My After Christmas Shopping…

It’s been years since I went shopping the day after Christmas, but today it was all dreary and rainy and I just didn’t feel like staying home and cleaning house, SO…I decided mid morning that I would go to town and see if there was anything I couldn’t live without. I did find a few things.. not clothes, which I heard was the number one thing people shop for. In fact, you’ll think I’m silly for the things I bought, but they made me happy, so I bought them!

First up, I went to Joann Fabrics… and got these few things…2 plastic totes with snap closures…I’m not sure what I’ll put in them but I have 2 that I use for my stuffed animals and toys and like how easy they are to stack and see inside.

Then I found one snap tote that was twice as deep as the others and it included dividers in it…I think I might put my smaller pieces of fabric in here, stacked up so they are easy to see…

I know Valentine’s Day is the next holiday on the calendar, (after New Year’s Day) so I picked up one new pink and white floral print… It’s very sweet looking…not sure who’ll get it…

CIMG5636

Just as I was about to check out, I found a bin full of packages of yarns and since we are a little short on lavenders, I picked this bundle up. It’s almost like a chenille yarn and very pretty!

CIMG5632

I got these two new fat quarters for Valentine’s Day too… I think they are both sweet…

CIMG5642

Everything I bought was on sale and then I used my 20% off Total Purchase coupon for an extra sweet savings!

Then I hit Walmart, and in the midst of the madhouse, I snagged a few things for next year…

The tape that I use to package up all the dresses I sell…

CIMG5627

Lots of tissue paper to wrap all the dress sets in…(400 sheets…it should last me a little while, I hope!)

CIMG5643

…and a new planner book…for 2016 and 2017! I guess I’m planning on blogging for a while… Since it was so dreary out, I picked the bright one instead of the black cover. I use the planners to write down all my blog posts…

CIMG5646

This is the one I’m using now and I am almost out of days….

CIMG5649

I wonder what will be the first post of the year and who will be the first to model anything????

See…I told you the stuff I bought was boring… I hope you got something fun and pretty in your shopping today!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Jeanne Marie — born to be neat. The pages of your planners could be framed. Even your handwriting is beautiful.

Valentine’s Day is the next big holiday after New Year’s, but if you wanted to, you could still make a couple of cheery warm winter dresses — February 2 is Candlemas, which is half way through winter and would be a great day for a pretty dress for Kirsten. I’ve seen pictures of a Russian celebration with bright folk dresses and flower wreaths worn with warm shawls and boots. I’ll have to go look it up.

I looked it up. It’s a pre-Lenten festival when people say good-by to winter and hello to spring and eat bliny (or blini). It’s sometimes called a butter festival — like Shrove Tuesday, where you use up all the rich things you won’t be eating during Lent and eat Shrove pancakes. It’s apparently not unusual for Russians celebrating the return of spring to be standing cheerfully in knee-deep in snow.

This season is a great excuse for another warm winter plaid or a nice gray wool — some of us liked the silver gray colonial dress because we feel that gray, like green, is an under-appreciated color in the doll world. Then there’s winter white — but why do I feel you already have a dozen ideas buzzing in your well-organized head and twice that many lovely fabrics filed in orderly stacks, ready to sew?

    1. Hi Marilyn and thank you SO much for your information! You are my reference person and I know what you say it true!
Winter has just started, we’ve not had any snow yet, lots of rain, and I’m already thinking of Spring!!! Anyone else?

3 of the 5 comments want Kirsten to be next with some kind of winter dress set so I’ll go with that and be thinking about it…
I’ll have to see what I have to meet your “expectations!”
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. We stayed home and cooked and baked, We have a family diner today. I used to enjoy going out after Christmas but you did it for me,Never enough storage containers.

    1. HI Jan,
I did some more baking last night myself… there’s never enough time to get it all done before Christmas…
You are SO right about never having enough containers… I like to be organized and they help so much!
      Thanks Jan,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. I hope Kirsten will get a mid-winter dress…I’ve been waiting for something to show up for her..she is my dear one.

By the way, I liked your purchases..not boring at all!

    1. HI Jane,
Well, your wish just came true…Kirsten will be the first one up for the new year! She’ll have something warm and wintry looking…
Hang on and she’ll be up soon…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Jeanne, not going anywhere except church today, too rainy and blah out. I am inside with all the cheery Christmas lights on and going through my American Girl doll outfits, good grief, what an amazing amount I have! I don’t quite know how I seemed to get this much! I’m trying to make a spreadsheet of all the outfits so I can keep track.

Those containers you bought look really nice for putting this and that in, which you probably know what I mean by “this and that”! I need more of those too, but now my problem is where to put those?

I too, think an outfit for Kirsten should be your next one. You do a wonderful job on outfits for her! Actually I have never seen anyone outdo you with Kirsten outfits!

    1. HI Linda,
The plus about “sewing” for the dolls is you sell all your clothes instead of collecting them, but the bad part is, you want every doll out there to “model” your clothes… Have fun sorting all your things out! :o)

I’m sure I’ll find just the right things to put in the containers…

Kirsten will be up next and you had a part in picking her!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. So, I just got an update from AG and their AG of the year is coming out very soon. The sneak peeks look very interesting.
My find at Joann’s was an Olfa folding cutting mat. Unfolded, it is 12X17 but fits in a tote bag. I’m always cutting little things on the couch, so this will be handy. On clearance for 19.97 (have no idea if that was a good price or not) but with that 20% off I figured, why not. I love their Art Bin boxes. I have been trying to organize (mini steps) and now have most of my dolly shoes in divided boxes. Those larger boxes with handles do look tempting! And it was not crowded at all.

  6. Hi Joy,
You got my curiosity up and I had to go check out the new AG doll… Lea Clark. I didn’t read her story but saw her… I do like her long hair… Are you getting her? I don’t think I will be.

Your cutting mat sounds nice… I have a couple of them and they are pretty handy. I’m wanting to get a new cabinet/buffet/dresser/island/storage piece of furniture to use as my cutting table and hope it has some drawers or spaces to use them in…we’ll see…
    Thanks Joy,
    Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Thanks for getting me out of the house today to check out the boxes you and Joy found on sale. Big dinners two nights in a row is enough cooking. I checked out the BIG Joann’s, found an ornament box with three layers which was strong enough for fabric pieces and a box for thread, $20 for the two on sale with a 20% off coupon, which would have been $50 regular price. Then went to the other Joann’s, three miles in the other direction, and found the double-sided box Joy mentioned for shoes. Great find that I’m sure I wouldn’t have thought of. Love reading the Blog and getting such good ideas. Thanks for the tips.

Suemae and Rakhi both loved the scarves and, of course, I wear mine and it keeps me warm enough to even save on the heating bill !!! Thanks.

    1. HI Susette,
I’m glad you found some bargains at Joann’s today! It sounds like you’ll be organized in no time!!! I have that double sided case and hadn’t thought of doing doll shoes in it…I might switch out my embroidery thread and put shoes in it…

Thanks for letting me know the girls loved their scarves…and I’m glad to help out with the heating bills! :o)
      Blessings, Jeanne

I didn’t think your purchases were boring at all, Jeanne! I particularly liked the pink print fabric, and the lavender yarn is almost exactly the same color as our bridesmaids’ dresses at our wedding, almost 42 years ago!! My favorite color….
