My American Girl “Sister Set” is sewing up so sweetly!

I managed to find some time for sewing yesterday. We had a nice lunch with our kids but it was a bit hectic in the kitchen with 3 cooks trying to make “their” dish… Kristoffer made this bean dip that was out of this world. It was all gone by the time we got to the table… I guess we’ll call it an appetizer…but it was good! I may have to have him write it down so I can share it with you…It was disappearing so fast I grabbed a little bowl and put some in so I could show you…

Then I was making wilted salad from some of the butter crunch lettuce Gloria gave me when we visited the other day.

Rebecca was washing the lettuce for me and working on a dish for herself… (she’s a health foodie so she’s always making her own things…)

Kristoffer also made his own BBQ sauce and was making the hamburgers. I was shucking the corn cobs and cooking the bacon…and making a very good Ambrosia salad… it was crazy in the kitchen and it was pretty messy…

…but we sat down and enjoyed a wonderful lunch! It wasn’t fancy in the least but it sure was good!

CIMG1497

After lunch I had an alterations job that Kristoffer asked me to do… fix a zipper in a fishing pole carrying bag… now that’s a first! I got it done and the guys watched a movie but I made my way into my sewing room and started working on the sister dresses again. They are coming along nicely and look really cute together…

CIMG1499

I’m done with the basic part of the dresses but not totally done with how they’ll look when you see them next. I added a little accent area of buttons on each dress and tried to copy each one just like the other.

It’s funny, when I put my dolls together, I noticed Lily is taller than Eden. It’s not her shoes I don’t think, but I am going to check it tomorrow and change them and see if they are what’s making her taller. I want them the same height in my pictures.

Anyway, there’s still things to be done on the sets, but I wanted to share with you the progress I’ve made on them. It’s been really fun doing two dresses the same, but sort of different! :o)

Maybe I can get them finished soon!

See you tomorrow,

  1. The height difference can’t just be Lily’s shoes. Her waist is higher, and so are her shoulders. Eden looks like she’s standing up straight. One more mystery to solve by tomorrow. I’m especially fond of the white sandals. Where did you find them?

I wondered where the stars would go. The outfits are coming out very well. I think you chose the right models for them.

Kristoffer’s bean dip looks great. Sharing the recipe would be appreciated. Everything looks good. Tell us more about the ambrosia salad. It looks like exactly the right meal for Memorial Day.

    1. HI Marilyn,
The dolls are different in size… most definitely… Lily has a longer cloth body… you can see the difference in them even around the neckline… they aren’t the same.
My sister out in PA sent me those strappy sandals… and I love them. It’s the first time I’ve used them. I wish I had a red pair…that would be adorable.

I got lots of suggestions from everyone about how to decorate the dresses, but decided to keep my original idea and go with it. I’m not done yet, but almost…

I will ask Kristoffer for his recipe as it’s a wonderful summer time one… it would be very good for 4th of July picnics with those blue corn chips…
It was a great meal… all of the Ambrosia and the bean dip disappeared pretty quickly…

      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. Lily and Eden are like me and Linda, my next sister. I’m 15 months older so I was a little taller and blonde, and she had brown hair. If it’s a concern that the dresses may not fit the dolls they are bought for, why not have a couple of pictures of Lily in red and Eden in blue?

  2. You certainly had a yummy day yesterday, Jeanne! It looks like everyone contributed something, except George or doesn’t he cook? For sure, he can have his pick on food there!

I just never got around to writing anything yesterday, and before you know it, the day was over! I did read your blog though, and saw that you had different colored star buttons, that you had used previously, so thought I would see those make a com-back with these two!

Why should sisters be the same size?I don’t think it makes a difference on the height of the dolls. One is always older than another, so I don’t think that should matter, but yes, there are variations in the AG dolls. I think it is kind of cute that the girls are a bit different in height for the pictures, but I also understand you want people to think that the dresses would fit their dolls. Maybe have the shorter doll stand on something that cannot be seen, or covered up a bit around the feet. I have 8 AG dolls of varying heights and widths, too I might add! They say the stuffing does make for different sizes, and if you take the head off and rearrange it or take some out you can change the size, but I, for sure would never do that! I think they look so cute just as they are. Sisters are rarely the same size! Those dresses are darling and can’t wait to see how they look finished!

    1. HI Linda,
I “found” your missing comments still in the “pending” section… and so I combined your comments into one. I don’t know what was up with that….and I don’t know what’s up with the comments not being posted and also about your quilt block being a different color… that’s strange…

I’ve made a list of questions and I’m going to call and see if I can find out any answers…
      “Inquiring minds want to know!”

Yes, my hubby cooks…he’s very good… last week he made Sauerbraten.. a German dish… He’s not like some husbands who starve when the wife’s away… he cooks what he wants when I’m away…

The more I look at the girls in their 2 different heights, the more I’m liking it… it’s almost like Lily is stretching with all her might to stay a bit taller than Eden…Eden looks like she could care less.

Rebecca just left and my hubby is heading to town, so I’m going to work on them… while I have no interruptions…
      Thanks so much Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Absolutely warm family time together on Memorial Day the way it sounds, Jeanne. What a nice way to spend the day together.

And, your sister set is just so cute and pert. Your gifts and expertise in putting outfits together is just so much fun to watch…something I tell you over and over, but it’s true. Thank you for taking time to share all of this with us.

    Take care.

    1. HI Becky,
Thank you so much for your very kind words about my sewing… I LOVE to sew and I hope it shows!
We really did have a nice day…and everyone did what they wanted in the end…
It’s my pleasure to chat with everyone each day…
      Thanks Becky,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. What a wonderful spread you had for your Memorial Day lunch! Great cooks in the kitchen, even in each other’s way! 🙂

I wouldn’t change a thing with the dolls’ different heights. I have several that are shorter than the others. It just makes them seem more like real sisters with different physical traits. I love the dresses so far! I think I know what you may be adding next, but I won’t say. I’ll let you surprise your readers.

    1. HI Karen,
Okay, you’ll have to share tomorrow if you guessed what I will be doing to finish up the dresses. I’m almost done but I hope to get lots done on them today…
Thanks so much for reading each day, Karen,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Hi Jeanne,
We often eat the same way; everyone makes their own thing, and we run into each other too. No one has gotten hurt yet! 🙂
Your dresses are looking cute. The buttons have a “fireworks” feeling, great idea to put them on the shoulders of the dresses.
    Have a great day!

    1. Thank you Cindy,
It’s been really fun sewing 2 dresses at one time… I’ve been doing a little “assembly line” sewing making it go a little faster.
I saw your 5 doll dresses this morning but my ipad wasn’t letting me comment… I’ll do it in a bit… they are adorable without their sweaters…
      Thanks Cindy,
      Happy Knitting!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. The food looks so yummy! Hope you can share Kristo’s recipe. We ate at Arby’s but did make it to both cemeteries 10 miles apart to put out fresh flowers.
The dresses are coming along. Funny how the dress skirts are identical in length but dollies different. I like them that way.

    1. Thanks Joy,
The lunch was over so quickly, I’m almost like you, ready to opt for dining out and then be off to do whatever I need to get done much faster… but for now, we’ll still cook.
I will have Kristoffer give me the recipe for his bean dip.

I’ve gotten over that the girls are different heights and I’m not going to worry about how they look. I just need to get them finished!
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. The Memorial Day meal looks so yummy. Kris’ BBQ sauce has to be good along with his dip. And the corn – I haven’t had corn-on-the -cob for ages…must get some!!
Jeanne, the sister dresses are so cute. As usual, your accents are perfect. I keep hearing the song “Sisters” from that old movie, “White Christmas”. Rosemary Clooney and not sure of the other lady. Anyway, the dresses are adorable.
I think that’s cool how our dolls (AMG) are shaped differently.
Linda, I too wrote an email yesterday and it disappeared. To my knowledge I saw it on the blog but the screen went blank and it was gone. Weird.

    1. HI Paula,
I’m right there with you about that “Sisters, sisters…” song and have been singing it as I’m sewing the dresses! Thanks for your compliments on them.
Like I told Linda, I’m going to call my blog host and ask a few questions about comments….
      It shouldn’t be doing that…
      Thanks Paula,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Paula, I just now noticed that the little quilt square to the right of my name is back to the original lime green one. The comment that disappeared had a different color and pattern, so something is going on with Jeanne’s blog! I thought maybe she was changing things up, but does she have time for that?

    1. HI Paula,
I noticed your quilt block was different when you answered Paula too… strange…

  9. Good morning Jeanne!

Glad you enjoyed a wonderful family lunch with wonderful “fixins” for the holiday. I, too, would appreciate the bean dip recipe if your son doesn’t mind sharing his culinary wonders!

The sister dresses are charming! I love the matching styles in different colors, and I can’t wait to see their completion. Wondering if maybe they will have “sparkly” slips underneath that peek out at the bottom?

Has Eden ever had her legs tightened or any other adjustments? Perhaps that could account for the height difference, but I don’t think it matters. Like real sisters, we can celebrate their uniqueness.

Hope you find some time to enjoy this beautiful weather. Summer is at the doorstep!

    Dolly Hugs,

    Anne

    1. Thanks Anne,
We did have a wonderful lunch and visit… the food was great but the time spent together was even better.
You “never know” if slips might be involved… stay tuned to see! :o)

Lily has a much longer cloth body than Eden does… I think that’s where the difference lies…
Oh yes, I’ll be enjoying the summer weather…. my older sister is coming from PA in about 2 weeks and we plan to do lots of things together…inside and out!
      Thanks Anne,
      Have a wonderful day,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. Well, you certainly had a delicious lunch yesterday. The bean dip looks like a yummy combination of frijolemole and pico de gallo. I really love the sister dresses. Some AG dolls are taller than others and most are taller than the PC ones. My 2004 Nellie is close to an inch taller than my 1991-1992 German PC Samantha. Also even though my Caroline and Marie-Grace are both AG, Caroline is slightly taller which works out well in my doll world as they are Civil War cousins and Caroline is meant to be six months the elder. i do think MG was universally created on the petite side.
I love the little fireworks button design you created on the dresses. It is always so enjoyable to see what you come up with each time for the PC/AG girls and vicariously anticipating the delight of the person who gets it.

    1. Thank you Laura,
I’m just getting ready to list them on Ebay… so I was good and got them finished! YAY!
I decided not to worry about the height differences. I guess it really doesn’t matter anyway.
Thank you for your kind compliments on the dresses. They were fun to create… I hope my pictures turn out well and showcase them like I want them to be…
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  11. Well, that’s interesting… my quilt square has changed from purple to blue. That is perfectly fine because I like my new blue one better.
Hope you are having a lovely day.

    1. Well, Laura,
I don’t have a clue what’s going on with the quilt squares changing… maybe they change every so often so you don’t get tired of the same color… who knows…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  12. Those dresses will perfect for the 4th of July! It looks like a good lunch. It’s not fancy, but that is how my family likes to eat. Probably most families feel that way. If the bean dip is made with black-eyed peas, it’s what we call “Texas Caviar”. I put chopped up jalapeños in mind, but I didn’t see any in the picture you posted. It’s really good, and works great for parties.

    1. HI Carolyn,
It’s funny, but when you mentioned Texas Caviar, I remembered Kristoffer called his Kris’s Caviar… and his does have black eyed peas in it… he usually puts cilantro in his, but I’m not a big fan of cilantro, so he left it out… I didn’t get his recipe today but I will soon…
Thanks so much for your comments, Carolyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne
