It looks like rain…

The forecast says there is a 90% chance of rain Monday! I guess we’re getting a head start on those April showers!

My sister, Cindy, is here visiting and she’s giving me LOTS of advice on my “soon to be new kitchen.” We’re chattering up a storm about faux bricks and lanterns hanging in the kitchen, and backsplashes, and decorating your kitchen and white paint (if I see another white paint chip, I might… well, you get the idea!), I’m loving it and hope I can remember it all! She’s the one who needs to write a book…

Okay, so now back to the rain… I needed a quick post since I’ve been busy with her, and I remembered the ONE raincoat I have pictures of and thought I’d share it. This might be another one that you haven’t seen before. I sold it a few years ago and searched my archived pictures and didn’t see where I had ever featured it on my blog.

Rebecca looks adorable in her black and white raincoat and hat! Plus she’s got some fun red boots and a red umbrella for that “accent color” I love with black and white.

The fabric was slick coated and you had to sew it with paper on top to keep your presser foot from sticking to the fabric. It was a little bit tricky! I think they make a Teflon foot that helps glide the foot along, but I didn’t have one, so I used paper!

I hope if you need rain you get it and if you don’t, enjoy Rebecca’s raindrops! :o)

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Very cute raincoat and hat, Jeanne! I like the red accent of the buttons, too, as well as the accessories!

I got back from Expo last night about 5:45 or so–we met for supper before I came home, and Ron announced the pastor had called, and I should “pick your four favorite hymns and let him know”–both the pianist and the organist were sick this weekend, and I was pressed into service!! Yikes! I was just about dead on my feet, but picked hymns and let him know, then made sure I got to bed early enough to get about 7 hours of sleep before I had to get up and ready for church. I practiced for maybe 45 min. when I first got there (we don’t have a piano or organ), and managed to not do Too awful!! It was communion Sunday, too, which means some extra music. I took a nap after lunch today, and have started feeling more “human” again! LOL Tomorrow night I have smocking, so will be bringing my Expo treasures along for show and tell!

    Have fun with your sister!

  2. Jeanne, I know just what you mean when you say seeing one more paint chip of white would make you scream! I have gone through that too, and just thinking, how many whites could there be? Turns out, a lot! I too, would like to change my kitchen, but when I think about it, all the mess, no, I don’t think I would! It’s fine, and I still like it, but you know, you like to keep up with the times. I guess I’m just too old!
That is a darling little raincoat Rebecca is wearing! I too, love black and white with an accent color. The coat and hat look a lot like the one AG made for Molly, although the opening was different.
Yes, we too, are in for rain today, in fact, it is raining now!

  3. How about writing down Cindy’s suggestion? I once saw a hinged pullout holder for paper towels that was built into the counter next to the sink that I wish I’d known about when designing renovation of my kitchen ten years ago. Got a great deal as it was sadly at the depth of the recession.

You two are sure having fun. Keep the ideas coming. Thanks for sharing with us. The raincoat is darling.

  4. Rain, rain…sleet, sleet is what we’re getting here with snow and thunderstorms predicted for today also. Rebecca is right on in modeling her lovely rain attire for us today. It’s needed! and to be oh so cute in it is a fun addition for our viewing pleasure. You make such nice things, Jeanne.

Blessings…and have great fun with Cindy.

  5. Well, we have lovely sun just coming up right now. But, it is cold with frost everywhere. Cold inside too because our heater has been giving us fits. Like 55 degrees. We just had the one at my parents old place repaired and now ours too is in need. Guess money is no object when you’re cold.
Glad you’re bouncing around kitchen ideas. I wish your and Cindy’s design service was located out here. Would definitely use it as other person hasn’t liked any suggestions so far. You know, let’s take out that wall and open it up to the family room. “No.” (not a load bearing wall and it is small.) or how about a new front door? “Why?” (It is from the 60’s and just plain ugly and the lock is so old you can’t open it without breaking your arm off.) And on it goes…..
Can’t wait to see your design board when you get going on the kitchen project.

    1. Hi Joy, Love your comments; they always make me smile! We all need some of “Cindy’s Suggestions,” but in the meantime, they say a picture is worth a thousand words. Maybe if you show “other person” some good pictures of what you want, they can jump aboard the “change train.” Good luck, and stay warm!

Darling coat! Such a cute outfit!
Have fun with Cindy. Take lots of notes and remember you can always take pictures with your phone if you are out shopping and see something interesting. I always forget that I have a camera with me all the time. Then my husband will whip out his phone and start taking pictures.
Hope you have a good day!
    Take care –

  7. Dear Jeanne, what a cute outfit. She is definitely ready to break into a chorus of “singing in the rain.” The boots are divine. How did you even make them? Wow!

Dorothy, those look like purchased boots to me; I think I have something similar for my dolls. It’s amazing, the footwear available for our dollies these days!!

  8. What an adorable rainy day outfit, Jeanne. Love it! Did you make the boots, too? The bright red accents “pop” nicely against the black and white, and the red top-stitching adds to the impact. Rebecca looks ready for some puddle-jumping fun!

Enjoying the third day of sunshine here, but perhaps your rain is headed this way. However, our clocks “spring ahead” this Sunday, so I know Spring is near, and not a day too soon! When I visited my Grandma in Palestine, Illinois, as a child, her sleepy little town did not participate in DST. I think it is more uniform now.

Yes, please do take lots of notes while Cindy is visiting! We want details! We want ideas! We want pictures! 😉 Know you are working some on your mom’s house, but trust you are having lots of fun, too. May every minute of your “sister time” be blessed!

  9. What a darling raincoat. So crisp looking with the black and white and red accents.

I too have looked at white paint chips in the whites more than I cared for. My son’s guest bedroom is done in grey, white and touches of aqua. He let me choose the white wall color and since our family has always loved boating, I choose an off white called “sail cloth” and it ended up being more creamy than I thought. I was disappointed and grateful that my son thought it looked okay. The sailcloth paint chip looked better on the chip than on the walls.

looking forward to seeing the changes in your kitchen!

  10. I’m late today, which is good because I find myself saying, “Yes, yes, yes” to comments.
Paula is so right on the difference between chips and wall color. My mom chose a lovely pink for the enclosed stairway. She said to herself, “This is so pretty” all the time she was painting. Then she came into the kitchen to make lunch. The door was left slightly open and when she returned just that small opening looked as if a flock of flamingos had moved in.

Yes, please on the notes — we do want details…ideas…pictures. Some of them may help change Joy’s other person’s mind and make change irresistible. And I think you had a pinterest file too. Could you share that?

I loved Charlotte’s organist story too — it reminded me of when my sister decided to get married quite quickly — she and her boyfriend decided to marry before he left for the service. My mom made the veil, I made the dress, our neighbor made the maid of honor’s dress, and I hemmed the dress at the switchboard, substituting for the friend who need to practice before she played the organ for the wedding. It was a lovely small wedding with chocolate cake, and it has been a good marriage as well.

I almost think I remember that outfit. I especially like the red top stitching. Always the details. That’s just one of the things that keeps us all coming back.

  11. I’m happy you are getting to have a nice visit with you sister. Of course, the decorating advice is a nice bonus! My kitchen needs to be remodeled, but I’m trying to wait until I retire, since I work such long hours. I just don’t think I could cope with the disruption right now. I just have to be patient and admire everyone else’s updated kitchen.
I like the raincoat Rebecca is wearing, especially with the cute red accessories. It isn’t raining here today, but I’m sure it will before the week is over.

  12. So nice that you get to visit with your sister. It’s wonderful you get together quite often,
Rebecca looks cute in the raincoat- black and white with the bit of red.
We had rain on Saturday, and a bit today. Tomorrow is going to be dry, the last warmer day at 50 degrees for awhile and sunshine. Yeah!! I love sun.
