More from Molly and ? in the kitchen…

It seems that everyone enjoyed seeing the doll coats I showed on Friday and Saturday. There were a few of you who told me about favorite coats you wore back in the day… That made me smile! :o) I wish I could tell you I found time to get in my sewing room and whip up a new coat for one of my girls. Truth is, I’m up to my eyeballs in trying to get my mom’s files sorted out, so I’m going to have to “extend” the pictures of Molly in the kitchen. Linda said it was this coat on Ebay, all those many years ago, that led her to my doll clothes… She even remembered there was a dress that went with the set. I thought you all might like to see who was in the kitchen with Molly back in 2008 AND 2009! I’ll have to fill you in on the story!

Here’s Molly’s coat again, in a few more pictures…

You REALLY should click on the pictures and see these enlarged… it’s much better. I didn’t know about cropping back in 2008! ugh!

Want to see who was in the kitchen with her?

It was Kit! Oh, and did anyone notice the WEATHER outside the kitchen window? Did you see the snowman?

This was what it looked like in my listing on Ebay back in 2008…

It’s a good thing I’ve kept all my Ebay notebooks with dates, and who bought what, and what was included and what the story line was etc.
Here’s the story on this… I DID make the coat and beret and then the dress and the hair bow to match and DID have the pictures listed in the Ebay auctions… Yes, I had them listed in 2 different auctions… Molly’s tweed coat sold on November 13, 2008 for $36.67. The dress was listed in a separate auction, but unfortunately it didn’t sell. Apparently, I put that dress back for a while because I found it relisted on January 20th, 2009! This time it DID sell.. for $26.00…and the shipping was FREE! :o)

So there you have it…the rest of the story!! :o)

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Well, for goodness sakes, why in the world did I think those prices were too high for me, Jeanne? They sound very reasonable to me now! Of course, back then, I was very new to doll collecting, and didn’t really know what I was doing, but I really did love that coat for Molly! AG never did make Molly a winter coat, although she did have that red raincoat, but she lives in Chicago, and that won’t cut it there………..or here! I wound up getting her a red coat, very cute, but I would rather have gotten yours.
I don’t seem to see you using Molly’s Scenes and Settings anymore, do you still have it? I believe you mentioned to Laura you were looking at some on Ebay. Do you plan on getting more of them?
I can’t wait to see who is next up for a new dress or maybe a coat??
Is anyone getting cabin fever now that we have been stuck in this arctic pattern for what seems like forever? And more cold coming later in the week with possible snow! I loved that pretty Christmas Eve snowfall we had, but this cold is ridiculous!

    1. HI Linda,
There will hopefully be more coats in the future to bid on… can’t guarantee the prices next time, but…. :o)
I sold all my scenes and settings books for the girls, but I’ve been looking at them again… I’m wondering about them… hmmm again… :o)
I’m sorting in my sewing room today and trying to decide who will be next. I have a few things in mind, but want to make sure… :o) again…

I’ve had cabin fever, but trying to make the most of it… George went out to do some errands… I opted to stay home… smart move!
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

    1. Thanks Laureen,
I’m glad you like Kit’s dress. It wasn’t as long as it looks in my pictures…it’s just the angle of my camera.
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. I love this outfit. It’s perfect and does remind me of the suit I had. The dress is darling as well and can’t believe it didn’t sell. You didn’t have as many followers then or it certainly would have. So glad you found and posted it. You know you live in Southern California when the Joann’s doesn’t even carry light-weight wool fabric. I wanted to make a little coat a while back and couldn’t even find any at M&L. Thanks, Linda, for jogging the memory and Jeanne for finding and posting it.

It was 0 degrees in WV yesterday where my grandchildren live! It’s embarrassing to tell the temperatures here when so many people are suffering such cold and having such heating bills, so I won’t. My sympathies.

    1. Hello Susette, and Happy New Year to you! I’m smiling reading about your reluctance to disclose the temperature in your fine location. I do not want to make light of those who are truly suffering in the cold, but we can be glad that you (and Joy?) are enjoying the warmth of California. Perhaps some nice picture of your beautiful garden can cheer us!

Also, after sharing my post with my daughter, she suggested that you try the website “fabric.com” for some light-weight wool fabric. I’m sure you could find some there. The filters on the left side have choices for fabric type, fiber content, and weight. Good luck!

      1. Hi Anne,
Good suggestions for looking for winter fabrics… fabric.com is great…
        Thanks Anne,
        Blessings, Jeanne

    2. HI Susette,
That’s okay…SOMEONE has to have nice weather… so we can all complain about ours! Not really, but it sure would be nice to have a warm day… :o)
Soak up a few rays for the rest of us, Susette,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. That dress on Kit is just the cutest little thing. Love it. I can see one of the LD’s in something similar. Or maybe a sister set.
I’ve heard that more unsettled weather is coming possibly in your direction. Spring should be something this year after all of the extended cold. We’re waiting for rain tomorrow, and it can’t come any sooner.
Have a cup of hot chocolate and enjoy!

    1. Oh Joy,
I keep thinking of sister sets, and they keep getting pushed out of my head…
Spring certainly will be welcomed this year… Alba and Edgar and Sara went back to Columbia, for a month but will be home in about 2 weeks… They won’t want to come back when they realize how cold it is…
Hot chocolate sounds wonderful… I actually have some Columbian Hot Chocolate! :o)Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. The coat and dress are both darling. I can’t believe they sold for such low prices! I’m totally in love with the kitchen. It’s a great backdrop but I mean the kitchen itself. I can imagine that kitchen full sized and in my house! I have a yellow kitchen but it isn’t quite as cute as your backdrop kitchen. So, thanks for the inspirations both sewing and home decor.
Hope you have a good day.
    Take care.

    1. HI Charlotte,
I always liked this kitchen scene too… I think it’s adorable and it was fun to use for Molly when I had it.
I’m having a good day sorting things out in my sewing room… in my WARM sewing room… the sun is shining in along with a little heater I have running! :o)
Hope your day is warm too!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Dear Jeanne, what lovely outfits! I echo what Joy said. Do think about making a similar outfit for the Little Darlings.
    Blessings for the day.

    1. HI Dorothy,
When I realized I had never made a coat for the Little Darlings, I did start thinking about drafting a coat pattern for them… I really should have done that already! They would be cute in coats! :o)
      Thanks so much Dorothy,
      Blessings to you too, Jeanne

  6. Sometimes I think you should just begin re-making some of your best designs, but that would mean fewer new designs. We are back to cloning, and then George would have to build an auxiliary sewing room. I guess you are going to have to do as you please. So far that’s worked very well for all of us.
Paperwork. Boring but essential, and it’s going to be good to get it out of the way. I’ll go do some too and know I’m in good company. Stay warm and safe.

    1. HI Marilyn,
My partner for the paperwork left to go do some errands, so I’m working on more fun stuff, my sewing room… I’m trying to get it all sorted out… I realized I’ve never shown pictures of it when I was all finished in there… not that I’ll ever be ALL finished, but somewhat organized… I’m working on laces right now… and getting inspired for new outfits as I see the different laces in my stash… :o)
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. I agree with Marilyn about re-making some of your best designs. Molly’s coat is so cute and perfect for that era. Also Kit looks darling in the dress she’s wearing. You have such an eye for the all the styles. These two outfits are so perfectly adorable.
Someone asked about the background you have behind Molly and Kit. Is that Molly’s house? I have two scene books but they been stored and I haven’t used them at all yet. Now that I have my doll room organized I can’t wait to use them. That is one thing I wish American Girl would produce, more back ground scenes. I realize they cater to children but even children would appreciate the feel of a background in their playing. One year I got a really neat kitchen for the Barbies. It wasn’t Mattel kitchen and I sure had did fun with it than using kleenex boxes for various the Barbie furniture.
    Have a great day !

    1. HI Paula,
Yes, that is Molly’s background book… I am like you, I wish they would produce more scenes too… I love a good background and have found myself looking at the books again lately… silly woman! I had all 5 and sold them about 3 years ago… mostly because I thought they were too big… silly woman… a second time!
Who knows… maybe one will be in my future again…
      Thanks Paula,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. The coat/hat and dress are just so cute on the AG dolls. The colors reflect how cold one can feel in this arctic weather. One would get blue pretty fast out there!

    Blessings.

    1. HI Becky,
Thanks for the kind compliments on my doll outfits. Yes, I’m afraid blue “lips” would set in pretty quickly out there today. The sun is shining but it’s still only 21 degrees…that’s why I stayed home and George went to town! He’s a man… I’m a wimp! :o)
      Thanks Becky,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. Soooo cute! Why not save yourself some time and re make those two items!
They are just precious, cute, darling, beautiful! Can’t think of any more adjectives…?
    Perfect for these cold temps!

    1. Thank you Kathie,
I think I do still have that navy daisy dress fabric… not so sure about the coat fabric, but I might! :o) I need to make something with “legs” in it… a snow suit maybe! :o)
      Thanks Kathie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. What a perfectly charming and coordinated dress-and-coat set, Jeanne. Perhaps you might consider a making a new set “a la” Molly’s and Kit’s original. It seems you might have quite a few buyers. 😉 A little fashion show is sure to make us smile, even with the cold temperatures! My heart is already warmer viewing your lovely designs again after my long absence. Stay warm, everyone!

    1. HI Anne,
I have been working in my sewing room…organizing my laces today… maybe I should switch to my winter fabrics next to see what inspires me for the next dress set… or coat set…or pants set… something warm at least!
Nice to have you back in the mix, Anne!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  11. Jeanne, after reading all the other ladies suggestions, they all seem to think another coat and dress set would be nice. I don’t think you remember, but when I was a girl, (no you WON’T remember!), we would wear matching coat, hat and leggings sets. The leggings were made out of the same fabric as the coat, and hat. That might be cute! A little matching dress underneath would be darling too, and you could sell them individually or together, like you did with Molly and Kit’s outfits.
By the way, did you pose that blue coat in front of the outside of her house? It seems that that is how I remember it, not so much in the kitchen.

    1. Hi Linda,
I know what you mean about the coat and leggings being out of the same fabric. I think I posted a picture from that vintage pattern book I got the other day. It was like that. I also have seen some in my 1944 sears catalog.
I may have taken a picture of Molly outside in front of her house….but I didn’t see any in this grouping of pictures.
I’m glad you enjoyed the coat pics…
      Blessings, Jeanne
