I can only go so long without making a Civil War dress…

Just like the title says, the next dress coming up will be one for your dolls who live in the Civil War era. I spent some time looking through my illustrated dress books and sorting through my fabrics and finally settled on an idea. I’ve had this fabric for a little while and think it will work for what I have in mind.

You’re really going to have to use your imagination on this pieced together dress.

It’s probably the worst “drape” job I’ve ever shown you. I just wanted you to see the start of it.

I think it looks pretty nice on Rebecca’s skintone, so she will be the model this time.

I quickly looked through my buttons and pulled out these, but I may find something better tomorrow…

I only have 3 fat quarters of this fabric, so it will be a young girls mid calf length dress, but I think a pair of pantalettes will be perfect out of the white embroidered cotton lace.

I think I can squeeze in some sewing time tomorrow…but everytime I say that, something comes up, so I’m not holding my breath!

Three of the little hat sets sold, and I just about jumped out of my chair! Thank you!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Wow….well, I’m glad 3 of the hats sold so far…thanks for including the measurements.

Rebecca’s dress will be so pretty on her. I’m always amazed at the combinations and beauty of how you put everything together…you’re very gifted in this…just like your sisters!

    Blessings.

    1. Becky,
Thank YOU for mentioned in about the measurements…I forgot to do that, but was able to add them before the listing started.
I’m glad you see some “beauty” in the fragments of Rebecca’s dress I showed…
      Thanks Becky,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Rebecca’s Civil War dress is going to be charming. I’m at the library again because my new, old computer did an update and now isn’t working I have a friend that is going to look at it, but he may not be able to get to it for a few days. So frustrating!! His job is to fix computers and he has to do the client ones first obviously. I’ve got to get going on my errands. Have a good weekend.

    1. Hi Laura,
I’m glad Rebecca’s dress is looking good to you…so far…
I hope your computer problems all work out over the weekend.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Lovely fabric! It is just perfect for early autumn. And I love your buttons! I think whichever you choose will be spectacular. I’m looking forward to seeing the outfit develop.
Hope you have a good day.
    Take care.

    1. Hi Charlotte,
I thought this fabric looked a little bit “Fallish” too, but not “too” much…there will still be warm days ahead!
      Thank you, Charlotte,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. The hats! The pleasure of buy it now! Congrats. I’m hoping they appear in your Etsy shop soon too.
The dress to be for Rebecca is simply lovely. Looking forward to seeing more completed in the next few days as time allows. All of the button choices look great too. Fun, fun, fun.

    1. Hi Joy,
Yes…the “joys” of buy it nows! There really does need to be 3 or 4 of me to get everything done.
I’m glad you like the start of the new dress.
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Oh, I like the material chosen. Excellent for the Civil War era. It will be exciting to see how you pull this outfit together.
Your idea for making little hatboxes (for display) to sit on the white shelf you used for your hats or those styrofoam heads modeling the hats would be so cute. Your scenes are always so cute and inviting.
    Enjoy your day.

    1. Thanks Paula,
It really is a pretty piece of fabric…I’m working on the dress right now.
I went to lunch with a friend today and I was going to look for some little hat boxes bit I forgot. 😮 (
      Thank you Paula
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. She will be the perfect model for that fabric! The Cameo couldn’t match any better ☺️
    Enjoy putting it together!
Wow 3 hats sold already! Just curious….did they want the fabric too?
    Congratulations!

    1. Hi Kathie,
I think Rebecca will make a great me del too. She was thrilled to be chosen!!
Yes, the fabrics were all chosen for the hats!
      Thank you, Kathie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Oh gosh, three hats gone already! I really do love that brown hat so much! Am waiting to see if the measurements will fit Betsy. But the brown hat would look beautiful with that material you have started with Rebecca, if it had blue flowers. I know, she is 18 inches, and the hats are for the smaller dolls, but if you could make bigger sizes, that would be so pretty!

Oh the new dress is going to be just lovely, Jeanne! You never fail to please! Love the white lacey fabric for the top and the buttons are perfect! You just have to pick one, I guess!

    1. Hi Linda,
I just put the brown hat on Betsy so you can see it for yourself. My Betsy has a very very thick wig with bangs about a quarter of an inch thick but you can see it on her for yourself.
Thanks for the compliments on the new dress. I hope to show some more of it tomorrow.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Everything is beautifully chosen! Rebecca is a very special doll. With interest I’ll look at the finished dress. Inspiration to you, Jeanne.

    1. Thank you for your kind compliments on this new dress, Oksana.
I’m glad you enjoy seeing it come together.
      Thank you so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne
