Riley Kish in some Fourth of July outfits…

I have more wedding photos coming, but wanted to give you a break in case you weren’t necessarily interested in “my life” pictures. You all have been very kind and sweet with your comments and I wanted to thank you for letting me share them here…even though this is supposed to be a blog about dollies and such! I promise you I’ll get back to the “regular” stuff very soon…in fact even today… in a minute!

Yesterday was a very long and busy day for me. It started very early and ended late. A young couple from our church was getting married outdoors and then having their reception at a state park near our town. It was at one of the shelters and up a big hill so everything had to be hauled up to the top! I was left in charge of the decorating…EEK! I had help, so I wasn’t the only one working frantically to get it all figured out before the bride and groom got there! We had a few mishaps… there were supposed to be 12 picnic tables in the shelter…there were 7; there was no electricity, so no sound system was available; the hornets had made nests up in the beams…and very sadly, one little boy got stung and just screamed his lungs out for a really long time…it was awful! With a bunch of hands we pulled it off though… and the bride and groom thought it was great! Thank the Lord! (The brides dress was gorgeous and I had a guy take a picture of the back of it as I wanted to share it with you. It was probably the dreamiest wedding dress I’ve ever seen… I absolutely loved it! But it was 85 degrees or maybe even hotter so I know she was about to melt in it. When I get his picture I’ll share it with you. You’ll love it too!) I’m ready for today’s post… I looked at the calendar and realized The Fourth of July is only 4 weeks away. I’ve been saving my “Patriotic Pictures” for this holiday and thought maybe I better start sharing them over the next few weeks. I decided to share some pictures of my smallest little doll I’ve ever sewn for…Riley, by Helen Kish. She’s 7 1/2″ tall and even though I don’t have her any more, she was a little darling as a model. Lots of ladies didn’t like to sew for her as she was so small, but Riley and I had a great relationship and I never minded. She’s a little cutie and I hope you agree when you see these pics. I had Skateboard Riley and Snow White Riley so you’ll see both of them in my pictures…

This next dress was called Little Lady Liberty and as I look at it now, I wished I had made it a bit shorter and a little less full in the skirt. It’s a little overwhelming.

And this little Riley is going to a Fourth of July Rodeo…

Well, that’s it for today…

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Sounds like a good idea to take a picture early. put the picture away, check it later and then decide if the outfit is perfect. I’ve made knit and sewn outfits for an adult daughter’s Hoyer vinyl doll. I cringe when
I see one of my once favorites. Both dress and organdy pinafore are so over constructed with gathers. I was thrilled when I discovered I could gather so much fabric to attach to a bodice and was carried away with construction excess. Love the rodeo outfit!

      Hi Jan,
Thanks for your comments on Riley’s pictures. I’ve learned that sometimes less is better! In person the dresses look shorter but when I take pictures of them at a downward angle it looks longer.
I think taking a picture early on is a good idea…

  2. Hi Jeanne. My fave is the rodeo outfit too, although Riley looks cute in all of them. I just finished my third red, white, and blue set and I think I’m finished with them this year; on to a new color combo.
Glad the weather cooperated for the wedding yesterday. You’re a star for helping to decorate, saved them a ton of money, I’m sure.
Hope you enjoy your Sunday. It’s a rainy one here, but yesterday was gorgeous.

      HI Cindy,
Sorry it’s raining there… it’s nice and sunny here…although the humidity is so high it might as well be raining…you are drenched when you go outside.
You’re ending up with your last red, white and blue set and I am just getting started… after the lavender dress, of course!
I have a Japanese fund raiser dinner this afternoon after church and tonight we are celebrating someones birthday at their house. I need to learn how to “sew on the go!”
      Thanks so much Cindy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Riley’s patriotic outfits are too cute! I think my favorite is the first dress, but the rodeo outfit is adorable.

      Hi Regina,
Thanks so much for your kind comments! I need to get busy on some patriotic things for this year!!!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Jeanne, I think we’re all interested in ‘your life’ pictures as well as each other’s. Your Riley outfits are the cutest. I no longer have my Rileys either, but you’re right, she was fun to sew for.

      Hi Jevne,
Thanks so much for making me at ease with my “life” posts… I had another subscriber unsubscribe and I know it’s because she thought “what do these posts have to do with dolls or sewing?” and it bugs me. :o(
I’ve even found myself looking at nude Riley’s on Ebay… crazy huh? Ten Ping will have to do… congrats on the bid on your newest on Ebay!
      Blessings, Jeanne

      • I love reading your life posts. Keep them coming please.

        • Jeanne W says:

          HI Jan,
Thanks so much! That makes me happy to know that at least I have one follower who doesn’t care what I write about!
          Blessings, Jeanne

I think your posts are just so interesting whether they are doll related, wedding related, or garden related. You will never make 100% of people happy all the time so do what you do best…be Jeanne!
Riley is tiny but has so much personality! I think the Cowboy ensemble is my fav.
    Have a great week!

    • Jeanne W says:

      Hi Kathie,
Well, apparently the winner on this post was Riley in her Rodeo outfit! I remember making it like it was yesterday. She was a cutie and I enjoyed sewing for her. I personally think she was Helen Kish’s best and most beloved doll. JMHO…
Thanks for the vote of confidence Kathie,
      Blessings, Jeanne
