A little more done on Felicity’s dress…but now you’ll have to guess the rest!

I DID find time to work on Felicity’s dress today and I hope you’re going to love the way it’s looking. I am! She is such a pretty doll and it’s been a shame she’s been standing behind Elizabeth and Molly for over 5 months…bad me! Bad me!

CIMG2341

I added a bit of a peplum to her bodice and now it will be an official Caraco jacket worn over her petticoat. I like the appearance of the Caraco jackets…as they are super feminine looking to me. Felicity wears this one very well. There is still plenty to do and I won’t be able to get it finished tomorrow, but bit by bit, it’s getting there.

Normally a Caraco jacket opened up in the front, or laced up, but I did a faux opening and will have it close in the back with snaps…

CIMG2352

Her petticoat is very full and gathered to a narrow waistband that will close with a strip of velcro to make sure it fits the winner’s doll’s waist. It isn’t hemmed yet, so it will be slightly shorter, or you can have it sit lower on your dolls waist and have it touch the ground.

Our son, Kristoffer came over this afternoon and helped my hubby with a lady’s car from church…it was a brake job and they were grimy guys! BUT, Kristoffer still found time to make dinner (while I sewed) and was it ever delicious. My picture isn’t anything great, but just wanted to give him credit for dinner… Steak Stroganoff with a creamy sauce that he made from scratch… no cream of mushroom soup here… cream, portabella mushrooms, and sour cream. Let me tell you…it was DIVINE!

My hubby was calling Kristoffer Chef Ramsey… I don’t care for that guy too much…but I think Kristoffer could hold his own in the kitchen with him!

And last up, Don’t forget Kirsten’s dirndl ends this evening on Ebay at 8:36 p.m. Illinois Central time zone. You can see the listing if you click HERE…or you can click on the top picture at the right side bar. Hope to see someone from here “at the finish line!”

See you tomorrow,

  1. Felicity’s dress is looking so pretty! That girl’s color is green! I had never heard of a caraco jacket before, and now I have, thank you. They are very flattering with the long skirts. I can’t help to think that they’d look great with modern day leggings, no? (just kidding!)
Your son is wonderful to have around. Does he work as a chef? Even though it’s only 7 am, I am now hungry for dinner. Your photos reminded me of one of my favorite dishes that my mom used to make, beef stroganoff. Yum!
Have a great day, Jeanne. It’s a rainy morning here, but should improve–very hot and humid though.

    1. HI Cindy,
I’m late getting to everyone’s comments today. We had friends visiting from out of town.
I like the caraco jackets with the skirts on the Colonial dolls. It doesn’t matter if the skirts are the same fabric or not… I just like that look on the dolls.
They might look good with some leggings,… only maybe a bit updated in looks… (?) who knows.
No, Kristoffer doesn’t work as a chef, but he sure loves to cook. I wish my pictures could have done his dish justice, but they didn’t. You’ll just have to trust me, it was good!
It was 92 when we got home a little while ago and super humid here too… the dog days of summer are upon us!
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. Actually I do work part time at A local 5 star restaurant. My Mother must have forgot that in her old age :D. It happens lol

        1. Oops, sorry son…I forgot about Tom’s! He’s right…he helps out at a restaurant in a nearby town…
Blame it on my old age…after all I’ll be 60 in 2 months!
It was a wonderful dish Kristoffer…
          Love you, Mom

  2. No Jeanne this morning. Had to go back to find you.:(
The dress is looking so fashionable. As I was scrolling slowly down, it stopped on the 2nd photo and showed just Felicity’s eyes and a bit of hair. Really accentuated her very green eyes.
And the stroganoff! Looks delicious. We’re going to bbq tri tip tonight. It’s very warm here and perfect for outdoor cooking. Add in a cold artichoke/rice salad and lemon cake.
    Have a nice Sunday.

    1. HI Joy,
I’m sorry everyone seems to be having some difficulties with getting my blog posts lately. My webmaster, Sarah, got back in the states a few days ago and I spoke with her at church this morning, and told her about the issues everyone is having. I hope she can give me a quick fix on what’s wrong.
I definitely think Felicity looks beautiful in the greens… as Cindy suggested, it’s definitely her color. Thank you very much for your compliments on the dress so far.
Your food for tonight sounds yummy too…
      Thanks Joy,
      blessings, Jeanne

  3. Beautiful dress, Jeanne. I am loving it so much. The shade of green is so soft looking and summery. It looks great on Felicity.
Kristoffer’s dinner looks scrumptious. I’m hungry and my fruit and nut bar with coffee isn’t so appealing now!! hah!!
    Have a nice restful Sunday!

    1. HI Paula, and thank you so much for your compliments on Felicity’s dress. She does look very pretty in it with her green eyes and red hair. I’m glad the green was picked for her dress!
Kristoffer’s stroganoff was over the top if you ask me… almost as good as his chicken alfredo! He certainly can hold his own in the kitchen.
We just got home from visiting with friends in from out of town, so my day of rest probably isn’t going to happen today!
      Thanks Paula,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Like Joy, I once again had no post from you today and needed to pull a former post out of my deleted mail to use to find today’s blog. Need to get my daily Jeanne Marie fix!

What a lovely beginning for Felicity’s Caraco jacket outfit!. The soft colors are perfect for hot summer days, and they are so flattering with Felicity’s eye and hair coloring. I love the fitted waist. She looks very sweet and feminine. But the best part is still to come — the “story,” complete with embellishments and accessories! Can’t wait to see the full reveal.

Cindy read my curious mind, as I, too, am wondering if Kristoffer is a trained chef. Your children seem to possess so many talents, but your son’s skills in the kitchen far surpass the average, and you are blessed to have him! Add me to the list of other readers who are now hungry for supper! Since I assume that Kristoffer wouldn’t consider coming to Ohio to prepare his stroganoff, perhaps he wouldn’t mind if you share another recipe? ; ) Maybe Kristoffer could start a daily cooking blog? YUM!

Hope you enjoy a relaxing Sunday, Jeanne!

    1. HI Anne,
I’m so sorry everyone has been having troubles with getting my blog posts lately. I spoke with my webmaster this morning and she said she’d check into it. You can always google https://www.idreamofjeannemarie.com and my latest post will come up.

Thank you for your kind comments on Felicity’s dress set this time. Yes…the “story” still yet to come… I hope it will be fun!

No Kristoffer is not a chef, trained or otherwise…he just likes to cook. It’s always nice for me when he does…that gives me extra time to sew in between kitchen visits with him. He just learned on his own and is really good at it. He just knows what goes together.
I’ll have to tell him of your request for the recipe for his stroganoff and of the cooking blog. That would make him smile I think.
Well, my Sunday hasn’t been exactly relaxing as we’ve been with out of town friends, but it has been nice!
      Thank you so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. You got a big sigh and a “Wonderful” from me for Felicity’s Caraco jacket. I had not heard of that type of jacket either. I’ll look it up for sure. It’s lovely, the colors are great on Felicity and the necklace is perfect with it. I have some tiny grommets left from the St. Patrick’s Day jacket, so . . . Inspiration!

Kristoffer’s beef stroganoff looks very good. I used to make it for my family, but I was just on the Internet this morning looking up recipes for Chicken Marsala as a substitute. My daughter-in-law is Hindu (no beef for sure) and they are coming to visit soon. The mushrooms and cream sauce will remain the same and be very tasty. Cheers for a man who cooks so well!

    1. HI Susette,
The Caraco jackets are so pretty I think. So flattering and feminine looking. Many times the jackets were laced up but most times they were left plain…I’m still deciding.

Yum… Chicken Marsala is a favorite of mine…I hope yours turns out well… now you’ve made my mouth water!
      Thanks so much Susette,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Felicity’s jacket and petticoat are beautiful. The Colonial styles, along with Victorian/ Edwardian and Civil war are so feminine, really my taste all the way. The solid petticoat and print jacket remind me of her PC set, but the soft green is so becoming. I hope to make a set for my Felicity from her patterns sometime.
You asked about the mini ball jars. They aren’t actually “Ball” jars, but little glass jars that have a silver lid and hold about 2 ounces. I saw them a few months ago in the scrap booking section of all things. You could also use the little sampler jars like I’ve seen at World market before.
How nice Kristoffer cooked for you so that you could sew and still sit down to a home cooked meal.

    1. HI Laura,
I think it’s clear if you and I could have lived in another time period it would be in the Civil War or the Colonial times… mainly because of the dresses, right? :o)

I bought a little glass jar at Hobby Lobby but I think I’m going to take it back…I think it’s a little too big for a jelly jar… maybe I’ll look at Joann’s again or The Party Store.

It was nice that Kristoffer cooked while I sewed… got an extra few minutes of time in on Felicity’s dress.
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Hi Jeanne,
I think Felicitys new dress is just perfect. Greens are really her color for sure. As it so happens I have a lovely older Felicity in need of a new dress : D
Dinner looks so yummy! What a great son you’ve got there. He will make someone a wonderful hubby someday. Hope your Sunday is a lovely one.
    Ingrid

    1. HI Ingrid,
Thanks so much for your sweet compliments on Felicity’s dress. I know of “someone” who’ll be listing a Felicity dress in a few days! :o) (Sorry I couldn’t resist!) :o)

Dinner WAS yummy… it was one of those dishes you just didn’t want to quit eating…
He will certainly be able to help in the kitchen… I know someone who can’t cook a thing… I mean a thing! So he eats cereal when his wife is away… silly man needs to learn how to cook…
My Sunday was lovely visiting with old friends…
      Blessings to you Ingrid,
      ~ Jeanne

  8. I’m finally able to get on here! I’m having trouble with my computer, and just every so often, it will not let me read your blog, well, it won’t scroll down, so all I see is the very first couple of sentences. But it is my computer doing that, so Jeanne, don’t think it has something to do with your end of it.

Oh, how lovely Felicity looks! I’m another one who has never heard of a caraco jacket, and was wondering how you closed it in the front so neatly, but it closes in the back? Are you doing any embellishments on it in the front? It certainly doesn’t need much! The colors are just so pretty and cool looking for Felicity.

So is she wearing anything on her head? A pretty straw bonnet trimmed with strawberries would be perfect!

That son of yours—-he ought to open a restaurant! Between him and Rebecca, you are one lucky mama!!

    1. HI Linda,
I spoke with Sarah at church today and she’s going to look into what might be causing people to not get my blog posts regularly. I hope it’s just some minor setting that needs to be turned on.
Thanks so much for your sweet words about Felicity’s dress. I made a sort of box pleat in the front and then fused it down on the wrong side so it can’t go anywhere. I’m still trying to decide about embellishing it. Most of the times they were left plain, but some were laced up the front. It’s too late to put eyelets in it, so if I laced it up it would have to be freehand stitching…
Yes, she’ll have something on her head… but I’ll surprise you…
I’m more than a lucky mama…I’m truly blessed with my kids. I’ll have to send this post to Kristoffer so he can have a “big head” for a few minutes while he reads everyone’s comments about his cooking! :o)
      Thank you Linda…
Thanks too , for filling us in on the Wellie Wishers… I’ve read a few more reviews… and still like Willa the best…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. What a nice day you had, seeing friends, making progress on Felicity’s dress, having dinner prepared for you and delicious besides.
I’m having no unusual problems with your blog, so I’m feeling lucky. I usually put in your URL, get a nice brocaded blank screen, scroll to the bottom and start back up, and the last 3 posts appear, in reverse order, of course, since I’m going backwards. It’s always fun to see the dresses from beginning to where they are that day. About one time in 30, the post appears and I don’t have to scroll. Yesterday was one.
Felicity’s dress is lovely. It looks so cool and neat. I like the texture of the green fabric. It was nice to have the necklace done early. I’m looking forward to her hat. You trim colonial hats so beautifully.
I think this week will be in the high 80’s here, which means gardening has to be done very early. The early mornings are often the prettiest part of the day, so I’m not going to feel bad about that. After 8 years of retirement, I still find it lovely to be able to work at my house and not be on a 5:30 am bus.

    1. HI Marilyn,
It seems like quite a few ARE having troubles and I hope to get them figured out soon. It seems like you have the kinks, if any, worked out so they don’t affect you too much.
Thank you for your sweet comments on Felicity’s dress. I think it may turn out to be the prettiest one ever ON her… she looks exceptional in these colors. In person, she’s exquisite!
I won’t give any hints about the rest of what will accompany Felicity’s outfit so there will be some “surprise” to it all when it’s all finished.
We got home today after 5:00 and it was 92 still at that time. Too hot for me! Summer just started and I’m already done with the hot weather.
Have fun gardening… early in the mornings…
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne
