I have the nicest subscribers…

You may remember a post I did back in December about a young woman named Thulie. (HERE) I told about how she was given an American Girl doll by a co-worker named Sherry. Well, one of my subscribers, Susette, wanted to make Thulie’s new doll an outfit and when she sent me pictures of it, with her Molly modeling it before it was sent off, I just had to share it with you. It is so adorable and I’m sure Thulie went crazy over it when she received it. I found out Thulie named her doll Thando.

Isn’t that the cutest, most adorable little outfit…from the hat, down to the shoes… She even beaded her necklace and made the bracelet. I think Susette did a wonderful job and I wanted to showcase it for her sweet giving spirit. It looks pretty cute on Molly…I can’t imagine it looking any cuter on Thando. Thank You Susette for your kind heart.

Susette also sent me a picture of “The Adventures of Ten Ping” climbing up on a new dresser that she just received in the mail. She told me Ten Ping was trying to get up on top of the dresser to read the “big girls” books… :o) (I hope the picture isn’t sideways…when I uploaded it, it turned sideways so I rotated it.)

Now, I have a guessing game for you… as you know this week is super busy for me because I’m getting ready for a Sweetheart Banquet for the Married Couple’s at my church. I have lots to do, but today I got something done that takes a little time… I always have some kind of glass jar and fill it with candies… I count each piece as I put it in the jar and everyone gets a chance to guess how many candies are in it. Whoever guesses the closest without going over is the winner. I thought I’d show you the jar… it’s 7 1/4″ tall and 3 inches wide… and let YOU all have a guess… Remember it’s “whoever guesses the closest without going over” that will be the winner. When you leave your answer in the comments below or in an email…try to look at the other answers so I don’t have any duplicates. If I do have two people who guess the same thing I’ll draw one name. ALSO, when you leave your comment, tell me which dolls you collect.. just say something like: American Girl, Ten Ping, Patsy Tonner, Little Darlings, etc… That will help me with the winners prize…you can guess until midnight tonight. (Illinois time/Central Zone) I will let you know who is the winner tomorrow.

Okay, so here’s the jar…start guessing…

  1. Oh, what an ADORABLE outfit Susette made! Where did she get her know-how on the pattern and material? I’m just floored at how wonderful people can be! Susette, you are to be commended for your generosity and craftsmanship! Maybe you could get a picture of Thando modeling it.

That candy jar—-tricky! The M&M’s can add up fast and throw a person off when counting, but I’m saying about 75 pieces of candy are in there. Although I do have a variety of smaller dolls, I only collect for American Girl dolls. The others just stand there looking pretty and getting dusted off now and then—-mostly then!!

    1. HI Linda,
You can read all about the outfit straight from Susette a few comments down… Isn’t it sweet and wasn’t that the sweetest gesture?
I’ve got your guess down, Linda… thanks for playing along…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. My guess is 175 pieces of candy….American Girl, Hitty, Silkstone.

I hope you are having a fun time getting ready for the banquet this weekend. No doubt your creative juices are flowing each step of the way. Enjoy!

    Take care.

    1. HI Becky,
I am having fun with all the party planning and my hubby is even getting in on the action too. Usually he lets me come up with all the ideas… I got lots accomplished but still more to do tomorrow…
Thanks for your guess on the candy jar…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. My guess is 69 pieces of candy and I have Patsy, Ann Estelle, and Ten Ping dolls. Susette’s outfit is adorable!

    1. HI Regina,
Thanks for your guess and the compliment to Susette.
I mailed off your necklace either yesterday or the day before, I can’t remember…
      Thank you,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Oh, Jeanne, I’ve enjoyed your Posts so much but never thought I’d be in one of them. A return to sewing has been so much fun after so many years. I used McCalls pattern M6855, part of the one I used for an Indian sari for my granddaughter as her mother is Indian, born in Kenya. I had never done any beading before and it was a challenge to find the right beads. I haven’t heard from Thulie but I have a picture taken by Sherry of Thulie receiving the doll clothes in January at a church meeting.

I made the green dress with suggestions for a sash, bow, flower on the front and dropped waist.from my six-year-old granddaughter, Riya, to wear for her piano recital I also made the same dress for Riya’s Truly Me American Girl doll and one for Ten Ping, but the bow in back was too big for Ten Ping’s dress. I was taught to sew by my mother, as a lot of us were. I saw Lian looking in the mirror in Jeanne Marie’s picture and found the shelf on eBay, listed under Dolls. Imagine that! I consider all of the many doll purchases I’ve made in the last few months to be birthday presents to me on a significant birthday coming up in a few days! When I unearthed my Mary Hoyer doll from childhood, it was in pieces, the rubber bands holding her together disintegrated! I love all the suggestions and information about dolls and techniques, equipment and how to alter patterns on the Jeanne Marie Posts. Thanks to everyone for all the inspiration.

P.S. It was the first time I ever had a problem with a picture not wanting to go Portrait from Landscape. Very frustrating. It’s the combination of computer programs. Grrrrr!!!

    1. HI Susette,
Since the post has been running all day, and I have over 200 visits, so I guess you’ve gotten more than your 15 minutes of fame! That’s nice… you deserved it for what you did for Thulie and Thando! Thanks for telling us about making it… and the pattern number… I forgot to mention that.

I have written down an idea for a future post something about your green dresses. One of these days I’ll get that in a post…
Thanks for playing along with the “candy” game…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. 125. I have AG and LD dolls.

Susette, I love that outfit. Thulie and Thando will be thrilled. I hope we get a picture of Thando in it.
Ten Ping’s dresser is wonderful. Where did you find it?

Jeanne, did your snow melt? Ours finally did. There’s surely another storm coming, but it looks like rain, not snow, on Monday. That will be strange.

    1. HI Marilyn,
I have your guess down and who you collect… thanks!

I think Susette found the dresser on Ebay… it’s sweet isn’t it?

Yes, our snow is mostly gone and I’m sure it will all gone by tomorrow… we might up to 67 degrees! I was going to wear a sweater to my party… I might have to rethink it…
      Thanks for playing along…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. 62 pieces popped into my mind and then reconsidered and decided to go with the 62. I have changed direction in collecting. Moved on from LD and have three Ippkehouse BID dolls. Jointed dolls are more fun and I added a Sasha with one to arrive soon. Few joints with them but I once had a collection and still have the clothing I made for them. Anyway, Iplehouse girls have my heart right now.

    1. HI Jan,
I love the BID Iplhouse dolls…and think Elin needs a sister. They ARE fun to pose…
So you’re getting a new Sasha doll soon, how fun!!!
      Thanks for guessing,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. That’s a *wonderful* outfit/gift for Thulie’s doll! Does Thulie sew? I have SO many leftover African prints that I don’t use anymore – when I was working, my AA co-workers kept me busy with sewing things for them and their family members… I could share some with Thulie if you think she’d like some to sew with… 🙂

I’m going to guess 118 pieces of candy in that jar! I won’t be surprised if I’m wrong because I’m never ‘close’ in guessing games like that! LOL!!

The biggest part of my doll collecction are Bleuette and Rosette dolls… next would be Kish Chrysalis/Bethany/Kish baby dolls… I have several of the Horsman Urban Vita’s, and Hitty’s…LOTS of cloth dolls (vintage ones, and ones I’ve made)…and lots of miscellaneous dolls – Betsy’s, Ginny’s, Strawberina’s, Tony. This is the year that I’ve been adding to my AG crew, tho… I only had one for years…but, there’s 3, now…and one ‘on the way’. So, the AG doll is who I’ve been doing my sewing/playing with for the past several months.

    1. HI Mary,
I’m not sure if Thulie sews or not… but I think when she got Susette’s outfit, she’d change Thando into it and leave it on her a long time. It was so sweet!
I’ll see if I can find out if she sews…maybe Susette knows…

It sounds like you have plenty of dolls at your house… but I have you down for AG if you happen to win…
Thanks so much for playing along…
      Blessings, Jeanne

    1. HI Janis,
Susette’s outfit is adorable, I totally agree and it does look like an authentic outfit, doesn’t it?
Thanks for playing the “guessing game” with us…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. How sweet of you, Susette. That outfit is just adorable and I’m sure Thulie will be delighted to have it. What a wonderful job you did on the necklace as well. That must have taken quite a while to bead.I was curious what the name Thando meant. I chose my daughter’s names not only because I liked them, but I also like the meaning behind the name. I looked up Thando and it means “love” in Zulu, appropriate don’t you think?
Hope your party preparations are going smoothly. My guess is 137 pieces of candy. Candy in a jar is always hard to guess and I collect Pleasant Company/American Girl.

    1. HI Laura,
How neat that you looked up the meaning of Thulie and it means Love! Fitting for a chaplain like she is…
The preparations are going pretty smoothly.. lots done and still lots to do…
I knew you’d be down for AG dolls with your guess…
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. Amazing work Susette! You are so thoughtful.
Love your new little dresser/shelf. Looks like Ten Ping is finding it challenging as well. Don’t slip little one!
Jeanne, my little friends include: Ann Estelle/Patsy, Hearts for Hearts, Ten Ping, AG, Kish Riley/Bethany. Wish I had a LD and a Linda Macario Penny. Maybe some day.
I throw in the guess of 127! Thanks for the fun contest.

    1. HI Joy,
It looks like Ten Ping is almost a rock climber…she’s doing pretty well, I think…
Oh, I wish you had a Little Darling too… they are so adorable… but you have some sweeties already… no worries!!
      Thanks for guessing,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. I love the outfit that Susette made for Thulie’s doll.

As for the candy jar – my guess is 93 pieces. I am currently drawn to collecting the LDs.

I really loved the idea of another of your subscribers who bought an 18″ doll and sewed doll clothes for donation at the holidays. I am going to do the same thing in my area. It’s a fun way to keep the creative juices on a sewing binge.

The picture of Ten Ping was sideways when I opened my mail and it so reminded me of an incident with my daughter (a voracious reader) who toppled from a chair trying to get to a stack of library books on a buffet. Thanks for the memory jog!

    1. HI Maureen,
I’m glad you are going to do the “doll with clothes” thing in your area when Christmas rolls around. That WAS a neat idea… I have to admit!
You made me smile when I read about your daughter and her “chair” incident… just like Ten Ping’s episode.. I bet Susette had Ten Ping fall of that chair a few times herself…
      Thanks for guessing, Maureen,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  11. Oh what fun she will have with that adorable outfit! Beautiful colors and sewing skills too
I see it really prompted some interesting responses….you do have some very sweet readers
    Hummmm candy guess is 98
    Dolls I collect…
    Shirley’s
    Little Darlings
Dionne’s. The 11 inch ones and the 8 inch and maybe the 16 inch with hair in the future
The 4seasons by Helen Kish….love them
Better stop or this will go on forever ?

    1. HI Kathie,
Thanks for guessing the candy along with everyone else…

It seems that you have an abundance of dolls at your house…the more the merrier!
Thanks so much for your sweet comments about Thulie’s new doll outfit… It is adorable and I love the colors too…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  12. How sweet of you Susette to make Thulie a dress! You’re a very thoughtful and sweet lady.

My guess on the candy is 147 pieces. Your annual party sounds like great fun every single time you do it! I know it will be a great success this time, too!

My dolls are many and varied. I’ve been mostly occupied with the lady dolls right now, but for child dolls I have Kish Riley, who is always part of my life. Tonner Patsy has been played with recently, too. Lately, though, I have a teeny Puki Puki Ante BJD that I love and she shares her toys with Tiny WI Amelia.

    1. HI Allie,
I’m glad you thought guessing the candy from my candy jar wasn’t too silly to participate in… and yes, we always have a great time at the parties… I’m hoping it’s a success!!

It sounds like you like your girls on the “little” side… sweet, when they are small, aren’t they?
      Thanks so much, Allie,
      Blessings, Jeanne
