My new Felicity… All Dolled Up!

If you read yesterday’s post, you saw someone new had arrived at my house…[if you missed it, you can read that post HERE.] She looked like a pretty doll on Ebay and I bombarded the poor seller with every question imaginable, but sometimes what you think you are getting and what actually arrives can be miles apart. Fortunately for me, my surprises were very limited.

I love her soft skin and the matte finish to her face…There isn’t a single rub or shine mark that I’ve found on it. YAY! I love the color of her eyes too!

So when I left you yesterday, I had scrubbed her body and cleaned off her face and was washing her hair. It wasn’t too dry but it was very coarse and dull looking. So here’s where we are today…

As I was letting her hair dry, I kept curling it under with my hands…training the ends to go all in the same direction.

I wanted to show you a close up of her hair too…it’s not just one color, but several blended together, making it extra pretty. You might want to click on this picture and see it enlarged.

When her hair began to dry, I noticed this little sprig sticking out in back.

CIMG1577

It turned out to be a section of the wig tufts sewn on the little bands.

CIMG1578

CIMG1581

It needed to be sewn back to the wig cap and hidden…

I would like to curl her hair sometime and see if I can get some ringlets from it… but for now, these glamour shots will have to do…

…and since she doesn’t have anything from me to wear yet, she’ll have to show you her final look back in her meet dress…

Isn’t she pretty? I am very taken with her…I’m LOVING those eyes!

CIMG1611

I couldn’t stand it… so I had to torture Felicity, who hasn’t even been here one full day yet! Poor thing…

But unfortunately… you’ll have to come back tomorrow to see if her curls “took!” I hope they do or it might be my most boring post ever!
S-O-R-R-Y….

Well, my younger sister is coming in today, so I’ve GOT-TO-STOP-PLAYING!!!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. She turned out just lovely, Jeanne! Her hair is much lighter than my Felicity’s hair and you did a great job of “fine-tuning” it! Most of the time my Felicity has something on her head, and wears a low pony-tail. her hair is just so easy and nice and thick, that it doesn’t take much to have her looking good.

Maybe Rebecca could make her the coral necklace that Felicity has. I usually have her wear that when she wears the old meet dress, which I just love! I bought one off Ebay, since mine came in the purple one. Oh, I just remembered, you SELL dresses for her!

I can’t wait to see how she looks with the curlers off! I don’t think Felicity’s hair will go in ringlets or at least stay that way with the texture of her hair, but you never know. You never know until you try!

    1. HI Linda,
Running a bit late here… my sister came in and we spent the entire day together along with my mom. We literally shopped till we dropped, but had so much fun doing it!

I think Felicity is very pretty too! I’m liking this girl a lot!
Yes, Rebecca could make her a pretty necklace…as a welcome gift!

You were right, no ringlets, but pretty none the less!
      Thanks Linda,
      blessings, Jeanne

  2. What a great job you have done with her hair. Looks really nice. Anxious to see how she looks
all dressed up! I’m sure that she is very happy to be with you. Have a nice visit with your sister.

    1. Thanks Sylvia,
She’ll have to wait for a new dress, but for now she’s the only one on my doll shelf that has any clothes on…maybe that’s why I see a hint of a smile on her face!
I have had a nice visit with my sister… we’ve been together ALL day long and she has to go back tomorrow, but it was very fun!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Dolls make simply marvelous grown-up toys, don’t they?! I can’t stop messing with my new smiley Darling. Her little grin is just so inviting. So will this doll’s name be Felicity and will Felicity ever have a dress of her own she can keep?

Have a wonderful weekend with your sister, Jeanne!

    1. Yes, Bobi, dolls do make wonderful grown up toys… I would have to agree. I’m so happy you are enjoying your new Little Darling!
Yes, Felicity will be Felicity and I’ll get her a dress made as soon as her slot comes up to model.
I have had a great day with my sister…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Felicity is just beautiful after the work you did on her. Her hair is really pretty. I can’t believe how you sewed the wig tuft back on!!! Jeanne, you amaze me! She really is a beautiful doll. Most excellent buy! Love her hair color.
I bet Felicity is SO glad she came to live with you!!
    Blessings.

    1. HI Paula,
Thanks so much for your compliments on Felicity… she’s easy to like and she looks very pretty!
      I hope she’s glad she’s here too!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. I forgot all about the American Girl Felicity. She’s been retired for awhile, no? You made her look beautiful again, Jeanne. I’ll bet she’s one happy little doll!

    1. HI Cindy,
Yes, Felicity is one of the retired dolls and you don’t see much of her anymore, but lots of people collect her so I’m hoping to get some dresses made for her soon. I love the Colonial styles almost as much as the Civil War styles.
Thanks for your compliments on her. I think she is happy…
      Blessings, Jeanne

Your Felicity is really beautiful ! I did see the variation of color in her hair. This just makes it look even more natural. I hope your curls work well.
I have actually taken a curling iron set on low and added curls to an AG doll. I also used the curling iron to straighten out Julie’s hair when it was a frizzzzzzzzzed out mess. It was a very slow process but in the end Julie looked pretty much back to new hair status. I was every so careful when I began to make sure I would not scorch the hair but it did work.
We are looing forward to the beautiful gowns you will make for your new Felicity.
{no more selling of your Felicity dolls} !!!

    1. HI Jeannie,
You’re right…no more selling my Felicity dolls! I think I may have found my girl this time!
I do like the color of her hair…it is very pretty and it will look good with many fabrics I think.

You were brave to try the curling iron on your dolls hair, but sometimes they are so bad, it’s almost worth it to give it a try.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Jeanne: The scarf has arrived!!!!! It is beautiful! Can’t wait for fall so I can wear it. Blues are my favorite colors and always have been as long as I remember, high school days! going back to the 50’s
ugh! My thanks go out to and Rebecca. Tell her she did a great job on it. I love it!
I probably won’t be checking in every day starting Tuesday as we are heading to New England for a visit to family and friends for two weeks. Have a nice weekend with your sister.
    Sylvia

    1. HI Sylvia and thanks for letting us know your scarf arrived and that you liked it. It will be a fun one to wear this Fall.
Have fun on your visit with your friends and family! I’ll see you when you get back…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Her hair looks so much nicer, Jeanne. Kudos for sewing the little strip back on the wig cap, I might have been tempted to just cut it off. lol

    1. HI Jevne,
Sewing the wig tuft back on was a very simple fix and it had too much hair on it to just snip off. I guess if you bought another Felicity wig you could take off the tufts and stitch them in between the spaces and have a really nice full wig… that might be fun to try sometime!
      Thanks Jevne,
      Blessings, Jeanne

I wore the earrings Rebecca made and I won in your anniversary earring drawing to dinner last night. They looked wonderful. Thank you both very much.
Your Felicity now looks completely wonderful (or she did just before the curlers) and I’m looking forward to seeing her in her first outfit. I’ve been surprised at how at home my new Felicity looks in anything 19th century, and she does fine in anything newer as well.
With all your beautiful dolls, you are going to have to show each outfit on more than one doll.
I can hardly wait for tomorrow’s post to see how the curls work out.

    1. Hi Marilyn,
I’m glad you liked the earrings and hope you had a nice dinner!
Felicity is B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L… but she was before the curlers too. I think she might be smiling a bit more though now!
I’m not sure what she’ll model first…I’m as anxious as anyone else to see what I decide on.
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. Felicity is coming along beautifully. You’ve done a marvelous job getting her to look brand new again. dolls are such a creative outlet for adults. I knew you would fall in love with her eyes once you had her. The decal eyes of those oldest 1991 Felicitys are stunning. The many shades of red in their hair is so different than the Mattel ones IMO.
Just be careful now because if your Felicity is like my Felicity, she will soon become the darling of the dolls. *smiles and laughs*

    1. HI Laura,
Thanks so much for your sweet comments on my Felicity doll. She has been fun to transform into a real beauty…not just a doll…
I do like her hair and her eyes very much… especially how her eyes are places… I didn’t like my old dolls eyes at all!
Oh dear, we can’t have any favorites… so I’ll have to be careful!
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  11. She’s just beautiful! That red hair and green eye combination is striking. She will look pretty in no matter what color you put her in…even my most unfavorite lavender/purple >ROFLOL!!

    1. Thanks Kathie,
I think about the 5th doll dress I ever made for Felicity was a lavender one… I called it Lovely in Lavender and she looked pretty cute in it…so keep an open mind…. :o)
      Blessings, Jeanne

  12. Not being creative in the hair department, I look forward to seeing your results. I have several girls in need of hair treatments, and perhaps this will inspire me. Your “new” girl looks like she can’t wait for one of your dresses to model.

    1. Hi Joy,
I think Felicity turned out beautiful and I can’t wait to share her with you all. Not a drastic change but pretty!
I’m anxious to see what we come up with for a dress too!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  13. Anything I i know about AG dolls I learned from your blog. Congratulations on a successful ebay purchase. I’ve bern lucky lately with L
Ddolls. in the past I once bought a doll that appeared to,have been living in a sand dune. I could have returned but I thought that if the seller needed money this badly, than I could donate this money to her. The seller was new to bay. I had asked questions too.

havea great time with sister. Besides good friends, family is wonderful to be close to visit.

    1. Hi Jan,
It’s funny that you said you learned about the AG dolls from me… I’m probably the least informed person you could meet, when it comes to the dolls, but I do try to pass on what I know or have experiences with them. I’m glad I have helped you in any small way.
We’ve probably all got a doll story like yours… sorry! :o(

We had a wonderful day today and I’ll be sad to see her go home tomorrow afternoon. :o( again…

  14. I love your new Felicity! I have one about the same age as yours and she’s just such a pretty doll. The red hair and green eyes are a very nice combination. I don’t think you will get her hair to set in ringlets, although I could be wrong. I was able to restore the little side curls on my Felicity but I had to gel them a little and leave them rolled for a long time. Have fun making colonial outfits for your Felicity and Elizabeth!

    1. Hi Carolyn,
Yes, I do love this older Felicity doll. I like your idea of the gel for the ringlets around her face… I might try that…
      Thanks so much Carolyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne
