I think it’s time for another Home Decorating Project…

It has been quite a while since I shared anything “non-dolly related” so I thought I would share a project that was really cheap to do! And I do mean R-E-A-L-L-Y cheap… I found this shelf along the road by someone’s trash. It actually was the trash of an antique shop down the road from me. I saw it was brown, looked like wood, had some girly looking curves to it, so I pulled in the next driveway, turned around and pulled in next to it. I got out as quick as I could, shoved it in the back seat without even looking at what I’d just nabbed. It didn’t really matter to me… it was a treasure… something to paint and put my “mark” on!

When I got home and took it out of the back seat and brought it inside and looked at my new find. This is what it looked like…

It actually had 5 tiers when I brought it home, but the middle one was really scuffed up, so I just unscrewed the legs and took that tier out. I turned it into a 4 tiered shelf. I was looking for something like this to use in my Master Bathroom, so I decided to paint it a creamy white. I worked on it in the house, so excuse the messy bookshelf…seeing that picture made me clean it all off…

I distressed it with some sand paper and then a sanding block.

I love how the distressing brings out all the details in it. They sort of got lost when it was dark brown.

It didn’t take very long at all and soon it was time to “check it out in the bathroom…”

A little decorating and instant gratification…for less than $5.00!

I love it!

Okay, now what’s next?

  1. Good job!! I love seeing ALL kinds of projects! I’m ready for a decorating house type project myself. Hmmmm…… Where to start? 🙂

    1. Thanks Cindy,
After seeing that painted floor last night, I’m ready to move out all my bedroom furniture and finally do it! But maybe I’ll start with the buffet first…just to get back in the swing of things.
Hope you find something fun to do! Let me know…
      Love you, Me

    1. Thanks Christine,
Yes it really was quite the transformation…from drab and dull to bright and white!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. What a nice treasure to find and great paint/distress job! It looks perfect in your bathroom. It appears to be just the right size for the spot you put it in. Very nice.

    1. Hi Paula,
Yes it is just perfect in the bathroom. Thanks for your comments.
Have a nice Saturday! I plan to!

You have some upscale trash in your area! I love to put items out by the tree on our street with a FREE sign on them. We are near a college so students are always looking for a free item to use. Sometimes we don’t even get the sign made and it’s gone 🙂
Hope you ha a great Saturday

    1. HI Kathie,
We do the same thing… we live outside of town, but we have a big tree that we lean things up against and bet how long it will stay there…we’ve put everything from doors, to couches, to bookshelves to toilets… never had to take anything back yet.
      Thanks Kathie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. My gosh, Jeanne! Like another poster said, you must have upscale trash in your area! I have never seen anything like that gorgeous table around here—some people have all the luck! Then too, you have to have a bathroom big enough to put it in. I guess having an older house allows you to do that. You did a wonderful job, it takes my breath away, and I love the little trinkets and such you have on it-just precious!!

    1. Thanks Linda,
Did you ever go “dumpster diving?” I won’t incriminate myself as to whether or not I have, but…. “treasure hunting” is something we love to do!
Thanks for liking it! I do too! It’s just big enough to hold some “pretties” in the bathroom and not take up too much space either.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. What a pretty shelf–I can’t believe it was in the trash! You really have a good eye for seeing the potential in things.

    1. Thanks Carolyn,
Truth be told… I might just be “cheap” is all! I love a good project and especially an “almost Free” one!
      Blessings, Jeanne
