I’m off to the Wedding…and a few pictures of mine!

As you’re reading this post, I’m on my way to Pennsylvania for my niece’s wedding on Saturday afternoon. It is going to be so much fun as she’s having it in a barn…or course it will be decorated, and I can’t wait to see it all put together. I’ll make sure my brother takes lots of pictures so I can share some with you all.

I got a little melancholy thinking about Erin’s wedding and that got me to thinking about mine…almost 34 years ago! I looked through some of my pictures and thought I’d share a few of them with you. They were taken with a “film” camera and aren’t super clear, but I think you’ll still be able to see a few things from them. The pictures I like the most aren’t the few that we had taken by a professional photographer, but the ones taken by people and then given to us.

Before I got married, a few ladies had a bridal shower for me. I think there were 45 people there! I found these pictures and thought you might like to see what it’s like to play “Toilet Paper Bride.” We were divided up into groups of 2…one person was the model and the other was the designer. Each group was given a roll of white toilet paper and then a roll of some colored TP to use for accents or flowers! The designer had to come up with a dress using the 2 rolls, draping it on the model. Then they had to write up a description and we had a little fashion show. Each designer read her description with “flair” and I was supposed to pick the winner. It was so much fun and talk about laughs…we certainly had them!

About a week before we got married, a lady I worked with wanted to meet me at a fancy house she knew of…so she could take some pictures of me in my dress. She took a gob of pictures but I just picked out a few…

For our wedding, I made My dress and veil, my 2 sister’s bridesmaid dresses, the little flower girls pinafore’s, decorated their baskets, made the ring bearer’s tuxedo, the ring bearers’ pillow, and all the bouquets and boutineers, (except for my bouquet)….ALL in 2 months, while working 2 jobs! I was assistant manager at So-Fro Fabrics and I also did window displays for a fancy store in the mall.

Now see this little cutie on the right? That’s Erin… it’s her wedding I’m going to!

I hope you enjoyed a few of my wedding pictures. I don’t know what my schedule will be like or if I’ll have computer access, but I’ll do my very best to answer any comments you leave! I’m scheduling these posts ahead of time… so I can enjoy being with my family at the wedding!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Oh Jeanne, what a beautiful bride you were! I LOVED seeing these pictures and can’t get over how much Kristoffer looks like George! You were a very handsome pair—and still are!
Those crazy games we played at showers! I too, had one with the toilet paper bride, but those were back in the days when no one carried around cameras to take instant pictures like they do now, and I wish I had some pictures like that!. I guess Carbondale got low on toilet paper that day with all those “fancy” dresses!

Your dress was just beautiful and the whole wedding ensemble was so pretty together! To think you did that all by yourself in 2 months—-well I am speechless! Thank you so much for letting us see a glimpse of your wedding and don’t you worry about having to answer comments on your blog. You deserve some time off with your family. Can’t wait to see pictures of the barn!

    1. Hi Linda, I am in the co-pilot seat with my brother driving. Only 755 miles to go…ugh! I can’t believe you played Toilet Paper Bride too. How fun!
Thank you for all your kind compliments!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Your wedding dress is beautiful. I am not surprised that you made all the dresses. 🙂 I made all my bridesmaid dresses, but did not make my own dress. I wish I had. Our wedding anniversary is tomorrow and it 16 years married. Hope you have a wonderful time and look forward to the wedding photos.

    1. Hi Christine, Congratulations on 16 years tomorrow! Happy Anniversary! Thank you for your kind words.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. I enjoyed looking at your wedding pictures. You and your (new) husband look so happy in these pictures. I’ll bet it seems like yesterday, doesn’t it? Oh where, oh where, does time go? Your dress is so pretty as are the other dresses. That is a LOT to get done in two months! I made my dress and bridesmaid dresses (while working too), but I ran out of time so two of my bridesmaids had to find a tailor to help me. It thankfully all worked out.
Have fun at the wedding! Safe travels to you.

    1. Hi Cindy, my mom told us when we dating we were going to have to get married to get any rest! It was a busy time but I have no regrets. Thanks so much Cindy! Only 631 more miles!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Love your photos Jeanne! What awesome memories. You are definitely a person who loves sewing and the most energetic person I know. It’s amazing what you can get accomplished.
    God Bless
    Marsha

    1. Thanks Marsha,
What kind comments you made! Thank you so much! I am so excited to get there!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. You were a beautiful bride, Jeanne! I can’t even contemplate taking on all those sewing projects. Your dress and veil were perfect, as were the other dresses. Good job! Memories are good, make some more this weekend.

    1. Thank you Jevne, maybe I was crazy or just crazy in love… but it’s been almost 34 years so it was definitely worth all the work.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. What a beautiful bride you were! I’m floored that you did all that sewing and preparation while working two jobs back then. Being busy is in your blood. It was great to see your other family members in the pictures too.
Erin and her sister are adorable. To think Erin is getting married must be surreal for the whole family.
Someone mentioned how much Kristoffer looks like George and I agree. Yet, I also think he looks like you. It is always fascinating how our children can look like both their parents yet the parents aren’t related to each other, other than by marriage. I see the same thing in my children. Interesting.
Thank you for sharing some of your wedding pictures.
Also, have fun, relax and enjoy your time! Safe travels.

    1. Hi Paula, thank you so much for all the kind things you said. Kristoffer is a REPLICA of his dad and has been since the day he was born.
We are having fun just visiting in the car…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. You look just lovely in your wedding gown, Jeanne. I love the old-fashioned high collar with lace sleeves. Wow, you must have been busy making all those dresses. The whole wedding party looks beautiful.
Erin looks adorable in that dress. How nice that she served at your wedding and now you get to attend hers. I wish her all the best. 🙂
I also agree that your children sure do take after their parents. I think both Kristoffer and Rebecca look like a true combination of George and you. You certainly found yourself a “keeper” in him.
I hope you have an absolutely fantastic time and safe travel.

    1. Thank you Laura, what kind compliments you gave about my dress. It is a Gunne Sax pattern and I still have it.
Erin is so excited to have some family coming. Me, my brother and his wife, their little boy, my mom, my sister and her husband.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. Beautiful bride and I agree with the others, Kristoffer looks like your hubby. Safe travels and hope you enjoy your time with family!

  10. Love the photos! What a joyous occasion for the family. With a barn to decorate I wonder if you may be a part,if not head, of that crew. I made most of my dress too, although members of my college clothing class helped with the hand sewn hem. Since then I’ve hand beaded several dresses for a niece and friends daughters. It took six months to make and bead one dress. Our living room was a sewing studio. Good times.

I hope you have time to visit the outlet mall where the doll shoes were bought. We’ve been there several times to go to the Pendleton store and there was a chocolate store also. Nothing to do with dolls whenever we were there.

    1. Wow Jan your dress sounds incredible!
No I think the barn decorations are already taken care of.
      Thanks, Jeanne
