Lookout Maryellen… here comes Eden in a 50’s dress set…

I am thrilled to let you know I got Eden’s dress finished and listed on Ebay. You can check it out HERE or click on the picture of it at the right side bar to be taken directly to the listing. I was a little concerned that Eden might not have that 50’s look, but I think she’ll do just fine. She pulled her hair back in a pony tail all by herself and showed me… “See, I can be from the 50’s….aren’t I cute?” So I decided she was pretty adorable and I think she’ll be my new “Fill-in Fifties Gal!”

If you missed it a few days ago, this is the 1950’s pattern that inspired me…

I used the 50’s Keepers Dolly Duds pattern as the starting point for my dress, but modified it…

There was plenty of handwork to get whole look completed.
10 buttons on the jumper, 4 sets of snaps…

CIMG2389

3 buttons on the blouse, 3 sets of snaps, bows and buckles to sew on by hand, tulle sleeve headers to sew in the sleeve caps, a heart to sew on the slip…

CIMG2397

I guess anything that looks sweet takes time…this certainly did.

I had fun making her book bag and her school supplies… Sometimes I think I missed my calling of being an Art teacher to the lower grades…I always have loved paper and scissors…and glue of course! I even made her pencils out of Shish kabob sticks…

Her teacher is going to be thrilled with that big red apple…

CIMG2375

I had these red glittery shoes and thought they would be perfect for this dress set. I hope you agree…

CIMG2400

Black and white with just a touch of red has always been one of my favorite color combinations… I hope it is yours too…
Here’s one last picture….

Oh, and some of you were concerned that my new Kuhn Rikon Pressure cooker might not look like new again… here was yesterday… with stuck on potatoes…

CIMG2307

…and here it is now… with just about 2 minutes of sloshing around a little dish detergent in hot water… good as new…

See you tomorrow,

  1. Oh, that outfit is just darling, Jeanne! Wish I was a little girl again to be able to wear something like that! Yes, I do remember those skirt/jumpers, I even had one! Everything looks so crisp and fresh, well, that’s really not surprising, that’s how your outfits always look!

Wow, that pressure cooker really cleaned up perfectly!

I’m going to Jo-Ann’s today for some tracing paper to get Felicity’s dress finished. Too hot to be doing anything outside this week, so I’ll get that dress going again, hopefully, and finish it!

    1. Thanks Linda,
I like this one too…and would have been thrilled to have worn it when I was little… I’ve always had this thing for black and white and just a touch of red accent…

Yes, my cooker is clean as a whistle. I was going to cook in it again last night, but I just decided to look at it clean for a day or two. I need to find a good cookbook with some basic recipes in it… you know…nothing complicated or with strange ingredients…

I hope the tracing paper works for you…remember to look for the paper that is sort of waxy instead of just the powdery kind… it will stick to your satin better. I hope they still make that kind…
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Eden makes a perfect 1950’s girl, Jeanne. Her new school dress is beautiful. I love all of the fun little accessories you made to fill her book bag. It’s always fun to get an outfit with those special little things.
Good luck with your auction! Cannot wait to see what you and your sewing machine whip up next!
I hope your uncle is doing better today.

    1. HI Cindy,
I think Eden will do fine…and that way, I don’t have to buy another doll! I had lots of fun coming up with those things for her school bag…it was just like I was back in grade school again, doing an art project…
I think Ten Ping is next up…then Felicity…then I’ll make something for Josefina…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. I have a feeling I am going to end up with at least one American Girl doll eventually…if for no other reason..so that I can buy some of these beyond-amazing outfits you make for them. This is absolutely my favorite…period….until I see something else I like better. You’re a star, my sweet friend!

    love 2 u and reuben

    1. HI Bobi,
Yep, if you stick around here very long, you’ll have to succumb to an American Girl doll of your own, just so you can fit in… and maybe buy a thing or two from me… *hint*hint* :o)
I’m glad you like this one Bobi… I really do too…
      Reuben says hi to you!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Good morning Jeanne,
The dress and all the goodies that come along with it are so sweet and delightful. It is just precious. Love the look of red with black and white. It is so crisp looking with her blouse. I just love it. Eden DOES look great in the 50’s style. Good match!!

Hope your uncle is doing well, Jeanne.
    Blessings!

    1. Good morning Paula,
Thanks so much for your kind words about Eden’s dress set. I really had fun making it… because I just love black and white and a little bit of red mixed in the look. I’m glad Eden fills in for a 50’s girl… now I can save my $$ for someone else… NOT!
      Thanks Paula,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Eden is a lovely fifties girl. I’ve already seen a number of other dolls in her outfits that work fine- Nellie, #21 (even with the pincurls), My daughter has put Felicity in Molly’s school jumper for years. Mom mom even had classmates who wore hair like Kit’s.
Maryellen’s collection is cute, but most of the things look like something I can replicate to some extent. We’re not getting anything at the moment, but I’m sure AG will make additional things for her over time. My daughter always wanted a fifties doll as a child , so we already have the poodle skirt outfit covered.
Eden’s jumper and book bag are just lovely. I like the black and white with red combination. It reminds me of Mary Engelbreit stuff. You did an excellent job on the school supplies also.
The sets PC/AG made for Felicity, Samantha and Kit are the ones I have and love them. Maryellen’s school supplies didn’t hit the mark IMO.

    1. HI Laura,
Thanks so much for your wonderful comments on Eden’s new dress set. I was looking to replace the Nellie that I sold with another one to use as a 50’s doll, and now I’m so thrilled that I don’t have to use her… I can just use Eden… I think her dark hair will show off things just as nicely as Maryellen’s strawberry blonde hair.
I too, wanted a 50’s doll and was so excited when I heard AG was going to come out with one. But Maryellen didn’t quite grab me like a doll has to do before I get her. It’s okay… I am perfectly fine with using Eden.
Thanks so much for your compliments on Eden’s dress. I really appreciate them…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Another winner! She seems right at home in that darling jumper and of course that fabric in the blouse is SO nice! Will be interesting to see if Mary Ellen will be a “knock you out of the park” kind of girl!
Soup sounds good in the new pressure cooker but it’s supposed to be 90 all week here…but this winter it will be awesome…makes me want to get mine out too… It’s not just for canning..my Mom used hers all the time!

    1. HI Kathie,
Thanks so much for the compliments on Eden’s new dress set.
I looked for some recipes yesterday and saw a chili one, but then decided…It’s too hot for chili… it will be good for soups though…
      Thanks,
      Blessings, Jeanne

    1. Thanks Jan,
I thought the red glitter shoes might be too much, but everyone seems to think they’re okay…
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne
