~ Music Lessons ~ Civil War Dress for American Girl Addy or Rebecca…

Well, it’s official… I broke my streak of consecutive posts! Yesterday was the first day I missed posting since August 1st 2014! I had written 773 posts without missing a day and it sort of felt funny not to have a post go on Sunday, but I know I made the right decision about keeping my Sunday’s free.

If you haven’t seen it already, I did get Rebecca’s Civil War dress finished AND listed on Ebay on Saturday evening. It was the first time I had used my new lights in my sewing room and I think my pictures turned out pretty nice! I’m still waiting on my cutting table…but I took the pictures in the place where it will be, so it was a pretty good test to see how it will all work out…

Want to see what it looked like when I took the pictures? This is just temporary, but you can see how it worked…

[If you click on any picture it will enlarge, or you can just see them in the Ebay listing… the link is at the bottom.]

This is what YOU saw…

I tried my best to find some kind of musical instrument…a violin, a tambourine, anything, but couldn’t find a thing, so I just went with some sheets of music…

cimg4555

Also, I thought some of you might like to see what the dress looked like on Addy too. So I changed her into the dress just for you!

Addy’s braids are quite fat so her bonnet doesn’t fit as close to her face as it does on Rebecca.

If you want to check out the Ebay listing, you can click on the picture at the right sidebar and it will take you to the listing or you can click HERE and be transported there.

One more thing… my CONTACT ME page (at the top, just under my header) had a broken link the other day and a few ladies tried to get in touch with me but were unsuccessful. Somehow I fooled around enough with it and guess I fixed it, because now it’s working.

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. It certainly WAS different to open my email yesterday morning and not find your blog! I am firmly with you that you need a day off, Jeanne, so don’t worry. I can’t see how you have kept it up everyday without a break! I know I couldn’t do that! It is just so nice to have your blog and the little circle of friends that comment on it to look forward to each day. Thank you for that!

Rebecca and Addy look so sweet! I absolutely love the petticoat! Have you ever made one like that before? The whole outfit is just adorable and that is an eye opener as to how you took the pictures! So, an Ott lamp is not your normal table lamp and is used for photography purposes? Your pictures are so clear! So, is this a new “staging” area for the dolls? It certainly works very well.

I guess your weather was just as beautiful as ours was Saturday and yesterday too! I’m sure the wedding turned out just fine, and I was thinking of what a gorgeous day it was for a wedding, although the ground was damp from the wet weather previously. Wasn’t the low humidity great?

    1. Hi Linda,
It was kind of strange to not have a post show up on Sunday morning, but I’ll be here the rest of the time.
I’m glad you like Rebecca’s new crinoline and no, I’ve never made one like that before, but it turned out really sweet and it holds her dress out almost as well as the boned crinolines do.

I guess I’ll spill the beans…my hubby is making me a sort of “murphy bed” fold up table that will fit down in that lower slot on the oak dresser. Yes, I use the Ott lights for my pictures. I still need to tweak the distance I get from the doll and the height too…
Saturday was beautiful and actually so was Sunday…just a bit warmer…
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. You’ve made a very charming dress for Rebecca/Addy/whomever. Will your doll be a guest musician somewhere? Thanks for sharing the loveliness, Jeanne.

    Blessings.

    1. Hi Becky,
I guess Rebecca is just going to be singing a solo if she gets the part in the play. Thank you so much for your sweet compliments.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. What a beautifully complete ensemble. It looks great on both dolls, bringing out the lighter colors in the print on Rebecca and the darker ones equally well on Addy. It’s a great lesson in color values depending one’s skin tones. Addy might feel slighted that she’s not on the eBay listing also.

The petticoat is amazing. I’ll have to work up to that. I remember them and a dress for a dance that my mother made to my design with all those net ruffles, if you can believe it in red. Yikes! What was I thinking at 14 years of age. Oh, my mother’s patience!

    1. Hi Susette,
I had already taken my pictures of Rebecca for the listing on eBay when I realized some people might like to see Addy in the dress as well. So she got a little bit of time in front of the camera but not enough to be on eBay. Thank you so much for your sweet compliments. I bet your dress was as sweet as could be. 🙂
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Jeanne, the Civil War outfit is just lovely and the detail is perfect for the dress and bonnet. It looks great on both Addy and Rebecca. Another beautiful creation by Jeanne Marie.
I’ve missed writing comments lately as I’ve been pretty busy, but I at least read your blogs everyday day at some point. This week looks the same but I just have to comment on your Civil War dress and Anne Johnson’s poem from the other day. Anne, it was fabulous and so clever!! What talent you have!!

And I agree with the girls, Jeanne, your blog has been so much fun and the readers are a nice group of girls and so interesting too.

    1. Hi Paula,
Thank you so much for your sweet comments about Rebecca’s new Civil War dress. It was so nice to be back in my sewing room again sewing on doll clothes instead of big people clothes.
I’m glad you liked Anne”s poem as much as I did. I just loved it and thought it was so clever.

I’m glad you enjoy visiting with the other ladies here on my blog.
      Blessings, Jeanne

    1. PS I completely forgot to compliment Anne J’s on her poem.. that was just to cute loved reading it and I’m so glad you shared it Jeanne

      1. I sent Jeanne a picture of a panel I saw at a fabric store that has Singer sewing machines on it. Nothing cutesy, just six or eight antique machines. If you’re interested, maybe Jeanne could forward it to you. I think I remember you have or had a collection of old machines.

      2. Thank you Ingrid, for your sweet thoughts about my new Civil War dress and also about Anne’s poem. I just knew everyone would enjoy that as much as I did.
        Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Just curious, but were you using the Ott lights in your previous set up? Might just be me, but seeing shadows and green tones on Rebecca. Just wondering if it is the lights. I would love to have a place to photograph. Have no idea what type of lighting might be needed though.
Love that bonnet and wonderful slip. The music sheets add such a special touch. I read your ebay story and it is lovely.

    1. Hi Joy,
Ott lights aren’t necessarily photo lights but they show the truest color of fabrics I have seen. I am still working on my “picture” area so hopefully it will even get better.
Thank you so much for your thoughts and your compliments on the dress set.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. This is a charming Civil War outfit no matter who wears it, Jeanne. The lovely tiered petticoat defines the shape of the dress nicely, but it’s a shame not to see it, it’s so pretty! I’m sure you were pleased to get this ensemble listed after your short “sabbatical” from eBay. But your design talent and sewing skills have definitely remained “undiminished,” and I hope you will be rewarded with a very fine sum for this inaugural outfit from your new “Dressmaker” studio!

I trust your first blog-less Sunday was restful and relaxing, Jeanne. Wishing you many more beautiful sabbath days.

P.S. Hope we will hear a little bit about the wedding!

    1. Thank you Anne,
You are so kind in complimenting me on my doll dresses…thank you very much.
It did feel nice as I sewed in my new room. I could really feel it was making things go along very efficiently.
Rebecca said she’ll let me know when some wedding pictures are available…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Just getting to this before dinner. It’s been a gorgeous day here- mid 70’s with a breeze. I really enjoyed Anne’s poem the other day. I would be another perfect touch in your sewing studio with a picture of your daughter Rebecca beside it.
Rebecca looks beautiful in her new dress.. The bonnet matches perfectly and really makes the whole ensemble. I just love those Civil War bonnets. The petticoat is fantastic and adds that all important fullness. The dress looks charming likewise on Addy. What an honor Rebecca and Addy got to share by having the first dress in the new studio. Maybe you should frame a picture of this dress like people do with the first dollar they make in business.

    1. HI Laura,
It was nice to sew a Civil War dress for my first dress in my new sewing studio. I could tell a difference in my room too…it just seemed calmer and more efficient when I was looking for something.
I just saw some pictures of Rebecca in her bridesmaid dress… she looked beautiful if I do say so myself! I’ll share them as soon as she figures out how to get them transferred to my phone.
Yes, wasn’t Anne’s poem just the sweetest thing the other day? I think I’ll have to frame it…
      Blessings, Jeanne
