Rebecca’s 1900’s dress is coming along…

I had a full day from the time I got up this morning until now…it’s 1:15 Thursday morning and I’m still not done yet. Rebecca and I got up early and went to help out at the Food Pantry and we got lots done there! It was a good feeling helping so many people in need. We didn’t get home till about 2:30 so my morning and part of my afternoon had vanished.

After I got home I decided to make one more batch of cookies for my hubby’s birthday get together. I got those made and was called and invited to the “food” part after the men’s meeting. A few others brought some veggies and dip, there were 4 pizzas, some cubed cheese and meats, and then my cake, 2 batches of 2 different kinds of cookies, chips, salsa and some green St. Patrick’s Day mini cupcakes. It was good… he was blessed… and all were full!

When I got home tonight, I decided I had to stay up and see what I could get done on Rebecca’s dress. I managed to get the pleated skirt on the bodice and have a few pictures to show you. I forgot to tell you, this is a Keeper’s Dolly Dud’s pattern and I think it’s very pretty. I modified it somewhat by leaving out the pleat at the neckline and I changed the sleeves. Here’s the dress with the skirt added.

It’s not hemmed yet, so you’ll see some threads hanging down from it.

The back has some soft gathers…

I took the lace I plan to use for her sash and tied a bow around the dress…

Yesterday Linda suggested a cameo for the neck area and I liked that idea better than a bow. I didn’t have a super tiny cameo, but pinned these 2 on the dress, to see if they might work. I may check with Rebecca and see if she has some tiny cameo charm or pendant that would work…

Sometimes when I get so busy like the last few days, I almost forget I have a sewing business… I’m glad you are all so very patient… Hope it was worth the wait to see this one.

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

I think the dress is coming along beautifully. Eve Colman at Keeper’s Dolly Duds is very talented, but it takes a very talented seamstress to interpret her patterns with the precision they require. I like the first cameo better because it’s less common, and the dress deserves that. Now we’ll see what everyone else thinks.
I’m so glad you took the time you needed to make everything for George’s birthday and I think it was nice that the men’s group opened the food part of the meeting to the women who prepared most of the food. I’m sure everyone had a good time at the birthday feast. You may have started a new tradition.

    1. HI Marilyn,
I am very late at getting to my comments for today’s post. I didn’t have a chance to do anything to Rebecca’s dress today, but I may as soon as I finish my comments.
Oh, the men made a big deal of the women being there, saying it was a “one time thing” and wouldn’t be happening again… yeah right… until the next birthday probably! :o) It was a very nice evening and my hubby was truly blessed!

      Thanks so much Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. I love the way the dress is coming along, Jeanne! I too, prefer the first cameo, not sure why, but I just do. I was thinking, that before you put the sash around the lowered waistband, it needed “something” and thought the cameo would be good. With the lace sash, you could do without the cameo too! Having the sash removable makes it more versatile, and I like it both ways. I would like to have seen the cameos on the dress with the full dress to see how it looks proportion-wise. I can just see Samantha wearing this with her high-button shoes!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day to you and everyone!

I’m so glad that you were able to be with George at his birthday celebration! I still can’t get over how you can work so late into the night! Where do you get this extra jolt of energy after dinner? I don’t believe I even think after dinner!

    1. HI Linda,
I’m very late to the party today and I’m sure you’re already in bed. When I get the dress hemmed I’ll put some shoes on her and you can see the whole look from top to bottom. I’m sure I’ll have her in my black and white high button boots.

Did you wear green today? I bet you did!

Actually I was SO tired last night and realized I’ve been running on adrenaline since my sister got here last Thursday, that I slept till 10:15 this morning… EEK… half of your day was over before I ever got up. That was very rare for me, but I think I needed it.

      Thanks so much Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. So glad you got to join in on George’s birthday fun!

I actually prefer the second cameo because the colors match much better. I think the first one is too large for the dress. I, too, love Eve’s patterns and recently finished this same pattern using pintucks down the front instead of the pleat.

Can’t wait to see your finished dress for Rebecca! It will be gorgeous!

    1. HI Karen,
Well, now we have a variety of opinions on which button to use as Rebecca’s brooch. I still haven’t decided myself. Rebecca gave me a few things she had in her jewelry stash…
You’ll have to show me a picture of the dress you just made…I’d love to see it.

I’m hoping to get something done on my dress even tonight…
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Hi Jeanne,
I thought I left a comment yesterday, but it was the day before… (Oh, how time flies!) Happy belated birthday to your husband! It sounds like he had a nice celebration with friends, and you too. When I was young I always requested a German Chocolate cake for my birthday too. My mom would always “surprise” me with one.

Thank you for sharing what your daughter makes with us. Rebecca’s necklaces are beautiful and inspiring. There’s so much talent in your family!

Your AG Rebecca is looking pretty, pretty, pretty. Love the addition of the pleated skirt.

    Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

    1. HI Cindy,
Another German Chocolate Cake lover… I think there are lots of them out there! It’s probably because it’s SO good… I have to admit, I love the icing the best… coconut, butter, pecans, what could be better?
I was busy today taking pictures of the necklaces…it took us forever to get the lighting right and the pictures clear! They still aren’t listed, but we got finished with the pictures… I bet I took 300+ shots of 11 necklaces…that’s a little insane. Rebecca tells me I need a new camera… great! *sigh*
Thanks so much for the compliments on Rebecca’s dress. I hope to get cooking on it tomorrow and it would be nice to get it listed too! Dream on Jeanne!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day to you too, but I’m sure you’re in bed… like Linda… you two are my good girls!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. I think the second cameo is a better ‘color match’ – but, maybe it looks different ‘in real light’. I have some of the ‘Keeper” patterns I need to get ‘going’ on…. I’m still unpacking from the doll show/sale (which was a huge success, thankfully!). One of these days, I’ll get the sewing area cleared off again so I can finally sew again! I’m glad the doll show/sale is only twice a year – I’d never make it as a ‘regular vendor’!

    1. Hi Mary,
Congrats on a successful doll show/sale! I know how much work that takes and it’s such a relief when it’s all over! Maybe you can breathe now! Did you take any pictures of your booth/area that you were allotted?
      Thanks for your thoughts,
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. I completely forgot a picture this time… I normally do… :-/
I have until October to get ready for the next one…. will be selling several of my Kish dolls…Chrysallis, Bethany, and babies… I haven’t *played* with them in SO long… they need to live with someone who can give them some attention. :–)

  6. Your work is very lovely, Jeanne. I believe the idea of a cameo is quite appropriate. I’m sure the right one will make it’s way onto the dress. It’s looking so lovely.

And, what a blessing for you and the men to celebrate George’s birthday together. You are certainly an inspiration to me in your giving of yourself to so many.

    Take care.

    1. Thank you Becky,
I haven’t done anything else to the dress today so I haven’t decided yet. It was a busy day and Rebecca got put back on the dolly shelf for the day…
Thank you for your kind thoughts Becky,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. I like the second cameo also for the reasons MaryC mentioned as well as the size and orientation. I emailed a source for vintage trinkets for scrapbooking that can be used for doll clothes. One set lower down on the page has 28 pieces including the cameo and is also on sale. I’m including this here as I know you mentioned sometimes not checking email as often as you diligently reply to this site and I don’t want you to miss out if you’re interested.

The dress is just darling. Riya and I like the dropped waist and big sleeves too. The Keeper’s patterns are lovely. I’ve been kludging things together. I guess that’s really a word as it didn’t underline for Spellcheck. It must be nice to work totally from a single pattern, but I wouldn’t know!

    1. HI Susette,
I did see the cameo in your email and it’s very nice. I think I may have seen that exact same set in our Hobby Lobby…I’ll have to look and see. Rebecca had a few things to show me from her jewelry stash too…
Yes, Eve’s patterns are very nice…and I like her pleated skirts probably the best of all her pieces. They are wonderful…
Well, I changed up the bodice, and then used different sleeves so I guess I’m guilty of “kludging” too. Never heard of that word before, but now I’ll be doing “Jeanne’s Kludging” all the time!
      Thanks Susette,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Such a shining light this morning. The dress is coming along so well. Can’t wait to see your finishing touches.

    1. HI Joy,
I can’t wait to see it finished either… but it sure is taking it’s sweet time getting done.. guess who’s fault that is?
      Thanks so much Joy…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. No photos of bugs today. Thank you as I truly dislike insects in any photo. I want to declare this an insect free zone.

    1. HI Jan,
I ‘ll have to give out a warning if there are ever any bug pictures in my posts… I’d hate to lose a subscriber over a bug posting! :o)
      Thanks Jan,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. Hi Jeanne,

Love the dress, it’s looking great… I like both cameos. Which one do you think goes best? I’m glad you were able to join in hubbys Birthday celebration.

    take care
    Ingrid

    1. HI Ingrid,
I’m glad you’re liking the dress…it’s just coming along a little too slow for me… my life seems to be very busy right now… but I’m determined to get it finished, so I can move onto the next one.
      I appreciate your kind comments,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  11. Such a late post but celebrating St Pats Day came first…
The Cameo couldn’t be more perfect.
I love it that you take the time to bake his favorite cake and cookies…that doesn’t happen very often any more.

    1. HI Kathie,
Well, your post might be late, but mine is even LATER!
I was taking pictures of Rebecca’s necklaces today and we had to use the light to our advantage.
I’m not sure which cameo I’m using and Rebecca gave me a few more things to use if I want.

My hubby is pretty special so I try to make his favorites when I can. Tonight it was spaghetti… pasta is his absolute favorite!
      Thanks Kathie,
      Blessings, Jeanne
