Jeanne’s Mobile Sewing….

I’m telling you, sewing is in my blood…it’s hard for me to get away from it, and I wanted to show you a few pictures of a project I finished for Deb the night before I left to come back home. Oh, by the way, thank you everyone, for carrying on even when I was mostly absent… I didn’t have much time for answering comments and wanted to thank Joy for that dance picture…it saved me again… :o)

Deb has a really wonderful stage piano and she wondered if I could make a cover for it, so little fingers wouldn’t be tempted to plunk on it and also save it from an untimely spilled drink. We went to Hobby Lobby and found a piece of decorator fabric that Deb liked and some ribbon trim to match it. It was pretty much a custom job so no pattern was involved! :o) We used an old sheet for the lining and she already had some batting for a little bit of padding across the keys. Then the decorator fabric for the top.

First we draped it across the piano to see which way we wanted the design to go… red design up or down… we decided up!

The sheet went on first, the batting next, and then the fabric on top… I bar tacked the top through all the layers to hold it in place and keep it from being too puffy…

I made box corners and finished off the edges by turning them up and stitching. Then the ribbon was added and it was the absolute perfect color. Lucy wanted to be in the picture too! :o)

Here’s a close up of the fabric…it’s really pretty in her living room…

I finished it up late Tuesday night… Deb sat and kept me company! Love my sister!

Well, that’s it… sewing follows me everywhere I go… I even fixed a coat pocket and a jeans pocket too! See, sewing is in my blood no matter what state I’m in…

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. What a nice project. You’ll enjoy it whenever you are there and Deb will enjoy it all the time.
You needed this break, and I hope your mother enjoyed it too. I’m looking forward to hearing more about it.

Wasn’t Joy’s picture just perfect? I really liked the colors. Maybe the picture will inspire the dress after the one we all hope for a picture of tomorrow — not finished, of course — but maybe with more thoughts about the accessories.

Stay well and enjoy returning to this part of your family.

    1. HI Marilyn,
I think Deb was very happy with her new piano cover… almost relieved that she didn’t have to be so careful around it…
We did enjoy our visit…all of us!
I’m hoping to get some sewing done, but so far… not yet…
Rebecca just called us and said her new Blazer was overheating, so George is going to have to go into town and see what’s up; our Craigslist ad for some “extra hens” that I made right before I left, didn’t show up, so I had to redo it this morning. Now the phone won’t stop ringing with people calling to buy them. Some lady is coming at 1-1:30 to pick them up… (hopefully), a man was supposed to come out and look at our plywood floors and suggest the right kind of flooring for “wavy” floors; my mom’s landline phone says it’s been disconnected and I’ve been on the phone about that; I was trying to help George put up a new little under the cabinet light in the kitchen and it was like the Three Stooges… couldn’t get that thing to go up for anything…

Well, I better go… more fires to put out…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. What a beautiful cover for the piano! I see another piano in the background too, are they a musical family? You certainly do have a lot of experience in sewing different projects, Jeanne, in all shapes and sizes! One wonders, what’s next for Jeanne Marie? I hope it’s a doll dress for us to ooh and ahh over!

So glad you are back home and I’m sure George and Rebecca are too!

    1. HI Linda,
Yes, Deb majored in Piano Performance and just quit her job so she can begin giving piano lessons… We were working on her business stuff this time. She’s going to make a great teacher… She’s done it before, but is really focused on how she wants to do it this time… fun, fun, fun!
There seems to be lots to catch up on so far… I hope there’s some time for sewing before the sun sets…
I’m glad to be home too…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Great sewing job, Jeanne. It’s a treat for me to see your creativity and mending accompany you wherever you are.

    Blessings.

    1. Thank you Becky,
It really wasn’t hard to make…just took a little bit of thinking so I didn’t mess up her fabric… Now I guess I can add “piano covers” to my resume! :o)
      Thanks, Jeanne

  4. You created a lovely cover. The fabric is beautiful and goes wonderfully in the living room. It must give you a good feeling being able to help others with your sewing skills.
Hope you have a good day.
    Take care.

    1. Hi Charlotte,
Deb told me next time… no sewing… but I doubt that will happen! I love to sew and she knows it, so I probably will keep doing little projects for her…
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings,Jeanne

  5. Amazing piano cover. What a great idea. With the box corners, padding, and ribbon trim, the cover just looks like it belongs. Goes so perfectly with Deb’s home. Love the fabric. The master speaks again.
Know you probably have a busy week ahead. Hope you can have at least a few minutes of time for yourself.
Wonder what the next project will be? No pressure here.

    1. Hi Joy,
Thanks for the compliments on Dad’s piano cover. It was fun to make something with just Square lines to it. The plan right now is to work some more on Nora’s Victorian dress and I sure hope there’s time in my day for that. George wants to go look at flooring again and I sure want to too!
The lady came for the hens so we have 9 less to feed now…we kept Little Bit, Curly Belle, one Cochin and a tiny little rooster. If we turn them out in the yard, George says they need a rooster to protect them, so he gets to stay…at least for now…
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. The piano cover looks great, and I’m sure your sister is tickled to have it so she doesn’t have to worry about the piano as much. I think it’s a blessing to able to serve others with our talents, and I’m sure you would agree since you are a good example of living your life that way! Glad you made it home safely!

    1. Hi Carolyn,
Yes, my sister liked her new piano cover…her piano is like my sewing machine to me! She’s pretty partial to it… actually both of her piano’s.
We all have our talents and mine just happens to be sewing… for one… and it’s what I like to do… so it works out just fine!
It’s good to be back home… YAY!
      Thanks Carolyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Welcome back, Jeanne! What a delightful “get-away” you had at Debs. Loved the “post cards” of your adventures and hope we’ll see more pictures of your trip in the days ahead. The piano cover is tailored beautifully and will accomplish its purpose of discouraging little fingers while adding some style. In your studio or on-the-go, you are happiest using your skills to help others, and so is your family. How wonderful you can all help each other and those in your community. Know you will all find a solution for your momma, too. I keep the situation in my prayers.

It sounds like you have had more than enough on your plate to keep you busy for your first day back at home! My son sometimes refers to his job as a series of “dumpster fires.” Maybe your day did’t seem that intense, but once again your energy amazes us! I’m sure George has Rebecca’s Blazer “rolling along” by now, and I hope your call with the phone company resolved your mom’s “disconnect.” I’m not sure why, but I am a little sad to hear about your chicken “reduction.” I hope you will show photo updates of the remainder of your “flock” soon. I’ve heard about “floating” wood floors for “wavy” or uneven sub-flooring, so maybe your flooring expert will have a solution for your “make-over” soon. The “Three Stooges” image of your lighting project gave me a good laugh! No matter what you write about, Jeanne, your blog is like a little surprise that brighten’s all our days. Blessings to you as you continue to put out fires, and I hope you do find a little time for some sewing before sunset!

    1. HI Anne,
I’m a bit late to the party tonight, but saw 2 lone comments I had missed… and wanted to get you answered. We did have the best conversation with my mom this go around… not that it’s all solved, but she’s realizing she needs to trust us on this one…

Oh, my goodness, I haven’t had a day this full in a really long time… it’s still going too.. I just had a dear friend call me and needed some help with her Ebay selling. She listed some homeschool books and realized as soon as she sold them, she didn’t have a clue what to do next. So that took over an hour and a half to work out… Then Rebecca called her dad and her Blazer was still overheating so he had to go rescue her and follow her home. She’s house sitting for some friends so my hubby had to take her out to their house and I’m guessing he’ll have to pick her up in the morning and take her to work…unless he can work on her car this evening and figure out what’s wrong…
My mom just called and wondered why her car wasn’t in her garage…. George had me drive it home yesterday afternoon when we got back, so he could check the oil in it… She was frantic… put something has happened to her phone and I couldn’t get her to answer her cell phone… (she turns down the volume…)
…anyway, I haven’t made it into my sewing room yet and it’s now 9:30 so I’m thinking of a new direction for tomorrow’s post… hmmmm… guess we’ll find out what I came up with tomorrow…
      Thanks Anne,
      Blessings, Jeanne
