It’s my birthday and I think I’ll have cake!

Today is a day I have been long dreading… not so much that I feel 60, but it just seems like a much bigger number than 59! I guess it’s not… and I remember last year when I turned 59 and was even talking about “the next one” that came, there were lots of perks to turning 60. Somehow that discount at Joann’s or a flying discount doesn’t matter when I have no place to go, a rental car discount seems pointless, I’m not planning on a hotel visit in the near future… Oh, I just found out Kohl’s offers discounts to us 55 or older’s group…on Wednesday’s! I can do that! Dunkin Donuts will give me a free donut with the purchase of a cup of coffee…too bad I don’t like coffee!

It doesn’t matter… countless people before me have turned 60 and they seem to be doing just fine, so I’m sure I will too… and YES, I DO plan to have cake tonight when I go out with my family!

Okay, enough on that… you want to see my sign don’t you? It’s wonderful and I can’t thank my sister enough for it. It’s my favorite thing in my sewing room right now… except for my new wreath, and my clock, and my new furniture, and my dolls… I just love it all! (Susette, YOU guessed right!)

When I look at this sign Cindy painted freehand, I can’t believe it turned out so well… well, I should, she does everything excellently! (I hope you’re reading this as you head home, Cindy!)

Here are a few pictures I took of her finishing it up…

20160828_162506-1-1

I’m not going to actually hang it up…it just looks like it used to be hung up… little eye hooks were added to make it more “sign worthy!”
This picture was taken without a flash…

…and this one with a flash. It needs a daylight picture, but it’s midnight right now, so I’m using my overhead lights…

20160828_231930

Here’s a close up of the spool of thread Cindy painted. I think it’s adorable!

20160828_231947-1

After we sat and admired the sign till we couldn’t think of any more adjectives to describe it, we moved on to a puzzle my mom and I have been working on for about 6 or 8 weeks now. It’s a toughie! We didn’t get done, but we certainly made some headway…

20160828_223324

This is what it’s supposed to look like when it’s all done… right now that’s a distant hope! :o)

20160828_223634

Well, this Dressmaker better get to bed… I need some beauty rest for this “aging” body of mine! :o)

Really, I’m fine… and I can’t wait to show you the rest of my room… I guess we’ll have a second Reveal on it as a few things have changed… but I’ll try to sneak in some sewing… too!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Happy Birthday! I think 60 sounds freer and happier than 59. 60 was a good year for me. It’s going to be one of your best so far.

The sign is wonderful — I wondered when I saw it yesterday what it would say but I didn’t guess Dressmaker. The spool, needle, and thread are perfect. The placement is also exactly right — the sign looks perfect and I’m sure the wall is grateful that the sign is not really hanging. The eye hooks are an exactly right last touch. You’ve moved your boxes and that part of the room looks even better than it did in the previous pictures. It’s a lovely studio. You are going to be very happy working there.
Rebecca is waiting with her dress fabric, but seeing all the other fabrics makes me want to choose a fabric for the one after this, and I have chosen something from the yellow range.

I want to see where you put the wreath.

I hope your celebration was lovely and the cake was delicious. Don’t forget to tell us about the family get-together.

    1. Thank you Marilyn,
Well, I woke up this morning and still felt the same, so I guess I’ll be alright! :o)

We debated and debated about Dressmaker or Dressmaking and Cindy finally said, “you’re a dressmaker….let’s use dressmaker!” I love it! I wish you could see it in person…it’s really nice when you see it with your own eyes and up close!
George is going to finish my lighting today and those cords won’t be hanging down and I’ll really like that! He got me some new kind of bulbs and it’s so bright it looks like an operating room in there! I should be able see every little detail now…and so will the neighbors when my lights are on! eek!

Tonight is when we go out with my family and I don’t know where they are taking me, but I’m sure wherever it is, I’ll have cake! I have to!
      Thank you Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Happy, Happy Birthday, dear Jeanne Marie!! I almost got it right, but glad I sent the card early. Don’t you worry about a thing being 60 now. It’s what you make of life, and you have the makings of a really fun and interesting life.

Oh my, the little snippets of the sewing studio look just wonderful! It almost looks like a fancy store! I absolutely love the sign Cindy made, and it adds personality to your room. I’m so sorry I could not write yesterday, but I had computer troubles and spent half the day trying to fix them, but finally gave up.

Have a wonderful day today, and eat an extra piece of birthday cake for me—you deserve it!

    1. HI LInda,
I’m not sure I thanked you for the card… my ONLY card so far! I put it in one of my pictures, but it was just on the table. Thank you so much…it was very sweet….literally!

Oh my, my sewing “studio” looks like a fancy store, huh? Now that’s got to be a first!
I love my new sign too…it really is the first thing you see when you walk in the room… I guess I’m officially a Dressmaker now!

I’ll have my cake and eat a slice for you too! Thank you so much for your friendship, Linda. It has been wonderful chatting with you for over 2 years now!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Happy Birthday, Jeanne. Yes, life goes on after that marker is reached.

As mentioned above, your studio looks great…the sign is just a marvelous addition and the confirmation that you indeed are a true member of that group of men/women whose ranks you are a part of. What a fun, fun place to work in. I too look forward to seeing the whole room.

May the cake you eat be a reminder of all the wonderful years of blessings you’ve had.

    Happy Birthday!

    1. Hi Becky, my hubby is working on my lighting right now so hopefully I’ll get that part of my room done today. I am very blessed in my new room…
Thank you so much for the birthday wishes. ..
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. The sign is just wonderful! And the best part is who it reminds you of, George found it and Cindy painted it. How about putting it on or hanging it above the shelves behind your chair at the sewing machine, if I remember the room plan correctly. Then it would be visible from the living room. And the other things on the wall could stay right where they are. What a collection!

Don’t even give 60 a thought. That’s coming from someone who is 75, not worried about it and still able to sew. I worked 6:30-2 p.m. until I was 67, showing up every day. And you are much, much stronger than I am, so enjoy today as the first day of the next third of your life. Wouldn’t it be funny if your little tiny birthday present from China arrived today? Happy, Happy Birthday, Jeanne Marie.

    1. Hi Susette,
We’ll the wall behind my sewing machine has changed so I think I will keep it up on the shelf for now..
I guess 60 isn’t bothering me too much as I’m carrying on with my day just like I did yesterday!
Yes it would be fun if something arrives today for me from you…I’ll keep you posted.
      Thank you Susette!
      Blessings, Jeanne

    2. Hi Susette…my package from China DID arrive just a few minutes ago. I’ve never had colorful bobbins before! They are so nice and I love the cases they come in!!!
Thank you SO much! Every time I wind a bobbin I’ll think of you!
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. Oh, please don’t. You use so many bobbins that you’re excused from thinking except on your sewing.

  5. Happy, happy birthday to you, Jeanne! As my daughter tells me, age is just a number. Anyway, you’re still young, 60 is the new 40. Enjoy every bite of that birthday cake–you deserve it!

I love your sign! It’s wonderful and perfect!

BTW, thanks for letting me know about the Kohl’s discount; I can now take part in that.

    1. Hi Cindy and that you for the birthday wishes! I am enjoying my day so it must not be as bad as I thought it would….
I’ve learned about a few more discounts today that I didn’t know about… maybe this will be okay after all. ..
      Thanks Cindy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Happy Birthday to the most kind, considerate, and thoughtful sister in the world! To the readers wondering if Jeanne is as thoughtful and kind (not to mention talented), as she appears to be– I say YES!
And more so!! I love you, Jeanne, and wish you a wonderful birthday filled with pleasant things!! Love, ME:)

    1. Awwww Deb,
Thank you so much! What a sweet sister you are…I can’t wait to see you this weekend!
      Love you!
      Me

  7. HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR JEANNE !!! I hope you enjoy your day and celebrate the way you want to. (Why did I think your birthday was Sept. 5th?) What type of cake are you having?

Cindy’s sign is just perfect!!! She has a steady hand to do that painting. It looks like an original sign from a sewing studio too. I know you will enjoy it immensely every time you look at it.
I didn’t know that about Kohl’s either? Wow.

Enjoy your day, dear Jeanne. I’ll be thinking of you and wishing you many Blessings!

    1. Hi Paula and thank you for the birthday wishes! My anniversary is on Sept 5th so you may have remembered that from something I said…
I’m not sure where we are going but surely there will be cake…
Yes…Cindy is certainly is good at whatever she sets out to do… I’m sitting in the living room right now and looking into my sewing room and that sign just amazes me! What a wonderful gift to me!!!
      Thank you Paula,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Happy 60th Birthday, Jeanne! Now I don’t feel so alone in the 60 club (I turned 60 last October and was not happy about it at all! 🙂 ) I hope you have a very special day and year!

Your studio is beautiful! Love your new sign, and what talent your sister, Cindy, has! I just love a crafting family, and I come from one myself. Love surrounds you inside your special happy sewing space! You are truly blessed!

    1. Thank you Karen,
      We’ll if you can do the 60’s thing…I guess I can too…
Thank you for your sweet compliments on my new room…it will be a real treat to sew in there.
It sounds kind of silly but we are a crafty family.
      Thank you so much!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. Happy Happy Bday!!!! I am 7 months older than you and I am loving being this age.. To me the only bad thing is the outside doesn’t show what my insides feels.. I still have the young mind and am lots of fun but I am now much slower than I was.. I am very proud that I am 60.
I thought your sign would say I dream of JeanneMarie. Maybe you should add to your sign “Doll” Dressmaker.. hehe.. You have a very talented sister too.. sounds like it runs in your family.. I guess your parents helped you all develop your gifts.. great parents!!

    1. Hi Kath,
I see I have quite a few readers who have just joined me or are slightly ahead of me in this 60’s thing!
I like the looks of just the one word on my sign…but I have found my niche with the dolls!
My dad was always doing some kind of craft or taking courses for things…I think we all got that from him….momma just encouraged and bragged on us!
      Thank you Kath,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. Happy Birthday, Jeanne. Have a wonderful cake and enjoy lots of cake. I just turned 65 on Aug 20, so still adjusting to that number!.
    Love the sign too.

    Cindy

    1. Hi Cindy,
Thank you for the birthday wishes. I am looking forward to that piece of cake tonight. Another 60 something member of my little blog group… hope 65 is treatin you well!
      Thank you Cindy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  11. The sign is perfect! Love it.
Here are a few more senior discounts for you:
Free senior drink at Taco Bell, Arby’s, and Chic Filet. I’m sure there are others too.
I’ve found that if you ask, a lot of businesses offer a discount. You however, will be carded for sure. You just look way too young. Happy Day!

    1. Hi Joy, thank you for the other discount advice. I didn’t know about the Taco Bell discount and we go there fairly often so I’ll be using that next time I go. Thank you for the sweet birthday wishes.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  12. Your new “Dressmaker” sign is just wonderful, Jeanne, and all the more so because of the love your hubby and sister put into it! I love the bold font with the illuminated letter “D” and scrolling letter “R.” I applaud Cindy’s steady hand; what a talent she possesses! Sanding the wood down a bit reveals the grain and adds rustic appeal, and the needle and thread lend the perfect touch of whimsy. All together, the new signage helps give your space a proper sense of place and purpose, and I hope every glimpse of it reminds you of the “dream come true” that is now your new sewing studio.

Happy, happy birthday, Jeanne!! God has granted you 60 wonderful years, and the warmth and kindness of your heart makes you more beautiful with each milestone. I wish you every good and perfect thing on your birthday, as well as health and happiness in the year ahead. May God continue to bless you with faith, family and friendship (and sewing!), and may the joy you’ve given others return to bless you a thousandfold! Have a marvelous celebration with your family, Jeanne, and enjoy your cake!

    1. Hi Anne,
I’m just like you, I like the fancy D and the swirly R at the end of the sign too. Cindy also used a piece of sandpaper and sanded down the white border along the edge to give it a little bit more vintage look. I like it better that way too. You are right, I will think of Cindy every time I walk in my sewing room and see that sign.
Thank you for your sweet blessings over me on my birthday. I receive all of them and I’m so grateful for people like you who read my blog. I am truly blessed!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  13. A very HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, Jeanne. I’m a little late to the party , I see. It’s been a absolutely gorgeous day her and I hope you are having a lovely one as well.
The sign Cindy made for you looks so professional. I love the little spool of thread at the top.I agree that you studio does look like a dressmakers shop. It will be such a joy to sew in there. Lookning forward to seeing the rest of the reveal with the wreath.
Enjoy your party and remeber cake has no calories on your birthday.

    1. HI Laura,
Oh good, I’m glad you reminded me that the cake has no calories on my birthday… I was worried… but now I won’t! :o)
Yes, I am in love with my sign Cindy painted me… It is so fun to walk in my room and see it all big and out there!!! I had 2 girls just stop by to bring me some flowers and a card and I showed them my room and the first thing one of them noticed was the sign!
It WILL be a real joy to sew in there… My hubby is working on the lighting in there right now… but we are going out for dinner soon…
Thank you so much for the birthday wishes, Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  14. Happy birthday, Jeanne!! remember,, 60 is “Six Perfect 10’s!!’

My birthday has been wonderful today…and I’m sure it will only get better…especially when I have my piece of cake!
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  15. Happy Birthday from Me too! I ‘ve really enjoyed your sewing studio remodel and especially the wonderful Dressmaker sign! I used to collect old sewing machines and the Treadle pedal that you have on the wall intrigued me. resorted to the old favorite It is from a Wilcox and Gibbs machine. Here is a link to one on pintrest . If it doesn’t open for you just Goggle , Wilcox and Gibbs treadles. It’s long but I just copied and pasted the link and it worked.

    1. Thank you for the treadle information, Ingrid. I didn’t know that…now I do!!! I have the smartest and most informed readers!!
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  16. Happy happy happy birthday to you!
    I can’t believe you are 60…50 I could believe…you are a young looking 60 my dear!
Enjoy your birthday…and this whole next decade.
Love the sign Cindy made….she is super talented.

    Have a wonderful birthday week!

    1. HI Kathie,
Oh…the best was saved for last… 50 instead of 60? I’ll take that any day of the week and twice on Sunday! Thanks for the sweet compliments! I truly appreciate them…
I will enjoy my life…however long I live it!
I love my sign too… I still can’t believe she made it!
      Thanks Kathie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  17. Happy, happy birthday. Have to say that 60 sounds young to me–it IS young! Sounds like you are celebrating well. Is there ice cream with that cake? I want to know how many pieces are in that puzzle–it looks huge. My husband and I have one going all the time, even have it on the kitchen counter. Anyone who comes in is magnetically drawn to it–if they do puzzles, that is.

Have a super great day. The sign is perfect!

    1. HI Joy,
This puzzle is a 1000 piece one and the colors are so muted…and so many trees and all that cobblestone… really makes for a hard one… but there are lots of little signs and barrels and windows and slowly we have been creeping to the finish…
      I think 60 is going to be fine… I had a great day…
      I’m glad you like my sign… :o)
      Blessings, Jeanne
