I need a name for this Civil War dress…any suggestions?

Well, the Alterations Lady (that would be me!), managed to get the problem fixed with Rebecca’s dress. I’m not exactly sure what happened… maybe the fabric stretched a little bit when I pressed it, or perhaps it had a wrinkle underneath it when I cut the bodice out, or maybe when I stitched on the lace it pulled it out of shape just a bit, but for some reason one shoulder was almost 1/4″ longer than the other side. You could see it best in last night’s picture….

It took a while to rip the stitches out and redo the sleeve seam, but I finally got it! Oh happy day!

Much better, don’t you think?

Then it was time to get all the snaps sewn on… There were only 3 sets in the back of the bodice and one on each sleeve, so I got by pretty easy on this dress.

I hemmed the dress by hand and tried to make it tea length where the pantalettes could be seen…

I used the same lace on them as on the bodice, and I decided to leave them plain so they could be worn with other dresses if the winner likes. My lace was only about 4″ wide so I made the top of the pantalettes out of a printed cotton fabric. I know they had drawstring waists in the Civil War undergarments, but with all the different sized waists on dolls these days, I decided to use elastic. It won’t be seen and will work for any doll.

Here’s one last look at the dress… Now I need a name for it to use on my Ebay listing and YOU ALL ARE SO GOOD AT THINKING OF NAMES… :o)

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Yesterday Joy said something about Fall Festival, which I liked. We call the fall antique show Pumpkin Pie Days, or yesterday you said something about an Apple Festival or you could say Apple Pie Days. Fall in the Air. Autumn Leaves. Autumn Lace. Fall Flowers.

You could add a bouquet of leaves and fall flowers or an apple or something appropriate to the name you choose. Baskets work for fall. What have you added to Rebecca’s hair? I nearly missed it.

Those are the prettiest pantalettes ever.

I said something on AGPT about new AG clothes not fitting older dolls, mentioning Felicity in particular, and one of the women sent me a personal message recommending that I check out your blog because you made Felicity clothes that would fit older dolls and they were worth watching for. Admirers of your work are everywhere.

    1. HI Marilyn,
My day has been busy and I am just now getting to everyone’s comments and “oh my goodness” what great names everyone has thought of… I am writing them all down! I especially like Autumn Lace…that sounds so pretty and feminine…
Thanks for the heads up about AGPT people… I’ll get this one posted on there as soon as I finish it…
      Thanks so much,
      blessings, Jeanne

  2. The dress is just perfect for fall, and Rebecca is the perfect model for it, Jeanne. We have a fall festival in a little town nearby, Kimmswick, and every fall they hold an apple butter festival, with women showing their apple butter skills, apple butter this and apple butter that, along with other things to do. But it’s the apple butter that brings the people in. So, I ‘m going out on a limb and calling the outfit “Apple Butter Sweet”. Marilyn does have some good suggestions too, and maybe you could add a little jar of apple butter, real or not along with the outfit. A basket of apples would work too,.

Love the pantalettes, especially when they show beneath the dress, with that pretty lace.

On another note, can you believe, we have had NO rain here in St. Louis to speak of! Looks like I will be watering again today.

    1. HI Linda,
Thanks for your comments on Rebecca’s dress and your name… I see my sister even liked your name… Apple Butter Sweet! Well, I made a little jar of Strawberry jam for Felicity’s dress once before… so I guess I could make apple butter for Rebecca…
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Hmmm….Fall Fancy? or maybe Little Miss? I’ve had the post up on my computer all evening and my brain just isn’t working well, so guess I’ll let it go. I’m sure someone will have a good idea! Or two!

    1. HI Charlotte,
Thanks for your suggestions too… I’m making a list of names… they’re all good!
      blessings, Jeanne

  4. The outfit is beautiful. I have to agree with what Marilyn said, “you make the prettiest pantalettes ever.”
For a name, I like how Linda D. described it, “Perfect for Fall.”
Hope you have a good day.
    Take care.

    1. Thank you for your compliments on my pantalettes, Charlotte. I love this lace and it did work well for the pantalettes as well as her bodice.
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

    1. Hi Christine,
Wow, I’ve gotten quite a collection of new names for Fall and it’s wonderful… Thank you for your suggestion…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Lovely, Jeanne:). Rebecca is enchanting in her new dress. How about ” Autumn at Twelve Oaks?”
A sure winner whatever name you srlect!

    1. HI Shara,
I like your name too and added it to my list… How will I ever decide. I might have to have my hubby and Rebecca vote on the names…
      Thanks so much!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Marilyn had some good names and so did Christine. Golden Harvest, and Marilyn’s Fall In The Air, Fall Leaves and Apple Butter or Apple something ideas.
The dress is so sweet and has that autumn look.
Can’t wait to hear the name you choose and the story.

    1. HI Paula,
This is getting kind of hard… I want to use them all, but I have lots of new names to use for the rest of my “Fall collection” I guess.
      I hope I pick the right name… :o)
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Rebecca looks so prim and crisp in this lovely little number. What about fall desserts for the church supper. Maybe her pie will be the winner of a special ribbon.

    1. Hi Joy,
Oh dear… I need some small apple pies to use for props, I guess. This could get out of hand if I don’t watch it! :o) I love Rebecca’s dress and would have worn it if I lived back in 1860!
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings,Jeanne

  8. The dress is wonderful, Jeanne. Rebecca is awesome looking in it. Because you’re so keen on details, your work is one that shines. I love it!

The above names are all so fitting for the dress/narrative. I’ll add another into the mix-Autumn Cascade.

    Blessings!

    1. HI Becky,
Thanks for your addition of Autumn Cascade to the name list! Thank you too, for your kind comments on the dress. It has turned out prettier than I thought it would. I love that lace!
      Thanks again,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. Love the beautiful lace and the cameo is the perfect accessory. My name choice would be
Tea at Tara (with Scarlet). Just a small table, teapot, cup and saucer; maybe even a white battenburg lace umbrella as a prop. It just might be too sunny outside on the front porch.
Everyone know that a girl needs lovely dress for teatime.

Putting in my vote for another “Felcity” dress in the near future. You have created some of the most beautiful dresses in the past and it is very difficult to choose between them.

Hope you are enjoying your beautiful new floor. You wake up, walk into the living room and ask yourself, is this beautiful room mine?

    God Bless and Keep You,
    Laureen

    1. HI Laureen,
I know you want a Felicity dress to be made so badly…I’ll get to her soon! Thanks for your mention of a name… Tea at Tara… I’ve never done a “Gone with the Wind” dress, but have always wanted too… Maybe Tea at Tara will be my first!
I DO love my new floors and still can hardly believe they are covering those crummy plywood floors!
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. The names that have been listed are all cute and creative. I’m not feeling clever at all so I’m glad you have good choices already ?
It will be fun to see which direction you go and what accessories you create.
I hope you do the Tea at Tara dress Laureen suggested. That’s a great theme .
    Later……

    1. Thanks Kathie,
I did get some really wonderful names for this dress and some “upcoming” dresses!
      I liked the,Tea at Tara idea too…
      Thanks so much Kathie,
      Blessings, Jeanne
