Janie’s Blue Birthday Party dress is finished…

It’s almost amazing how quickly this dress went together…only minimal backtracking on this one…I got 2 little gathers in her sleeves crooked and took out a small section to straighten them up and had to restitch part of the lace on the waistline of her dress. Other than that, I think the whole thing was smooth sailing…which was nice, considering how many “do-overs” I had to fix on Addy’s dress. (Which, by the way, ends this evening…)

I think the thing that took the longest on Janie’s dress, was, believe it or not, trying to figure out what color floss to thread through the beading on her lace collar. I just couldn’t decide, so I got my hubby in on the action and we spent quite a bit of time…me tying little bows, and holding it up to the lace… red, green, pale blue, burgundy, gold, yellow, pink… etc. Some of the colors made it look too country, some made it look too Christmas-y, and some made it look too “schoolish!” I had so many little bows tied… and I finally let my hubby decide. He liked this peachy…almost pink floss. I wove it through and tied the bow…and decided he was probably right.

Next it was time to make her slip… just a sweet little white tulle with a tiny peach accent.

Janie needed a new pair of thigh highs to go with her new dress too.

I decided on just a sweet hair bow with this dress.

I found a tiny box and “wrapped” it in a piece of peach dotted fabric. Then added a white bow.

Janie is totally ready for the Birthday Party and hopes Lian will like her present. It’s empty… but if one of my subscribers wins the set off Ebay, I’ll send YOU a little something…along with the dress set! How’s that?

Well, I have to go take care of my hubby now…he got a splinter in his foot and I was so busy listing Janie’s dress on Ebay, I asked him if he could wait… BAD WIFE… BAD WIFE!

If you want to see Janie’s dress on Ebay, you can click on the picture at the right side bar or click HERE.

If you want to see Addy’s dress that’s ending on Ebay this evening click HERE.

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Congratulations! Not only did this dress go together quickly and perfectly, it’s already attracted a bid.
Where do you go for Effner wigs? The ones for my last doll are not the right size, so what size do you buy and where? Two of my girls would like to change their style.
I hope the splinter removal went smoothly.
We have a prediction for between 6 and 14 inches of snow this weekend. That should be fun.

    1. Thank you Marilyn,
I got the first bid less than 30 minutes after I listed it… that’s a good thing!
I usually only buy Monique Synthetic Mohair wigs… I find them at Audrey’s Dolls, Jpop dolls, and then at the Monique site itself. I love the feel of the synthetic mohair wigs…so soft and easy to style. I generally buy the size 7/8 as they are easier to put on. Lian’s black bob is a 6/7 and it’s a bit of a challenge to get on her…which is why it stays on her all the time. Although I did find a long black wig in my stash recently and I might have to try it on her…
The splinter was HUGE…I’m talking almost 1/2″ long… and it was really stuck in there. Poor baby!
I can’t believe you might get that much snow… That doesn’t sound fun to me AT ALL!
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. That was the perfect icing on the cake—-the embroidery floss stitching and bow on the collar! I thought the dress was just fine without it, but you certainly know how to embellish! The color is just perfect too, George was right! I hope you got that splinter out! Everything looks just darling, from the bow in her hair to the tights on her legs!

Marilyn, do you live near Denver? My son does, and he too, is expecting all that snow this weekend. Good grief!

    1. Thank you Linda,
Janie is all smiles in her new dress and can’t wait for the birthday party to start… (* I think it’s Saturday! *)
Thank you for your sweet compliments Linda. It was a joy to make a dress with no problems… :o)
I’ll take more sunshine but please no snow!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. What a beautiful sight Janie is with her pretty dress. I hope she’ll set a trend on how pretty little girls can dress for special occasions. You, George and Rebecca are a great team for putting together these beautiful creations. Again, thanks for letting us come along and view the process.

    Take care.

    1. HI Becky,
Thank you for your sweet comments on Janie’s new dress. She certainly does look like a Little Darling, doesn’t she?
It’s my pleasure to bring you along for the ride as I make new things each week!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Janie’s dress is just adorable and I am sure you were glad it didn’t have any problems. I think it is because you always use a particular pattern for the Little Darling, but each one looks very different because of the embellishments you choose. The little peach bow in a great choice. I also really like the double needle stitching you added to the bodice.
I hope George’s foot is okay. Splinters are NO fun.
We did get the half inch of snow last weekend, but will hit 70 today and lots of sun. :-). I wouldn’y want to have more snow this year like Marilyn is expecting. This winter was relatively mild compared to recent ones, but I am more than ready for flowers and gardens etc. Ohio’s weather is funny at times though. My grandfather always said ” If you don’t like the weather now, wait a few hours, it will change.”

    1. HI Laura,
Yes, there is something to be said for having a good bodice pattern! You can change up the neckline and sleeves and skirt just a bit and still not have any “fit” problems… It’ was a dream this time and I was very thankful!
I’m glad it’s all sunshiny here! I wouldn’t like it if we had snow coming this late in April…but we have before…
Thanks for your sweet compliments on Janie’s dress, Laura. I really appreciate them.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. The dress is just perfect. Her hair is beautiful. You really know how to style it. A very clever use for the lace edging. Thanks for taking us along on an easy one.

    1. HI Susette,
Yes, this was an easy one… it took some time to make, but there were no mishaps and no redo’s this time! What a relief!
Thanks so much for coming along on the journey with my sewing.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Good evening, Jeanne! I’m late to the party today, but I am sure you are still up and just getting started! Am I wrong? I will be heading up to bed shortly as I am tired… already. I just wanted to say how pretty Janie is in her blue dress. I thought it was perfect before you added the pink touches, but now it is very special indeed! What a neat idea to wrap Janie’s birthday gift in fabric; that is so cute! There’s going to be one very happy and surprised Little Darling soon. Don’t stay up too late…

    1. HI Cindy,
I’m trying to do better but it seems I take one step forward and two steps back… with getting to bed I mean… Your comment was made at 8:50 and it’s almost 10:30, so I’m pretty sure you’re in dreamland by now… I still have to write a post for tomorrow…Yikes! I was busy all day!
Thanks for your sweet compliments on Janie’s dress…it was so nice to have something go together without any fussing with it…
Are you having the same beautiful weather we are? It was a gorgeous day today and looks like the whole weekend is supposed to be nice…
I’m on the hunt for a large dresser or cabinet…something with lots of little narrow (4″ or so) drawers in it..and lots of them. I want to use it for a cutting and storage table. I’m tired of rubbermaid clear containers… I want to have everything more hidden in my sewing room instead of all in clear tubs… So I might go to some antique shops tomorrow or hit a few yard sales… :o)
      Thank you Cindy,
      blessings, Jeanne
