I thought Felicity would get blue but her Christmas dress will be green…

A while back I think I showed some pictures of Christmas fabrics and sort of assigned them to certain dolls… Felicity was thinking she might be getting a blue dress, but as I was in my sewing room, trying to decide what fabric to use for her, this pretty green and cream linen fabric seemed to be my favorite choice. The fabric is VERY soft and lightweight so I know it will do well with gathers around the waist. It also presses very well for a nice clean, crisp look.

I have some vintage lace that Anita, one of my subscribers, sent to me and I’m using 2 of them on this dress… at least I think I am…
Now you’re REALLY going to have to use your imagination this time for Felicity’s dress as it’s just pinned together. I did get the bodice constructed and the sleeves set in, but the rest is just pinned in place…

Okay, who’s up for a “guessing” game… to see if you think you can figure out what I’m planning on doing with Felicity’s dress?

Here’s a close up of this really nice fabric…

Now here’s where you’ll have to really imagine what this might turn out to be…

Well, this is short, but that’s what happened in my sewing studio yesterday!

Don’t forget, American Girl Molly’s dress ends this evening on Ebay. To see it, you can click HERE.

…and yes, that’s Nyssa’s dress “relisted” on Ebay…it didn’t sell…. :o(

See you tomorrow,

I looked up “doll nyssa” on Ebay, and of the 39 listings, 38 were wigs. That means that Nyssa owners might not think to look on Ebay for clothes. Last time I looked, there were clothes, but they were all fantasy/goth. Etsy is somewhat better, with 88 results, with perhaps just under half wigs, some cute shoes, and some clothes, all less expensive and mostly not fantasy/goth but sort of everyday wear. Google images has a lot of Nyssa pictures, including your current auction, and, oddly, several of your non-Nyssa outfits, including one being modeled by Isabelle and one by your Wren and one of your own Ten Ping. As I see it, the problem is not the outfit, which is outstanding, but the marketplace — the outfit has to be where buyers might look. Somewhere there is someone who passionately wants that outfit, but it will take a near miracle for her to find it.

The Felicity dress appears to be definitely not in the usual Felicity style, but both interesting and attractive and I want to see what you do next. I do hope that you don’t have anything important to do today and can sew all day. Maybe today you could post at noon and 6PM, just to take care of my curiosity.

I have a Kit doll and her red Christmas dress with the gored skirt. The hair bow is very becoming, the magnetized pin is cute, the sleeves are nice, but the skirt has a hard time hanging neatly. I found that one of your petticoats, the short one with the soft blue lace skirt, works quite well to give the skirt body without too much fullness. The dress is slightly long waisted, so the wide stretch lace waistband works very well to put the bulk of the petticoat where it needs to be, and of course a chance to wear that froth of soft blue lace would make any doll happy.

    1. HI Marilyn,
Whenever I’m looking on Ebay for something that would fit Nyssa, I just type in Wiggs… that’s Kaye Wigg’s last name and everyone puts her name in their title. I know lots of fantasy and strange kind of dresses…that aren’t really my cup of tea…so I don’t think my “pretty” style dresses fit in so well. I guess why have “pretty” when you can “weirdly pretty?” Oh well… I’ve tried to so that kind of style and it doesn’t come easy to me…

I’m hoping I can pull off Felicity’s dress the way I hope it looks in my mind… you are too funny about the extra posts… :o)

I’m glad my slip is working well for your doll… they are pretty versatile slips…

Thanks for making my day, Marilyn,

  2. Funny, we are on the same wavelength, Marilyn. I looked up “Lian by Effner” on eBay to see if one might be available and saw dresses listed by others but not Jeanne’s wonderful dress. I tried several ways to get to it but didn’t find it. I suggested using Lian’s name, the maker and names of other dolls whom it would fit because these beautiful creations need a bigger audience. The Lian doll was over $1,000, way out of my price range!

Thanks for the complements on my granddaughter’s picture. I found a nice red flower headband at Joanne Fabrics yesterday, so saved me some sewing. Thanks again to you, Jeanne, for the inspiration to make the doll dresses and accessorize. What fun!

    1. HI Susette,
Lian was the name of the doll when I got her from Joyce Mathews but she’s not a doll with a name like the American Girl dolls…Felicity, Addy, Rebecca, etc… they are just names the artists give their dolls to distinguish them from the others… Lots of ladies rename their dolls but Lian was the perfect name to me…so I kept it…
Most of the time when you are looking for Dianna Effner dolls on Ebay, if you’ll just type in Effner Little Darling, or Effner 13″ they will generally all come up.

Well I guess Riya and Lian can pretend to be twins…long distance twins that is…
      Thanks so much Susette,
      Blessings, Jeanne

Jeanne, Felicity is one of my favorite AG dolls right after Molly. The new dress for her in the lovely green linen will be outstanding for Christmas. You have added that beautiful lace which makes this dress so special. Maybe Felicity will be the hostess at the family gathering of family and friends. I will be watching to see what you have designed for the skirt and hair elements.

    1. HI Jeannie and thank you so much for your sweet compliments on Felicity’s dress. I haven’t gotten as much done on it today as I had hoped, but I’m still working on it, and will into the evening… so we’ll see how much I get accomplished…
I hope I don’t disappoint you with how I finish it… I’ll try to make it pretty!!!
      Thanks so much Jeannie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Oh my, how lovely that dress will be when you get it finished, Jeanne! I love the soft green with her red hair! I bet you this dress will be finished before my dress for Felicity is! That is on the back burner until after Christmas, since I have her dressed in her Christmas finery now.

I made myself a dress with fabric almost like that back in the day when I made my own clothes. Same colors, same type of pattern, but I think mine was bigger. I always loved that dress and this rendition made me think of it again! The lace is just lovely and will add so much to the dress. What more can I say, I can’t wait for it to be finished!

    1. HI Linda,
I held the blue up to Felicity, then the green, and there was no comparison…I knew I had to use the green. It is so soft looking in person..even more so than in my pictures…
You’ll get your dress done one of these days… and I want to see it!!!

It’s funny how a design in a piece of fabric can bring back memories… I like it when that happens.. I want it to be finished too… but I’m still working on it…

      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. I’m with Linda on the fabric. It seems familiar so I must have had a dress too.
Anyway, it really looks lovely on Felicity, and I can’t wait to see what else you add to it. Perhaps a big bonnet?

    1. HI Joy,
It’s nice for you and Linda to remember dresses that you used to have that remind you of Felicity’s. It’s fun to be nostalgic isn’t it?
Thanks for your sweet comments on Felicity’s dress.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Oh this gown for Felicity is going to be beautiful. The lace is gorgeous and so elegant. I can’t wait to see how you finish it.
Jeanne, your blog is such a pleasant place to go to, especially when the world is going crazy. I enjoy reading what you write and what your followers write.
Have a great sewing day (if you are able to get in there)!
    Blessings!

    1. Thank you Paula,
I certainly hope it turns out beautiful… that’s the plan!
I appreciate you telling me how much you enjoy the blog posts each day…
I hope it is a bright spot in everyone’s day…that was my plan from the very beginning….to just give you a smile to start your day…
      Blessings, Jeanne
