It’s not a DRESS…it’s a ROMPER for Patsy this time…

I wonder how many of you caught it each time I mentioned Patsy’s “outfit” instead of saying “dress” this time? I thought about doing a dress but Linda mentioned something about play clothes and Joy mentioned a romper so I thought, “yes, with the tricycle a little romper would be fun.” So I decided to go for it…

Well… you know how that goes… You think you have it all planned out in your mind… but the romper legs were too long, so I cut them off. Then I added a band…it was too long, so I decided to run elastic through it…

…and it looked too droopy…so I cut the band off, shortening it a bit and decided to add a ruffle… I didn’t like that because the ruffle made it long again. But I cut the ruffle off before I could show you so I had to just lay it back on the romper and you’ll have to pretend like it’s attached.

Now I’m in the process of just adding a band to the bottom of the legs and hope this works, or I’m going to have a “sun suit” for Patsy instead of a romper.

I worked hard at the Food Pantry today for 5 hours and I promised myself I would get to bed by midnight and it’s now 12:26, and I’m going soon, but I thought I’d show you just a few other rompers I’ve made for some of my girls. These come from the “archives” and some go back quite a few years…

Here’s my Bitty Bethany in a hot pink corduroy romper…

This is Katie Effanbee in her bright pink romper …with a detachable skirt…(how nifty is that, huh?)

Oh…don’t forget…my 1900’s dress, “Coral Charm” ends this evening on Ebay. You can see it HERE.

See you tomorrow,

Having Patsy wave really does work. She looks so cute and real and active. I am so smart I can’t believe it. (I mentioned yesterday that Patsy might wave and it would make her arms look less stiff so she’d look more natural on the trike — that’s why I think I’m so smart.) Are Patsy’s eyes green or does the green fabric just make them look that way?

I do see why you liked the lovely blue and green fabric. It’s like your lovely outfits — it’s gone but there’s always more (fabric) or another one (outfit). And you do have your lovely clear photos.

I’ve been lurking on the coral outfit, but I once missed an outfit that I really wanted because I forgot when the auction was ending. I don’t mind being outbid, but losing something because I forgot or slept through an auction is no good at all.

The sun is out and I have both heat and light, along with lots of very cold snow. When it heats up a little I’ll go shovel the rest of the walk.

    1. HI Marilyn,
I thought you’d like to see Patsy waving at you…and couldn’t resist. Patsy’s eyes are a greenish blue…and do seem to change when I put her in different fabrics.

I have just a little bit left of that fabric but it would probably only be enough for something for Ten Ping…

I’ve missed an auction ending before and really regretted it… but something new always comes up so you have to just be patient and wait… *sigh*

I hope the sun melts your snow quickly… it will be terrible for all those Easter Egg hunts to be done in 10 inches of snow! :o)
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

We are supposed to have more snow Saturday. I think the egg hunts will have to be indoors.

  2. Patsy’s romper is adorable Jeanne. I can see I was not paying attention to your wording.

I’m old enough to remember outfits like this so know that Patsy will have a great time riding that tricycle and feeling free as a bird with no skirt to get caught up around her waist.

Your other outfits are charming too. Yes, that blue fabric is marvelous. What color would you call that blue? A periwinkle? It’s one of my favorites too. Some fabrics just are seem so perfect.

    Take care.

    1. HI Becky,
I have tried so many different leg designs…I’m about ready to change it into a dress again…
      and I might!
I used to have some romper things too and it was nice not to have to worry about skirts…but we usually wore shorts under our dresses…just in case…

I don’t exactly know what color I’d call the blue… it’s not periwinkle…but just a pretty blue… maybe cornflower blue? It went so well with the apple green fabric too…
      Thanks Becky,
      Blessings, Jeanne

    1. HI Jan,
Yes, those little calf muscles in her legs are getting bigger each time she goes around my table. :o)
      Thanks so much Jan,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Good Morning,

Well my Patsy arrived yesterday, she is adorable. I really love this little girl. I am thinking she will need a new outfit soon!!!

    1. HI Robin,
Well, we all know what you are doing today…. PLAYING DOLLS!
I’m glad Patsy arrived and that you love her! Well, I know “someone” who makes doll clothes and she’s trying to get one finished real soon! :o)
Thanks Robin, I’m happy for you …
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. The little romper outfit is so cute on Patsy. Great for spring, but I think it also might work as a little outfit for the Christmas season. Very versatile.

    1. HI Joy,
Well, if I can ever figure out the legs on this thing, I’ll get cookin’ on the rest of the outfit…
It might work for several seasons… who knows…
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Jeanne, Patsy’s romper is darling, but I think the first couple of pictures, with the elastic at the bottom, look more like pajamas! By adding the ruffle and making them a bit shorter, does make a difference, and makes them look more like something she would play in.

Are you making a little hat to go with this outfit? I like the one you have in the last few pictures, the one that looks like an upside down tulip, with a ruffle around it. That would go perfectly!

We have been having great weather here, haven’t we? My poor son, living in Denver, is swamped with snow and had no power for about 6 hours yesterday. Can’t imagine getting ready for Easter with snow on the ground! Good luck, Marilyn, with all that white stuff!

    1. HI Linda,
I’ve probably only made 15 or less outfits with pants in the 10 years I’ve been selling my doll clothes…so I’m struggling with the look… I’m about ready to change my mind… and go for a dress with pantalettes underneath. We’ll see…

Yes, I was planning on making a hat like Bitty’s for this set… good call…

Yes, the weather right now is wonderful… I could do this year round, how about you?
I know…those poor Colorado people… Easter Egg hunts in the snow doesn’t seem quite right to me… I guess they’ll figure it out…

      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. When I was little in the mid-fifties we lived in California. I often wore what my mother called rompers. They had string ties at the shoulder, elastic at the waist, and elastic at the legs. But they ended at the top of my legs … very short. I wore those and flip flops or red keds (they had to be red) all summer for years and loved it.

Your versions of rompers are very cute … like everything you make. Your work is an inspiration.

    1. HI Kathleen,
We wore the same things as you are describing but we called them sun suits. We wore the Keds too… red and white ones.
I’m hoping to get inspired enough to get this little set finished…
      Thank you so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Yes, we used to call them sun suits when I was a child. Making the legs a little shorter and pushing them up with the elastic would be cute without any ruffles on the bottom so they are like bloomers? I looked them up once for a friend who bemoaned the fact that none are in the stores for little girls, but there were so many cute ones available on-line.

I’m looking at Butterick 5865, true overalls, to make sometime, but not with the blue fabric to go with the blue shoes and the petticoat I won. Riya didn’t know what “overalls” were. They would be hard to get out of to go to the bathroom for sure. Cute, though. One of your followers mentioned a school fair and I was reminded that the only thing I’ve ever won except what I paid for on eBay was a lamp, believe it or not, at a Lutheran school fair when I was in Second Grade. Thanks for breaking the spell.

    1. HI Susette,
My niece has been pinning little vintage sunsuits to her “baby” board… and some of them are so adorable.
So the slip that you won broke the spell since 2nd grade? Glad you won! :o)
      Thanks Susette,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Patsy looks really cute. I like the ruffled legs, but I’m sure whatever you decide will be great. The last photo of Bitty Bethany is just the cutest!

    1. HI Regina,
Well, I’ve totally changed up Patsy’s outfit… I hope everyone still likes it.
I like that picture of Bitty Bethany too! :o)
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne
