Molly’s Rick Rack Redo… and a Surprise Award…

Before my sister got in town today, I managed to get the “uneven” rick rack removed from Molly’s navy polka dotted dress, and the “even” rick rack sewn on. I moved it up closer to the neck edge and left a smaller space between the two colors. I stitched it on by hand so I had more control of where to place it. It looks very straight in person… I like it much better this way…

Here’s the way it looked yesterday…

…and then today…

I added the skirt section to the bodice and it’s no secret… there has to be a slip for it… So today, while I was in town, I stopped at Joann’s and picked up this piece of sparkly tulle… If Molly’s going to have new slip, it might as well sparkle…

CIMG2734

I tucked the tulle up under her dress and I think it will work out just fine…

I do have enough fabric to make a sash with a pre-tied bow in the back.

If there’s any left over I’ll maybe use it for some kind of trim for a hat, or headband or other hair accent…

It won’t take long to get this one finished up… Hang in there with me while I’m visiting with my sister… we’re going shopping tomorrow and who knows what else!

Oh… one more thing… I got a Dolly Award… from Jano, on her Doll Blog Website….Hiya Dolly!
If you go to Jano’s website, just scroll down a little bit and you’ll see the awards…It was on her post for July 9th and was called Dolltown Awards Day! I’m at the bottom of the “bloggers” part…Yes, she was giving out some awards…like Best Doll Review Site, Best dolls in Natural Settings, Best Dolls on Instagram and she gave me one!!!
I got the Best Daily Doll Dressmaking Blog Award! Thanks so much Jano… my first award!

Well, I’ll try to get this “big head” of mine through my bedroom door and go to bed… but it’ll be hard! :o)

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Looks good, Jeanne! I really like that you moved the two rows of rickrack closer to each other, in addition to having them evenly applied.

I’m glad you had enough fabric to make a sash; you must be down to little postage-stamp-sized pieces by now!! Also like the blue sprakle tulle for a petticoat.

    Have fun with your sister!

  2. I too like the sparkle tulle — it looks as if a tiny bit of sparkle shows through the skirt fabric. The neck rick rack may not have been perfectly even before, but I liked the effect and I like it now better. I’m looking forward to seeing the dress as is but entire — I’m wondering if the sash and bow should be entirely detachable, the plain waist above the full skirt looks so nice and neat. I’ll probably like it with the sash better, but it’s already looking very stylish. What buttons will you choose? I’m imagining red or white or blue.

Shopping. I hope she likes antique stores and fabrics — and Cool Spoons. Have a lovely day. We’ll see you and your purchases tomorrow. And congratulations on your award!

  3. The sweet dress is coming along wonderfully. Very pretty. The sheer material is really neat and with that beautiful netting underneath…it’s perfect.
Have a great day with your little sis (and Mom). I’d like to add as Marilyn did, antique stores, fabrics, and Cool Spoons might be involved? Enjoy yourselves.

  4. Congratulations on the Dolly Award. It’s a well-deserved honor. Feels good to be recognized for your dedication to the site.

The new Molly dress will be a favorite. My granddaughter would like to take my Molly doll home with her out of the five I have. I asked her why and she said, “I like her personality.” We’re having great fun with the dolls, setting up a house and schoolroom.

  5. So cute, Jeanne! I see that moving the rick rack closer together did wonders and really like the effect now—-a lot! If it was me, as an adult, I would want the sash detachable myself, and tie my own bow. For others, maybe not. Love the sparkly tulle for the slip! This will be one adorable outfit to wear to the fair, the circus or—-Cool Spoons!

Have fun with your sister, and e3njoy your time together. As adults with families, we don’t get to do that often enough.

Oh dear, another rainstorm coming our way this morning! You would think we are living in Seattle!

    1. Oh, my, I forgot to say congratulations on your award!!! You deserve it, and I don’t know what I would if I didn’t have your fun blog everyday!

  6. Congrats on your award! Good Job!
The dress is so cute. I was just thinking how nice it would be for Molly to have a light weight denim jacket to wear with it, if the weather changes. Love the navy tulle.
Hope you find that drawer unit for which you’ve been on the look out. It is so fun shopping for vintage.

  7. Congratulations on your award. I enjoy reading your blog each day!
Molly is looking very sweet in her new dress and I love the sparkly slip. The rick rack is very cute and colorful and adds interest to the neckline.
I’m on my way out to run some errands before the temperature heats up any more… we’re expecting 90 degrees today! Hope it’s cooler your way.

  8. The rick rack on Molly’s dress is perfection now, Jeanne! I knew you would settle for nothing less. The sparkly slip will add a special Jeanne Marie touch. Molly won’t want to take off her new dress!

As many ladies have been wondering about the restrictions in WWII fashions, I thought I would try to forward the info I found. My son was here to help me with the computer today, so I was able to attach the page (hopefully!). The maximum sweep for a woman’s dress was 198 cm, or approximately 78 inches. It is interesting to note that Limitations Order L-85 affected all clothing for both genders, including pant leg width, sleeves, lapels, collars, pockets, cuffs, belts, fabrics, trims, zippers, buttons, etc. But it was also interesting to read that unlike similar British regulations, our American restrictions were only “guidelines” and were frequently violated by the haute couture designers, as was evidenced by celebrity fashions of the time, including those for the film industry. Some wonderful design elements had their beginnings in the 1940s.

Congratulations on your award, Jeanne! Your daily blog is a pleasure to read, and you are certainly deserving of recognition for your superb dolly dressmaking. Well done!

Whatever the weather, I know you will be having a good time making memories with your sister. Hope you will share some of your adventures with us. Enjoy!

  9. What a great award for you, Jeanne! I think you more than deserve that…despite the fact that your head may grow a bit in the process. Well done.

Molly’s dress is looking so cute. You stitch, tack, snip and use ric-rac…and it always turns out so very nicely. Congrats on this upcoming dress. It will be so cute.

Take care and have a lovely time with your sister.

  10. Hi Jeanne,
Congrats on your award! How wonderful to be recognized for your blog. I’m so lucky to have stumbled across it. Everyday I look forward to reading it, I even come back later in the day to read all the comments. It truly has become a daily ritual for me.
I think Molly’s dress is so sweet. I like what you did with the ric rac. At first I thought nah I wouldn’t change it but after the redo I think it looks just lovely.
Have a awesome visit with your baby sis

  11. Thank you everyone…I probably won’t get to individual comments…as I’m having too much fun! I read all the comments…twice in fact and thank you all so much!!!
    Blessings, Jeanne
