I traded Dollies for Doggies… just for today…

OOPS! I guess I had too many licks of sugar yesterday… I’ve only done this 935 times, but I forgot to hit the publish button for today’s post…Here it is… a little late…sorry…

Well, I never made it to your comments yesterday and I’m so sorry. It seems that everyone enjoyed the post and I wanted to thank Susette for “filling” in for me! It was wonderful that she sent me those pictures! I was busy yesterday…”barking up another tree!” I was making cupcakes, or “pupcakes,” as I saw them called on Pinterest. My sweet little sewing buddy, Sara, from Columbia, South America, is having a little group come over to her house today after school and I told her I would make some cupcakes for her birthday party. She’s turning 12! When I asked her what kind of cupcakes she’d like for her party, she said, “dogs!” Well, YIKES… I don’t know how to make dog cupcakes, so I found myself looking at pages of ideas on Pinterest. I thought, “how hard could it be?” Well, let me tell, you it took a little time…the better part of my day! But I have some cute pupcakes… some not so cute ones, and some that just out right made me laugh. I’m sure you’ll see what I mean. There’s even one in there that reminds me of some guy I saw on a western movie I watched the other day! And if you look closely I think a few look like Cookie Monster or Grover…or even Oscar the Grouch!

Sara wanted strawberry cupcakes so I got those baking and worked on some tongues, eyes and noses made from some fondant.

If you click on the pictures, they will enlarge.

By the time I got those pieces made, and had made some chocolate buttercream frosting, my cupcakes were done and cooled and it was time to start. Oh dear… this was my first attempt… I had bought some big googly eyes and I thought they looked a bit silly…

So I tried my second dog, with some eyes I rolled myself and punched out of the fondant. I’m SURE you can all tell this is a Cocker spaniel, can’t you? :o)

I made quite a few brown pups and was ready for my buttercream frosting to be gone so I could change to a different color. It kept multiplying so I finally just stopped and changed to white… this was my first white puppy…

I tried to make squiggles, and beards and fancy ears and wagging tongues, and all different looking puppies, so I’ll just show you some of them. You’ll see the ones that made me laugh, because I’m sure they’ll make you laugh too…

When I was all done, I decided they needed a bit of color so I mixed up some pink buttercream frosting and some green and piped a little flower on each pups head… well, there’s one that got a white bow… Here are some more shots of them…

I guess I took more pictures than I really needed to, but here are the rest…

Now, do you want to see what my kitchen looked like during this? It was a disaster… but it’s all cleaned up now…Rebecca came home from work and asked me if she finished my dishes, could I hem a pair of capri work out pants for her? Sure, you can wash all those couplers and decorator bags and all those tips with icing in them… I’ll go hem your pants! So see, even in the middle of making cupcakes, there was a little bit of sewing done…

I wondered how I was going to pack up the cupcakes and take them over to Sara’s house…

This is how I packed them up… I took a large pan and rolled and twisted up tissue paper and taped it down at the ends. I then used some shishkabob sticks to go crosswise on top of the tissue. I taped them down. It just made little squares for the cupcakes to sit in and not move around. The buttercream frosting hardened up, but it’s still sort of fragile on some of the beards and ears… :o)

Well, I hope that was fun…

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Ah, those turned out really cute! You have quite the imagination!! It’s so nice that you could make someones day like you did. I bet she loved them!

    1. HI Marla,
Nice of you to join us today and thanks so much for your compliments on my cupcakes… I just got back from taking them to Sara and she LOVED them and couldn’t stop looking at them. I’m sure she was figuring out which one was going to be hers! :o)
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

    1. HI Kathy,
I think they turned out pretty cute for the most part… Sara was happy…that’s what counts!
I’m already thinking of a schnauzer cake for my hubby’s birthday next week. Rebecca and I were just looking on Pinterest again and wondering if I could do a schnauzer cake…oh dear..what have I started for myself…
      Thanks Kathy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. OH, I am laughing so hard, Jeanne! Those are the most adorable cupcakes I have ever seen, and they sure have personality too!!!
Wish I could write more, but your blog didn’t come up for me early enough and now I am awaiting Willie to babysit for today. But oh, thoes cupcakes, sooooo cute! I don’t think I would want to eat them and then they are gone! Good thing you took pictures ! Is she having a cake too, or does she put a candle on the cupcake?
Thanks for brightening up the day with these darling cupcakes!

    1. HI Linda,
I am laughing right along with you… some of them are really comical!
I don’t think Sara was having a cake… just my cupcakes. When I took them over to her house, she and her dad were home and Edgar was taking a video of them and Sara looking at them. I think she was pleased.. I got SEVERAL hugs from her and him!
Her mom just called me, (she was in class) and she was flabbergasted at them. She showed a picture Sara sent her after I left and Alba showed it to her boss. Her boss wanted to know if she could hire me to make some kitty cupcakes for her daughter…
Oh dear… instead of the dresslady, I’ve become a catlady or doglady… Yikes!
      Thanks Linda,
Hope you’re having a good day babysitting Willie.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Your puppy cupcakes are darling! They are so much cuter than the ones you see in the store and I bet they taste better too! It was very sweet of you to make them.
Hope you have a good day.
    Take care.

    1. Thanks Charlotte,
I appreciate your sweet compliments on my pupcakes.. It was a lot of fun and I learned so much as the day went on. Maybe I’ll get some pictures of Sara’s party and can share them with you all…
      Thanks again,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. The cupcakes are amazing and I was laughing too when I saw their many different faces. The one with the mustache looks like Gabby Hayes? You can tell how old I am! Your cupcakes should be on Pinterest and earn an A+++. Can’t believe it’s the first time you’ve attempted that! Cupcake holder: Genius.

I’d like to let Laura know that Riya’s dress came from Dollcakes, https://www.dollcake.com.au, a firm in Australia that offers beautiful special-occasion dresses for young girls at fairly reasonable prices considering how complicated they are.

    1. Thanks, Susette. Those dresses are darling. They look very fairy- like and sweet. Reminds me a little of the Storybook Heirlooms and Wooden Soldier clothes I use to buy for my daughter for church/ special events. The problem I’ve encountered with some of those is when your child grows up and see pictures of herself in them she says “ugh, you dressed me in that!” *rolls eyes* I guess we all feel that way about some of our childhood clothes. LOL. I wish I had another little girl or granddaughter to dress up. That why I like dressing up my dolls, they don’t ever complain.

      1. Laura,
I used to get Storybook Heirlooms and Wooden Soldier catalogs in the mail when Rebecca was smaller. I copied lots of ideas from them. The other day one of my readers sent me the latest Wooden Soldier catalog. It was fun looking at them again. Does Storybook Heirlooms still exist? I’ll have to check…
        Thanks, Jeanne

    2. HI Susette,
Yep, you found Gabby! I didn’t send that one to Sara’s, but instead took 6 over to Jean and Bithar’s apartment for them and their kids. I figured they wouldn’t know a cute pup for a western dude, so they got him! Wasn’t it funny how it looked like a westerner?

Well, if my cupcakes ever made it on Pinterest, they’d be the ones that people would look at and say, “I think I can do that!” and not the ones that were being oooo’d and aaahhhh’d!

I haven’t looked at it yet, but I plan on looking at the link for Dollcakes… what a fun name for a little girls dress business!
      Thanks Susette,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. No post from Jeanne Marie today. Had to go to idreamofjeannemarie to view it. Why? Don’t know. Has happened before.
Love the cakes. What doggie talent you have! I’m sure Sara and buddies will enjoy.
We celebrated other persons birthday yesterday at Coppola on the terrace in beautiful sunny weather. After all of the rain it was wonderful.

    1. HI Joy,
I guess I was too sugared out last night when I did my post. I had it all ready to go, it was scheduled, but I forgot to hit the “publish” button. I didn’t realize it wasn’t on until 7:00 this morning.
Thanks for your compliments on the cupcakes… I just took them over to Sara’s house and she loved them. I was pleased that she wasn’t too picky. She hugged and hugged me, all while dad was taking video’s of the cupcakes…and Sara looking at them in the pan…
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Oh, Jeanne, the puppy cupcakes turned out beautifully. I love the expressions on some them and I really like the ones two two-toned or blended color frosting. The “grass” frosting tip makes the best fur. I’m sure Sara certainly appreciated your efforts and had a fun party with her friends.
Of course, the kitchen is a disaster after all of that, but it was nice that you could hand it over to Rebecca and sew instead and come back to a clean room.

    1. HI Laura,
I was getting tired of making white puppies and brown puppies, so I combined my buttercream frostings and made it two toned! I do like that grass tip too! I was looking at Schnauzer cakes and Schnauzer head cakes for my hubby’s birthday next week… He’d love a Reuben cake I’m sure. I think that grass tip would be just the thing for those long stringy beards and eye brows! We’ll see…
It was wonderful to not have to do the dishes and sew instead! It was a win win for both of us!
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. How adorable your puppies are, Jeanne. I just love them. Not only did you make puppies but they are all different puppies. They are just too cute. I don’t know which one I like best, as they are all so precious. What a kind and thoughtful labor of love, Jeanne. That’s our Jeanne!!!!
Have a wonderful and blessed day.

    1. Thanks Paula,
It was a lot of fun making the cup cakes and I know Sara and her little friends will enjoy them too. Yes, they are all different…I probably couldn’t duplicate any of them if I had to! :o)
I have been blessed already … when I delivered them…and now with all your sweet compliments!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. I am so impressed with your packaging.
If laughter is the best medicine, I hope George spent time in the kitchen deciding which cupcake was the funniest and then got a couple to eat.
As for Rebecca, a woman who volunteers to clean up after a project that complicated is a woman to hang on to.
I was picturing a horrible storm, a medical crisis — I never thought of simple forgetfulness as a reason for a blog-less dawn. I’m very happy that you solved the puppy-cake problem and didn’t have a problem — and you have a clean kitchen besides.

    1. HI Marilyn,
I can’t believe I forgot to hit the Publish button… how silly of me.. like I said, it was probably too much sugar in my system. When I woke up this morning, I looked to see if it had gone on okay, and there was nothing… I flew out of bed to see what was the matter , and discovered it was a “technical” error on my part. I quickly fixed it and went back to bed for another half hour.
Don’t you know I was thrilled to get out of doing all those nasty icing caked dishes? Sewing… yes! Dishes …no! It worked out perfectly for both of us!
      My kitchen is STILL clean!
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. What adorable pup-cakes, Jeanne, and yes, they did make me smile! How sweet and thoughtful of you to give little Sara her heart’s desire. I hope it was her best birthday yet. I also was wondering if you made a pup-cake in Reuben’s likeness for George? Your packing tray was a brilliant idea. In sewing, baking, and all your endeavors, your creativity and resourcefulness always shine through, and your giving heart is an inspiration to all. Wishing you a happy weekend!

    1. HI Anne,
Thanks for your sweet comments about my cupcakes… I really did enjoy making them and giving them to Sara today was truly the “icing on the cake!” She was thrilled and just kept hugging me.
Rebecca and I were just looking on Pinterest at Schnauzer cakes… so it might be in the works for his birthday next week. He’d love one I’m sure.
I’m not sure my pan with shishkabob sticks was necessarily brilliant but it worked well, and they didn’t even so much as rub an ear against each other when I transported them over to Sara’s place, so I guess it worked! :o)
      Thanks so much Anne,
I hope you have a wonderful weekend too!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. What cute cupcakes! Those tongues made me laugh. I have no doubt Sara was thrilled with them, and it was so sweet of you to make them for her. I was kind of surprised when I read what you wrote yesterday about the schools not allowing home-baked treats. It seems like times have certainly changed. I have to say I am so glad you showed the pictures of your kitchen–every time I decide to get creative in the kitchen, I make the most horrific mess. Good thing you had help with the cleaning.
I enjoyed everyone’s pictures yesterday. I would have loved to have seen the Downton Abbey exhibit, and of course any pictures of Magalies dolls are always appreciated. I’m totally in awe of the way she paints the eyes, and can hardly wait to receive mine.
I got through with work early today, and the weather is gloomy and rainy. I have the house to myself today and tomorrow so I am having some bonding time with the sewing machine.

    1. Thank you Carolyn,
I just got a picture from Sara’s mom that I’ll share tomorrow. I think the girls had a good time! It looked like it.
Yes, isn’t it sad that you can’t even take homemade treats to school anymore, only store bought? I just made 12 dozen cookies for a missions bake sale last week but it was in front of Hobby Lobby. I guess it just applies to school kids not your everyday kid…
I have a date with my house tomorrow..it is house cleaning for me though…wish it was a date with my sewing mavhine…
      Thanks Carolyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne
