My “Pre” Yard Sale treasures…

First of all, Mary’s navy dotted fabric was the hands down winner for Molly’s next dress. I’ll get on it right away…and I hope you’ll be pleased with what I do with your fabric, Mary…

Anne, one of my readers, sent me a few pictures of a dream catcher she made for her daughter’s birthday. She said her daughter’s office is very Bohemian and is decorated in various shades of purple. The 2 keys are significant…one for her heart and one for her daughter’s heart. I’m sure she loved it…. thanks for sharing it with me, Anne. I hope her pictures are right side up… they were sideways when I downloaded them but right side up in my published post… if not, turn your head sideways I guess….

As many of you know, I have been helping out with a huge yard sale that my church holds each year. Because of the weather forecast, we decided to cancel it for yesterday and today. Thursday is the day we would have set it all up and it would have been a disaster…it poured like crazy and everything would have gotten wet or at least damp. Rain is in the forcast for Saturday, so waiting was probably a wise idea.

Anyone who works at sorting, can obviously, have first pick on the stuff… and I did find a few things already… not like my big cabinet, but still a few fun little things… Would you like to see??? just don’t laugh…

I found a bag of assorted paint brushes… we are always using brushes around here for something or other…

CIMG2677

Next I found some metallic acrylic and fabric pants… don’t know yet what I’ll use them for, but you never know…

CIMG2687

In the same bag, I found these 3 odd balls…2 of which will go in my sewing room…

CIMG2690

For some reason, I decided to pick out these 6 photographs.. I have no idea who these people are, but they just wanted to come home with me. Again, I don’t know what I’ll use them for, but I just liked them… I wonder if the 2 young girls are twins?

This resin kitty was in a box with his little checked bed. I love his whiskers that stick out. He’ll make a good prop for some photo shoot…
He’s a good size for the 13″ Little Darlings…

CIMG2673

I know these balloons are supposed to go on a birthday cake, but I thought they’d make a fun prop for some birthday dress. Isabelle is holding them so you can see their size…

CIMG2695

CIMG2693

I found a 2 yard piece of white cotton eyelet that has a pretty design on it, and a piece of ecru with about 3 yards…

CIMG2681

As I was sorting some children’s clothing, I ran across this sweet girls skirt that had a few different fabric panels in it. I liked the bottom ruffle very much and could see using it for a part of a doll dress…so it went in my box…

CIMG2682

Last up, I found a like new iron… a Euro-Pro iron that I decided to go ahead and get. I go through irons pretty rapidly. I still have my Shark iron and have been very pleased with it… This iron I found, has a nice clean, chrome bottom… which is the only kind I buy…as I can use steel wool on the bottom if fusible webbing gets stuck on the sole plate.

If you’d like to read a previous fun post of mine about ironing, check out “Do you iron in the nude?”

So that’s my “tab” so far…I’m sure as I see more things out on the tables, it will get larger…. but I’m trying to be good and not bring too much stuff back into my house…:o)

Have a wonderful Saturday,
See you tomorrow,
Blessings,Jeanne

  1. Have a wonderful Saturday, also, Jeanne. Looks like you’ve hit some jackpots with your treasures. Thanks for taking time to share.

    Take care.

    1. Thanks Becky,
They really aren’t super treasures, but it’s always fun to find something new! Thanks so much for being a faithful reader and comment-er each day…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. What a wonderful post. Your sale finds are great. Brushes alone would add up fast at the art or paint store. Anne’s dreamcatcher is simply fabulous. So glad she shared it and you did too. Thanks for bringing back some of the posts from earlier. When I mentioned I had the Molly ironing board, my granddaughter asked me, “What’s an ironing board?” Although her mother does know how to use one. So many wash-and-wear clothes now, thank goodness.

    1. HI Susette,
I’m glad you enjoyed seeing my few treasures from the yard sale… I think I will get lots of use out of the paint brushes… and yes, they are expensive when you go to buy them.
I thought everyone would love to see Anne’s dream catcher she made.
I had to laugh at your comments about the ironing board… it’s strange to think someone might not know what one is… oh well, sign of the times, I guess… :o)
      Thanks Susette,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Wow, what great finds! After recently trying to purchase a paint brush at Joann’s and finding that the bristles were falling out everywhere, you are lucky. I believe the cheapest one was probably 4.00. At Michaels for a quality brush we’re talking 10.00. I believe some of those brushes pictured are quality.
The old photos are great. I always feel bad when I see them at estate sales. No one in the family wanted them 🙁 I too pick them up if they are interesting. Sometimes you can figure out from the photographer’s mark where they were taken. And if they have a name, locate them on a census. I’d say the girls had just celebrated a milestone with the white dresses and flowers. Maybe from Sunday school.
I’m sure you’ll find more fun items. Hee Hee. Have a great weekend.

    1. HI Joy,
You are so right about the paint brushes being expensive… and sometimes the smaller the brush point, the more expensive the price!
I’m like you, thinking that the photographs are of someone’s loved ones, but no one seemed to care… kind of sad to me… I’m glad you enjoyed seeing them… I might make a collage out of them, or just use them randomly in spots around my house.
Yes, I’m sure I WILL find more items too… :o)
      Thanks so much Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Here is a great hint on your iron… I never use anything on my iron but a fresh fabric dryer sheet. When I get any fusible residue on it.. I just get my sheet that I use over and over.. while iron is warm/on I just iron it then a paper towel and all the gunk comes right off. An added bonus is the room smells so good.. I learned that trick over 25 yrs ago. so easy and keeps the iron like new..
    Hugs, Kath

    1. HI Kath,
In all my sewing tips I’ve never heard or seen this one… I’m going to give it a try… what a really neat trick…
      Thanks so much!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. That blue fabric is going to make the loveliest light summer dress that Molly can possibly imagine. Who wouldn’t feel good in that? To think that you are thinking what to do with it, and we’ll find out tomorrow. One more thing to be looking forward to.

Then there’s all of that lovely white fabric and the picture of the twins — what do you think? Could all of that inspire one of the pretty white turn of the last century dresses? I have a couple that belong to Ricky’s mother, who was born in ’88. It seems to me that you are being very selective and making good, useful choices.

Pictures can go two ways, some leave because people don’t know who they are, and some people would love to have pictures because they don’t. My brother looks for people related to us but not known to us. Somewhere in there the family divided and lost each other. My brother, who loves working on our genealogy, found out about one group and went to their town. Of course they were a little suspicious, but eventually the man my brother found called his dad, and my brother took out some of the old pictures he had. The father could no longer speak, but it was clear that he knew the people and, between the three of them, they could work out which person was which. The son finally asked my brother if he would send duplicates if the son paid for them. My brother said he’d had copies made, these photos were for them. Those are now their treasures. So is the memory of that meeting.

I love Anne’s Victorian dream catcher. The keys are beautiful and worthy of the hearts they represent.

Only one thing in the post worried me — the metallic acrylic pants. I was quite happy to see that they were paints — and surely that can be fixed with almost no effort.

And now — how is George feeling?

    1. HI Marilyn,
I have been in a quandary about what pattern to use for Molly’s dress so I may have to ask for another vote tomorrow… I don’t want to mess up this fabric and it’s not like I can go buy any more if I goof up…
I do like pretty white dresses in summer… perhaps someone will get one soon!
What a really wonderful thing your brother did by making the pictures and taking the time to go and inquire about them.. I bet the guy was suspicious because nobody is that nice today! What a really neat ending to your story!
I don’t know what I’ll do with those metallic acrylic paints but if something comes up, I’ve got them! :o)
My hubby went to work today. He’s trying to get a big electrical project finished. He made some headway, but didn’t get it finished. He was glad when the day was done and he made it home. He thinks the swelling has gone down just a little bit…
      Thanks so much Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Hi Jeanne,
We have been away visiting our son, daughter in-law and the grandbabies in S.C.
I went internet free the whole time! A big pat on the back for me Yah! It’s taking me a few days to catch up with your blog but I did it. I pray your honey feels better soon, that is the worse feeling ever when your hubby isn’t well and there is nothing you can do to help. I pray for Gods healing hand on George. I love what you did to freshen up your daughters dress, it’s so pretty. I think your rummage sale items are so neat. I think the old pictures are fun. I love looking through old photos. I’m sure you’ll find the perfect place for them. I’m glad Mary’s fabric won; that is the very one I would have chosen. I missed out on that pretty dress for Felicity but I’m sure I’ll have another chance soon 😉 Your sisters birdhouses ROCK they are so cool! Thanks for the heads up on the little Darling dolls. I got a place in line. I hope I don’t have to wait to long.
    Have a lovely Sunday, Ingrid

    1. HI Ingrid,
After reading your comments, it was like a summary of the last week or 10 days from me. I liked the way you commented on everything and especially glad you got in line for a Little Darling. You will be so thrilled you did when she arrives!
I plan on having a nice Sunday… rest in on the agenda! I was baking cookies today for a dear friend…
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Your “pre” yard sale treasures are fabulous finds, Jeanne! Can’t wait to see all the creative ways in which you will use them. You have such a sharp eye for interesting bits and pieces, and I’m sure you will discover a few more oddments before the sale is over. As you say, that is one of the benefits of being a sorter and organizer! The little balloons remind me of the dots on the fabric for Molly’s new dress. Maybe there is a story in there somewhere?

Thank you for showing the pictures of the dreamcatcher I made for my daughter’s birthday. I never expected that, but I appreciate the nice comments. We put an emphasis on handmade gifts in our family because they always touch the heart. Your readers have so many talents, and I enjoy hearing about their artistic endeavors, too. It would be fun to have a forum where everyone’s creative ventures could be shared.

I hope George’s condition has continued to improve and that he has found someone to help with the mowing so he can take it easy for awhile. I send prayers and best wishes for health and well-being.

    Best,

    Anne

    1. HI Anne,
It was my pleasure to share your Dream Catcher with everyone here. I think we all enjoyed seeing it…it was very pretty and I’m sure well received. We like to do handmade gifts in my family too.
I thought the balloons might work for Molly’s new dress too, but they are too small. I even asked Rebecca and she said they were more Isabelle’s size…
Thank you so much for your prayers for my hubby. He’s really special to me and when he hurts I hurt too…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Oh Jeanne, what a time I have been having with my computer! I have tried to comment 3 times, and had trouble with all 3 times! I hope the 4th is the charm! I am actually using my hubby’s laptop now, and that seems to be working. It is so frustrating to write something and then it goes nowhere!!!

So glad the blue dotted material was chosen for Molly! This ought to be a fun dress! Maybe a dress she would wear to the circus! I remember going to the Shriner circus in the summer and having to wear a dress! That would never do now!!

Anne’s dream catcher is just beautiful! I’m sure her daughter will get a lot of comments about how sweet it is and different too.

You did pretty good with your garage sale finds. Those brushes are really nice, and you can never go wrong getting those! The lace is very pretty too, and a very usable material for little aprons and trimming dresses.
I would never think of getting those pictures, but I have some like that of our family. Trouble is, I have no idea who they are!! My parents had them put away, and then when they died, we girls got them, but who are they?

The iron looks like it was never even used! Probably wasn’t! I think I’m the only person who irons, but it isn’t my favorite chore, for sure—–but I iron!!

Praying that George is getting some relief. I’m still having foot problems, not fun!!

    1. HI Linda,
It really does sound like your computer is giving you fits this time. Doesn’t it just drive you bonkers when you can’t get it to do what you want? Been there…done that!
The more I look at this blue dotted fabric, the more it’s meant for Molly. I think she’ll be adorable in it…
I think the brushes were a good find too…
I don’t know who these people in my pictures are either, but they just looked so lonely and needed to be in someones house… I’ll figure out something to do with them eventually…
I iron too.. not just my doll clothes, but my things and Georges… I can’t imagine NOT having an iron around. I think the iron was new… it’s nice to have a backup one in case I need it…
I’m sorry your foot isn’t all the way better by now… I think the bones in our feet are just more fragile than we know…
Thanks so much for your comments Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. OH! I’m SO excited to see what happens with that fabric! I’ll be away from home next week, but, I’ll be sure to take time to ‘watch’!!!

    1. HI Mary,
I hope I can do your fabric justice… I’m feeling a little intimidated about cutting some thing out of it… but I will!
Have a nice time getting away… have fun!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. Charlotte Trayer

I’m so glad that the blue fabric got the most votes–it certainly got mine! I can see it as a sleeveless dress with a crisp white collar (maybe pique’?) and a fairly full skirt. On the other hand, it could be a sundress with straps, and a white band across the top of the bodice, just where the straps attach.

That dreamcatcher is just gorgeous; of course, it IS my favorite color!! LOL

Great finds, too. One comment on the old pictures: It could be that they were given up because the original owner died and had no family left to pass them along to. I wonder if the two girls are related to the young man in the next picture–their jawlines, noses, and ears seem similar to me.

Oh, I’m sure I have some of those little ballons in amongst my cake decorating things! I may have to get them out and use them with my girls!! Thanks for the idea!!
