I can’t thank you enough…

This will probably be the last post on the ups and downs of my mom’s move to a new place. I need and WANT to get back to my sewing and I’m sure I won’t get any BOO’s from you all. Thank you for your patience during all this.. There was just no way I could do any sewing while all this was going on…

If you missed Saturday’s post, you can see it HERE.

To all the ladies and gents who have been by my side during the long journey of getting my mom moved…THANK YOU!!!

You have no idea how your comments have blessed and encouraged not only me, but my mom as well. I told her Saturday morning that I showed her new apartment on my blog post and then I showed her the pictures and proceeded to read the parts of all your comments where you told how homey and bright and inviting it all looked. When I read Linda’s comment where she said it looked like a Better Homes and Gardens home she got all teary eyed and told me she loved it too!! It was a real breakthrough and you all had a part in it! I was so touched by your kind comments and inquisitive questions you asked…so was momma.
I thought I’d answer some of them.

I didn’t make the quilts on her bed, but I have made a few in the past. She loves pretty quilts and piles them on high when she goes to bed…

The little white table beside her bed was an antique Cindy found and painted for her. I just love it! She had a long crocheted table skirt on it at her house but when she got to her new apartment she wanted it uncovered. I love the “toes” on it.

The white bed was painted by momma.(so was the red bed) It has pretty brass balls as accents and one of my favorite pieces she owns.

The chifferobe in her bedroom was practically black when she got it….you know, that kind of tar finish on old pieces? She stripped and refinished it herself many years ago and it’s one of her favorite pieces.

Yes, that is my mom in the mirror…she was glad that the picture wasn’t a close up of her. :o) Isn’t that a GREAT walk in closet??? She also stripped and stained the dresser that you see her reflection in. The chest that matches it is in the small bedroom. She has had it for as long as I can remember.

The nativity set on the small gold buffet was something my mom brought back from Italy when we were there. The gold buffet is one of her very favorite pieces and she wanted to make very sure there was a place for it in her new apartment. She’s not 100% sure where she got it, but she sure does love it.

The little carved picture above her bookshelf is from Germany. It was always a favorite of us kids. If you can, zoom in on that picture and look at it up close. Its really fun to look at…

They are having a contest to see who has the best decorated Christmas door…I heard the ladies talking about a door all decorated in “Frozen” style. We didn’t know about the door contest until it was all set up by Cindy. I don’t think I’ll change it. Momma likes her little flicker candle.

Thank you for the song lyrics you shared with us, Laureen. How very true they are and I’m so sorry for your losses.

Well, I guess that’s enough “trivia” for today…I wanted to answer you all SO much, but just HAD to get my house back in order over the weekend.

I’m really hoping to find my way back to my sewing room sometime this week…I may have missed it as much as you have… m-a-y-b-e more!! :o)

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Dear Jeanne, you have posted often previously about the day to day things you have done for your mother with much love and great patience.
Step back – remember all your mother did for you, and Now rejoice in the things you and your sisters are doing for her.
    You are a wonderful

  2. Exactly, like Jane says, step back and remember all the things your mother did for you! I now can see where she got the creative juices flowing in her children! I can’t believe she redid the beautiful chfferobe herself! And the beds too! I just love al the special little touches in her apartment that make her feel at home, and yet, there is something new and fresh to look forward to each day. She is one lucky momma!
And Jeanne, thank you for showing the way for others on how to treat parents when they no longer are able to do it themselves. They might get cranky and “ornery” sometimes, but it takes a person of faith and strength to see it through…..and you did!

    Let the sewing begin!

  3. I have wondered where all that talent that runs in your family came from — all the ability to see something and know what it could be — the fabric that turns into dresses, the battered antiques that turn into treasures. It didn’t suddenly emerge in your generation. I wonder what your grandmother was like.
This is one more challenge you and your family has met with talent and grace. It will be lovely to be back in your own house with this project behind you, and to know that your mother is safely at home in her new beautiful apartment. I hope you are ready for a beautiful, smooth flowing Christmas season.

  4. Thank you for the background stories about Mom’s special pieces. It is the stories, kept alive through the retelling, that makes them special. Mom’s talent, love, and patience shows in the pieces she touched.
Hope your week gets off to a good start.
    Have a good day!
    Take care.

  5. Your mother has some beautiful things. I sincerely hope that she is very happy for a long, long time in her new place. Great job you and your sisters did. I really love the china cabinet in the living room. Did she paint that? What a treasure.

  6. I thought I recognized what had to be some beautiful refinishing in the pictures. I’m glad you inherited the sewing and Cindy the refinishing talent. I remember the posts about you and Cindy refinishing the gray-blue cabinet and putting in the light. My mother’s apartment had the same layout and the drop-leaf table was the only thing bought to accommodate the small size of the kitchen. Everything else brought memories and made it home. Thanks for sharing this lovely story of you love with us. Momma will soon wonder what took so long and what a relief it is to be settled.

  7. It was really nice to hear the stories about your mother’s furniture. She has a beautiful apartment and all of you helped her arrange it. I agree with all things said by the girls above me. Your mom must be so proud of her children. I’m so happy your mom is feeling better about her move.
Our mothers are wonderful women and they deserve the best. I’m so glad you are feeling better and more reassured your mother is going to enjoy her new home and friends.
I wish your family the best, Jeanne.

  8. Just like you to thank us. But, you’re welcome. So happy for you and siblings to know this has really happened and that the new fully decorated place to call home has certainly made it easier for your mother. Such an enjoyable new home.
My curiosity is perked. Wonder what the next sewing item will be and who will model?
And now it’s time to decorate your own home for the holidays. If you haven’t yet, you are not alone. 🙂

  9. Hi Jeanne,
So happy to hear your mom is settling into her new place. I knew she would. Finding a new friend right away… well how nice was that! You Momma’s apartment really is so very pretty. I’m sure she’ll be very happy there for a long time. It’s awesome that she’s so much closer to you. I also know this change has been very hard on you and your siblings. My prayers are with you and your family.
Hoping you find some time for yourself, I think you need and deserve it.
    Hugs
    Ingrid

  10. Omgosh, her apt is just lovely! It will be so much easier to take care of and talk about perfect! You and Cindy did a wonderful job. I’d move in asap!
Hope you can settle in and have a “normal” week… whatever that is. ?

  11. Dear Jeanne, Hello and welcome back, although you never really left us. You made sure to stay in touch. And here we all are still sitting on the sofa waiting to hear what you will share next. I think it’s my turn to refresh the tea pot. Let me just get the kettle going.

Thank you for your post, Jeanne, and for answering all of our many questions! I hope you had a chance to sew–at least a little!–today!

I think it was brilliant to read some of our comments about your mom’s new apartment to her–I would imagine she was a little pleased with that bit of attention, as well as helping to reaffirm that, yes, this IS a nice place, and is starting to feel like home!
