit Hobby Lobby next week to look for one of those screens. I discovered there is one a couple miles closer in the town north of us and it more of a straight shot than the one about 20 miles south.
Love that movie also. Love Don Knotts in general. “The Apple Dumpling Gang” which stars Tim Conway as well is just hysterical.
Lucy and Charlie look comfortable. Our dog used to crash just like that and I have two kitties that love to sleep on their backs.
