“Lovely in Lavender” Ladies

Yesterday my hubby and I worked in our yard hauling branches and limbs to a big burn pile. Two weeks ago we had a huge tree cut down and the mess from all the chainsawing hadn’t been taken care of. It was crazy hard work…in fact, I wear a fitbit flex activity tracker on my wrist and I logged in 15,000 PLUS steps! That equals over 6 miles… I knew I was tired… (and that wasn’t all we did… he decided to spray that crud cutter sort of stuff on the vinyl siding of our house and garage to get rid of the winter dirt buildup, so we scrubbed and hosed it down too! Now it’s a lovely snow white!)

Anyway, we got the limbs and branches and sticks set to burn and lit it with gasoline and WHOOSH… it took off with flames about 20 feet high. As I was walking back and forth in the yard, I kept seeing these pretty little lavender flowers all over the place. I’m always thinking about what I can write about to keep you interested and coming back each day and these tiny flowers reminded me of all the lavender dresses I’ve made. Hence, today’s post was born!

I found some lavender “pretties” that I hope are new to some of you.

UPDATE: My neighbor just brought me a bouquet of lilacs from a huge bush they have in their yard. She had NO IDEA my blog post was on the color lavender… so I just had to add these few pictures… Aren’t they beautiful?

If you click on any picture it will enlarge somewhat.

This lavender dress on Felicity was the 5th dress I made back in 2006 when I first started selling my doll clothes.

Here’s another oldie from the archives of Samantha modeling an Easter dress that I missed showing you. My lighting is pretty poor on it.

This Regency dress on Josefina was when I was trying to get my pattern tweaked. It desperately needs a train…

Up next is Lian in a fun lavender capri set with lots of handwork using felt flowers. Doesn’t she look sweet?

Still working on that Regency dress…

Here’s one on Lanie, that I think I called a Regency dress…

My Four Season Winter Kish doll is in a pretty lavender print dress with a jacket covered with handwork in silk ribbon.

Janie, my little 13″ Dianna Effner Little Darling, is wearing a fun little lavender dress with felt flowers on the front.

… and last up is Nyssa showing off two different dresses with lavender flowers in the print.

So, I hope this brought a little Lavender Loveliness to your day today!
It’s bedtime for me!!!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, jeanne

Boy, you two have been working! It has been crazy windy here for the past two days, so I have kept inside doing things I need to do! I love being outside though when the weather is nice, and can’t wait to get my annuals in. Oh, those little violets! They are all over the place here too, but they also spread like crazy, so I have been digging them out!

Love, the lavender dresses! The one that your Winter Kish doll has on reminds me of one I made for my daughter in the 70’s. I love the little bolero type jacket with it too. The trim is beautiful! And oh, Josefina’s dress is gorgeous, the one with the black lace trim!

I had better get going here, I’m running late and have a lot to do, but so enjoy your posts each morning, Jeanne! Have a wonderful day!

    • Jeanne W says:

      Good morning Linda,
I thought they were violets, but not sure. They are way out under the trees, so I’m not “digging” mine out… I bet your yard is beautiful…
I’m glad you enjoy reading my posts each day… it’s nice to know that.
You’ll have to take a look at the new pictures I added to the top of my post… flowers, Linda!
      Have a nice day,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Love them all. 🙂

    • Jeanne W says:

      Hi Christine,
Thanks so much. I think lavender is such a pretty color on most dolls.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. What a busy day you had, Jeanne, six miles without leaving your yard! I love the lavender dresses, I noticed the pretty little silk ribbon flowers on Nyssa’s second dress, such a nice touch at the neckline.

    • Jeanne W says:

      HI Jevne,
Yes, and I’m feeling it today…although being down a pound and a half was worth it!
I always loved that dress on Nyssa. I called it Primrose Promise I think.
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Once again, I’m amazed! All are beautiful and so creative, the use of braid trim and the wonderful silk ribbon embroidery.

My question is: What do you do when trimming seam allowances to make the mandarin collar lie so flat with four layers of fabric plus the brain trim in the seam allowance on the collar of the Samantha Easter dress. The finished collar looks like there is no seam allowance material left in there at all, it lies so flat.

Where do you get the energy? Amazing!!!

    • Jeanne W says:

      Thank you Susette,
I’m glad you liked the dresses shown today!
As far as Samantha’s dress goes… I almost always line my dresses, so the collar is trimmed short and then with the lining, the collar has no where to go but stand up the way it’s supposed to. I layer my trimming too. Don’t make all the edges the same width when you trim them off….and of course clipping the curved edge helps.

Energy? I just do what needs to be done and try not to think about how tired it makes me. Blessings, Jeanne

Jeanne, seeing the lavender dresses this morning is a perfect, Good Morning !!
I have very fond memories of lavender as a child so the dresses really pushed a button with me. I especially love ruffles and gathers and those layers of ruffles on the sun dresses Nyssa is wearing. They are fun to make and fun to wear.

So onto another topic; today is Molly’s Birthday. I did finish her new dress last evening. She looks just adorable in her two tones of pink. I even made her an eyelet slip to wear under her Birthday dress. I will have to set her out so she can celebrate her Birthday and everyone make a fuss over her.

    Have a wonderful day !!

    • Jeanne W says:

      HI Jeannie,
I totally forgot about it being Molly (the AG dolls birthday), but I did remember to send a card to my niece, Molly, who is having “her” birthday today.
It would have been fun to do a post for Molly’s birthday…phooey, I forgot!
I hope YOUR Molly does get rave reviews!

I think Nyssa’s last dress is one of my favorites in the “lavender” ones.. I think she looks so sweet in it. Even with that wild hairdo I had on her.
      Thanks Jeannie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Sylvia Dockx says:

You sure were busy! Love all of the dresses! Had two favorites. The 13″ Effner is so sweet
and the 14″ kish . I love the felt looking flowers, did you make them or did you buy them.
You do such a great job at sewing and matching. Also you are a great writer. Thanks so much for taking the time to do this! I read each morning while I am finishing my coffee after breakfast.

    • Jeanne W says:

      Good morning Sylvia,
I’m glad to have you sitting at the table with lots of other ladies each morning drinking their coffee and reading about something I’ve written for the day. Thanks so much!

I think Lian’s may have been an Easter outfit, but not a dress that year. She wanted something different. The flowers are purchased…they are die cut felt flowers. It’s strange to see the dolls that I have sewn for in the past, but no longer have.
      Thanks for your kind comments,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Oh Jeanne, those dresses/outfits are spectacular and the detail is out of this world. They are all so beautiful.
I appreciate reading your blogs and despite the amount of work you do, you still manage to write us. I don’t know where you get your energy!!
Your house and yard work done yesterday must make your home and yard so beautiful.
We are having lots of wind lately. Yesterday, I could hardly push my car door open! There are some fields nearby and that makes the wind pass through us even more.

    • Hi Paula,
Thank you so much for your very kind words about my lavender doll dresses. I think it’s such a pretty color!
My neighbor just brought over some lilac’s so you’ll have to take another look at my post. I couldn’t resist a picture or two of them…
It was windy here too, but we still burned the big pile…with the hose turned on and nearby! Thanks again Paula,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Love the way you make the fabric design and the dress design match the personality of the Doll! Lian’s capri’s are too cute for words…
We did yard work yesterday too…how many nails did you break ? 🙂

    • HI Kathie,
Thanks so much for your compliments on my doll outfits. It’s fun for me as you can probably tell…
You’ll have to look at the top of my post again… my neighbor brought over some lilac’s for me and I had to put them on my post. She didn’t know today was “lavender day!”
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. Love the flowers on the neckline of Nyssa’s dress. How did you finish the edge on the flowers? Lovely work on all the dresses.

    • Jeanne W says:

      Hi Jan,
Do you mean the 1st Nyssa dress shown? The neckline has a tiny bias band like the last dress. The flowers and green part are all connected together.
If this isn’t what you mean… ask me again…
      Blessings, Jeanne

      • Yes, it is the first dress. It appears you cut individual flowers from the fabric and then I wondered about fraying. Did you fray check the edges?

        • Jeanne W says:

          Hi Jan,
Those flowers aren’t cut from the fabric…it is a roll of trim that I have that matched the fabric colors exactly. There is about an inch of green stem, then a flower, then more stem, etc all on a long roll. Hope this helps, Blessings, Jeanne

  10. Lovely ladies in lavender and lovely lilacs in the display with Scruffy!

    • Jeanne W says:

      HI Regina,
Yes, I thought Scruffy would enjoy the flowers below his pics!
Thanks for the compliments on my lavender dresses. It was fun for me to see
them all in one place too.
      Blessings, Jeanne
