It’s not how much you SPEND at JoAnn Fabrics…it’s how much you SAVE!!!

My hubby and I were working most of the morning and afternoon taking down Christmas trees and lots of decorations at our church. At about 4:00 he got a service call and decided we needed to wrap things up. I hadn’t been out shopping since Christmas Eve and his call was about a plumbing project that was going to take quite a while, so I decided to go to town. I had a couple of coupons from JoAnn Fabrics that were burning a hole in my pocket, so I started there. The store was quiet and it was so nice to push a cart around and look at E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G and not have to be in a hurry or fight the crowds. Most of their Christmas stuff was on sale 50-75% and I took advantage of it. I’ll give you look at what I picked up.

Right as I stepped inside the door, I spotted this big beautiful box with Chickadees on it. It was in good condition and at 75% off, I grabbed a shopping cart and had my first item. I HAD to…it was 75% off and it was so pretty and the last one this size… I think I’ll use it to store some of my smaller Christmas things in.

Then I spotted all of the the plastic organizers and they called out to me… J-E-A-N-N-E – Y-O-U – N-E-E-D – U-S! I think I’m a sucker for totes and containers and anything that has to do with organization. With as much stuff as I have to keep for my sewing business, I knew I could put these to good use. They are actually Scrapbooking totes, but I’ll use them for something else. If you saw my Sewing Room post yesterday, (HERE) you may have noticed how many “things” I have on shelves. If I told the truth, I’d love to have everything all hidden away in pretty decorative boxes, but it’s just easier to spot things when they are in clear containers. Yes… I got TWO of them!

CIMG6105

Okay, that’s it…that’s all I bought…

Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire…OPEN THE BOX, JEANNE…

CIMG6111

Okay, so I bought a few more things… here they are…

CIMG6110

Two new patterns… I love the little overall type jumper dress for the doll, and I was intrigued with the Ukrainian costume on the other pattern. McCall’s patterns were a MERE $1.66!

CIMG6112

I found some stickers… I use LOTS of stickers when I package up my doll outfits… of course, now I’ll have to wait till next Christmas to use them, but I couldn’t resist…

CIMG6118

I found some tissue paper and 2 rolls of Christmas plaid ribbon…

CIMG6130

Guess what these will be used for???

CIMG6117

CIMG6123

In case you couldn’t guess… Doll Dresses and a slip from the sparkle tulle. And guess why I picked pink?

So here’s my box again with all my goodies in it…

CIMG6132

…and here’s a close up of the bottom of my receipt… Remember what I said, “It’s not how much you SPEND…it’s how much you SAVE!”

I DID GOOD, DIDN’T I???

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Yes, you did good. I’m guessing you kept this right around $20? I have to ask, what is the pink tulle fabric? I keep trying to find that soft slightly stretchy tulle to no avail. I can only find it on little girls clothing (which I have purchased to cut up 🙁 ). Do you know what it is called or where to get it?
I enjoyed the pics of your sewing room yesterday. Your space works perfectly, so sunny and spacious. It really does help being off the main room. I, too, hate being tucked away somewhere, away from the rest of the house. Your sewing room looks normal (clutter-wise, that is) to me. Sewing is a messy business.
Gosh, it’s the weekend already, again. Have a good one, Jeannie.

    1. HI Cindy,
It was a little more than $20…those Scrapbooking cases were regularly $19.99 each…
The pink tulle is netting, like you’d use for a wedding… you can find it with all the netting… you know, what you make the rice bags out of to throw at a wedding. It’s over by the fancy fabrics, laces on bolts, at JoAnn Fabrics. It comes in a zillion different colors and some have sparkle to them, some are flocked with tlny hearts, polkadots, etc… let me know if you can’t find any…
I don’t know if I’d sew as much as I do, if I had to be in a room upstairs or down in the basement. I like to be where everyone else is.
      Thanks Cindy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

Cindy, I’m wondering if you are thinking about sheer tricot? It’s a knit fabric, stretchy and sheer, and often used for pegnoirs and the like, usually with a matching solid tricot for the nightgown underneath. It was very popular in the 1960s and 1970s, and when we had Stretch & Sew stores during the 70s and into the early 80s, they carried it, the solid tricot, and coordinating laces and elastics for lingerie sewing.

Unfortunately, sheer tricot is getting hard to find. I did find some at Nancy’c Sewing Basket in Seattle last fall, and there’s a place in Texas called Fabric Depot (not to be confused with a totally different store called Fabric Depot that is in Portland, OR) which I think might carry it. You could also google “sheer tricot” and see what pops up–you find a close-up picture that would tell you whether or not this was what you had in mind. If that’s Not what you had in mind, then I guess I can’t help you, but I thought I’d give it a shot! 😉

      1. Oh, yes, I remember tricot. My grandma and mom had lots of slips and nighties made out of that fabric. I was looking for the stretchy tulle that they use for little girls skirts. It doesn’t fray or roll and is soft. Thanks for your suggestion, Charlotte. I appreciate it.

  2. Love all your treasures! My daughter and I did the rounds of Michael’s and A.C.Moore’s yesterday. By that time I was too tired to go to Joannes…now I wish I had! Hope to go Monday while daughter is in Japanese class. Hope I save as much as you did!

    Love your posts!

    1. Good morning Jane,
I wish we had a Michael’s store here…and my sister talks about A.C. Moore’s out east. I’ve never been in one of them…but they sound great.
There is hardly anything at JoAnn’s that isn’t on sale, so there is still lots to choose from.
      Thanks for reading,
      Blessings, Jeanne

Jeanne, I totally approve of your finds at Joann’s. I love using decorative boxes to hide a variety of clutter-y objects. The box you found is really very cute.
Love the patterns of little girl dresses with the additional 18″ doll pattern. I think I can guess which dresses you will be making!!
I am thinking that a trip to Joann’s is on my agenda for today.

    1. Oh good, Jeannie, I was hoping you’d approve! Maybe JoAnn’s will get a little more business today because of my post… too bad they aren’t a sponsor for me…
Oh well, have a fun shopping trip…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Yes, you did awesome! I think we are kindred spirits. 🙂 I am a sucker for pretty much everything you got. LOL Although, I missed the jumper pattern. Guess I’m going to have to make a run to Joann’s with my Christmas gift card and see what damage I can do. 🙂

    1. Hi Christine,
Oh, isn’t it fun to get a JoAnn’s gift card? You can buy whatever your heart desires and not feel the least bit guilty…someone else is paying for it!
Have a good trip and let me know what you find!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Hi Jeanne,
I think I know about the fabric and pattern, too. I hope it’s a Valentine’s Day dress in the works. My dolls and my daughter’s actually do get dressed for Valentine’s Day

    1. Hi Laura,
Yep, you’re right…It’s for Valentine’s Day… I better get busy! Pink and Red dresses are two of my favorites to sew!
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Loved everything you got! Can’t wait to see what you make out of them. Valentine dresses will be new to me since I didn’t know you last year at this time. How exciting. Also, the box is beautiful – I have a thing for pretty boxes too. Especially Christmas boxes. One year Big Lots had bunches in all sizes and pretty Christmas designs. Perfect for special ornaments or special Christmas decorations.

  7. Hi Paula,
I see I’m not the only one who likes pretty decorative boxes to store things in. I got several emails from ladies who like them and even one who bought the same exact chickadee box back in November but she paid full price for it. She was jealous of my bargain.
I’ve been trying to decide what to put in my new storage pieces… haven’t figured it out yet.
Yes, Valentine dresses will be new to you. I’ve got one going on Ebay this evening.
    Blessings, Jeanne

Wow, you got some fantastic stuff, Jeanne! I do love that chickadee box–I love chickadees anyway, and am hoping by the time I get to my own JoAnn’s, there will still be at least one left for me! You did really well on your savings!!

I got a JA’s gift card for Christmas, too. Hmmm, I wonder if I can sneak over there for a while tomorrow afternoon, after church and lunch out?!

    Charlotte

    1. Charlotte,
I hope you get to go… It’s more fun shopping when you know you’re saving money! Have fun!
      Blessings, Jeanne

I did go….got the two zippers I needed, but there wasn’t much Christmas stuff left, and no chickadee box. However I did get some snap and stack containers (50% off) and am hoping to start sorting out my trims and ribbons (at the moment, stuffed into two plastic shoeboxes–and I do mean Stuffed! LOL), and a roll of all-chocolate Necco wafers. 😉

        Charlotte

  9. 🙂
(That was going to be all I was going to “say”, but I have to add that I have that pattern with the Ukrainian costume on it)
