How about some dolly birthday dresses…

Today’s my birthday and I’m sitting here at the computer, at a loss about what to write. As I was just thinking about it, what I really want to say is thank you to all of you who are my new friends…friendship is the best gift ever! I enjoy your thoughts and comments so much and love checking in each day to see what you all are up to. I have received some birthday cards and thank you in advance for thinking of me. I can’t wait to open them!

My hubby asked me what I wanted to do… go out to dinner, go on a road trip somewhere and go shopping? I told him what I’d really like to do is work on the floor so we can get our new flooring installed. That was okay with him. So I’ll get up early, put something in the crock pot and hopefully have a nice work day… then a nice dinner at home.

I was thinking about the doll dresses that I have made that were specifically made as birthday dresses. I have lots and lots of Easter dresses, Valentine dresses, Christmas dresses, school dresses, but not so many dresses involving a birthday party. I could only think of 2 dresses where the doll was actually going to a birthday party…and both of those dresses were for Janie.

Here is Janie in the first birthday dress set. She even has her present in the pictures… :o)

This is Janie in the second birthday dress set. She looks pretty cool and comfy in her pink and white polka dotted dress, doesn’t she?

Well, I thought that’s going to be a pretty pathetic birthday post, so I picked a few dolls off the top of my head and looked at their archived pictures and found a few that I thought might pass for “birthday dresses!” I hope you enjoy them.

This is Bitty Bethany, by Helen Kish, in a hankie dress that was one of my absolute favorites. I searched for another hankie just like this one for probably 2 years, but finally gave up…

I thought Nellie looked like she might be going to a birthday party… so she was picked!

Rebecca was dressed up in a cute pink and green floral print and she had this adorable poodle… I guess it caught my eye, because she made it in the line up for looking like a birthday dress…

Elizabeth may be going to a birthday party. It’s an outdoor party if she is…

And the last doll who got chosen to represent “birthday dresses” is Patsy. She’s in a sweet little colorful set that was chosen by you as one of your top favorites a few years ago…

So that’s going to be my birthday post. I am very blessed to be celebrating my 61st birthday and am so grateful to the Lord for the life that He has allowed me to live.

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. What a perfect choice for your birthday, and it’s exactly what my dad, who shared this birthday, would choose — good work followed by a good dinner. And a pie, which he preferred to cake. Pineapple cream pie would probably have been his choice. Some years a trip is the right thing, and some years a new floor is the best thing.

I love Janie in that red wig, but then, I like Janie in all her wigs. What a nice, versatile doll that is.

You could re-create the dress Elizabeth is wearing and sell it in 2 minutes. See how fresh and summery that hat is. It must have been a trick to pack so that the flowers would stay perfect.

Happy Birthday, Jeanne, and many, many more to come!

  2. Happy, Happy Birthday to you, dear Jeanne Marie! This is your special day, and I am hoping you enjoy it as fully as you can! I agree with you wholeheartedly that getting your floor done and having a nice dinner at home is the best thing. I’d do the same!
I remember one time, recently, it must have been my birthday, and I wanted nothing but some hot dogs and potato salad for dinner, at home, no less, so that’s what we did! I’m not fancy!!
Gosh, those dresses are darling! Like Marilyn said, Elizabeth’s dress is wonderful, and we need more dresses of that type for our Felicity’s and Elizabeth’s. Janie’s pink dress is so pretty, and I love the lace cut outs on Nellie’s dress too. I absolutely love Patsy’s dress with the hanky apron! So delicate looking! I could go on and on, but then my comments would be longer than your blog!
Wishing you a wonderful day, and do exactly as you please, you deserve it, Jeanne! Much love to you!

  3. Happy birthday Jeanne! I love reading your blog every day with my morning coffee. Thanks for sharing your life with all of us each day!

  4. Happy Birthday!
I hope it is a wonderful birthday and you make lots of progress on the new floor. While you are working on it, I hope you have some laughs and create more good memories.
All the birthday (party) dresses are just beautiful. You have such a good eye for color and design.
    Have a great (birth) day!
    Take care.

  5. Happy, Happy Birthday ~
I am one of your “silent” readers – I love to visit your blog when time allows and usually catch up reading weeks of posts at a time. I wish you a very happy birthday full of fun, joy and laughter.

I love when you post several dresses from the past and I am always amazed at your imagination, the fantastic way you pair fabrics and trims and of course your beautiful, professional sewing.

Thank you for sharing so many tutorials – your blog is like an online class not only helping us to strive to improve our sewing skills but more important life & caring skills. You and your wonderful husband are always there to lend a helping hand and generously give of yourselves.

May God bless you with the best birthday ever!

    Leigh

  6. I always think there couldn’t be dresses that I haven’t seen before, but there always are! Where did you find the square of picot with the embroidery on Nellie’s dress and what was it before it became an embellishment on a Jeanne Marie creation? What wonderful creations. Have a wonderful birthday with surely some surprises today.

    1. Riya’s other grandmother and family were evacuated by boat today from their home just north of the Addicks Dam in Houston. I’m glad because I was so worried that they would try to stay. Wishing everyone health in Houston and all of the coast.

  7. Happy birthday, Jeanne???
Love seeing your past birthday girls. I think my favorites are Elizabth and Bitty Bethany, although all your dreses are adorable:) That hanky dress is beyond sweet!

We just replaced the aging parquet flooring throughout the house .. it was a job but we love the new look .. a soft driftwood gray wood. I don’t know how to post photos on your blog or I would
show you. Cant wait to see your new “birthday floors!”
    Enjoy your special day!

  8. Happy Birthday, Jeanne. I hope your special day is filled with many blessings.
All the dresses are lovely, but I especially like Nellie’s with the big shoulder ruffles.
My computer is on it’s last legs so I am at the library now. I have to make this short because I have a number of errand to run today. I may not be on until Thursday or Friday because I’m going to have to get a new computer .

  9. Happy Birthday, Jeanne! I share this birthday with you but one year behind, so you know what big year this is for me! Yikes! I usually take my birthday day off from work, but this year I decided I deserved the whole week off, so I’m on vacation! 🙂 When my husband asked me what I wanted to do for my birthday, I told him I want to go to Lowes and get a new storm door with a doggie door in it. He thinks I’m crazy… but I think my dog would love it.

I love reading your posts every day, and it’s okay if they aren’t all about sewing! I lived with particle board floors and some bare stud walls in my kitchen and living room for 12 years, so I know what you are going through in being anxious to get things done. I can’t wait to see your end results! We put a “laminate that looks like stone” floor in the kitchen and I really love it. It’s been down about 3 years, and Linus, my miniature Labradoodle, hasn’t made a scratch on it. He gets absolutely no traction on it!

    Have a great day!

  10. Love all of the birthday dresses. There is just something magic about seeing special dresses and knowing that a party is involved. Reminds me of cake somehow!
I’ve written down a small list of some favorite old movies. Would be great to add more. Be glad you’re not as old as these movies 🙂
    The Egg & I 1947
I Remember Mama (Irene Dunn) 1948
    Cheaper By the Dozen 1950
Have a great birthday getting that plywood ready for flooring, and be sure to come up and step outside for fresh air. Just thinking of your beautiful floors to come is exciting.
    Happy day!

  11. Happy Birthday dear dear Jeanne!! I hope your day of working on the floor and a crockpot dinner sounds wonderful. Knowing that the floors are coming soon, is difinatelt making this hard work worthwhile and wonderful hope. God bless you dear on this special day.

You know how I’m infatuated with your fashion shows. These party dresses are just gorgeous and throughout the photo reviews, I found myself shaking my head in amazement at the detail and color codinations. You are the best!!!!
I can’t wait to hear about the floor progress, the yummy dinner and the next dress you’re planning on designing.
I’ m beginning to feel better and what better way to start my day with a “spot” of tea and your blog!
    Blessings- love you!!

  12. Happy Birthday, Jeanne, and many, many happy returns of this day to you also.
Thanks for sharing it with us.

Your work is so charming, I never tire of the beauty and creativity that you’ve shared with us over the years. It makes my day each day as I read your blog and see your photos.

    Blessings.

  13. Happy Birthday! I am glad that God has preserved and sustained you too. I enjoy seeing the fruits of your talent and know that there are many talents and much fruit that we do not see. May you have a blessed and happy year.

  14. Not sure why my first paragraph was worded so poorly and the misspelled word! My goodness! Sorry.

Marilyn, like your dad preferring pie for his birthday my husband prefers pie as well. His choice since he was little is black raspberry pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. We end up buying as many black raspberries as we can, freezing them and making pies throughout he year.

  15. Good Morning Jeanne!
Looks like I got back from vacation just in time to wish you a Happy Birthday.
Soooo Happy happy Birthday to you! I need to catch up on blog reading. There never seems to be any down time when you go away. It feels like we tired to squeeze in as much fun as we could. I think I need a vacation from my vacation because I’m pooped! LOL
I’m glad to see you are doing something you want to do on your special day. Enjoy the day.
    Hugs
    Ingrid
PS love all those pretty dresses, birthday or not ; )

  16. Didn’t want the day to go by without wishing you a Very Happy Birthday, Jeanne!! Hope your work goes smoothly, your dinner is delicious, and you get some time to just relax tonight!! Love and hugs, Ali

  17. Hi everyone,
We just finished (almost) the prep work for the floor a little while ago. I read all of your comments and want to thank you all, but I can’t get to them tonight…maybe tomorrow.
Thank you for all the sweet wishes, and cards for my birthday.
    Blessings, Jeanne
