How about a few more “lace up the front” dresses?

~*~ Just a quick reminder that Felicity’s Fall Fancy dress ends this evening on Ebay. You can see the listing by clicking on the picture at the right side bar or you can click HERE and be taken to the auction. I hope you’ll take a peek…
~*~

A few days ago I did a post on the many Felicity dresses I’ve created over the last 10 years. I’m not sure why, but that day I almost broke a record on the number of views from people looking at my blog. My record is 512 in a single day for THIS post… Felicity’s dresses boasted me a whopping 486 hits. I missed breaking that record by 27 hits. Oh well…

Several of you mentioned you loved the lace up fronts on several of Felicity’s dresses… That gave me an idea for today’s post. I had to do something simple because Saturday is our big International Thanksgiving Dinner. There was definitely no time for sewing yesterday and today so simple posts will have to suffice!

I actually could only think of just a few lace up front dresses, besides Felicity’s… So I was as thrilled as I hope you’ll be when you see all these new lace up front dresses… Some wonderfully sweet, some a bit on the “what was she thinking” when she made that…some with real lace up front ribbons; some with lace up front appliques! :o)

I hope you’ll enjoy these…

This last one was a special dress I made for Kirsten…

You remember me saying I LOVED this picture of Elizabeth showing off her long neck?

Well, I’m crazy about this picture of Kirsten too… Maybe it’s the way it was centered with that moon showing just above her head…

I hope you enjoyed those shots of my girls in lace up front dresses…

See you Monday,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. We are definitely overdue for another Kirsten dress. I can imagine several of your other dolls hopping up and down, shouting, “Me, too! Me, too!” It’s time for a Christmas dress — or three.

So, I’d choose one for Kirsten, one for one of the LDs, and one Victorian (because almost everyone loves Victorian). Maybe simple styles, fabulous fabrics. Christmas runs from Christmas Eve to Twelfth Night, so 3 is possible, especially if you have nothing else to do during this time (something that will never happen).

So here I am, in the middle of the night, wondering what each of us would choose for you to make if we were choosing. A Regency dress in dark green and white? A Victorian dress in burgundy with gold buttons? An Effner dress like the song — girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes? Red, white, and green for Kirsten? Christmas green with a plaid sash for Samantha or Willa? Red with a plaid sash for Molly?

    1. HI Marilyn,
I think you’re right about another Kirsten dress… she is long overdue on one… so are several of my other dolls…you got it right about them jumping up and down saying, “me too, me too!” I guess I better do something about that.

I love how you have it all laid out for me, and the in the “order” too! :o)
It might be easiest if I just followed your plan!
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

Oh, it’s nice to see Kirsten in so many of tonight’s pictures, Jeanne! Of course, I have a Kirsten, so I guess I would be drawn to those outfits! I think my favorites for her both have red caps and plaid skirts–in one, she’s next to a Christmas tree, and in the other, there’s a Christmas tree in the background. It’s funny I should like those, because MY Kirsten is a pink-and-blue girl!! Molly is my red girl, Felicity likes peach, Abby likes brights/black combos, and April likes lavender (like her momma!).

I just saw last night’s post about the sweet potato souffle, and have copied the recipe–it does look good! I have a question, though–do you mix the topping right in with the sweet potatoes, or is it a separate topping? I didn’t quite understand that.

I was also wondering how it would be to add perhaps a little cinnamon and nutmeg, even a touch of clove to the mixture? Someone brought a sweet potato casserole to church one time that had spices added, and it was so yummy!!

Hope your church dinner went well tonight. We had our church Thanksgiving dinner last Sunday right after church this year (usually it’s the Friday night before T-day), as we had a missionary visiting, and normally we would do a potluck dinner then anyway. As always, lots of good food!

    1. HI Charlotte,
The crumble topping on the sweet potato souffle is added when you have the mixture spread in the pan…It just gets sprinkled on top, but not mixed it… it’s a topping… and boy is it yummy!
I’ve never changed my recipe one bit… but who’s to say you couldn’t ?

I have my turkey’s baking…one in the oven and one in my roaster pan… I just need them to get done when I think they will be done, so I can bake my Sweet Potato Souffle… then I’ll be off to get things going for everyone else!

It’s supposed to cold and rainy and windy tonight…bummer! Oh well, nothing a little turkey and casserole won’t fix! :o)
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. I absolutely love Kirsten’s dresses with the lace-ups and the sweet hankie aprons! While I don’t have a Kirsten, I someday would love an outfit made for her that my Susan could wear, maybe for an international festival or something similar, that shows her ancestry. I love the Christmas dresses she wears. Her coloring makes every other color pop, although she is especially charming in blues and reds. And like Marilyn says, yes, we are due another pretty Kirsten dress!
I love too, the lace inserts you have on the LD dolls. The pink and white ruffled dress on Lian makes her look like a spring flower!

Have a wonderful time tonight and hope you luck out on the weather!

    1. Hi Linda,
I think Kirsten IS due another dress, and soon… you can make the prettiest dirndl’s for her at Christmas because you can use several complimentary fabrics and get away with it.

That little pink and white number for Lian is a top favorite of mine… It seems like I say that all the time….but I loved that dress!

I hope the weather holds out too… cold, rain, wind…yuck, but we don’t have much choice, do we…
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Lovely outfits. Even though Kirsten looks beautiful in blues, with her blue eyes, I also like her in the reds and greens- especially the plaids. Love the plaids on all types of dolls. The picture of Kirsten in the pink blouse and hat, remind me, she could be a Heidi in that picture.
Great pictures, Jeanne. Thank you for sharing them.

I’m sure you’re working hard – but it’s a good working hard. Enjoy yourself and all the goodies.

    1. Thank you Paula,
I love plaids on dolls too… they are just timeless I think… and when you find the right one, it’s even better! I’m glad you enjoyed the slide show of the dresses today… I hope you saw something new in the group… :o)

The turkey’s will be done in a few hours and then it will be time to roll… a fun evening is just ahead… despite the weather… :o)
      Thanks Paula,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. All your dresses are so lovely. I’m actually surprised at how much variety there is in “lace up” dresses. This post is definitely a keeper for inspirational purposes.
Hope your International Thanksgiving is a wonderful event.
    Have a great day!
    Take care –

    1. Hi Charlotte,
Thank you for your sweet comments on my lace up dresses. There is a pretty big variety of styles among them, isn’t there?
I’m sure we’ll have a nice time tonight… we’ll be pooped, but it’s a good feeling to pull off such a big event for the students.
      Thanks Charlotte,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. 1st frost this morning! Burr…. Headed to celebrate a belated birthday for our oldest grand. Will be exciting to see them all.
Those lace up dresses are pictures of perfection. I can’t really pick a favorite as they are all so unique, but the one Kristen is wearing in all solids really stands out. Just less busy I guess and with that special hankie apron amazing. Really like that one.
Have a fun feast and see you Monday.

    1. Hi Joy,
Well, I answered you earlier, but I think my Internet must have been knocked out by the bad weather we were having right when I wrote it because it didn’t seem to take…
I hope you had a fun time at the birthday party… I’m sure you did…just like we did…but I bet I get the “tired-est” award between you and me!!! :o)
      Thank you Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Every time I think we’ve seen every dress you’ve ever made, here comes a post with ones I certainly haven’t seen before. What a wonderful reserve you have of past accomplishments. Thanks so much for sharing them with us. Have a wonderful time this evening and hope you get lots of help.

    1. Hi Susette,
I’m late, but the dinner is over and I’m in my jammies, so I can thank you now for your sweet comments about all the dresses shown todsy. It thrills me to know that I’m showing dresses you are seeing for the first time.
I thought surely everyone must be tired of seeing repeats…but maybe not!!!
      Thank you, Susette,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. No, none of them made me say, “What was she thinking?” They are all lovely, and your Kirsten is as photogenic as Felicity. I think my favorite was the third picture from the top— Kirsten with a blue and tan print with a ruffle around the bottom of the bodice. Really pretty!

    1. Hi Carolyn,
Well, the dinner is over and I’m in bed catching up on the last few comments.
That tan and blue durndl that you picked was one of my very favorites to make. That vintage hankie I used for her apron and little hat was so delicate and sheer. Only the winner and I could really appreciate it….you had to see it in person…
      Thanks Carolyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. I just want to go sew some laces on. Love them all.

Jeanne, Would you please answer some sewing questions for me?

When you use underlining is there any certain fabric you use for the AGD?

What is a good size of snaps?, yours always look so good. Any special tips for sewing them on. Mine look awful.

Do you use any special tools for pressing/iron when you sew? I saw good and bad reviews for the mini ironing board.

There is so much information on the Web. It is so hard to know what to do. I wasn’t well today and enjoyed the afternoon reading your tutorials. Thank you so much. When you can’t sew the next best thing is reading about it on your blog. Hope you had a lovely dinner tonight.

    Happy Thanksgiving, J Lynn

    1. Hi again J. Lynn
For some reason my comment back to you went down below Judy’s…my satellite is out because of bad weather and I can’t fix it on my phone…you’ll have to check it out from the blog site…sorry.

  10. Happened to receive an AG catalog a few days ago and was interested in the new interpretations of some of the first dolls, especially Felicity. I had felt for a long time that Mattel could never equal Pleasant Company’s fabrics, workmanship and overall educational foundation. The new Felicity certainly supports that feeling. They need to do some additional research on the time period and be more generous in basic garment, embellishments and accessories. In fact, they could use more than a few of your beautiful dresses for Felicity. I was also surprised (not really) by the number of them already listed for sale. Thank you again for the beauty and pleasure you give so many of us. Love your Kirsten things so much. She was my first AG doll so have a tender spot for her in my heart. God bless the ministry of your hands which you share in so many different ways.

    1. Hi Judy,
I received thst catalog too, and feel the same as you…poor Felicity…I think they could have gotten it much better with her with just a little more effort…
Everything just seems so skimpy…in my opinion…she didn’t need to be so plain Jane….

Thank you for the kind compliments you shared about my doll dresses. I was very flattered at what you said…and very humbled at the same time…I love to sew and I love to get it right…I’m glad you have sweet Kirsten…I love her too.
      Thank you so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  11. Hi J. Lynn,
I just now got in bed and am using my phone to catch up the last of the comments left today…
I’m so glad you enjoyed the doll dresses today…
    I’ll try to answer your questions…as best I can…
When I line something on any doll dress, I try to use the lightest weight white or cream cotton that I can so it doesn’t add any bulk to the dress. A batiste is good, but it’s expensive for a lining and there are other cottons just as good to use.
I use a size 2 or 3 most of the time…I did a tuto rise on sewing on snsps…use the search box, just under my ebay pictures at the right and type in snap tutorial and it should come up…there is a step by step picture tutorial. Hope that helps.
I use a regular size ironing board but I have a pressing board that I use all the time. I think I showed it one time…maybe type in pressing tools in the search box to find that.
    Thank you, J. Lynn,
I hope you enjoyed what you read today!!!
    Blessings, Jeanne

  12. I do like lace up fronts a lot. These are wonderful to look at. So many different ways to manage them. Thank you.
