Oh dear… I was bad… very, very bad!!!

PLEASE NOTE:
Just a quick shameless plug here letting you know that Felicity’s dress (seen at the right side bar) or seen HERE, ends this evening. It’s a one of a kind, so make your bids count if you are interested in it!

I was looking…or rather “browsing” on Ebay the other night. Actually I was looking at Caroline dolls… don’t ask me why, I just was. Underneath one doll that I looked at, there were a few other dolls that popped up in other listings. One happened to catch my eye. So I did what any other doll lover does, I stopped looking at Caroline and “chased a rabbit.” I opened up the new page with the new doll and noticed she had just been listed… my heart did a skip…she was pretty cute, a really good price, free shipping, she came from a smoke free home, and she only had one teensie weensie ink mark on her chin.
I used to have this American Girl doll…a #55, but mine looked terribly sleepy in her eyes and I didn’t even own her long enough to make her one outfit. Maybe I never got the lighting right on the doll, but she didn’t stay with me. I sold her on Etsy. I found the pictures of my first #55 doll and thought I’d show you…

Maybe it was just me, but I could only think of 2 words to describe her…sleepy looking.

I did find 2 other pictures of her with my #41 and Saige. I checked my notebooks and I actually bought all 3 dolls within a 2 week period. I must have been crazy!! This is a group shot back in 2013. Actually the #55 doesn’t look too bad here… Maybe it was my lighting…I was happy to see that I paid less for this new doll than the one back in 2013! That’s a plus!

Here’s another shot of her with Rebecca and Eden…

Okay, well enough from the past…This doll I saw last week didn’t look sleepy, so I thought I’d give her a try…she’s a very popular doll with collectors.

Well, she came today and she’s pretty cute… She has beautiful hair, and it’s very soft. I can imagine all sorts of hair styles on her. I wasn’t too smitten with her freckles and even looked into how to remove them. It doesn’t sound to hard to do. I may or may not remove them… I’ll work on that ink spot too. She has tight legs but I put her in a stand as I took her pictures so I didn’t have to worry about her falling over.

I’m a happy camper today…wanna see my new nameless girl?

I guess I need to make her something soon… right after I get her chin cleaned off… I’ll have to see what era she works best for…maybe just another modern girl besides Eden… They are close, but still different looking.

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Really, you’ve been very good for months and months, you needed to break out, and this is a great doll. You are right that the old one looked sleepy. I’ve been looking and looking at your pictures. Most of your dolls and (I just checked) mine have very shiny eyes and hers are slightly cloudy. I wonder if anyone knows how to clean cloudy eyes.

While I’m at it, has anyone tried the Downy trick for doll hair. I found it on Google the other day and it looks interesting.

So now I think your pretty new doll needs a cute play outfit to model for us. What will tomorrow bring? The beginnings of a new outfit or a ink free, freckle-free beautiful doll? Or both?

    1. Hi Marilyn,
I don’t know exactly what the problem was with the doll that I got years ago but I just didn’t care for her. Somehow this new doll looks chubbier and just cuter to me and I do like the way her head tilts a little bit to the side. Maybe that’s all it took for me to like her.
As far as the Downy goes for the dolls hair, it used to be the standard but now I think everyone is saying stay away from the Downy because it makes the hair kind of gooey like. Now they just say to use a good shampoo and a conditioner so that’s what I’ve done the last couple of times for my dolls.

I tried using a Magic Eraser on her chin and it didn’t do much so I tried using hairspray and it may have gotten it a little bit lighter but I think I’m going to have to get some Oxy. I think one dab, covered with saran wrap and laid in the sun and it’ll disappear. For now it’s barely noticeable so I’m not worried about it too much.
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. What a beautiful doll you found! It looks to me like the eyebrows on the new doll follow the brow much better than on the old one, being a millimeter or two lower than on the old doll. I’ve noticed this on other dolls as well when they are painted too high to match the brow line. Somehow she did look sleepy rather than startled. Congrats on a great find.

    1. Hi Susette,
I think you are right…the eyebrows on the former doll make her look silly. They are too high…there’s a ridge and they aren’t close enough to it.
Thanks and I guess we’ll see what’s next for her…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. She’s enchanting, Jeanne. I’ll need to look more closely at your photos to see the differences pointed out between the two dolls. I can see why she is a popular doll, she’s so pretty.

    Blessings.

    1. Hi Becky,
Yes the number 55 is a very popular doll and lots of ladies have her. I guess I’ve had her twice now so we’ll see what happens this time around.
      Blessings, Jeanne

    1. Hi Christine,
I kind of like her head tilted to the side too. I thought about straightening it up but I think I’ll just leave it. Thanks so much for your compliments.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. She is a beautiful girl! She definitely needs a name though. I bet she will be a popular model for you.
And you weren’t bad not bad at all. You are investing in your business!
    Have a good day!
    Take care.

    1. Hi Charlotte,
Oh yeah, right, investing in my business! I saw her and thought she was cute so I just had to give her another try. I’m glad you like her and I hope she stays around this time.
      Thanks for your compliments,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. What a pretty doll, Jeanne! Yes, I do think the first one looked a bit sleepy, but this new one is just fine! I kind of like the freckles, she has a bit of an Irish look about her. Like Charlotte says, she needs a name! Maybe she needs some sort of timeline to help decide the name, modern or long ago? She even looks like Laura on Little House on the Prairie! Maybe “Laura”! That can be both old and new!

    1. Thanks Linda,
I guess she does need a time line and a name…that might be a good start… somehow she does look sort of Irish to me too…
…and yet, she does look like Laura Ingalls too!!!
Thanks for your thoughts and comments, Blessings, Jeanne

  6. How exciting that you have a new doll!!
I have that doll and she lives in my 50’s group, therefore, she has one of the popular names from back then, “Linda”. I had two Linda’s in my grade school class. She is very pretty and her hair is beautiful.
Glad you got her and anxious to see what clothes you make her. I think she could fit into several eras whether she has freckles or not.
I’m been working on several of my dolls by changing their wigs. If that isn’t hard work. I’m happy with the end results but it can be frustrating trying to get the old wig off.
Have fun with your new doll!

    1. Hi Paula,
Our girls can be long lost twins, separated by birth…just kidding, but it’s fun to know you have one too…
We are leaving tomorrow to go to my brother in laws Memorial service…I think I’ll take my baby name book and try to think of a name for her…Surely she looks like a name in my book…
Changing doll wigs…I’ve never done that on an AG doll… have fun yourself..
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Good Morning Jeanne
What a pretty girl you found. I personally love the freckles. I think she will be a beauty of a dolly model with her hair up or down. I pray all is well and you enjoy your day!

    Hugs
    Ingrid

    1. Hi Ingrid,
I think her hair will be fun to play with too…it’s nice and thick and will look good in probably any style!
Thanks for your sweet compliments on her.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. A new dolly. How fun. Love her hair. She would be a great model for a casual outfit with her hair in pigtails.
Glad you have someone new for the line up. 🙂

    1. Hi Joy,
Yes, maybe she could be a Tom boy but with some girly side to her… :o)
I can’t wait to figure out what to do with her. ..
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. What a surprise! Congratulations on your beautiful new doll, Jeanne. I’m sure all your other girls are making her feel right at home. 😉 Yes, #55 is a wonderful addition to your group, and I think she will be a very versatile model for you across all genres and timelines. A baby name book is a good idea and a good place to start. Maybe George and Rebecca have some suggestions, too. With a little thought, I am confident that you will choose a name that perfectly suits her personality. I look forward to the charming ensembles you will create for her, and I look forward to how you will style her shiny thick hair, too! Perhaps she will wear your first “play set” of the season? Special blessings to you and George for tomorrow.

    1. HI Anne,
Yes, that’s me… full of surprises… I”m glad you like my new #55… I really do need to think of a name for her… and I too, am looking forward to her first dress or play set… :o)
I can’t wait to tackle her hair as well…it’s really a lovely wig!
      Thanks so much Anne,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. You have been very good and not bought a new doll for many months. I knew it was just a matter of time before a new one would show up. LOL I really like #55 and would probably have her if she had had blue or preferably gray eyes instead. Except for Samantha, I like a lot of contrast between hair and eye color., but she really is lovely. ` I actually do love her freckles, as they are the “old” style like Kit and Nellie’s. I don’t care for Grace’s or especially Tenney’s.
I think she’ll be a perfect time traveler. I can see her in Colonial, Victorian, Civil War, pioneer, and 1940’s-50’s. I know I’ve told you before my Nellie has been customized with #33 wig and covers pioneer, Civil War, Victorian/Edwardian and 1930’s. The long hair even with a side part makes them pretty versatile. Can’t wait to see what her first outfit is and where in time you place her and learn her name.

    1. Hi Laura,
I really wish she had blue eyes too…I wish I was brave enough to do an eye swap…I think she’d be pretty with different eyes. But for now she’ll stay my green eyed cutie.
I don’t know her name yet but hopefully my baby name book and 4 hours on the car will produce something…
      Thank you, Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  11. Christal Anderson

I’ve been watching #55’s for a bit (but I really like green eyes and brown hair like my own used to be). She looks like a Stacy to me and a 70’s doll.
